Lou Dobbs: 'It’s Awfully Nice' of the Media 'To Help Everyone Understand the Dangers of Rick Santorum'

By Noel Sheppard | February 19, 2012 | 13:51

Fox Business Network's Lou Dobbs issued a truly delicious smack down to America's press Sunday.

In the midst of a lengthy discussion about the so-called “Contraception Controversy” on ABC's This Week, Dobbs said, "It’s awfully nice of the national media and the Democratic Party to help everyone understand the dangers of Rick Santorum" (video follows with transcribed highlights and commentary):

As the conversation ensued, substitute host Jake Tapper referred to "the contraception debate" before asking George Will if he’s concerned with Rick Santorum falling “into the trap of making this about contraception, which is not necessarily a winning issue for Republicans, as opposed to making it a debate about religious liberties.”

Will correctly replied, “There is no contraceptive debate in the sense that no one running for president wants to ban contraception. Nobody.”

The Chicago Tribune’s Clarence Page injected the false media narrative “Santorum does,” which generated great protest from Will, Dobbs, and even ABC’s Jonathan Karl.

After Page capitulated, former Clinton press secretary Dee Myers said, “You know what, most women don't want Rick Santorum’s advice about whether or not they should use birth control.”

This led Dobbs to marvelously observe, “These are choices that are going to be made individually by voters, and it’s awfully nice of the national media and the Democratic Party to help everyone understand the dangers of Rick Santorum. But the Republican primary process will make that evaluation irrespective of our assistance genuine or manufactured.”

And that will include people like Page continuing to misinform the public about Santorum wanting to ban birth control.

Associate Editor’s note: As you are likely aware, since the financial collapse of 2008, charities and non-profit organizations have seen a sharp reduction in donations. Although the environment has improved, contributions are still nowhere near where they were prior to the recession. Unfortunately, the Media Research Center has not been immune. With this in mind, your support has become more important than ever. With a critical election approaching, the liberal media needs to be monitored 24/7. As we have been predicting for months, the press are willing to do anything to get their beloved politicians elected and/or reelected. As such, we need your help to fight this fight. Any contribution, even $10, is greatly appreciated. Please consider a tax-deductible gift to the Media Research Center to help us battle the liberal media. Thank you.

Dee Dee Myers

Submitted by MrLuigi on Sun, 02/19/2012 - 4:18pm.

I'm still trying to figure out why ANY insurance plan has to cover women's contraception, so forcing religious institutions to violate their teachings is all the more abominable. At the risk of offending any female newsbusters readers, I've accepted the "it's my body" mantra. Since it is "your body" I believe you should pay for your own contraception. Ms. Myers is not interested in Santorum's advice on contraception, and I'm not interested in paying higher premiums so she can get free spermicide.

Straight up.

Most Americans don't understand the fundamental ideal of "rights of conscience" but do understand being "with it" or "behind the times", so that is what the volunteer propagandists in America have made it. Combined with plenty of inuendo that the reverse is the Catholic Church, or Santorum, peering into your bedroom.

There is no slander that the press is not prepared to make of its political opposition.

As it is now a right to free birth control. Not only cheep and available but free for all. They should just put birth control in the water supply, it will come to that as some think that way and if you don't like it you are against women rights. You have to go to a government office to get the right to have a baby too.

Contraception, abortion, and chicken nuggets

Submitted by MCLANTIERE on Sun, 02/19/2012 - 2:42pm.

I guess the only thing that the Government feels is "off-limits" to impose on any one is the murder of one's unborn child. For EVERYTHING ELSE ... there's GOVERNMENT!

Contraception is a RIGHT to be paid by anyone Barack Obama TELLS them to pay.

The same goes for Government forcing kids treat Government Soylent Green chicken nuggets ... instead of the lunch their Mom sent (made with LOVE) -- but without the proper nutrition that Barack TELLS THEM TO include.

Pssst ... does this sound like a P-O-L-I-C-E S-T-A-T-E yet?

Exactly Right

Submitted by Kingfish17 on Sun, 02/19/2012 - 3:07pm.

Contraception is a "Women's Health Issue", and thusly, needs to be provided for "free" from the federal government.

If this becomes the accepted belief, then indeed, quality chicken nuggets, (or any other food for that matter), becomes an "Individual's Health Issue", and the supply thereof needs to be assured by the federal government, for "free", if need be.

There is no end to this.

What I thought was so funny about the segment, was Clarence Page's agreement with Lou Dobbs after he stated that Santorum wants to ban contraceptives:

Dobbs: "...but in public policy choices, he's (Santorum) always come down on the side of making it (contraception) possible for everyone else."

Page: "Right"

"Right"??? Then what was all the fuss about, Clarence?

As usual, George Will hits the nail on the head. I hope Lou Dobbs enjoyed his last stint on This Week. LOL I'm amazed the Democrats are wasting all this time on contraception and the MSM is thinking this is so great they're helping them with it. I'm still waiting for the MSM to ask Obama about Black Liberation Theology, and I'm sure I'll be waiting for a real long time. To me, that's more scary and real than the boogie man they're throwing at Republicans about contraception.

Vote Republican - Then you'll only be called a racist one more time.

Amazing

Submitted by GregE on Sun, 02/19/2012 - 4:46pm.

Stephanolpolos brings up contraception in a debate, railed on it for 5 minutes out of nowhere.

Couple weeks later, Obama admin mandates contraception be available in every insurance plan not tied to employees directly employed by a church, but still to everything else even church related or sponsored, says they'll give churches 1 year to change their church doctrine to accommodate the god called government.

Media latches on, follows the messiah and runs stories on "women's issues" as if that is the issue at all. Nevermind the Constitutionality, that's beside the point in their agenda-driven thinking.

Obama admin couple days later changes who must pay for it, demanding insurance companies provide certain services for free and claiming to "accommodate" the church by who pays for it. As if there is any Constitutional authority to mandate anything of the sort. But he was a Constitutional lecturer, so apparently he knows it better than Madison.

Hearings on Capitol Hill, Democrat women walk out, complaining of no women on a panel about a Constitutional issue, claiming instead, as media and messiah, that it's a women's issue hearing. It is not.

Santorum vaults to the front of the media's rifled barrel. Contraception center stage.

President Obama, leader of the federal government, running the nation into the dirt for 3 years, having little understanding of America and hating what he does understand, trampling on the Constitution, going around Congress just because he wants to, announcing over and over that he'll do more of that, pitting Americans against each other at every turn, implying everyone's problems will go away and Utopia will ensue if we could just get the evil rich to pay their so-called "fair share", which Obama won't define, while 47% of Americans don't pay any federal income taxes yet that's deemed fair, with unemployment reportedly at 8.3% in the same month 1.2 million people fall off the unemployment rolls in 1 month, an historical record and which the media pays little attention to in the calculation of the drop in the reported unemployment.......

........Yes, contraception, that's the most pressing issue of our time, as we teeter on the brink of economic disaster, about which we are being lied to every single day as the President, aka the perpetual candidate in campaign mode roams the nation trying to convince the citizenry that he's the best there ever was and every ill of the nation is the fault of some other entity.

Contraception and the Catholic Church

Submitted by MediaMike on Sun, 02/19/2012 - 5:24pm.

The Catholic church is against contraception and abortion. That's their right under our Constitution. People like Page would deny citizens that right ... he says Santorum, in his heart of hearts, is against contraception. So?

The most amazing thing about this entire issue is that Pelosi, Biden, Kerry, Kennedy, etc. all call themselves Catholics. In their heart of hearts, they don't believe in Catholicism and they will be surprised where they go when they die.

It's down at the bottom of the page you linked to.

"Is all of that true? No. But it doesn’t matter, President Obama will have close to a billion dollars and the mainstream media at his side."

If anything, this gives me even more belief Santorum can win.

Last couple of days, the media have even been showing the picture of Santorum wearing a cowboy hat, hats are a usually serious no-no for a candidate.  But you know what?  Nobody's taking the bait.  He looks better with a Stetson than without.

Anybody watch MTP this morning? The usual 5 libs versus 1 conservative, Gregory and some white house correspondent for the nytimes (btw, are all black female "journalists" required by law to be rabid, unabashed Obama supporters?) were gushing over how great the economy was doing, feeding off of one another. Of course, when the one conservative, Gellispie, pointed out how many people have simply given up looking for work, Gregory quickly moved on. Prior to that episode, it was a lot of poking fun at Romney, with Gregory implying Mitt was a buffoon and didn't know how to talk.

And it's only going to get worse from here on out.

Guarantee you the mood at NBC will be as somber as a funeral home the day after Obama loses the election.

Tea Party for Mitt Romney

Submitted by Quasi-socialist on Sun, 02/19/2012 - 8:33pm.

Can anybody remember the single galvanizing event for the Tea Party? I think it was socialized medicine similar to what Romney instituted in Massachusetts. One about which he was caught saying a month or two ago that it might not all have to be scrapped. Also his big idea was granting "wavers" to all 50 states, thus leaving the laws in place to be eased in at a future date.

So the fiscal conservatives will go the way of self-described "fiscal conservative" Olympia Snow who "heard history knocking" in the form of national health care. A social conservative is simply the most believable fiscal conservative, outside of Ron Paul. I saw this four years ago when "fiscal conservative" Giuliani couldn't find a social spending bill he had a problem with, kind of like "fiscal conservative" Arnold Schwarzenegger. The last couple of elections have really exposed the lie of the fiscal conservative.

Everything is always in flux from "in fashion" to "out of fashion" with squishes in the middle.

Hypothetically

Submitted by Kingfish17 on Sun, 02/19/2012 - 9:38pm.

Hypothetically, would you support a Republic form of government, where the feds had no authority to institute a national health care system, but each state could be left to their own devices to do as they pleased regarding health care, as long as they took no federal dollars to support their state run health care systems? I know it's a stretch, but it's just a hypothetical question.

Submitted by michiganruth on Sun, 02/19/2012 - 10:30pm.

you're gonna get creamed on newsbusters for saying that giatn, but you're absolutely right.

Rick Santorum probably doesn't want to "ban birth control," but he dislikes birth control far too much for my taste.

my disaffected Jewish friends are desperate for a non-Obama alternative who won't throw Israel under the bus, but they will not vote for Santorum. and there's my college-senior daughter, who refuses to vote (again) for Obama, but who will never support anyone who lectures her about sex belonging 'only within the sanctity of marriage for procreative purposes'. don't get me wrong: that is a perfectly fine thing to believe, but it's a PERSONAL belief, not something we want our president to be deciding for us.

When has Santorum or ANYBODY

When has Santorum or ANYBODY said they would decide these things for anyone? The only party deciding things for people are the democrats.

So Christine O'Donnell was defeated but look how bad Obama defeated McCain. McCain was the republican establishment candidate and that worked out really really well, huh ??? I can't help but notice when someone mentions O'Donnell or Sharon Angle they NEVER mention what a bad candidate McCain was.

Fortunate but true.

Submitted by CT on Mon, 02/20/2012 - 1:12pm.

I was about to say unfortunate but true. I voted for him once but found him to easily be led by the Republican Party boss politic of the day, recall his support for Arlen Spector over Pat Toomey because he was told to do so.

Problem is Rick Santorum IMHO is a self-righteous nut job, always has been. Listening to him I hear a whiner and lately a screecher in the high pitch Hillary mode. I do not hear or see anything presidential in Santorum’s voice or protestations.

The Obamination must go!

If Santorum is the nominee, he will have to do a very good job of convincing the American people he will not try to force his views on the American people or Obama will win another election

Submitted by Unsane on Mon, 02/20/2012 - 5:55pm.

This coming from someone who desperately wants to force his views on the American people.

I realize this is going to be a shock to you, but when we vote for government officials, we are voting for people who will use the machinery of government to impose their views and philosophies on society.

Your choice: vote for someone who will force the view that people really are better off taking care of themselves upon society, or vote for someone who will force the federal government to regiment every waking and sleeping hour of your daily life.

I don't share Santorum's views

Submitted by Kingfish17 on Mon, 02/20/2012 - 6:13pm.

I don't share a lot of Santorum's views, shawn. I also believe that he will not try, through legislation or executive order, to force his social views on America. I certainly don't share a lot of Obama's views, yet he is imposing his beliefs. Yet somehow, the MSM has everyone believing that it's Santorum that we have to fear?

I think you are too easily swayed by the MSM.

Plenty of shawn's favorite hobby: whining.

Here is a very nasty fact: you have made no bones about how you think pot should be legal.  That is one example of your wanting to force your views on society.

Another: you think prostitution is no big deal and should be legal.  Yet again, an example of you wanting to force your views on society.

Need I go on?

You may go now.

I believe in the law. Regardless of my views, I believe laws have to be passed before it is forced on people like liberals and gay marriage.

Last I checked.having a point of view is not forcing anything on anybody.

Thank you

Then congratulations, you want to force your morality on other people.  Why?  Because in spite of your adding a wishy-washy disclaimer at the end, you still advocate it and work to advance the cause, regardless of what the majority believes.  Nothing is wrong with that, but I never again want to hear your whining about people "forcing their morality on you."

You are a hypocrite.

I don't dance around questions either.  The problem is not me, but you.  One, you don't like the answers you get from me, so it's easier to pout and whine about "dancing around questions".  Two, ESPECIALLY when a lengthy explanation is required, you whine about having to actually read more than what is printed on a single page in a Dr. Seuss book.  In both cases it's much easier than being intellectually honest.  It's definitely much easier than being somewhat mature.

Lou Dobbs is usually pretty good

Submitted by lrgon on Sun, 02/19/2012 - 10:21pm.

The Bushehr Nuclear facility in Iran comes immediately to mind. Here Lou showed his moxie when on Lou Dobbs Tonight exposed a $5 Million dollar grant that Iran got indirectly from the Department of Energy in 2007 to help the Iranians with their nuclear power program.

The grant was awarded according to Dobbs to a Russian Institute whose scientists worked at the Bushehr Province providing Iranians nuke expertise. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JOieYqZ1X60
Despite a congressional committee investigation the Bush adminstration was left pretty much protected from any impregnating fallout due to the mainstream media's prophylactic coverage.

Lou Dobbs needs to target Santorum for voting for an unconstitutional bill that included funds to Planned Parenthood. Here we have more friendly media prophylactic protection for a politician that voted to fund a pro-abortion lobby organization so that they could buy contraceptives to dispense to women.

Where in the Constitution is congress authorized to give out contraceptives at taxpayers expense?

That senator Santorum is about as lax in his Catholic follow through as Nancy Pelosi is not the issue. The issue is that Santorum cast most of his votes while in the Senate on the unconstitutional column.

Good find, lrgon.

Submitted by Kingfish17 on Sun, 02/19/2012 - 10:44pm.

You would have more credibility, however, if you didn't say that Iran got $5 Million dollars. The Youtube video states, at the 37 second mark, that the U.S. Department of Energy is funding two Russian institutes with about $4,000,000. and those institutes help Iran with their nuclear program in Bushehr. So how much actually went to the Iranians? I couldn't tell from the video. One dollar would have been too much. But your post leads us to believe that the they got the entire grant.
