Bashir on GOP Debate: Everyone But Romney Auditioning for Job on Fox News

By Noel Sheppard | October 18, 2011 | 21:49

Hours before Republican presidential candidates faced off in Tuesday's debate in Las Vegas, Martin Bashir took a swipe at six of them.

On the MSNBC program bearing his name, the host said that since Mitt Romney is "the inevitable candidate," the rest of the contestants are auditioning "for future employment" at Fox News (video follows with transcript and commentary):

MARTIN BASHIR: In one sense, this debate isn't really about who's going to run for president in 2012 because most experts in the field of (unintelligible) already have Mitt Romney as the inevitable candidate, and he looks well, he looks well-set. No, this debate is an audition for future employment. It's not The X Factor, it's The Fox News Factor, because even those individuals at the bottom of the polling heap know that if they can cause a stir, they, too, could secure a lucrative contract just like Sarah Palin at their favorite network.

That's quite a statement given the pathetic prime time lineup at the network Bashir works for.

The media in general is pushing Romney. They know Obama is in bad shape and want to salvage what they can. RomneyCare, Global Warming nonsense, immigration, etc. Romney is their second choice. I can't stand the guy. Forget his politics, he is just too fake. He is Obama with an R in front of his name. If we can't get a sincere nominee in this time around, it will never happen.

Don't count America out just yet. The left is making a very desperate and dangerous gamble to try to keep Obama in the White House, and with each passing day, the risk of it blowing up in their stupid, smug faces grows.

The real reason the MSM likes Romney.

Submitted by Phryj1 on Wed, 10/19/2011 - 2:06am.

The individual mandate. Since ultimately that was what galvanized the Tea Party against Obama and led to the huge losses for Dems in 2010, the Dems' MSMinions want to help Romney get the nomination as a means of spitting in the faces of the Tea Party. That's what it's about, the MSM's seething hatred for conservatives. That's why they immediately slandered and smeared the Tea Party at every opportunity. That's why they lie and claim the Tea Party/conservatives are 'extreme right'. It's why they trotted out Democrat senators to blame the Tea Party for the Obama/Reid Downgrade of 2011. Heck, it's probably a big reason why the MSM loves OWS: it gives them a way to marginalize conservatives and essentially tell them their views don't matter and the Tea Parties don't count as activism.

Shrill partisan favoritism has replaced journalistic integrity and objectivity. The MSM is beyond all doubt the publicity arm of the Democrat party. Nothing more.

Progressives seem to be completely averse to facts and logic. Apparently, reality has a conservative bias.

I'd say if there was any 'intolerance' going on around here, it's towards stupidity, idiocy, lack of common sense, anti-Americanism, communism, socialism, REAL racism, re-distributism, and a whole boatload of other characteristics and traits that are exhibited daily by a vast number of members of the MSM and elected politicians, as well as ignorant or misinformed people.

As for 'religious intolerance'...........you wouldn't be talking about Islam and the mooooooooooooooooooooooooslems, would you?? You know, the 'religion of peace'??? The most open-minded, up-to-date, and tolerant religion in the world???

I've seen a few 'crazies' on this website, but I've seen a helluva lot more informed, bright, sharp, and sensical people - and I've learned quite a few things from being here - things that I WOULDN'T ever know about if I was just some dope who believed soundbites and followed whereever our dear leaders would have me go.

Submitted by FAR52 on Wed, 10/19/2011 - 3:41pm.

I read NB every day, but rarely venture into the comments. I had no idea that the moderators allowed such hateful posts to litter their otherwise impressive site. And yes, condemning all Muslims because of the incomprehensible actions of a few Muslims is not only intolerant, but it is antithetical of conservative thinking. Of American thinking for that matter. Don't be a hypocrite

Submitted by CobraMan on Wed, 10/19/2011 - 3:49pm.

There's not a lot of those "hateful posts" you dislike in this otherwise "impressive site." For, if there were, you would have stopped reading NB a long time ago, So, please, follow your own advice and try not to generalize everyone here because of a few statements made by a very small minority of the posters. For if you do continue to generalize like that, you're just as hypocritical, just as intolerant, as the people you think are so hateful.

Submitted by FAR52 on Wed, 10/19/2011 - 3:59pm.

Are you kidding? Nearly everyone here came to Dave's defense. And you saw Killa's views on Muslims. Seems to me that there are more than just a small minority of the crazies that post here at NB. But if you are telling me that this is an abberation, I'll have to accept that because, like I said, I rarely venture into the comments. But these kind of posts make all republicans look bad. This is a mainstream republican site and just look at what the moderators are tolerating. It's indefensible.

There you go, generalizing again. "Nearly everyone?" Really? In a site with several thousand members? Once again you show your own hypocrisy.

Ok, give me a count of the people who actually made those "hateful" comments and those who "supported" them and divide that total with the number of people who commented here in this thread. I would really like to see that number. Until you do that, until you prove that "nearly everyone" is acting as you say, you have made nothing but unsubstantiated claims.

Submitted by killa37 on Wed, 10/19/2011 - 4:07pm.

Jeez - I learn something new every day!!! 'This is a mainstream republican site'???? Well, that pretty much ends my affiliation with NB, because the last thing I would call myself is a 'mainstream republican'!!!

Thanks for the info...............

Actually, FAR-OUT, I've been to mooooooooooooooooooooslem countries, so I have views based on some shred of reality. And I'm not intolerant towards the vast majority of them, since they just wake up every day and try to survive, like billions of other people. They aren't the problem, but I don't see the problem getting any better...............just look around the world where the moooooooooooooslems are - and 'do the math', and you'll understand what I'm talking about.

When I hear and see actual

Submitted by killa37 on Wed, 10/19/2011 - 4:00pm.

When I hear and see actual proof of 'all Muslims' condeming , AND actually doing something about, the 'incomprehensible actions' of a few mooooooooooooooooslems, then I might change my way of thinking - but I'm not holding my breath on that one.
And when the 'religion of Peace' actually places 'American thinking' or 'conservative thinking' above their own agenda and lifestyle, I might change my way of thinking - but i"m not holding my breath on that one either. In my opinion, if someone wants to be an American, then they damn well ought to be an American..............and not move over here with the idea of taking advantage of our country, our laws, our freedoms and our culture, while trying to impose their own political/religious dogma on us- and Islam is a TOTAL lifestyle..............it is insidious and incorporates every aspect of their life...................personally, I'm not giving up my own hard-earned and hard-fought way of life to ANYONE who thinks I should be following some false and illegitimate way of living that they are espousing - whether it's the moooooooooooooooooooslems, or the libs, or the commies, or the racists, or the re-distributionists, or the class-warfare baiters, or anyone else.

You could complain to the moderators here, if you have a problem with any posts..........they seem to be reasonable. I got 'banned' once for a few hours for something that I considered to be pretty inocuous..........but they let me back on after I made my case. I'm not sure, sometimes, if there is a whole lot of difference between 'hate' and 'truth', especially given the unbelievable and astonishing crap that is constantly thrown out there with little or no question as to it's veracity or content of truth.

Where's the proof?

Submitted by CobraMan on Wed, 10/19/2011 - 3:30pm.

Where's the proof of these supposed auditions? Are there tapes? Transcripts? Applications? There isn't any, of course. There's only a televised debate. No one in their right mind would ever equate a political debate with a studio audition, which brings us to you....

Submitted by FAR52 on Wed, 10/19/2011 - 4:04pm.

Yeah, it's a subtle way of dissing the chances of the other inconsequential candidates -- like Bachman, Santorum, Cain and Newt (though I really like Newt). They know they can't win, but elevating their profile may get them a call from FOX News when this whole thing is over.

Ok, I see

Submitted by CobraMan on Wed, 10/19/2011 - 4:11pm.

Ok, I see, they're not really auditioning for Fox news, except that they really are. That's rather contradictory on your part, don't your think?

Here's what you seem so forget: These people didn't attend a debate because they want to raise their profile, as you claim. They're in the debate because they're CANDIDATES! They were INVITED! You may not accept them as candidates, you may not even thing they should be candidates, but they ARE candidates so why not include them in a debate between candidates?

Please, explain it to me.

Submitted by CobraMan on Wed, 10/19/2011 - 4:34pm.

Please, by all means, explain to me how invited candidates who attended a debate are actually just media whores who wish to audition for Fox news. If they REALLY wanted to work for Fox news, wouldn't they, you know, apply for a position as a commentator?

Like it or not, these people are actual GOP candidates (they would not have been invited to a debate if they weren't, you see). Minimize their chances all you want, but, please, don't try to deny their candidacy by calling it a publicity stunt. It's insulting to them and to their supporters. All you're doing is showing your own personal bias, just like Bashir is.

Defending/agreeing with Bashir?

Submitted by Rukus on Wed, 10/19/2011 - 8:50pm.

You've done yourself no favors there. Bashir is an anti-American creep, deal with it. And I believe only about 3 of us backed up Dave, I'm proud to be one of them and I'm even more elated that your itty bitty widdle feewings got hurted, see me smile. Don't ever claim to be a conservative (which isn't the same as Republican sparky) after defending/agreeing with a POS like Bashir.

Also, you say you don't venture into the comments section much? Do us all a favor and go back to that. Or keep spinning in circles 'cause you can't answer Cobra's straight forward questions. Whatever. It's still a free country... for now.
