Chris Matthews Calls Romney’s Attacks on Gingrich ‘A Snuff Movie’
MSNBC’s Chris Matthews had some harsh criticism for Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney Monday.
In a discussion about the viciousness in the GOP race, the Hardball host said, “I’ve never seen one, but it’s like a snuff movie we’ve been watching here” (video follows with transcript and commentary):
The segment began with Matthews sharing some recent poll numbers, after which he said, “It seems to me that there’s been collateral damage here, damage that might last. The question is of course will it last?”
The Washington Post’s Eugene Robinson agreed with his host and then elaborated, “We’ve also learned that Romney, the Romney camp has a tendency toward over-confidence. We’ve seen that a couple of times, and toward going so totally negative that they forget to project a positive image of their guy, which as you know from history, that’s not a good idea. You have to make a positive case for your guy to be president, and they’re not really doing that.”
Matthews replied, “This is like, I’ve never seen one, but it’s like a snuff movie we’ve been watching here. They kill, they kill Newt Gingrich but they don’t sell the candidate.”
So much for the post-Gabrielle Giffords shooting political civility.
More importantly, when Barack Obama begins spending what many estimate will be $1 billion on negative ads to attack his Republican opponent, will Matthews and his colleagues be calling that a snuff movie and complaining about the harsh rhetoric in the campaign?
Yes, that was a rhetorical question.
Associate Editor’s note: As you are likely aware, since the financial collapse of 2008, charities and non-profit organizations have seen a sharp reduction in donations. Although the environment has improved, contributions are still nowhere near where they were prior to the recession. Unfortunately, the Media Research Center has not been immune. With this in mind, your support has become more important than ever. With a critical election approaching, the liberal media needs to be monitored 24/7. As we have been predicting for months, the press are willing to do anything to get their beloved politicians elected and/or reelected. As such, we need your help to fight this fight. Any contribution, even $10, is greatly appreciated. Please consider a tax-deductible gift to the Media Research Center to help us battle the liberal media. Thank you.

"I've never seen one' ... but I know what one looks like! Hey Chris have you ever seen a political hack posing as a 'journalist'?
Consider Matthews' references . . .

. . . He unabashedly declares that he gets a thrill up his leg at Obama's voice. He compares a primary campaign battle to snuff films.
A window into the mind of an aging liberal.

But it was no snuff film. And the parallels, well Matthew should actually watch the movie he admitted not watching before comparing it to the campaign. That is unless the Romney campaign is planning on drugging and kidnapping Newt to torture him to death.

MSNBC is like being IN a snuff film what with Rachel Madcow, Sharpton and the gang. They kill me every time I inadvertently put them on my screen.
This dude has gone off his rocker

OK, so what this guy is saying is that it is UNACCEPTABLE to use a word like "Crosshair" and he labels a political campaign a "Snuff Film"? Time for Comcast to pull the plug on this network that is bought and paid for by George Soros. If not, then everyone should boycott Comcast. I went with Direct TV.
