Bill Maher: Tea Partiers Support Newt Gingrich Because He’s Racist Like Them

By Noel Sheppard | January 21, 2012 | 12:43

HBO’s Bill Maher said Friday that members of the Tea Party support Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich because he’s racist like them.

Fortunately for the small portion of Real Time viewers with a brain, the Daily Caller’s Matt Lewis was there to set the ignorant host straight (video follows with transcribed highlights and commentary):

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

“They may not see a Republican,” said Maher early in the panel segment of the show, “but watching these last couple of debate, all of them, but especially recently, the Tea people, who really kind of wag the dog there in the Republican Party, they finally see somebody they like.”

He continued, “I mean, Newt Gingrich, I’m sorry, but he does mirror who they are: mean, snarling, borderline racist.”

Lewis smartly interrupted, “Wait a second. Newt Gingrich is a lot of things.”

“I’m sorry,” interjected Maher, “not borderline.”

This elicited laughter and applause from his sycophants in the audience.

Undeterred, Lewis accurately replied, “Wait, who’s the one guy, though, the one guy who said on stage and took heat that if you’ve been in America for 25 years, and you’re a grandfather and you’re Hispanic, we’re not going to deport you? That was Newt Gingrich.”

Indeed it was making him likely the most moderate of the remaining candidates on the illegal immigration issue.

But one shouldn’t expect Maher or his audience to understand this.

They probably get their “news” from Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert.

Associate Editor’s note: As you are likely aware, since the financial collapse of 2008, charities and non-profit organizations have seen a sharp reduction in donations. Although the environment has improved, contributions are still nowhere near where they were prior to the recession. Unfortunately, the Media Research Center has not been immune. With this in mind, your support has become more important than ever. With a critical election approaching, the liberal media needs to be monitored 24/7. As we have been predicting for months, the press are willing to do anything to get their beloved politicians elected and/or reelected. As such, we need your help to fight this fight. Any contribution, even $10, is greatly appreciated. Please consider a tax-deductible gift to the Media Research Center to help us battle the liberal media. Thank you.

Not unlike MSNBC, Maher is satisfied with attracting and holding a small but loyal leftwing audience that thinks he's a genius. He wants to be harder than Stewart and Colbert, and U wouldn't be surprised if he thinks he's smarter than them. But he'll never have a larger audience than he does now.

Hey there, Buddy....is it not just a wee bit early to be drinkin'?? The football games aren't until tomorrow. Either you're starting the tailgate party a day ahead of the game, or you have no idea of what you are talking about. No rational American voter could possibly believe that a) Barack Obama will beat ANYBODY by 15% or b) the Republicans will lose the House of Representatives. But rock on, dude. A mind is a terrible thing to waste, though.

Submitted by Liberallies on Sat, 01/21/2012 - 3:23pm.

DC2280,

Really? Obama can win by 15%? are you serious? Many of the Democrats will stay with Obama, but there were also countless of Republicans, who for whatever reason, voted for this buffoon of a President. Obama has lost all of these Republicans and I am sure that he has lost Democrats, both far Left Democrats who will stay home and not vote, and Democrats who are closer to Republicans.

Obama can have his base, but everything else is game. And if Newt wins and he says what he has been saying on immigration, he also will have the Latino vote.

Obama is in real, real, REAL trouble, all signs point to it. If Republicans do it right, they win. And Romney will have a hard time going after Obamacare when he has Romneycare to explain. All Obama has to say is, "Romney, how can you be against Obamacare? I based it on the program you believe is so great in Mass.!" Done, Romney will be done!

The legal challenge to

Submitted by buddyc on Sat, 01/21/2012 - 4:15pm.

The legal challenge to Obamacare is that it is function for states not the federal government. There would be no basis to challenge a state's adoption of a similar health care plan.

Newt is as vulnerable on Obama care as is Newt who also supported the concept and Newt is going to be lost when Obama has people in Fan/Fred come out and say Newt was paid to lobby. Newt should have been indicted for illegal lobbying. I mean even some elected republicans indicated he contacted them on behalf of Fan/Fred.

How will Newt run on opposing Obama Care.? How will Newt run on opposing Cap/Trade? How will Newt run on opposing entitlement reform after attacking Ryan's plan?

Attacking a commentator at a debate does not qualify you to be POTUS.

I won't even mention his character flaws. It would take pages.

Sorry, Buddy, but....

Submitted by almostacowboy on Sat, 01/21/2012 - 6:39pm.

the basis of the case is not a question of states' rights. It is whether the federal government can compel a citizen into entering into a contract against his will (aka the individual mandate).

"Newt should have been indicted for illegal lobbying"? Really? It's obvious you're not a lawyer. Do you play one on TV?

As far as your questions regarding "how will Newt run", he has already addressed all those issues (and others). And regarding his "character flaws", we're electing a President, not a Pope. And I, for one, am sick and tired of the rest of the GOP (with darn few exceptions) rolling over to the likes of Debbie Horseface Schultz, Nancy Pelosi, and the biggest dim-wit of them all, Harry Reid.

buddyc, Hmmm...It looks like

Submitted by Liberallies on Sun, 01/22/2012 - 3:15pm.

buddyc,

Hmmm...It looks like you do not get one of the biggest problems with Obamacare. The government madating that we must buy a service or else. This is a question that affects Federal as well as State level.

Romney is chosen as the Republican candidate and a fight against Obamacare is off the table. Plain and simple.

And Newt's character? I have zero doubt, buddyc, that those who know you, specially your close friends and family can write pages, upon pages of your character flaws. We all have them, each and everyone of us. But if you are looking for the perfect, spotless, white as snow candidate, please as Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ to come down to Earth and run for the Presidency.

Newt is no saint, and neither are you or me. We want perfection from our candidates and we will never find it.

Did he screw up over 15+ years ago? yes, it looks like he did. But we only know one side of the story. We know nothing of how the ex-wife treated him. I believe this is not an excuse to leave a spouse unless they physically and/or emotionally destroyed you. But not knowing both sides of the story, kind of hard to judge a man. In our culture we are so quick to jump to the conclusion that it is always a man's fault when a marriage fails.

Regarless, people change. People repent, people ask for forgiveness. I have zero doubt that you would be very distrut if someone held over your head a mistake you made 15+ years ago and did not forgive you, right? If Newt had just had an affair, just ended his marriage, etc. Yes, it would be very difficult to support him, but 15+ years ago? Unless it is a current pattern of behavior, I am unsure what someone did over 15 years ago has to do with the here and now.

Do you believe that people can repent? do you believe that people can be forgiven? do you believe people change in a 15+ year period?

"Separate and apart from this incident is that there’s a long history in this country of African-American and Latinos being stopped by law enforcement disproportionately," (so why does Obama bring it up when addressing the Cambridge police arresting his friend?)

"I don’t know – not having been there and not seeing all the facts – what role race played in that, but I think it’s fair to say, number one, any of us would be pretty angry; number two that he Cambridge police acted stupidly in arresting somebody when there was already proof that they were in their own home," (so why does Obama automatically conclude it was racist in nature)

Starts with "F," which he uses any time he want to make the audience laugh, because whatever he says isn't funny until he says it says F.

Second letter is "R," for "racist," which is the basic logic [?] he uses. Obama proposes X; Republicans, Tea Partiers (oops, Baggers), and conservatives oppose X; therefore they are racists. Obama plays golf a lot, R/T/Cs mention the golfing, they are racists. QED.

Third letter is "A" for "abortion," which the evil, oppressive, world-dominating Catholic church opposes.

Fourth letter is "G," for "gay," which is more creative, benevolent and opening to the world than the evil Catholic church and its enablers in the racist Republican conservative tea baggers. (Wait a minute. Tea baggers are anti-gay?)

Racist or not?

Submitted by vote24 on Sat, 01/21/2012 - 2:33pm.

Sorry Billy, the truth is not racist. I lived in a mixed white/black area for 10 yrs. By the end it was mostly black, crime was way up, my home was broken into, my visitors cars were broken into, you could hear gunfire nearly every night, property values plummeted, the schools went down hill in appearance and performance, I was routinely called names (mainly racist or white MF) on the street, and generally fearful of my family's survival. We moved! Am I racist Billy, or Sheila? Am I? I just want to know, because if that makes me racist them I'm ready to embrace my racistness and end the guilt. It is they that made me so...not me. And just FYI, i still have no automatic feelings against anyone until after they show they are a threat to me. So basically Billy and Sheila...bring it bihaches. I fear thee not.

LOL and they call it White Flight

Submitted by stunned on Sat, 01/21/2012 - 9:29pm.

Since the sixties whites who left high crime areas where blacks were attacking them were told they were guilty of racism and the libs even labeled it "white flight" as if the sight of a black family moving into the neighborhood or building caused white families to flee their homes. As if our black middle class neighbors didn't get out of dodge just as quickly when the Bronx melted down. I came from the Bronx in the late sixties as well as my husband and most of the kids in Jersey I grew up with. Our parents moved to the Bronx in the fifties and early sixties because it had been a GREAT place to raise a family for decades. Then the infamous RINO John Lindsey put into place policies and procedures that prevented the cops from enforcing minor "broken window" crimes that quickly can turn a neighborhood upside down because those laws were RACIST and policies that encouraged crimes like arson, Rudy Giulliani reversed those policies and turned the city around almost 20 years ago.

My family was one of the last white holdouts in our building despite my mother having been mugged until one Friday night coming home from work Dad had to step past the body of a murdered neighbor, an hispanic janitor who was killed for his paycheck. A black neighbor bought a home not a mile from where we moved to after they came for a visit a couple of months after our move. EVERY single family we know who left the Bronx and upper Manhattan in those years was the victim of at least one black criminal and often were the victim of multiple attacks. Those men were tough WW II and Korean war vets who only left because they were worried about their wives and kids lives. Some who stayed payed with their lives and my parents went to a couple of funerals for the stubborn and to this day liberals call those who left racists.

As a Latino, I could not

Submitted by Liberallies on Sun, 01/22/2012 - 3:21pm.

As a Latino, I could not agree more. Sadly, similar things happen.

I remember being a young college student, not too long ago, and like an idiot wanting to connect with other Latinos because I had allowed Liberal propaganda to control my behavior. I moved to a not so nice area in Chicago which is a Latino neighborhood. I will never forget the first night I moved in. I heard shooting, police sirens and a final horn which was stuck. Pretty much the same thing through the 365 I stayed there.

However, I will say this. i had a sister who for whatever reason decided to move with her husband to a trailer park type of housing. The stories she tells me are not much different than what I saw in the pretty bad neighborhood in chicago. She finally moved out of the trailer park because, as she put it, "the white trash...", however, there is "the latino trash..." and also "the black trash..." Liberals acknowledge only the first one, the two latter ones they ignore and call you a racist if you affirm that these exist.

Bill Maher - proves it once again. He is bigoted.

Submitted by Gary Hall on Sat, 01/21/2012 - 2:41pm.

I can't imagine anyone would disagree; Bill Maher is one of the more intolerant of the lot.  He is intolerant of conservatives;  especially of white conservatives, and radically intolerant of white Christian conservatives. I suspect that he is intolerant of conservative Jews, as well.

Therefore, Bill Maher is a bigoted person. To the dictionaries:

Ah, my old Webster's New Collegiate Dictionary.

Bigot::  one obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his own church, party, belief, or opinion.

Maher is a declared atheist; in fact, he's so devoted to own belief of atheism that he is intolerant of religion.

That he is intolerant of other's [political] party, other's beliefs [or views], or other's opinions is what he demonstrates on stage for all to see, most any day of the week.

The on-line Merriam-Webster Dictionary doesn't give Maher much of a break, either:

Bigot: a person who is obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices; especially : one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance

Hmm. Just how does he treat the Tea Party?

How about the on-line Oxford Dictionary?

Bigoted: having or revealing an obstinate belief in the superiority of one’s own opinions and a prejudiced intolerance of the opinions of others:

Ouch ! Might as well insert Bill Maher's picture.

And then there's the Cambridge:

Bigoted: a person who has strong, unreasonable ideas, esp. about race or religion, and who thinks anyone who does not have the same beliefs is wrong.

Big ouch.

There's no doubt that there a number of pure racists, and borderline racists amongst members of the Tea Party, just as there are in the Democratic Party, or the New Black Panther movement, "Kill them white cracker babies."

An exception for Maher, might be allowed here if, in this case,  it was an absolute fact that each and every person associated with the tea party was racist, or if racism was a stated or presented platform of the group, that he could be forgiven for being so intolerant of such a group. However, as a group, any and all reasonable thinking people would quickly agree is not the case.

For Maher to treat - to smear - an entire group; be it whites, white Christians, conservative Christians, Republicans, or the Tea Party, with the volume of animus and intolerance which he consistently spews towards other groups of different beliefs, or views, from his own

We can only hope that one of his guests will just come right out and tell it like it is, right to Bill Maher's face.

Bill Maher. You sir, are an intolerant bigoted farce.

Or, as one billboard put it: 'If you voted for Obama in 2008 to prove you're not a racist, then vote for anyone else in 2012 and prove you're not an idiot.'

It is partially what happened in 2008. I can give you quite a few stories of friends who voted for Obama, even though they did not like his policies, because according to them it was time for America to have a black President. I don't know if the same attacks are going to work this year.

As I told a Left wing friend onces, "I, a member of what you Left wing Americans consider a member of a minority group, here by release you from your White guilt!" my friend blew a casket! it was awesome to see. :-)
