Kathy Bates: I Want Obama 'To Stand Up on His Hind Legs and Fight These Rat Bastards'
Academy Award-winning actress Kathy Bates wants President Obama "to stand up on his hind legs and fight these rat bastards."
When asked by the host of CNN's Piers Morgan Tonight to elaborate, Bates said Friday, "I think he has got to indict these guys from Wall Street. Somebody's got pay for that mess" (video follows with transcript and commentary):
PIERS MORGAN, HOST: What do you make of what's going on now in Washington, President Obama, the whole political shakeup at the moment?
KATHY BATES: Well, you know, I have to kind of go back and say that I -- I grew up in Memphis, Tennessee. I grew up in a segregated town. When I went back my first year in college, that spring, I had my first black friend. I wanted to bring her home. And my father said, "Are you crazy? You want to start a race riot?"
And I was like -- I didn't understand it because my parents were from another generation. My dad was born in 1900, my mom in 1907. I came very late in life to them. Long story short, that was the spring that Martin Luther King was slaughtered in my hometown.
Fast forward now to, what is it three -- two years ago, I'm in Paris, I'm on my computer watching these election results, because I've gotten so inspired by this man -- and I'm so apolitical. And for the first time in I don't know how many years, I was just galvanized by this election. It was so emotional to me.
The last two years, I want to go back, something my father said to me -- he always said, "Stand up on your hind legs and fight." And that's what I'd like to say to my president, whom I'm so proud of. But I want him to stand up on his hind legs and fight these rat bastards. And he has got do it.
MORGAN: Who do you mean by the rat bastards?
BATES: Well, I think he's got to indict these guys from Wall Street. Somebody's got pay for that mess. And I don't think it's the American public.
MORGAN: Because you believe that basically that was the catalyst for all the problems that are going on now?
BATES: I think it was the catalyst for many. It certainly was the catalyst for our loss of faith.
MORGAN: It does seem extraordinary not one of them has ever been put in jail. Not one. The biggest financial crisis in history. It came out of pure greed and wanton irresponsibility and nobody has ever carried the can.
BATES: Well, and it's is like Steinbeck said in "Grapes of Wrath," who's the bank? When everybody was losing everything, who is behind all of this? Who's really running the country? Who's really pulling the strings?
And I think we have all lost faith. And we don't know what to do. And there are no jobs. And we are looking at a lineup, in my opinion, of Republicans like --
MORGAN: Do you feel alarmed by what you see?
BATES: I do. I do feel alarmed for the country.
MORGAN: When you see the Tea Party who are very polarizing, but they're increasingly popular. When you see the Tea Party candidates and the views that they espouse, what do you think?
BATES: I don't espouse their views. I'm not that conservative. I do feel -- I guess I'm more of a Democrat at heart, although I've never affiliated myself with a particular party.
Given that Bates called Rush Limbaugh a drug addict on her television program earlier this year, "Democrat at heart" about covers it.
Also of note is how the Left always blames America's current condition on Wall Street without ever acknowledging the Clinton era pieces of legislation that deregulated banks, securities firms, insurance companies, and financial derivatives thereby enabling the housing and credit bubbles that lead to the eventual collapse.
I know that's asking too much.
Forgive me.

A kangaroo? (No offense roo)
Furthermore, just why is it that she thinks the Obama Administration hasn't gone after these guys on Wall Street? The crash happened right at the end of '08 so Bush's DoJ and SEC couldn't have begun the investigation -all his guys were leaving. So here comes Obama, swept in office in part with the populist "us vs. them" message, and he refused to go after them. Why, Kathy? Why?
Maybe because he needs their money for his own aspirations? That's inspiring, huh?
Maybe because they looked into it, and a legal procedure would expose a lot of things this White House doesn't want exposed? Hmmm.
Or, maybe they didn't do anything illegal and only acted on the rules put upon them by Obama's party. Maybe the names Dodd and Frank plastered all over the headlines in connection with Wall Street acquittals, might not go over so well before the 2012 election?
I keep hearing this "blame the Wall Street execs" and how they should all be charged, convicted, and imprisoned, but no one ever asks why Mr. Class Warfare would rather commit war against a despot in Libya without Congressional authorization than criminally investigate the real scourge of the planet, evil banksters.

You're right, bob....Bates is definitely implying that the president walks around on four legs.

But of course, Morgan, pathetic as he is, doesn't ask her about that; he asks her about the "rat bastards."

We need to elevate even our insults up above the level of the line-Democrats. Just one hundred years ago they were riding around on horses wearing white sheets. They many have taken over Hollywood in the FDR era but the independent Internet ready nonunion productions are the future of entertainment.
Bates will hang on another ten years getting the occasional paycheck from Broadway, or a money losing movie or theater in a liberal sanctum like San Francisco but she is going.

When you are a large going Concern with cash flow sleazy men will come visit you and either you pick a side or you have to pay both sides. Most MBAs in their stupidity try to pick the winning side. For the last hundred years that has not been the side that was good for American business. The absolutely corrupt bay both sides off.
If you refuse to give then you and your employees live in no man's land. Sometimes in the news you hear about a family business "rocked with scandals" Those scandals are just what the Civil Service cooks up to plague anyone who tries neutrality. There are no Switzerlands in America. There haven't been any since the Civil War.

Submitted by MikeB on Sun, 10/23/2011 - 5:14pm.
Do you really think so, mandrake? Consider that Gibson Guitar did not contribute to Ear Leader, but the other manufacturers did. Consider that the government went after Gibson Guitar for using "illegal" wood from India in their guitar necks that the Indian government said was legal. Consider that the other guitar manufaturers use the same wood from the same source, but that they are not being hassled about it.
It doesn't sound at all paranoid to me. And, remember, "Just because you're paranoid, it doesn't mean they're not out to get you."
You, a cynic? Hardly.

You are utterly ignorant of even basic history knowledge. For a long time, a NB poster had a great quote, which, the more I think about, is very very true. From Will Durant, it states that there is actually very little real difference between a politician and a gangster. (Or words to that effect.)

I think that she plays one of those vicious lady lawyers on a show that the advertisers should be charging the networks for having on. You know the kind where they sue American manufactures assume improbable guilt and then never show the thousands of people losing their jobs or the towns closing down when the companys go under as the result.
Here is an idea for a series make her a lawyer but like Kenny on South Park who comes back from the dead each week. Have her stopped by the forces of good over several story arcs each year. They can try wooden stakes and silver bullets, court decisions but at the character everyone loves to hate nothing would stop her for long.. I would enjoy watching a house fall on Kathy Bates and it might give some lawyers a clue.

Perhaps the fact that no one was ever indicted or went to jail was because there exists insufficient evidence to show that they violated any law.

Sorry about that, bubba!!! It is a pretty hideous thought, for sure!!
I know Florida is loaded with sharks, and I hear that the bull sharks are pretty ferocious and aggressive. I've also seen the news articles about the guy stepping on one in Oregon, and the diver in western Australia. Truth be known, I personally know at least 3 people here who are missing body parts because of shark attacks, including Bethany Hamilton, who is the focus of a movie that came out this year. Another young man that is my son's age got hit while he was still a teenager and is missing a lower leg.
Last year, a surfing buddy of mine got flung out of the water when a tiger shark swam up under him and took a big bite out of his board - he actually landed back on the sharks head, straddling it, with his okole against the dorsal fin!!! I wasn't out that afternoon, but a lot of people saw it happen!!! I've seen 'the man in the gray suit' occasionally - it will give you the heebie-jeebies, because we ARE in their turf.
Actually, it's 'pup season' right about this time of year - Bethany was attacked on a Halloween - so it's something to be paid attention to, and I have a penchant for surfing until dark, after work. But it's Sunday morning here now,and the ocean bouy reports, and a couple phone calls, have told me that it is about 6-12' today, on a fresh new northwest swell. I was down there all day yesterday, playing music for the handicapped people, and the ocean was flat as a board...................so as soon as I drink my coffee, I'll be heading down to the bay.

Kathy's new show, Harry's Law. (Is she Harry? Don't answer that, sorry I asked..) But I did see about two minutes of it - and apparently, she was the good, altruistic liberal lawyer, opposing the jerk conservative lawyer - who was of course played by a short, almost bald, red headed unattractive man (get it? he's ugly on the outside, therefore..). She was strutting around, cocky, condescending to the conservative lawyer, while they both took turns bloviating their respective political philosophies (something that happens quite rarely in real courtrooms).
Of course, in Hollywood scripts every legal matter, every case has political ramifications and is always a referendum on the virtue and brilliance and compassion of liberals, vs. the corruption, stupidity, simple-mindedness, bigotry, and hard-heartedness of conservatives.
Ever watch Boston Legal? David Kelley's weekly love letter to liberals? James Spader is the younger, smarter, liberal crusader, always bucking up against some conservative dunce. Denny Crane is the older, fatter, pompous conservative, who is going senile, and only seems to win his cases any more with crass stunts.
Of course, Spader's character, the liberal, loves Denny, the doddery old conservative, in spite of himself. According to the show's storyline, the pompous, full of himself liberal attorney, somehow finds love in his heart for the doddery old conservative, in spite of all his obvious intellectual inferiority (ie; conservatism). Because that's what liberals (even pompous, obnoxious egotists) do, apparently..because they're SO tolerant.
And who is the chief scriptwriter on Kathy Bate's new show?
David Kelley.
I am forever highly amused by the faux outrage and indignation liberals feel toward Rush Limbaugh for having developed a drug addiction. Isn't it overwhelmingly liberals who favor legalizing pot, and harder drugs? Isn't recreational drug use far more accepted amongst liberals than conservatives? Isn't Hollywood notorious for the use of cocaine and other "designer" drugs? Hasn't Hollywood made dozens if not hundreds of films, that made light of illegal drug use or promoted drug legalization (Traffic, anyone?)
So spare me all your (un)righteous indignation over Rush Limbaugh's drug problem.

I'm not saying someone shouldn't be indicted. I'm saying put up - or shut up. And Piers Morgan and his ilk should be fired for not pushing the issue with these jag-a-muffins.

The couple of prosecutions that Bush did try under the Justice departments' novel theories got the DOJ their heads handed back to them whenever the Wall Street targets stood up on their hind legs and fought back. Wall Street has not been doing much insider trading or money laundering and has tried every bit as hard as the SEC to catch Ponzi schemes. In fact has caught more Ponzi schemes because like the Jewelry store owner who shoots his fifth robber the police don't want it known that private citizens stop more crime than police. That might embarrass Vice President Biden.
Newt Gingrich was right; if anyone should go to jail for the housing bubble crash it should be Barney Frank and Chris Dodd. That mess they brewed up during the Clinton administration was directly at fault and the community reinvestment act from Jimmy Carters years though indirect should get his Presidential pension canceled.
You forgot the other culprit in all this.

Yeah, you're so right -Barney and Chris caused much of it - but let's not let George W Bush off the hook for his compassionate -"ownership society" baloney. You first earn it -then you buy it- and after that is when you, own it!

Up until not so very long ago 'survival of the fittest' actually was working. Now that we can keep all sorts of mental and physical 'unfit' people alive and well and let them procreate the gene pool is getting tres weaker rather than stronger.
That which you tax you get less of. That which you subsidize you get more of. Welfare, paid for by taking money by force from successful people. QED.

but Piers Morgan doesnt know that the banks were forced to make subprime loans by the government??? Also the greed of people (us) caused this problem. I know many people who purchased homes they couldnt afford, refinanced after some equity built up, and then purchased an SUV and a Boat...then just walked away when the house of cards came crashing down. I also know people who bought homes they could afford, but when the prices plummetted decided that they no longer wanted to pay for that property (because they could go get a better home for half the price), and ignored their contract, and also walked away. So who is to blame??? Wall Street?? They put a gun to your heads and made you buy a home????

Sounds like raving liberal Kathy Bates called the POTUS a dog. Or, wss she calling him a bear. Or, did she mean something like an orangutang or chimp, or gorilla or monkey?
Come on, Kathy, make yourself clear. What type of animal were you calling Obama?

Instead of "standing on his hind legs" and doing anything, how about we fire the rest of the democrats in the senate, rather than just the house of representatives, who created this mess when they took over the congress in 2007. Obama is right, he inherited this "mess" but he is wrong about from whom he inherited it. That would be the Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid Congress.
Remember prior to 1/3/2007:
Dow Jones was at 12,621.77
GDP for the previous quarter was 3.5%
Unemployment rate was 4.6%
Bush's economic policies set a record of 52 straight months of job creation
Remember 1/3/2007
Barney Frank took over the House Financial Services Committee
Chris Dodd took over the Senate Banking Committee
Bush asked congress 17 times to stop Fannie and Freddie starting in 2001 because he considered it financially risky for the US economy, but got voted down each time by guess who?
Who took the highest payoff from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. None other than Senator B. Hussein Obama.
Wonder who is to blame for the mess we are in? The second rate actress, Ms. Bates, is certainly entitled to her opinion, but not her own set of facts. Wall Street to blame? I think not. Democrat party to blame for this situation.
