Politico's Roger Simon: Being Racist Helps in Republican Primaries

By Noel Sheppard | October 30, 2011 | 14:47

Noel Sheppard's picture

There are times when I'm sickened by what I see so-called journalists do on television.

Sunday was one of those times when Politico's Roger Simon, appearing on CNN's Reliable Sources, said being "a little bit racist perhaps, gives you good bona fides in a Republican primary. It shows them you're on the same side as they are" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

ROGER SIMON, POLITICO: Can I just say one thing about the birther issue? It's not a fun issue to poke somebody on. It is more than a little bit racist. It grew, not everyone who believes it is a racist, but it grew out of the belief that a black man could not be legitimately elected to the President of the United States. Now why would Perry use that in the primaries instead of saving it for the general when he's running against President Obama? Well, it's because being extreme perhaps, and, a little bit racist perhaps, gives you good bona fides in a Republican primary. It shows them you're on the same side as they are.

HOWARD KURTZ, HOST: So it’s a bit of a dog whistle.

SIMON: Absolutely.

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

Maybe Simon ought to talk to his colleague at Politico Ben Smith who informed MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell on April 22 of this year that birtherism was created by Hillary Clinton supporters when they correctly feared that Barack Obama was going to win the Democratic presidential nomination in 2008:

BEN SMITH, POLITICO: Actually, what it goes back to is the Clinton campaign, and not Clinton herself or her staff, but her supporters. As she was losing in the sort of really bitter spring of 2008, some of her passionate supporters were kind of grasping at straws for, you know, reasons he could be ineligible to run for president. Some of them said, “Well maybe his father’s a foreigner. Maybe that means he’s not a citizen.” And they got very excited about that, and then they looked at the law, and that turned out not to be true. And this was sort of a backup strategy, “Oh, what if he was actually born in Kenya?” And it was ludicrous, and they produced ludicrous, forged birth certificates and things like this. And this kind of bubbled through the ’08 campaign.

As such, birtherism didn't grow "out of the belief that a black man could not be legitimately elected to the President of the United States." It was a claim Obama wasn't born in America started by Clinton supporters who just wanted to defeat him.

Why does that little bit of history rarely surface when so-called journalists are discussing birtherism and racism in American politics?

Far more importantly, why is acceptable for someone like Simon to go on national television and accuse Republican primary voters of being racist especially in the context of birtherism which was created by Democratic primary voters?

Sadly, no one on the set including host Howard Kurtz offered a challenge to this deplorable nonsense.

I wonder why.

I caught this segment in the airport and was not stunned that this was said. It's typical lefty projection. But was stunned that nobody, not even self-styled "ombudsman" Kurtz raised an eyebrow. He just laid it on thicker with his "dog whistle" remark. If I was on that panel it would take all my energy to keep from doing a big roundhouse style bitch slap to all their faces. It was the kind of show that would make Joseph Goebbels proud.

...everyone and anyone who's not on the same side as Obama is going to be called a racist by these people. Just ask Bill and Hillary Clinton (2008 Dem primaries).

The Obama re-election committee - also known as the MSM - has worn the race card to death over the past 3 years. A national joke, at this point.

yes they are, every day they implode more and more. soon they will be so far into their corner they have to come out fighting, with physical form, their words, speeches, lectures and any other form of speech has not made a dent into anyone.

we could eliminate racists from the vocabulary by stating everyone is, so we all are and therefore it never needs to be discussed. That would leave them with nothing to discuss.

Racism is the new "cry

Submitted by Skragnon on Sun, 10/30/2011 - 3:31pm.

Racism is the new "cry wolf".

It has been called out so often now by the Obama flunkies that people are beginning to tire of the screams coming from their TV. They look at the comments that are "racist" and say to themselves "How is that racist?". We aren't told how something is racist, just that it is.

The calls of racism are losing their impact, and I actually fear for the instance of real racism that will now be yawned about because people will say "Again? Doubt it.".

Skrag.

Oddly enough, before people

Oddly enough, before people even started to question OBAMA's birthplace, the crazy left was already running pre-emptive stories about JOHN McCAIN'S citizenship and his eligibility to run for President

Too bad the "racists" meme

Submitted by jdhawk on Sun, 10/30/2011 - 3:49pm.

Too bad the "racists" meme isn't working for the socialist media as Cain is leading the polls nationwide and tied with Romney in Iowa. Iowa being the mainstay of the midwest for African Americans an all, it just goes to show you that conservatives are voting on what the candidate stands for and not what he or she looks like, the color of the sking, etc.

Too bad, lamestream media, that meme isn't working . . . .

On other news, when will the criminal DOJ head, Holder, going to be brought to justice for giving guns to narco terrorists, blaming Americans for giving the guns to them, and then the result being Mexican agents and citizens as well as our own Border Patrol agents being murdered with those guns?

When is the lamestream media going to report on O'bummer's "jobs" plan that isn't anything more than a tax plan with enormous increases in spending going to unions (which is a money laundering scheme that goes right back into dimocrat coffers) and no tax "cuts" until long after he is gone from office even if reelected?

When is the lamestream media going to report that we recently went over 100% debt to GDP?

When . . . .

I am not holding my breath!

DEMOCRATS a lot more Racist

Submitted by MCLANTIERE on Sun, 10/30/2011 - 7:32pm.

Seems to me that RACISM had EVERYTHING to do with Democrat 2008 nominee ... offering up a man with a hint of COLOR ... absolutely NO qualifications or credentials ... and touting him as the sea-rising messiah! Aside from his half-black skin ... exactly WHAT were his qualifications to get the biggest job in America?

Al Sharpton, King Shabazz, Maxine Waters, and young Jesse Jackson, Jr., along with the cracker-wanna-be-Afros Chris Matthews, Bill Maher, and Clean & Articulate Harry Reid ... THESE are America's RACISTS.

Racist?

Submitted by djm159 on Sun, 10/30/2011 - 8:18pm.

The only racist running for president is Barack Hussein Obama and being a racist certainly helps the democrat party because the majority of African-Americans look to the democrat party to survive. They cannot buy food or pay for rent without the government handouts. They are not free they have just changed plantations. If I hear the "Bull Connor" comments one more time I think I will puke. Bull Connor was a democrat, not a republican, but of course the GOP will never fight back and set the record straight, they are far too "dignified" which boils down to stupid. We need a third party that isn't afraid to call a spade a spade (no pun intended) and not afraid to challenge the state run media of the Obama regime and confront the indoctrination of our children who are being embroiled in liberalism by their teachers as early as the first grade. It is not teaching and the instructors are not teachers, they are indoctrinators and it is working. Karl Marx himself couldn't have done a better job.

A link between Simon's racist canard and Justiagate

Submitted by tanzanite on Sun, 10/30/2011 - 8:36pm.

The REAL issue is not race--never has been race, but the leftists keep beating that drum constantly and loudly so the public won't discover the real problem with Obama's eligibility, which is totally unrelated to his birth certificate.

The author of the articles below provides readers with comprehensive screenshot evidence that leading up to the 2008 election, someone at Justia.com altered 25 Supreme Court references to the precedent-setting case Minor v. Happersett in which the judges defined the term "natural born" citizen as someone born on US soil to parents who are BOTH US citizens. People with dual citizenship status do not meet the court's definition. Their ruling was deleted in an attempt to alter history in order to benefit Obama. Had that information been readily available to legal researchers and journalists in advance of the election, Obama would not be president today.

These links are posted in order with the most recent articles listed first.

Minor v. Happersett did not solve the issue of natural born citizen. Not by a long shot.

It is a poster that has an account for 2 years and this is it's first post.

Hey freakshow, if you bother to show up again --- hear this. I hate hate hate this President. This is the worst President this country has ever had, hands down. This is a President that Ace of Spades refers to as a SCOAMF. I won't bother explaining it as this is a website where we can't post curse words. But the F stands for failure. And it is true. This is the most dangerous President I have seen in my lifetime. Hate. Hate. Hate. I hate this President.

But as much as I hate this President, I friggin' hate you stupid stupid stupid birthers squared. Not a damn one of you has the brains God gave cucumbers. You are friggin' as stupid as they come. As much as I hate this President, idiots like you make me want to see him win just to shove you and your birther crap up the ass of the birther beside you.

Screw you birther. You are a nothing but a sad joke. And you give the people that oppose this President for valid reasons a bad name.

Since the primary is for those into party politics, while the general includes everybody!

Inane!!!
