Joy Behar Ends Final Show in Bed With Joe Scarborough
Comedienne Joy Behar ended her final HLN show Thursday evening with a takeoff on the marvelous last episode of the hit series Newhart.
"I had a terrible dream," said a startled Behar in bed after turning on the light (video follows with transcript and commentary):
"I dreamt I had my own TV show and I kept repeating the same stories over and over again," she continued. "Day after day, night after night, it wouldn't end."
The body next to her - played by MSNBC's Joe Scarborough - replied, "Baby, baby. It wasn't a dream. It's cable news. Now go back to bed. I got to get up in a couple hours."
Feeling comforted, Behar said, "Oh, okay. Pleasant dreams, dear," and turned off the light.
Seconds later, Behar scolded, "Joe, not tonight. I have a headache."
Scarborough replied disgustedly, "Damn!"
Now I ask you: even as part of such a humorous spoof, what self-respecting conservative would want to play that role, even if it helps his ratings?
Funny stuff, though.

I'm still nauseous.

I'm guessing Joe coped with the situation by imagining that Joyless was Barrack.

This little Scarborough-Behar vignette makes Newt sitting on a couch with Pelosi look pretty benign.

Newhart was funny and original. Scarborough and Behar, not so.

Actually, I find it pretty funny.
I also think it's appropriate that Behar ended her show where she belongs...in comedy.
OTOH, how much of a stretch is it to see Scarborough in (political) bed with Behar?

Two liberal elitist together, what else is new, I am surprised that Obama isn't between them.
Both of these individuals have the same disdain for America and most American (non liberal) ideals. They both would gladly join "Chrissie" Matthews in the worship of the incompetent administration lead by their hero "0".

Have you seen Secretariat? I have seen that movie at least 5 times, and I cry every single time. Greatest. Horse. Ever. The scenes at the Belmont, 31 lengths, "moving like a great machine" get me every time. Classic. Plus the liberals hate it because of the music, LOL.
Merry Christmas and stay warm, looks tres froid over there right now.

Let it snow Blonde -- yes it is snowing on and off here... when's that damn global warming going kick in...
Missed Secretariat -- I did see that other horse movie SEABISCUIT with Toby McGuire (he played a jockey not the horse)...
But on reflection it's a real insult to Secretariat to have him compared to Behag.

ED racetrack was once located in Carencro in Lafayette Parish. But, that Parish voted down gambling so ED moved to St Landry Parish about 5 yrs ago which is only about 20 miles north. St Landry is also known for generations of country race tracks and where many jockeys got their start. It is also an area known for its large cattle and horse ranches as well as a reputation for "outlaws"...LOL
One of those small country tracks is where they filmed CASEY'S SHADOW, and one of those very large fancy horse ranches is where they filmed parts of Secretariat. ED racetrack has a long history and some of the most famous horses got their "careers" started at ED.
Raising and training of race horses is part of the culture here in south La. We still have a number of "trail rides" here that go along with festivals and holidays. This part of the culture is why ED moved to St Landry Parish. Here is one of those rides

Liked the father and tiny son riding in the same cowboy outfits. :-)
What is the story of these trail rides? Is it just a parade on horseback through town or do they really go out on a trail?

Throughout south La horses are very much a part of our culture. La still is a farming area. The traditional cajun mardi gras is celebrated with a Trail Ride and the riders in costume. They look like this
They ride their horses into the countryside to all the "rich" people's houses where they are allowed to catch a few chickens. Then they ride back to town, make a gumbo, and have a party til midnight. They still have this tradition today. Have you ever seen a bunch of drunks chasing chickens?
Then the trail rides began on a regular basis, not just holidays. A problem ensued when cars were invented so now they must control the number of participants as well as the "trail" taken
The Trails did follow historical areas, like part of La is a part of the "Spanish Trail". They go to certain areas or friendly landowners that allow them to set up areas for cooking, music and dancing. They do these "rides" all year long from Shreveport all the way down to Cocodrie's neck of the woods.
These Trail Rides have been a part of the culture for well over 2 hundred years. Because parts of La is wetlands, cattlemen even bred their own breed of horse especially for that kind of terrain in order to roundup the cattle. They are real short stocky horses and I cant remember the name...LOL Hell when you get old.
But, here is a taste of La. Please buy these stamps next spring . We are kinda proud
I hope to buy some of those beautiful Louisiana stamps when they

The first video ended up a big ole fais do-do. Went to a small one once when I was in New Orleans. It was all military from the base, but they were celebrating Cajun style (sort of).
While I wouldn't go chasing the chickens, I certainly would get a hoot out of it. Thank you for the wonderful peek into your traditions. :-)
BTW, here's the one Cajun a lot of us Yankees knew. Then I found a video of a Cajun girl. Her answer to what's best about being a Cajun is classic. Num, num, num!

If you think back, Arianna Huffington, then a conservative, "shared a bed" with Al Franken in the mid 90s on SNL so this spoof may be viewed as having a double meaning.
Of course the joke might have been even funnier had it included a real conservative, although who would have dared participate, but kudos for trying guys as real humor is and should be universal.
Btw, nothing can ever touch the brilliance of the Newhart gag which took a dusty old concept and immortalized it because of the context and the ending of the show's place in television history in particular and American culture in general.

Bill Maher and Arianna Huffington did a very similar bit on Maher's "Politically Incorrect" ABC show years ago. She was pretending to be a conservative then as Scarborough is pretending now.
