What Biden-Loving Media Miss: Violent Crime in America Down Four Years in a Row

While media outlets such as CBS News celebrate Vice President Joe Biden's claim that rape and murder will increase if the President's jobs bill isn't passed, they've all ignored a crucial point.

According to a report released by the Federal Bureau of Investigation last month, despite the recession with its associated state and city budget cuts, violent crime in America has declined four years in a row:

According to the figures released today by the FBI, the estimated number of violent crimes in 2010 declined for the fourth consecutive year. Property crimes also decreased, marking this the eighth straight year that the collective estimates for these offenses declined.

The 2010 statistics show that the estimated volumes of violent and property crimes declined 6.0 percent and 2.7 percent, respectively, when compared with the 2009 estimates. The violent crime rate for the year was 403.6 offenses per 100,000 inhabitants (a 6.5 percent decrease from the 2009 rate), and the property crime rate was 2,941.9 offenses per 100,000 persons (a 3.3 percent decrease from the 2009 figure).

On Friday's "Morning Joe" on MSNBC, co-host Mika Brzezinski and New York magazine's John Heilemann also applauded Biden's comments. Ed Schultz did so as well on his program Thursday evening. Unfortunately, none of these shows provided the actual statistics concerning this matter.

Shouldn't it be incumbent on any so-called news outlet addressing Biden's remarks to actually delve into the crime numbers, or would that be too much like real journalism?

Something else that could be mentioned if the media truly wanted to do their job was that as crime rates have declined, gun ownership has increased.

As conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh pointed out on his program Thursday, the National Rifle Association sees an inconvenient nexus here the press want to ignore:

Violent crime decreased six percent between 2009 and 2010, including a four percent decrease in murder and a ten percent decrease in robbery. Since 1991, when violent crime peaked, it has decreased 47 percent to a 36-year low. Murder has fallen 51 percent to a 46-year low. At the same time, the number of guns that Americans own has risen by about 90 million. Predictions by gun control supporters, that increasing the number of guns, particularly handguns and so-called "assault weapons," would cause crime to increase, have been proven profoundly lacking in clairvoyance.

Much as supplying the actual crime statistics in reports concerning Biden's comments, it would have been nice to see the gun ownership numbers as well.

But that wouldn't fit the agenda, would it?

It should also be noted!!!

That actual spending has NOT gone down. If anything the rate of increase has slowed up a bit. The government spent over 125 billion more in 2011 than it did in 2010, and is on pace to spend even more in 2012. The only reduction has been in the size of the increase!!! Got to love baseline budgeting...

Biden has a point Noel-It [violence] could change on a dime, if

Submitted by Gary Hall on Fri, 10/21/2011 - 11:53am.

Biden has a point Noel. It [violence] could change on a dime, if:

Democrats in Massachusetts were leading a rally for union members; Congressman Capuano, D., Massachusetts, told the cheering crowd:

  • “I’m proud to be here with people who understand that it’s more than just sending an email to get you going. Every once and awhile you need to get out on the streets and get a little bloody when necessary. ”

And this -- code [threat] for what's going to happen if a white Republican wins the next election.

  • Congressional Black Caucus, CBC, Chairman Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.) announcement last month that unhappy members of the Congressional Black Caucus “probably would be marching on the White House” if Obama were not president.

Change, their way - or change, their way.

When you have a wretched

Submitted by ThePickle on Fri, 10/21/2011 - 12:07pm.

When you have a wretched economy, sky high unemployment rate and have broken just about every promise to your base, the only thing left you have to run on is fear and hyperbole.

Its seems that every time some Dem politician looks to be in trouble in the polls he almost automatically lashes out with the idea that his opponents WANT death, murder, rape and mayhem and that only by enacting Liberal policies can a vulnerable and weak populace be "saved" from the inevitable apocalypse.

Law & Order

Is Biden seriously campaigning on "law & order"? I thought that was racist.

Gee, what happened almost 4 years ago?

Submitted by Ashrak on Fri, 10/21/2011 - 5:41pm.

Oh yeah, Heller happened.

Hilariously, Joe Biden grabbed on to a position often touted as a reason to support carrying a firearm trying to play the fear card to support this "jobs" bill.

What do you want when confronted with a robber or a rapist? Another cop down the street writing a seat belt ticket or a .45 ACP?

Interestingly, the majority decision admits plainly -

"Putting all of these textual elements together, we find that they guarantee the individual right to possess and carry weapons in case of confrontation."

Sadly for Biden, he has grasped onto an argument, misused as it is in his presented context, that is irrelevant to not only his position on this legislation, but to the right to keep and the right to bear itself.

Biden once again tries to present that the idea of a "free standing interest balancing approach" affords government the ability to do anything its operators want to do, especially for "safety".

Biden can flounder around all he wants to, heck, he can eve dream about a 2016 run. Then he can wake up that even Democrat voters have turned him down when asked to place him in the Oval Office - TWICE.

If he really wants a shot at that Office, his best bet is to see a quick impeachment over the GunWalker Scandal, casting the 50-50 tie in the Senate for conviction and finish out the next year as a place "holder". Ouch, that pun hurt my sides badly to even type.....

There is no doubt that crime IS going to increase in the coming months and even few years. That is because the Democrats went off their collective (or is that collectivist?) rockers and spent this nation into oblivion.

It is my hope that folks have listened and prepared. It is a very bumpy road going forward. Oh, and more stimulus spending "building roads and bridges" isn't going to bring anything positive.

That an individual right exists requires that some policy positions be removed from the table of debate.

Crazy Uncle Joe WRONG?

Oh no, couldnt be-hes so smart, and funny! And friggin idiotic! Wow, if Dan Quayle ever made any kind of statement like that, youd still be hearing about it, such as his "oe" for potatoe, even though the word being spelled was POTATOES, which was correct!

They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. BEN FRANKLIN

Biden's eyes

Submitted by BarnicleBill on Sat, 10/22/2011 - 12:09pm.

It looks like Biden has had an eye job, or Botox or something. Hair plugs, eye lift, botox. How can you trust a man who isn't comfortable in his own skin? Wake up, Champ! Sixty-nine is sixty-nine, own it. Pitiful.
