Ann Coulter Calls Politico's Herman Cain Hit Piece 'Another High-Tech Lynching'
Politico stunned the presidential campaign Sunday night with a hit piece on Herman Cain alleging with unnamed sources that two women accused the Republican candidate of "inappropriate behavior" decades ago.
Appearing on Fox News's Geraldo At Large moments after the story broke, conservative author Ann Coulter said, "It's outrageous the way liberals treat a black conservative. This is another high-tech lynching" (video follows with transcript and commentary):
GERALDO RIVERA, HOST: Ann Coulter, big deal not so big?
ANN COULTER: It's outrageous the way liberals treat a black conservative. This is another high-tech lynching. Even the allegations…
RIVERA: In the words of Clarence Thomas, the Supreme Court justice?
COULTER: That’s right. There’s nothing liberals fear more than a black conservative. Ask Allen West, ask Michael Steele, and ask Clarence Thomas. And even what the allegations are here, I mean, it shows you how the civil rights juggernaut has gone off the rails. The idea of civil rights laws to begin with ironically was to protect blacks from Democrats in the south who wouldn't protect them. Now it’s white women in Scarsdale who say, “Ooh, I don't like that he called me honey.”
And even what the allegations in this – sorry, I was pointing to my iPhone where I just read about it - it's not groping. It’s not touching. It’s not that he demanded sex. It's that he had remarks that they found inappropriate. One is that he had inappropriate gestures that were not overtly sexual. Well what were they then? This isn't dropping your pants and saying, “Kiss it.” This is an outrageous attack on a black conservative who is doing extremely well and I think will be our vice presidential candidate.
Even sadder, Cain predicted this would happen five months ago. As the Washington Examiner's Byron York reported in May:
But wouldn't liberals and Democrats still find a racially-based way to attack Cain? They certainly found a way to attack Clarence Thomas, the black, conservative Supreme Court justice.
"They're going to come after me more viciously than they would a white candidate," Cain responded. "You're right. Clarence Thomas. And so, to use Clarence Thomas as an example, I'm ready for the same high-tech lynching that he went through -- for the good of this country." Cain smiled broadly. "I'm ready for the same high-tech lynching."
Well, here it is, Herman. What's your next move?
