Shocking AP Headline: 'Obama Disconnects Rhetoric, Reality'

By Noel Sheppard | October 10, 2011 | 10:22

Noel Sheppard's picture

Many right-thinking Americans have been wondering when Obama-loving news outlets would notice that even Democrats don't support the president's new jobs bill.

On Monday, the truth came from a surprising source - the Associated Press:

In President Barack Obama's sales pitch for his jobs bill, there are two versions of reality: The one in his speeches and the one actually unfolding in Washington.

When Obama accuses Republicans of standing in the way of his nearly $450 billion plan, he ignores the fact that his own party has struggled to unite behind the proposal.

When the president says Republicans haven't explained what they oppose in the plan, he skips over the fact that Republicans who control the House actually have done that in detail.

And when he calls on Congress to "pass this bill now," he slides past the point that Democrats control the Senate and were never prepared to move immediately, given other priorities. Senators are expected to vote Tuesday on opening debate on the bill, a month after the president unveiled it with a call for its immediate passage.

Yes, those paragraphs are really from an AP piece. So's this one:

For example, when Obama says his jobs plan is made up of ideas that have historically had bipartisan support, he stops the point there. Not mentioned is that Republicans have never embraced the tax increases that he is proposing to cover the cost of his plan.

So Obama has been less than honest concerning this matter. If only his supporters at most of the other news outlets would notice and share the inconvenient truth as the AP did.

As an interesting sidebar, when this piece was originally published, NewsBusters member Bob Keyser observed the following at the end of the article: "EDITOR'S NOTE _ An occasional look behind the rhetoric of public officials."

As you can see in the PDF he sent me of the piece, this was there as of 9:28 AM. Now it's not.

I wonder if the editor realized he or she was divulging too much about the rarity of such honesty.

Hmmm.

*****Update: The Washington Post published this AP piece with the editor's note. That means the folks at Yahoo decided to remove it. Nice!

You can not ignore Sarah Palin

Submitted by JamesPhilip on Mon, 10/10/2011 - 10:48am.

Since this site has chosen to ignore the speech Sarah Palin gave on Friday....
I submit a video you should watch. This is what I consider to be one of, if not the best, speech that Sarah Palin has ever given.

Question... after you watch it, do you really think any of the Republican candidates could or would be able to make a similar speech? That is why she is not running. She has a more important mission.... to attack the entire corrupt political system and to promote Conservative principles.

Like all communist/Fascist/wacko dictators (or wannabe dictators in Bambi's case), Da One is coming unhinged.  It happens to all of them sooner or later.  Thank God it happened to this RBFPOS in time for us to correct the biggest mistake in the history of the Republic in the upcoming election.  I'm only wondering how much more damage he can cause in the next few months.

It is time for at least a hand full of patriotic Democrats who actually believe in our system of government to step up publicly and call Bull Shiite on this sorry excuse of a president.

It does no good for conservatives to hammer him, because the MSM calls it "just politics."  We need a real liberal, hopefully a sane one if he or she can be found anymore, to step out and help save this country from any more destruction from this joke that a majority of voters elected.  How sad is that?

I saw this little article by AP yesterday - I was kind of amazed at what it said..........and the fact that it made it to print, small as it was!!! I'm sure that they will be getting woodsheded soon, or at least tried to.........I've said all along that if the press turns on Boy Barry, he really will be toast - because they were complicit in the big scam, so it's going to take a complete collapse in their own opinion to finally stop covering for him. I don't see it yet - but I do see more and more small shreds of it.

Hey................a thousands small cuts can do him in just as well as one big hack, right???

The media has served Obama as the biggest best paid Public Relations firm in history that hopefully will never be seen again in our country. No matter what he said, how outrageous, how stupid they had a collective orgasm and swooned at his feet. He started thinking he was a god and could do no wrong and suddenly he is hit square in the face with the ice water of reality. The media have betrayed their job as watchdog for the people and can no longer be called a free press. They are the problem.

WHY does no one ever point out that the TEA Party goers, went to rallies, had the rally, never had sleep overs, cleaned up, and then went home in order to prepare for WORK Monday morning? In addition, WHY does no one in the media point out that TEA stands for TAXED ENOUGH ALREADY??? These maggots in the parks of NY and in the streets of Washington are bottom feeders waiting for my TAX dollars to flow into their pockets. NO MORE! the AP can look toward getting a progressive Republican in the Oval Office. Those who operate the AP know that Barry is toast and so under the bus he goes. Watch for the Mitt and Rick show to garner saturation not yet seen.

There is no shift here by the AP. There is no sudden moment of insight or turning over a new leaf. They feel empowered because they are licking their chops at the field of party owned pubbies and preparing to anoint another in a long line of media chosen Presidents.

Don't be fooled. This is just more of Old Media's same game.

The majority of economists

Submitted by coin of the realm on Mon, 10/10/2011 - 5:25pm.

surveyed say the Obama plan will add jobs and stop the downward slide of the economy. The notion that the republicans espouse that he wont compromise with them is absurd to anyone who follows the offers and counter offers. To the repubs the word 'compromise' means to do everything they want and nothing Obama wants.

I guess if the so called job creators aren't creating jobs then lets take back some of those tax gifts they have been enjoying for more than 10 years and put the money towards creating jobs. face it, if they haven't been hiring bc of taxes then they aint gonna hire if they get more tax breaks. How can any reasonable analysts argue that tax rates or uncertainty are the primary factor in any hiring decisions by businesses? Especially considering that a large number of companies pay no taxes, low taxes or , in some cases, actually get paid money by the gov. I mean, common man, record profits, record levels of cash on hand, multi -decade lows in taxes and low interest rates. But they are not hiring bc of the debt or health care??!!

Quit the political propaganda and let the truth win out once in a while even though it is not aligned with republican idea;logy and rhetoric. Your credibility would be much improved if you where to act like you are really interested in fighting political bias in the media by not taking a stance that is politically biased. It wont kill ya to admit that the facts are not liberal talking points, but just facts.

For 2012, but........

Submitted by Par for the Course on Mon, 10/10/2011 - 6:01pm.

The majority of economists surveyed say the Obama plan will add jobs and stop the downward slide of the economy.

I don't think the American Jobs Act is going to make that much of a difference. It appears to give a boost to employment in 2012, an election year, but that's about it.

Obama plan would make small dent in jobless rate

[...]

Obama estimates his American Jobs Act would lower unemployment by just a single percentage point by next year, to just over 8 percent, heading into the 2012 presidential election.

Burned before by making overly optimistic job-creation predictions, the White House turned to prominent outside economists to crunch the numbers.

The projection of 1.9 million new jobs, a 1 percentage point drop in the unemployment rate and a 2 percentage point increase in the gross domestic product under Obama's plan came from Mark Zandi, chief economist of Moody's Analytics.

[...]

Zandi, who has advised both Republican and Democratic lawmakers, said he's still sticking with his forecast, mainly because the stimulus in the plan, including a temporary reduction in Social Security taxes for both employees and employers and infrastructure spending, would come in 2012 and be paid for later.

But there is one feature Obama doesn't emphasize.

Zandi said his job-creation figure only applies to 2012.

"Beginning in 2013, and certainly into 2014, the plan is a drag on the economy because the stimulus starts fading away," he said. "So by 2015, the economy is in the same place as now, as if there were no jobs package."

[...]

So, by 2015, even with Obama's American Jobs Act, the economy will be roughly in the same place it would have been as if there were no jobs package. I don't know about you, but I would prefer long-term growth policies, rather than short-term tax and spend stop-gap measures.

[...]

The Obama-Zandi target of 1.9 million new jobs next year, or 158,000 a month, is somewhat higher than private analyses that suggest the plan would create 100,000 to 150,000 jobs a month.

Heidi Shierholz, economist for the labor-leaning Economic Policy Institute, calculates it would take job growth of 400,000 every month for three years in a row to get back to the 5 percent jobless rate last seen in December 2007, at the recession's outset.

Submitted by Trix Rabbit on Mon, 10/10/2011 - 8:36pm.

Right. A few questions.

1) Who consists of this "majority of economists"? I'm no expert on economics, but I have been doing accounting for enough years to know that if I ran a business the way his majesty and his yes-men run the government, I would be put in jail.

One more thing. If you mention that epic failure of intellectualism, paul krugman, I will have to call b.s. on you.

2) What exactly are these jobs and where are they to be found? Are they part-time? Are they only in blue states? Are they given to only those unions and fringe groups that supported his majesty? Are they burger-flipping jobs at McDonalds?

Be honest. There are NO jobs and it is not the evil bastard republicans who are impeding job growth.

For the MSM: In your pomp and all your glory, you're a poorer man than me.  As you lick the boots of death born out of fear.
