Rick Santorum Schools Candy Crowley on Obama's Appeasement

By Noel Sheppard | December 11, 2011 | 12:09

Noel Sheppard's picture

As NewsBusters has been reporting for days, the Obama-loving media have been doing a collective victory lap concerning the President's appeasement retort "Go ask Osama bin Laden."

When CNN's Candy Crowley tried this during her interview with Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum on Sunday's State of the Union, she got a much-needed education that would help all her foreign policy-challenged colleagues in the press (video follows with partial transcript and commentary):

After Crowley played for her guest comments he made earlier in the week about Obama's appeasement followed by the President's much-revered Osama quip, the two sparred a bit on the issue until Santorum put his foot down:

CANDY CROWLEY, HOST: Let me try to button this up just by saying a couple things. First, I know the President has in fact imposed some tougher sanctions and has in fact said nothing is off the table when it comes to Iran and its nuclear capabilities, but I have to…

RICK SANTORUM: Candy, hold on. Hold on. Stop, Candy. That's just not true. Ask Robert Menendez and ask all the folks in the United States Senate who want to impose the real sanction that will make a difference on Iran and the President has opposed it. Now that's just a fact. He also has recognized the state of Syria, called Assad a reformer, has continued to have an embassy there when in fact this is a real thug that is a real threat to the state of Israel and to the stability of the region.

And again here's the interesting link. It is a client state of Iran. The greatest area he's appeased is Iran which is the greatest threat, and here he is recognizing Assad, setting up an ambassadorship with a client state of Iran who is a great funder of Hezbollah, a threat to Israel and the region. You go to Egypt. Again, he supported the Muslim Brotherhood and the Salafists as it turns out into overthrowing an ally in Egypt. There is a consistent pattern of contingencies that have come up under this administration where he has opposed the freedom fighters and has gone with the radical Islamists. That is a problem for the security of Israel and our country.

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

Indeed it is despite the victory lap on display by Crowley and other so-called journalists who at the moment seem far more interested in the reelection of President Obama than security in the most troubled region of the world.

Crowley

Submitted by Jersey Girl on Sun, 12/11/2011 - 12:21pm.

Time for CNN and MSNBC to knock off the blatant campaigning for this traitorous administration. They contantly misrepresent everything wrong and try to pretend it's all coming up roses for America when we are in grave danger from every part of the world.

His so called intelligent diplomacy has left us staggering under constant assaults from those who know they're dealing with a weakling.

Jersey Girl.......You've got to give President Obama credit

Submitted by Rush Fan on Sun, 12/11/2011 - 4:13pm.

where credit is due. As Obama spokesperson Candy Crowley mistakenly revealed in her interview with Santorum:

I mean this is a president who's killed more terrorists than were killed in the Bush administration. He took out Osama bin Laden. He has launched more drone attacks against terrorist targets than the Bush administration did and yet you accuse him of appeasement which is a very loaded word, as you know, toward terrorists.

It's obvious that President Obama is one tough exterminator. However, Obama spokesperson Candy Crowley may be in big trouble, as she should not have disclosed the fact that the numerous times when he is supposed to be on vacation or playing golf, President Obama is really out of the country alone on dangerous missions killing terrorists and launching drone attacks. The disclosure of President Obama's role in personally killing terrorists had been planned for release just prior to the 2012 elections.

Now you and the world finally know the reason why President Obama rightfully does not credit the policies of George W. Bush or our military when terrorists, such as Osama bin Laden, are killed. If President Obama is forced to do the job of killing bad guys himself, he alone deserves the credit, as Obama spokesperson Candy Crowley so modestly indicated.

There are still a lot more terrorists and other bad guys out there. President Obama deserves at least another four years, and possibly more, to personally finish his job as The Terminator.

Bush pushed hard to get more drones built.
More drones flying now than there were 3 years ago.
Ergo, more drone attacks.
As to her first sentence... Is she saying that the terrorist death toll in Libya and Pakistan is higher than the years of Bush blasting Iraq or Afghanistan, Oh I get it Bush just killed civilians.

That was totally shameless, NS

Submitted by Blonde on Sun, 12/11/2011 - 1:25pm.

Shameless Shilling for the incompetent and inept Obama foreign policy.

After 3 years of OJT, Obama's foreign policy is even more naive than when he was running for office. I find his "playing the Bin Laden" card to be shameless, as well. Particularly in light of Clinton & Panetta forcing him into the go order, the 14 hour decision sleep beforehand, and having to be drug off the golf course for the photo op.

I'm glad Rick Santorum got in her face about it, too. I wish he'd brought up this administration's & DHS' idea of terrorism....Nappy's strip searching little old ladies and sexually assaulting six year olds, the Fort Hood tragedy as "workplace violence", and the democrat euphamisation of the GWOT lexicon. Man-made Disaster, indeed. Nappy didn't know she was hanging a new moniker on The Won, however.

Hey, B,   re the 14 hour

Submitted by motherbelt on Sun, 12/11/2011 - 2:02pm.

Hey, B,   re the 14 hour "decision sleep" , since no one thinks or decides while they sleep, the correct term, as I'm sure you know, is procrastination.

President Scarlett O'Hara decided "I can't think about that now.  I'll think about that tomorrow."

And I'm SO glad you decided not to put that "workplace violence" thing in your list of gaffes.  That's not a gaffe, that's  shameless capitulation to political correctness and Muslims.

"Workplace Violence" ranks right up there with Nappy's "Man Made Disaster" in my book.

IOW, galactic stupidity.

I can understand that, Blonde. Hot Air has said regardng their 'Obamateurism', sometimes it's tough to judge what is amatuerism or stupidity or arrogance. The Obama administration makes everything difficult. The 'most transparent' evah, and still it's hard to tell what is deliberate malfeasance, sheer stupidity, or a blase attitude.

Bringing up the "workplace violence" BS woulda been a great answer to Candy.

Two things

Submitted by bkeyser on Sun, 12/11/2011 - 1:37pm.

One- killing OBL and 22 other high level terrorists reflects great credit upon the military and intelligence communities; Obama deserves some credit as well for allowing these actions to take place, but in no way are they examples of "Foreign Policy" -they're the results of war. War begins when foreign policy ends. State directs foreign policy, Defense takes over when diplomacy reaches its logical conclusion- like when 3000 Americans are murdered by a foreign entity in one day.

Two- liberals seem giddy of Obama's response to the appeasement claims, and yet they ignore the appeasement of one group Obama's appeasing most: the anti-war progressives and pacifist academia. Obama is prematurely ending US troop involvement in two volatile regions against the best advice of his commanders on the ground to appease a core group of voters. Appeasement is almost always a political calculation and this president places politics above all else. Appeasement is his natural instinct.

When war ends, diplomacy takes over. We'll soon see the fruits of Obama's actual foreign policy: supporting the overthrow of Egypt and Libya and the cessation of hostilities in Iraq and Afghanistan. Time will tell.

So true, BK

Submitted by Blonde on Sun, 12/11/2011 - 1:46pm.

I am reminded of one of Santorum's answers in a debate (perhaps the round table one modded by Luntz where he actually received equal time?).

He stated that the jihadis view time differently than we do. They consider centuries to be "short" and we consider ten years to be "long", timewise.   They know that.  But we appear not to.

Which makes Obama's precipitous exit before fully standing up Iraq's fragile democracy for political purposes only makes me fear that our troops precious blood may have been spilled in vain. And THAT is on Obama. The men and women of our armed forces WON that war, despite idiot rules of engagement and the political farce that was the Paul Bremmer administration there.

I am not buying the Obama administration's contention for one second that the Iranians somehow managed to hack their way past the encryption code and take over control of that aircraft.

There is no possible way that happened unless they had help.

And another thing, how did they even know that drone was in the area?

Those drones are programmed to either return to their base or to self-destruct should they encounter a problem.

This drone did neither.

The discourse regarding Israel

Submitted by PJRyan on Sun, 12/11/2011 - 2:16pm.

during the debate was fascinating and very impressive, in spite of the bumbling moderators' shit-disturbing "who do you think is right" amateurism. I thought Michele Bachmann's response that the point is that Obama has it wrong was terrific and should have been part of all the responses.

To the point of the article, I thought Santorum and Bachmann did very well. I'm trying to wrap my head around either as VP. Each are huge improvements over the current mouth-breathing, union shill, but is that enough? (I've seen several Obama2012 bumper stickers around, but no mention of the knuckle-dragger. I think they show him the door. He's an embarrassment even by Dem lack-of-standards.).

Would Santorum ensure carrying Pennsylvania? Would Bachmann bring the Tea Party vote? Could she settle for Veep?

The libstream media and their consistant softball questions in interviews with the Teleprompter-in-chief and just about all other Lib/Dem political hacks is enough of an example of the ongoing lopsided-ness of the political situation in the country today.

Mr Soetero and his merry band of czars ALL know that in a head on confrontation between the TOTUS and a reasonably strong Republican/Conservative candidate, TOTUS and his ilk WILL get their collective asses handed to them and they know it.
