Linus Tells Charlie Brown the True Meaning of Christmas
It's become a NewsBusters tradition to have the Peanuts character Linus explain the true meaning of Christmas.
Without further ado (video follows with transcript and commentary):
And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flocks by night, and lo the angel of the Lord came upon them and the glory of the Lord shone round about them, and they were sore afraid, and the angel said unto them, "Fear not, for behold, I bring you tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David, a savior, tis Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you. You shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes lying in a manger."

And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly hosts, praising God and saying, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men."
That's what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown.
NewsBusters and the Media Research Center wish a very Merry Christmas to all their members, readers, and supporters.

...are the zenith of proof Hollywood IS capable of producing uplifting stories. Those few lines of the Bible spoken by Linus are supremely sublime in their use of the voice of a child to speak directly to the hearts and the minds of those in the audience.
Gibsons' 'Passion' explores in exquisite detail of feeling that love our God and our Lord have for each one of us, and is a triumph of the use by God of the resources of even HollywoodBabylon, a primary center of Luciferan power in this world.
Taken together, they form a storytelling duet of the love of God and of our Lord for vain, foolish, selfish, fearful, striving, and proud men such as me.

There is so much proof of the providence of God in the Christmas story. Satan got Mary on that donkey thinking she would miscarry. Then he had them put in a stable so people would not accept a king born in a barn. Then Herod tried to get the wise men to divulge where the child was so he could worship him. He really wanted to kil him and the wise men were sent home a different route. Everything he did played right into God's hand and fulfilled the prophecies.
The 3 gifts? They weren't just any old gift. Each one had a meaning. . They signified Christ as Priest, Saviour, and King. There may have been more than 3 wise men but only three brought gifts.
Amen.

I had this very reading at our Christmas Eve service last night. Someone asked if I didn't have it memorized, and I immediately thought, "I should--Linus has been teaching it to us all these years!"

Watched it Friday night. Several weeks back we went to the Trade It store to get a new monitor. She found the DVD and picked it up. The lady at the counter looked at it and said it was scratched so she gave it to her.. She was planning on watching it while I drove home.We didn't get to go.
The wife can't stand A Christmas Story. We would to my oldest daughter's for Christmas day lunch. She had that on the TV every year. My father in law told my wife to find out when it was on he wanted to watch it.
A Marine's Christmas
Submitted by ricklail on Sun, 12/25/2011 - 11:19am.
Last Sunday my daughter read this in church with members of our church that are deployed being shown behind her. You may have read it before.
Twas the night before Christmas, he lived all alone,
In a one bedroom house made of plaster and stone.
I had come down the chimney with presents to give,
And had to see just who in this home did live.
I looked all about, a strange sight I did see,
No tinsel, No Presents, Not even a tree.
No stocking by the mantle, just boots full of sand.
On the wall hung pictures, of a distant land.
With Medals and Badges, Awards of all kinds,
A sober thought, came to mind.
For this house was different, it was dark and dreary,
I found the home of a Marine, Once I could see clearly.
The Soldier lay sleeping, silent, alone,
Curled up on the floor, In his one bedroom home.
The face was so gentle, The room in such disorder,
Not how I pictured, A United States Soldier.
Was this the hero of whom Id just read?
Curled up on a poncho, The floor for a bed?
I realized the families that I saw this night,
Owed their lives to these soldiers, Who where willing to fight.
Soon around the world, children would play,
And grownups would celebrate, a bright Christmas day.
They enjoyed Freedom, each month of the year,
Because of these soldiers, like the one lying here.
I couldnt help wonder, how many lay alone,
On a cold Christmas Eve, In a land Far from home.
The very thought, brought a tear to my eye.
I dropped to my knees and started to cry.
The soldier awakened, and I heard a rough voice,
"Santa dont cry, this life is my choice;
I fight for Freedom, I dont ask for more,
My life is my God, My Country, My Corps."
The soldier rolled over, and soon drifted to sleep.
I couldnt control it, I continued to weep.
I kept watch for hours, So silent and still
And we both shivered from the cold nights chill.
I didnt want to leave on that cold, dark night,
This Guardian of Honor, so willing to fight.
Then the soldier rolled over, with a voice soft and pure,
Whispered, "Carry on Santa. Its Christmas Day, All is Secure."
One look at my watch, and I knew he was right.
Merry Christmas my friend, And to all a good night.'
Merry Christmas to all those who are performing guard duty on the 38th parallel, some remote out post in Afganistan, perfoming watch on a carrier in the Indian Ocean, loading fuel into a KC-147 tanker in Alaska, floating around the horm of Africa on a troop ship. or walking a guard post at Fort Hood. Because of your service we can celebrate Christmas as a free people.

Let's not forget those that were dying on Christmas 1944 as the Battle of Bulge was raging. Don't forget the bravery of the men of the 101st Airborne and the 10th Armor as they were holding the crossroads at Bastonge, Belgium. Don't forget the men of Patton's 3rd Army that pushed their way further and faster engaging more Germany divisions than had been done before to rescue those men at Bastonge. (The 101st claims they didn't need rescue.) NUTS
