Elisabeth Hasselbeck Mocks Bill Maher: 'You're So Brilliant - I Actually Feel Smarter Sitting Next To You'

By Noel Sheppard | November 15, 2011 | 21:01

Noel Sheppard's picture

As you've probably heard by now, Bill Maher got quite an unfriendly welcome from Elisabeth Hasselbeck on Tuesday's The View.

The best part that largely went overlooked was when the host of HBO's Real Time predictably disparaged the intelligence of Republicans only to be quickly mocked by the female foe to his left who countered, "You’re so brilliant. Wow, I actually feel smarter sitting next to you" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

BARBARA WALTERS: Okay. Herman Cain, you saw him this morning. You see the political candidates. Give me your overall view of him particular, and in general as a candidate?

BILL MAHER: Well, first of all, I think it's great that the scandal on Herman Cain has moved away from sex to the fact that he's an idiot where it belongs. I misjudged the Republicans - they will vote for a black man if he’s a complete imbecile. I didn’t realize that.

WALTERS: How many people have we just offended? Okay, go ahead.

JOY BEHAR: He doesn't care.

MAHER: I don't care. But it's true. I mean, you saw that tape. You know, I mean, it's only a few days removed from the Rick Perry where he was the idiot of the week. I mean, you have to realize that the Republican Party doesn't care about knowledge or knowing things.

ELISABETH HASSELBECK: That's untrue, Bill. You know, because you’re so brilliant. Wow, I actually feel smarter sitting next to you.

So Republicans will only vote for a black man if he's a complete imbecile?

Does that include Obama?

After all, nine percent of Republicans voted for him in 2008?

What was that you were saying about complete imbeciles, Bill?

For those interested in some of the sparks that flew prior to this exchange, Fox Nation has the full video.

Elizabeth diminishes herself by appearing on The View. The other women obviously despise her, especially that pig Behar. Their contempt for her is obvious. She ought to get her own gig; she's eons above those boobs on the View intellectually.

I honestly believe you would do less damage to your brain if you simply shot yourself in the head with a nail gun, rather than listen to anything Maher might have to say. Ms. Goldberg should have slapped him silly the second he insulted Mr. Cain.

Who really watches The View, anyway - besides lobotomy patients, I mean? But combine the waste of life that is Bill Maher with the shrews of The View and you have achieved toxic levels of nausea.

I saw this exchange this

Submitted by Liberallies on Tue, 11/15/2011 - 9:43pm.

I saw this exchange this morning while working out on the treadmill.

Hasselback pointed out Bill Maher's hypocrisy. The guy was going on and on about the need to respect women, etc. Hasselback shot back asking him if how he treated her and what he said about her back in February is how he thinks others should respect women. It was obvious that Maher was quite uncomfortable and knew he had been caught. it was beautiful!!!

Sadly, Maher is a wacko. What I do not understand is the women that I know women who think he is so great. Whenever I point out his obvious misogyny, they say it is just his comedic act, much how this woman hater defend it. But that is just it. Liberal women love to talk about being pro-women, that they want and demand respect yet they seem to adore, love and want to sleep with some of the most disrespectful to women men, Ted Kennedy, Bill Clinton, Bill Maher, etc, etc.

Why do Liberal women who claim to be pro-feminist, pro-women admire Liberal men who see women as objects and things that are there for their pleasure and to be used and abused?  Stockholm syndrome?

The funny part is Bill's too stupid to recognize the insult.

Submitted by drsamherman on Tue, 11/15/2011 - 10:32pm.

Like most liberals, he pushes the lie that his cynicism is intellect. That is hardly the case. In cases where I have treated those who were labeled "cynics", the diagnosis ends up more like major depressive disorder, Bipolar II (no schizophrenic features) or a mixed depression/anxiety/panic disorder with massive signs of cluster B symptoms (borderline personality disorder subtypes). I have yet to see a "pure cynic" liberal that fails to show at least one major mood disorder with accompanying personality features concomitant with the major diagnosis.

Maher's insult of Hasselbeck

Submitted by Radical1979 on Tue, 11/15/2011 - 10:40pm.

NB didn't show the insulting remark Maher made about Hasselbeck a few months ago. Does anyone remember how horribly Glen Beck was treated when Goldberg and Walters felt he had insulted them? Maher didn't get that treatment. Walters tried to bring it up, but the rest of them threw her under the bus.

Ah well, she's not the sharpest tool in the shed. Which is why they allow her to stay.

The only good humor is conservative humor

Submitted by Clevenative on Tue, 11/15/2011 - 10:49pm.

...like gay, racial, or ethnic jokes. But unfortunately most of us don't "get it". (I lived and worked around enough conservatives to feel confident in that assessment, thank you.)

Why is only a 67 second excerpt of The View inteview included here? Are you short on hard drive space at Newsbusters or what? I'm sure a quick email to David Koch could take care of that. Nothing like hacking the video and cutting Maher's rebuttal to fill your narrative and claim victory, Andy Breitbart II.

The entire segment is 8 1/2 minutes and can be seen here - along with a more accurate "take" on the incident... Bill Maher on ‘The View’: Elisabeth Hasselbeck gets angry again (Video)

Funny how comments here at Newsbusters make her sound like Indira Gandhi - when anyone else would have seen her as just another angry crusty vindictive conservative - and hardly the match for Maher's biting sarcasm. But you folks worship Sister Sarah, "Tuti-Fruity" Bachmann (Cain's words not mine) , and Atilla Anne Coulter too - so not too surprising I guess. They're all winners in your eyes.

Bill Maher barely got through answering his opening question before Hasselbeck confronted Maher. She first brought up a "Real Time" comment where Maher used her as the brunt of a joke and basically tried to get him to apologize - insisting it was not about her, that it was offensive "to women". (Yeah right) If Barbara Walters hadn't interupted, interjected comments about living with the "Baba Wawa" thing for years, and tried to continue the interview, "Princess" Hasselbeck would have never let up. (BTW I never noticed - she's got those Fox News Anchor legs - if she ever needs another job where she might feel a bit more "at home".)

Hey meat.............. welcome back to the jungle. Have you explained any of your latest round of insults, diatribes, sneers, and idiotic posts?? Or are you just going to start on a new set of them??

Since you're such a big Donkeyface fan - I guess you've never noticed his penchant for gay, racial, and ethnic 'jokes' ( in his drug-addled mind, they're funny........to anyone with any sense, it's immature school-boy stupidity) - as well as anti-women jokes - or maybe I should clarify that to say anti-conservative women. He's also well known for going after any and all religions, and especially Christians and Jews, which is probably a guilt mechanism to try and make an excuse for the fact that he's half Jewish himself.

Yeah........'we conservatives' don't 'get' Donkeyface's humor...........and rightly so. And I've watched the guy, so don't get on your high lib horse and tell me that I don't know what I'm talking about. He's the kind of guy that is a perfect example of what is wrong with this country.............I guess that's why you're a fan. You think Maher could pull off his schtick anywhere else??? And live to tell about it???

As I said the other night..........you must be gay - you've got a problem with Hasselbacks legs??? You'd probably rather see Donkeyface in the shower, right???

You are an interesting clinical presentation, Clevie.

Submitted by drsamherman on Tue, 11/15/2011 - 11:40pm.

On some posts, you insist that conservatives do not understand science or statistics and then you launch into a narrative about your personal experiences which are anything but scientific or statistical. Which is it? The contradictions inherent in all of your posts are logically irreconcilable. If you do so firmly believe in science and statistics as you espouse, then you would provide some greater level of evidence outside of your personal and very biased experiences. Bias is not scientific, it is bias no matter how you term it. As for statistics, you would fall into what medical and scientific literature terms an "n of 1" or "n = 1" case, which is no more scientifically or statistically valid than somebody telling jokes at a run-down comedy club. The non-sequitur seems to be your major specialty.

What does David Koch have to do with this outside of your self-professed liberal fantasies that somehow all of the Koch's activities are at the level of conspiracy? Honestly, you sound more and more like your drug levels are subtherapeutic or you are incapable of any response that is not programmed by some liberal diatribe. Again, which is it?

In the final analysis, you have proven to be nothing but a mass of contradictions. There is absolutely nothing uniform about you except your constant verbal diarrhea about "conservatives" and how well you know them. Nothing adds up in your case. You only seem interested in the "gotcha" moment like some badly staged political advertisement. What drives you I do not know, but I can only say that my professional experience puts you into a diagnostic category which is hardly flattering.

If I can’t comment based on personal experience then what can I go by? What Fox News tells me?

I come from a very conservative family. I have numerous relatives who are or have been Republican politicians. I worked for some of them over the years. I’ve been to a LOT of Republican/conservative gatherings, parties, and yes even fund raisers.

I’ll never say that any of those “stereotypes” are unique to conservatives. I know better. And yes, I have often heard even my liberal friends tell off-color racial or gay “jokes” – but most of that was a few decades ago when it was commonplace, before “politically correct” was even in the dictionary. And yes, I know and have known plenty of Democrats who are racist - and homophobes.

All I am saying is that, as a Party, Republicans seem far less concerned with civil rights of anyone but “their kind” and it has shown in legislation over the past 40 years. That some people interpret that as an indication of “hate” should be of no surprise. Most Republicans/conservatives also balk at the term “politically correct” much more than do liberals. Many conservatives, IMO, are still “stuck in the 60s” in that regard. They are far less “sensitive” to others (except their own – then it’s defend to blood). I suppose it’s part of those “traditional values” and unwillingness to “change” or have “progressive” views. All dirty words to “true conservatives”. Whether or not anything I express is 100% truth – it’s what I see as the truth. Asking for “scientific evidence” for things that are unknown or for which there can be no definite “research” with certainty is just asking for trouble. So for some of my beliefs, based solely on personal experiences, we’ll just have to agree to disagree. But I can guarantee you that, unlike most Republicans, I have few “beliefs” that aren’t based on facts or data. I’m not much for blind faith – call me a “Doubting Thomas”.

Clevenative, for claiming to

Submitted by Liberallies on Wed, 11/16/2011 - 2:50am.

Clevenative,

for claiming to be a "douting thomas" you do certainly adhere to Left Wing orthodoxy.

You are a walking Liberal cliche! but you are too full of yourself to realize it.

Please keep in spewing every single Left wing belief and stereotype that you believe and adhere to when it comes to Conservatives.

Kid, we've all seen your kind before. Poor tools of the Left who attempt to claim authority by claiming he/she related to Republicans, worked with Republicans. The next step is to inform us all how you served in the military.

And go easy on Killa from now on.  Obama just declared him "Asian" so he is officially a racial minority, which seems strange since Asians seem to make up the largest population in the world.

Bubba.......................'go easy on Killa'???? Jeez...............this guy is so far out of his league that he's in the parking lot of a stadium in double-A ball. And I REALLY believe all of those tales of being 60 years old, a home owner, a gun owner, coming from a Republican family, working for various Republican family members, and bla bla bla. This dope seems to equate 'Republican' with all of us knuckle-dragging Neandrathals ............when most of us would probably describe ourselves as 'Conservatives'.
And since the guy is so adamantly anti-'teabagger', then I've got to believe that he's a big supporter of the biggest and most intrusive and most insidious government involvment in our lives as possible, where the government controls our day to day lives and tells us what we can and cannot do. But I DO believe his tale of being in a union.............although he won't tell us which one, which is strange, considering how proud he is of it.

As far as now being 'Asian', and being in Asia...........well, you know what I think about Asian women, right???

You toss stuff our way but don't give examples....your " truth " is anything but. I'm amazed at what has to be ignored by libs to hold the position. Happily, we have seen conservatism at work and succeed, sadly ditto for liberalism which fails....a la Greece, Spain and on and on.

This guy actually prefers Bill Maher over Elizabeth Hasselbeck. How sick is that?

Almost as sick as that Penn State Assistant Coach who got fired.

Cleve, do you even realize how cliche you are?

Submitted by Phryj1 on Wed, 11/16/2011 - 2:34am.

Seriously, you defend Kos's vitriol, you like Bill Maher, you accuse conservatives of being racist, you act like conservatism is some sort of mental disease, you can't stand Fox News, and you've repeated practically verbatim every anti-conservative smear and talking point in the book.

How does it feel to be a stereotype?

Progressives seem to be completely averse to facts and logic. Apparently, reality has a conservative bias.

I would have expected an "Access Denied" by your name or some edit of your comment. I guess it's the voluntary way in which you decided to throw yourself into the conservative gladiator arena. So, you got all your barbs in...now what? It's only a matter of time before you're shown the door.
It has to be said- the ratings boost for a well known comedian being torn apart by a gorgeous woman who had her feelings hurt. It looked like Maher was about to apologize then realized it was a setup. I hope Hasselback goes on his show. LOL

Why didn't they walk out on

Submitted by Bhaal on Tue, 11/15/2011 - 10:56pm.

Why didn't they walk out on Maher like they did O'Rielly? Using the logic they used on the O'Rielly episode wouldn't saying that all Republicans are stupid, be just as insulting and biased as saying "Muslims attacked us on 9/11"?

"For evil to triumph it is enough only that good men do nothing".

I don't watch Maher, ever since..

Submitted by greggy on Wed, 11/16/2011 - 12:49am.

I came to fully understand on a personal level, rather than just a conceptual level, that life is short, valuable, and shouldn't be wasted on narcissistic morons.

That said, I did happen to see him live on This Week, a show I almost never watch, when the first comment out of his mouth was that Brazil got off oil 30 years ago. And I do remember him on Politically Incorrect (an odd name for a show given that Maher is all about political correctness), whining and crying in front of a national television audience like a little bitch, because he had bought a woman a plane ticket and she didn't put out for him (can you blame her?).

I also remember very clearly his saying "When I think of the Republicans I like, they're the mean old men who are gonna watch my money". I also remember him, when challenged on his supposedly ardent PETA support vs. his leather shoes, saying it was OK because "these are bought for me".

Maher is a nasty, sarcastic, arrogant jerk whose opinion of his own intellect is vastly inflated.

Maher went from somewhat

Submitted by amyshulk on Wed, 11/16/2011 - 3:34am.

Maher went from somewhat funny to bitter, and became unbearable to anyone with a sense of fairness long ago IMO.

The government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.

Whoopi doesn't respect Maher.

He might as well have been invisible. She didn't say one word the entire interview from what I've seen. Good for her. She just ignored him. Is that a Kindle on her lap? Maybe she was reading a good novel.
