Toddler to Say F-Word on Upcoming Episode of Modern Family
Who needs Glee to stretch the boundaries of acceptable behavior on broadcast television?
According to Entertainment Weekly, a toddler will say the F-word on an upcoming episode of ABC's comedy hit Modern Family:
On next week’s Modern Family, toddler Lily is going to use one of the worst of George Carlin’s famous Seven Words You Can Never Say on Television.
The adopted two-and-a-half year-old character somehow picks up the profanity “f–k.” This naturally horrifies her parents, Cam and Mitchell, who in particular fear she’ll blurt it at an upcoming bridal party. Lily is shown saying the word, but it’s not audible to the viewer. The episode’s title: “Little Bo Bleep.” It might be the first time in a scripted family broadcast TV series where a child has said the f-word.
As EW reported, creator Steve Levitan had quite the sales job convincing ABC to go through with this.
That the network bought is quite a comment about the state of America's prime time broadcast media.

I said the f-word to ABC years ago. I never watch them.
What a total lack of creativity.

And this is why we stopped watching virtually all network TV...

in our house years ago. About the only time that we have the TV on network is for sports or local news, and I am not exaggerating. We're pretty much cable watchers now, and even much of that is a wasteland too.
I really don't think ABC can sink any lower than this.

In the future they will stop

In the future they will stop bleeping it out on family shows, and even have such language on children's programming. There will probably be a lot worse content, too. In the future, there will be no shortage of me saying the F-word (figuratively) to the entertainment industry for their lack of morals and boundaries.
oh come on.... how many time

oh come on.... how many time has your kids heard you swear (and you thought you were not loud enuff for them to hear). at that age my son said "oh Shizz" or "effin dog" over something i said, but did not know he hard me!! granted, TV these days like to push the boundaries.. but this is something that is all to common and like the TV parents, they are hoping that their kid does not pick up their potty mouth.
As a kid I never heard

As a kid I never heard my Grandparents say anything off color.
In the 55 years I knew them my parents never said a swear word or told an off-color joke.
I never used such language in the presence of my children.
My kids never use such language any where near their children.
So I guess it does matter which gene pool you go swimming in.

MidAmerica-
Sometimes people say things they don't mean, outloud. I am guilty of that so is my parent. For me, I use sign language when communicating and my hearing son can pick up thru sign and my voice (I use my voice at all times, even when I don't need to, it's a lifelong habit)
I admire you for setting an example for ur kids.
it's called parenting

I don't live in a family of saints but this is one standard that has been perpetuated several generations in my line. Won't talk about my brothers. When parents set a good example you have to either live up to it yourself or admit you are less of a parent than they were. I have no idea what any of these people may have said that I never heard but their gift to me was presenting me with parents with qualities I could admire. That is a great gift to a child, self respect.
This is not some new

This is not some new indicator of the fall of America. This is a plot point that has occurred before in other shows.
And it's a 9 p.m. show, not the 8 o'clock hour.
No need for hyperbole, bal.

Didn't see anywhere in the article where the "fall of America" was intimated.
And it sounds like the ironically-named "Modern Family" is recycling a plot point from Disney's "Good Luck Charlie," though we never were told specifically what naughty word or phrase that toddler was uttering, only learning that she'd picked it up from Mom.
Ooh, but let's make it clear we're talking about the f-word on network television. Utter genius.

Certainly not, I have every confidence that bar gets much lower then this.
I'm sure that's what the producer told the media and FCC

But the primary purpose has really nothing to do with artistic expression. It has to do with publicity and ratings.
The entertainment industry is driven by dollars, and they will attempt virtually anything they think they can get away with -- not unlike the greedy capitalists the industry assaults in the name of social justice.
Sure, it helps with

Sure, it helps with publicity, but it also happens to be something that parents have to deal with (not all, of course).
What kind of world are we living in?

It's no wonder Liberals are so incomprehensible to us. In their world a toddler using the F-word is entertainment but using the term 'illegal alien' is hate speech.

I long ago gave up on their news and most fare but I avoid the network at all costs since the Hank Williams blowout. This will assure they stay on my home's shiite list.

Well, seeing as Greece just put pedophilia (Hollywood must be sooooo happy) on their new list of disabilities, I can see ABC writing future episodes of this show with Lily having a 20-30 year old 'lover'.
And the left will applaud ABC for it's 'cutting edge' writing.
Yes, it will happen.

Sounds funny to me. Remember in a Christmas Story when Ralph said the F word when helping his dad change a tire? Very funny stuff. I love Modern Family. It is one of the best written and acted comedies to come around in a long time.

To each their own opinion but I've tried to watch a few times and find the show slow, meandering and boring. IMHO, they rely a little on shock value and when you aren't shocked or surprised then the show loses a lot. I will say that the acting seems to be done well and the story lines are cohesive but personally not entertaining. As a disclaimer there are not many shows that I do watch and none that I actually plan to watch each week. I watch for escapism and entertainment and a 'thought provoking' show is not likely to register well with me.
Really? I haven't noticed

Really? I haven't noticed much shock value at all on the show. More funny situations, turn of a phrase, and just funny characters. Phil Dunphy. Love that guy.
Yeah, Modern Family may be

Yeah, Modern Family may be one of the least shocking shows on TV right now. I love it though! And this whole thing isn't about getting kids to say bad words-but about the very real situation of how parents react to their toddler saying a dirty word. I look forward to the episode!

When the TV 'censors' bleep out GOD but not Damn (several shows, cable and major network shows have done this, as I have seen), it says everything you need to know about television nowadays. Sad, but true.

Bleeping out God

I have never seen an instance of any program bleeping out the discrete word "God." I have seen multiple cases where it is bleeped when a character utters "G**damn."

I have had no reason to watch ABC or any of the other networks. Looks like I still dont. And the liberals like to say if you dont like it dont watch it. I dont. But yet, it still goes on. What does that say about Americans in general that there is a market for this stuff?
It says Americans in general

Noel, if you really want to be disappointed in American TV, you should watch 2 Broke Girls. It's crude, on at 8:30, and worst of all, not funny.
