Eleanor Clift: Romney Withholding Tax Returns Because They'd Show Offshore Investments and Low Taxes Paid
Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has up to this point opted not to make his tax returns public.
Not surprisingly, Newsweek's Eleanor Clift smells a rat and expressed her conspiratorial opinion during the predictions segment of PBS's McLaughlin Group Friday (video follows with transcript):
ELEANOR CLIFT, NEWSWEEK: Romney’s refusal so far to release his income tax returns will be linked to probable investments in the Cayman Islands and the likelihood that he paid a very small percentage of his income in taxes.

On the contrary, we don't need the ramblings of a 3rd rate reporter who has no evidence of wrongdoing on any Republican candidate's tax return. Tell us again why Da One is withholding EVERYTHING about his past life, including, but not limited to, his school records, his transcripts, his papers, his articles for the Law Review (my bad. he never wrote one of those) his unaltered birth certificate, his passports, where he's traveled, where the money came from for his travels and education (was that taxable?), his friends and associates, his relationship with da Reverend Wright (that's right. He forgot), Bill Ayers (only met him once?).
Did any one of those items trigger a question in your little pea brain mind?

Unless I saw a political advantage to releasing my tax returns early, I wouldn't release anything unless and until I had gotten the nomination, and even then, if I had something to hide, I wouldn't release it..
I don't recall John Edwards releasing his tax returns (although I can't rule out that he did).

Since so many of the President's records have not been released after his three years in office, I know the press will not hold me to a higher standard than they hold the President and expect me to release my records until after I have been President an equal length of time. Assuming, of course, that the President will ever release those records."
CLift: "Mr. Romney, are you referring to the President's birth certificate?"
Romney: "No. Are you? I only aak because certain members of the press have become obsessed with the birth certificate and I had hopes that you were not one of them. Since the President has released his birth certificate, then I have no reason to question its authencity. Do you?"
