Rosie O'Donnell: Newt Gingrich 'Should Read a History Book'
Rosie O'Donnell, possibly one of the most uninformed people to ever be given a television program, actually ridiculed the intellectual capacity of Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich Thursday.
Appearing with fellow brainiac Joy Behar on the HLN program thankfully in its final shows, O'Donnell called the former Speaker of the House a "joke" saying, "Perhaps he should read a history book" (video follows with transcript and commentary):
JOY BEHAR, HOST: Yes, but I mean, what about Newt's plan to drop the child labor laws and put kids to work as janitors?
ROSIE O'DONNELL: Yes.
BEHAR: I mean, where does he come up with this crap?
O'DONNELL: I don't know. They tried that in Australia many years ago with aboriginal children. It didn't turn out too well. Perhaps he should read a history book. I don't know. That guy is a joke.
I guess the intellectually superior O'Donnell didn't know that Gingrich received a B.A. and an M.A. from Emory University in - wait for it! - history, and later received a Ph.D. from Tulane University in - wait for it again! - modern European history eventually becoming a - wait one last time! - history professor at West Georgia College.
One quite imagines Gingrich likely read a couple of history books during that period in his life.
Of course, he later went on to write 25 books, many of them about - ahem - history.
But I'm sure he'd be no match in a contest on this subject with the perilously clueless O'Donnell.

How sad for O'Donnell and ironic. As Noel pointed out above, Gingrich has a doctorate in history. O'Donnell is not capable in engaging in thoughtful discussion --- instead she must hurl invectives in the place of argument. Her inability to go toe to toe with a Coulter or Gingrich must really grate at her.

The big brush gets used too often and I'm sure both sides believe that only the 'other side' does it but there is a difference between college professor doing his job or earning a new job and college professor appointed to a post with no real world experience trying to shoehorn reality into their theories and blaming everyone else when it doesn't work.

In Japanese High Schools they don't use Janitors. At the end of the day of school the kids do the cleaning. It leads to a good work ethic and no graffiti because the kids have to clean it up themselves. Would it be so terrible if we did that in the States? Well, the public service unions would go crazy because they couldn't collect dues from the janitors. So, we get graffiti covered schools and kids who don't know what it means to do a days work and "occupy" instead of working.
