Peggy Noonan Schools Mika Brzezinski on Obama ‘Mischievously’ Misinforming Public About Contraceptives
During a lengthy Morning Joe discussion about the growing contraceptive controversy, co-host Mika Brzezinski took issue with the Wall Street Journal’s Peggy Noonan saying the Obama administration is “mischievously” misinforming the public on this issue.
Noonan smartly responded with a much-needed lesson on exactly how the White House and the Left are dishonestly twisting this subject for political gain (video follows with transcribed highlights and commentary):
As the discussion ensued, Noonan asked co-host Joe Scarborough, “Do you believe that at this point of this struggle, the White House and the National Abortion Action Rights League and Planned Parenthood have decided that mischievously and for political gain they will put this whole issue and imbroglio forward as simply a disagreement on contraception? The Catholic Church is trying to take your contraception away from you? Those bad men are trying to mess up with your contraception?”
Scarborough responded, “Yeah.”
Noonan replied, “That is not what this issue is about. It is not what the struggle and the imbroglio has been about. But I think you are suggesting, tell me if I'm wrong, that the administration for political reasons is going to muck up the waters in that way.”
A bit later after a commercial break, Brzezinski took issue with this saying, "I do want to ask you about your choice of words, ‘mischievous.’ Come on, Peggy.”
“It is political mischief.” responded Noonan.
“What?” gasped Brzezinski. “Trying to get contraceptives?”
“When you take a serious political issue and put it forward, break it apart in a way that is not true but may excite people who you think deep in your heart are sort of uninformed,” correctly observed Noonan.
“If the White House is turning this into an argument about contraception so that normal people who, let's admit it, listen to the news peripherally and have real lives and are not necessarily engaged by the news,” continued Noonan. “If they start to think, ‘Wait a second, a bunch of creepy people are moving against my rights to go to CVS and get contraceptives.’ If that's what Joe is saying they mean to do, then that is sheer mischief.”
Exactly. And this is indeed what this administration and its surrogates in and outside of the media are doing.
The claim is that the Right are coming after people's contraceptives. You hear it all day long on the various cable news channels and the broadcast networks.
Yet that's not what this issue is about for birth control in this nation is as plentiful as liberal propaganda.
Consider that a simple Google search identified numerous condom wholesalers including Undercover Condoms that sells such things for as little as $100 for a case of 1000. That's ten cents each. EBay has condoms available for the same amount per unit cost.
As the average person has sex about once or twice a week, this is a cost of about $10 a year all available with the click of a mouse without having to leave one's home.
For those preferring birth control pills, Planned Parenthood claims these can cost as little as $15 a month.
Heck, you've probably heard in the past few weeks cynical media members pointing out that 98 percent of Catholics use birth control.
If that's the case, it doesn't seem that anyone in our country is having a hard time finding it.
As such, the shifting of this debate away from the first amendment protection of freedom of religion to folks having their contraceptives taken away is indeed mischievous, and all those not only letting the White House get away with it but also aiding and abetting the misinformation are guilty of media malpractice.
Associate Editor’s note: As you are likely aware, since the financial collapse of 2008, charities and non-profit organizations have seen a sharp reduction in donations. Although the environment has improved, contributions are still nowhere near where they were prior to the recession. Unfortunately, the Media Research Center has not been immune. With this in mind, your support has become more important than ever. With a critical election approaching, the liberal media needs to be monitored 24/7. As we have been predicting for months, the press are willing to do anything to get their beloved politicians elected and/or reelected. As such, we need your help to fight this fight. Any contribution, even $10, is greatly appreciated. Please consider a tax-deductible gift to the Media Research Center to help us battle the liberal media. Thank you.

I guess Peggy would have considered George Soros leading his fellow Jews to Hitler's SS troops as "mischief?"
I understand that liberals think of the Holocaust as "problem solving," but I expect better choice of words from (supposed) conservatives when dealing with this regime.
I'm still waiting for the first commentator with the guts to call the RBFSOB's regime, "Fascist." I'd dearly love to watch that "intellectual discussion" unfold.
Go straight to FOX News then....

Has anyone else noted that CAIR is lying low on this one?

Since Islam has no centralized clerical hierarchy like the RCC, why not interview a rep from a principal advocacy group that has been outspoken about infringing on the rights of Muslims on other issues?
Get a CAIR rep in front of a camera and ask if Islamic schools and charities in the US should be forced to comply like the RCC is.
Wouldn't do any good, Galvanic.

Sometimes Noonan is too slow getting to the point.
What the President really wants to do is wrest the last vestige of allegiance away from casual Catholics.
It's been done before. The Vatican Concordat with the German Reich (1933) is the most notable.
At some point, "He tricked us" is nothing more than plausible deniability.

Guys, you know that the Obamabots in the propaganda media have to come up with some cover story for our socialist president.
Not many media outlets have anything like honesty or truth or morality in their reporting. They must defend and disguise their liberal agenda; they continually tell you it is for your own good because you are too stupid to understand the implications of the agenda.
It is fine for corruption in this administration because it advances their agenda. It is alright for this administration to break the law and spit on the constitution because it advances the agenda. They have changed the subject of every discussion that would lead the sheep and the people on the plantation to question the master.

I have had very mixed feelings about Noonan's writings, but on this show she was right on. They will lie and deceive to achieve their ends.

The Church's position is, "If I (the Church) pay for my employees' insurance, that means I (the Church) am opening the door to those employees getting free birth control and abortion pills.

I suspect, like many on your side of the argument, that you are being intellectually disingenuous.
The Obama "compromise" claims to shift fiducial responsibility for "contraception" onto the back of the insurers yet anyone with a lick of economic savvy knows thats not how things really work.
When insurers are Governmentally mandated to cover something that they have theretofore never covered, they pass those increased operating costs onto the consumers in to form of higher premiums.
In fact it was this exact practice that had the left so up in arms during the so called health care debate. It was pointed out by the left time and again how Big Health Care was putting profits before patients. In fact it was a critical argument for the left in their push for a individual mandate.
Now you would have us believe that this chain of events would not occur simply because the President has, through some supposed divine acclamation, deemed it so?
Until the left can put aside their own intellectual dishonesty and claim outright what their intended goals are they will forever have to lie squirm and attempt to play BS semantic games to advance their agenda.
And the reason I said attempt to play BS semantic games is for the fact that many Americans are getting wise to the Presidents meal mouth word puzzles and see him and his toadies in the MSM for exactly what they are. Lying P.O.S.'s that with a smirk and a shrug think that every American is like their lickspittle base in that they will believe ANYTHING that comes out of the Presidents and the assorted MSM talking head's mouth's.

simple economics
Submitted by GerryC on Tue, 02/14/2012 - 9:49am.
Liberals do not understand basic economics. For example, they wish for higher corporate taxes. They can't even understand that a company has to make a profit, and therefore just adds the tax onto the cost of their products. Thereby making the consumer pay the "corporate tax".
Nothing is "free", including contraceptives. The insurance companies will just pass the cost on to their consumers.
That aside, imagine if a president decided we all need "free" liver replacements and liposuctions, to protect people engaged in other risky behavior.
The simple idea of a president telling a business, or religion, that they must provide something "free" is blatantly unconstitutional.
