S.E. Cupp Smacks Down Margaret Carlson for Calling Santorum a Zealot
Conservative author S.E. Cupp didn't take kindly to Bloomberg's Margaret Carlson calling Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum a zealot on CNN's Reliable Sources Sunday.
"Rick Santorum is not a zealot," scolded Cupp. "He happens to be a Christian and a conservative. That's it, end of story" (video follows with transcript and commentary):
MARGARET CARLSON, BLOOMBERG: Well, this is always, you know, what somebody does when they want it both ways, is to blame the media for bringing it up. And David makes a good point. You know, you do get on the front page if the issue’s contraception, and you don't always get there if it's, you know, the banking crisis. However, the media needs the predicate. It's not as if we raise it. And Rick Santorum is a zealot. That is his main problem.
KURTZ: In your view?
CARLSON: In my view he --
KURTZ: A lot of people would disagree with that.
CARLSON: -- he can't help himself from going on and on, and deeper and deeper, and at the end contraception is evil. So, he goes there. We don't.
DAVID BRODY, CBN NEWS: I think -- you know, it depends how you define zealot. I don't know, I mean, zealot has somewhat of a negative connotation, I would think.
(CROSSTALK)
CARLSON: He doesn't debate it. He just --
KURTZ: What's that, S.E. Cupp?
S.E. CUPP: It does not, it does not depend on how you define zealot. Rick Santorum is not a zealot. He happens to be a Christian and a conservative. That's it, end of story. There is no zealot about him. That’s absolutely preposterous.
Nicely said, S.E. Brava!

Associate Editor’s note: As you are likely aware, since the financial collapse of 2008, charities and non-profit organizations have seen a sharp reduction in donations. Although the environment has improved, contributions are still nowhere near where they were prior to the recession. Unfortunately, the Media Research Center has not been immune. With this in mind, your support has become more important than ever. With a critical election approaching, the liberal media needs to be monitored 24/7. As we have been predicting for months, the press are willing to do anything to get their beloved politicians elected and/or reelected. As such, we need your help to fight this fight. Any contribution, even $10, is greatly appreciated. Please consider a tax-deductible gift to the Media Research Center to help us battle the liberal media. Thank you.

The MSM bombards Santorum with questions about his faith and social values, and then clowns like Carlson criticize him for talking about his faith and social values.
I still think that Carlson was the model for the Chinese interpreter "Honey" in Doonesbury. Separated at birth.
Thanks, Galvanic.

I have been wondering for years exactly who Carlson reminded me of. It is DEFINITELY Honey, except Honey is way smarter.
Now, if I could just figure out if "S.E. Cupp" is a stage name or for real. Is that the greatest name for a hot babe, or what?
I said the same...

I said the same thing about the contraceptive controversy. The Catholic institutions such as the hospitals, schools, and charities are forced by law to hire people regardless of religion or sex (http://www.eeoc.gov/eeoc/index.cfm). Now the libs want to use that against them.
"Hey, since you hired women of faiths different from yours, you must pay for their contraceptives now(directly or indirectly)." Maybe they should only hire male Catholics - oh the lawsuits would fly then.
The contraception 'counter-attack' is a recent . . .

. . . example of how quickly the Dems and their allies can change the subject. The initial outrage by the RCC and others was based on a First Amendment issue.
The Left knew it had stepped on a landmind. But they recovered quickly by telling their pals that this is a women's health issue, and all about a woman' "right" to contraceptives -- which of course was NEVER the issue in this event.
Planned Parenthood, NOW, university professors, and others made themselves available to the MSM echo chamber to drown out the RCC and its message.
So far, it has worked, but the issue will ultimately be decided in Federal court like other tenets of Obamacare.
You know who's enjoying this?

David Axelrod. and David Plouffe. Oh, and Deval Patrick.
They created the controversy with the help of the media and now they're watching likely GOP voters cannibalize each other rather than attack Obama. It's a brilliant strategy, actually. And a lot of conservatives/republicans/RINOs are falling for it.
I just hope our candidates have realized they've been set up and won't fall for it again.
The GOP will dread the decision to conduct . . .

. . . the seemingly endless string of debates. The last 12-14 have been little more than food fights between the candidates and between the candidates and the media.
Not only have they turned a lot of folks off, but they have provided the Obama Campaign with lots of on-camera quotes and gaffs.

This is typical of journalists in this country. They have always aligned to a party and taken on the tone of the party. These guys remind me of Peter Porcupine out of that era. They are so bigoted against conservatism that they cannot bear the thought that conservatism (even if it is social conservatism, and not fiscal conservatism) might actually survive without their maligning the concept.
Liberals/progressives/communists/socialists are all the same. They love free speech until they disagree with the premise. At that time, they will use their own version of the Alien and Sedition Acts to try to silence free speech, by labeling it "unpatriotic", etc. They prate about how non-partisan they are, but note that they will never defend your right to say anything. It is always "hate speech", a "racial slur", or some other claptrap fabrication of a weak mind to prevent their having to develop a rational response.
These ignoramuses are also the reason that this President has failed. Had they vetted him on his views that the Constitution needs to enumerate what government must do for people, and not cheered on his huge deficits and his stupid foreign policy, he might have actually been elected, or having been elected been required to moderate his agenda to one that is more palatable. So, it is fair to say that, so far, the media and the progressive Democrat party are both responsible for the failure of the first black President. That and his own stupidity and cupidity.

Otherwise everything Santorum has said is essentially the truth.
Protestant churches have largely accepted homosexuality.
Birth control pills ARE bad for women.
The separation of church and state is not absolute, nor is it a one way street, nor is it written in the constitution.
JFK was just like any other lib, anti-religion and a true believer in big government. Not to mention a complete POS of a human being.
Yet express these truths and the left goes batshit insane, mostly because they do not want people hearing truth. Only their version of "truth".

Either you are completely out of your mind or you are deflecting for the Roman Catholic church, I suspect both.
I'll not let this trite comment pass without a rebuttal. This comment was unnecessary and an unmitigated lie.
This is an instance where you should look to your own backyard and leave others be.
That is unless your house of religion sets a shining example of how things should be.
And the old tired argument that your church is the first Christian church doesn't cut any ice with anybody with any sense. Maybe the first man-made church, but certainly not Gospel nor Christ based.

I'm not speaking for him or arguing for his views, but Santorum was originally talking about "mainline Protestantism", which excludes evangelicals and other groups. I don't know enough about mainline Protestant churches to comment on it, although certainly the rank-and-file church members seem to have very liberal views.

those on the Right would just respond to this type of accusation with words to the effect of " it's too bad that so many on the Left are marginal & PC about religion and aren't willing to identify people like Islamists as zealots rather than people like Santorum who is what historically was considered being a good Christian." Just because admitting to being a practicing Christian appears to embarrass some on the Left that doesn't mean only zealots do so.
