Matthews and Fineman Worry Obama Could Get Hurt Supporting Wall Street Protests

Despite most media outlets gushing and fawning over the Occupy Wall Street protests, MSNBC's Chris Matthews and the Huffington Post's Howard Fineman see risks to President Obama and the Democrats supporting the movement.

The host of The Chris Matthews Show is even concerned this could be a return to 1968 when riots outside the Democratic National Convention in Chicago played a huge role in Richard Nixon's victory that November (video follows with transcript and commentary):

CHRIS MATTHEWS, HOST: Howard, great question historically for you: What happens if the Democrats, the president, on down, the Congress, the Democrats, join up with the protesters? What's the risk?

HOWARD FINEMAN, HUFFINGTON POST: Well, there are two risks. First of all, despite what Dan said, it's also true that these protesters don't particularly like Barack Obama either. So he could be riding in to join an army that doesn't particularly want him. And of course the other side of it is Republicans are already positioning themselves - you showed a clip of Richard Nixon from a generation ago - as the law and order group. And if the president joins up with the protesters, and if by any chance the protesters do anything untoward, in the months ahead…

MATTHEWS: Violence.

FINEMAN: Yes.

MATTHEWS: It’s going to be like the mid-60s. The Democrats got hurt by all of that in ’68.

Indeed they did. And as Britain's The Daily Mail reported Saturday, the protests have already taken on an ugly side with trash piling up all over New York City and participants finding peculiar places to relieve themselves.

With this in mind, Democrats and their media minions might want to temper their support for a movement that has the potential to spin out of control at any moment.

If there is something from this 'movement' (as in bowel movement) that Boy Barry can use to his adavantage - he'll use it for all it's worth. If it looks like it will hurt him, he'll just pretend that he didn't know anything about it..............a la Reverend Wright and so many other things that he 'didn't know about'.............

What's the matter Matthews?

Submitted by rbosque on Sun, 10/09/2011 - 7:04pm.

What's the matter Matthews? Afraid that Obama will take a hit in the polls for supporting those loons?

Well guess what? They're HIS PEOPLE! He's not only supporting these nut-jobs, Obama is their sponsor!

They're YOUR people you own them! Good luck with that!

You know this movement will forever be sealed to that pic at the top of the Daily Mail. (which should really be tagged NSFW. Just sayin ;))

The funniest part? Obama himself is bought and paid for...

Submitted by Phryj1 on Sun, 10/09/2011 - 7:32pm.

...by Wall St. and several large corporations (GE, health insurers, green tech companies, etc) who have in turn recieved massive kickbacks and gobs of corporate welfare in return, particularly in the form of Frank/Dodd (which Obama is using as proof he's tough on Wall Street!) and Obamacare. There would've been even more if Cap and Tax passed.

Not that any of that's prevented Obama's Soros-backed netroots and union cronies from astroturfing and trying to co-opt the movement. And if the Occupationistas actually do something stupid (riots, cyber attacks, other forms of inciting chaos and panic) it WILL bring down not just Obama, but the bulk of the more liberal Dems as well.

Progressives seem to be completely averse to facts and logic. Apparently, reality has a conservative bias.

It's like some surreal play. Obama's foot soldiers are protesting the very institutions that funded his campaign.

I find it a bit humerous....

These kids are taught in school to romanticize the riots of the 60's. I remember being told what noble people the college students of that day and age where. These kids and old people, I have seen a few aging hippies in the crowds, are trying to resurrect, in my opinion, the fame and history they think thay are going to be known for.

I think Rush is right, in that thezse people want their lives to mean something. It is just sad that they think this will give it meaning.

Submitted by Boudin on Sun, 10/09/2011 - 8:23pm.

By his heels. I have seen DC cops do that, and trample nitwits with Horses. Hell, I have seen White House Police throw protesters back over the fence, they did not always make it on the first try either.

I saw this while sitting on Lafayette's Hat in the late 70's and early 80's. I was there to celebrate the 4th, others were there protesting dope and nukes. Me and my friends loved a train wreck back then

When does a protest group become a hostile one?

Submitted by djwolf12 on Sun, 10/09/2011 - 9:57pm.

When they actually stifle a Civil Rights activist from speaking in front of them. That never happened with the Tea Party. When will this group of racists be called out for what they are by the media????

Mathews and Fineman are correct

Submitted by MidAmerica on Sun, 10/09/2011 - 10:04pm.

and they should know since they witnessed the 1960's political damage the democrats experienced by being associated with lawless street fighters.

The country is tired.  They are tired of the constant political presence of obama.  Never have we had a President who just won't shut up and leave the country alone.  We are Americans.  We can deal almost every personal problem without the government.   But obama is like a bad guest who doesn't know when to leave.  .....and finally the guest has to be told to go.

It certainly will hurt Obama in the end, to have his image on the "Obama 2012" posters being carried in this mob, seen nightly by the viewing public-- and he's making a HUGE mistake getting the unions to join their little street-urinating mobs-- I say, let them do it-- when you're opponent is committing self-destruction, DON'T get in his way!

The Dear Ruler is a stinking freedom-hating commie himself

Submitted by Dave. on Sun, 10/09/2011 - 10:15pm.

As such, it stands to reason that he would support the stinking freedom-hating commie protesters.

He probably has his flock of commie goons, with the help of comrade Soros, instigating these "protests," anyway.

After all, they are helping to hide the fact that the Dear Ruler has been in bed with the Wall Streeters from the very beginning.

Funny that these idiot government-educated protesters are totally ignorant of that fact.

But government schools suck, after all, and they are the primary reason why America is about to die.

And that, in a nutshell, is

Submitted by Slyrr on Sun, 10/09/2011 - 10:14pm.

And that, in a nutshell, is the problem with the liberal, leftist media. They are not 'fair'. They are not 'impartial'. They are not 'unbiased'. They are not even really news organizations anymore. They're spin doctors, hucksters, shaisters and cheerleaders for Democrat politicians.

They look at EVERYTHING through the prism of: 'Will this hurt 'our boy' and his chances to hold total power?' Doesn't matter who that boy is. Could be Obama. Could be Reid, Pelosi, Weiner, or any of the whole, corrupt lot. That's all the liberal media cares is, 'Will this hurt our ability to hide his lies?'

They don't care if it wrecks the Constitution, or the economy, or the entire country and the lives of everyone dwelling in it. No, all they care about is, 'Will this hurt OUR pick?'

If a Liberal/Democrat politician/media figure wants to put their arms around you, or pat you on the back, all they're doing is looking for a good place to stick a knife.

Has anyone seen the 99%'ers self portraits?

They're pretty popular on Twitter as conservatives seem to be getting quite a kick out of these ridiculous sob stories on notebook paper.

Well, I'm starting my own collection. I think the person in the background will always resemble the one in this photo, though I'm open to suggestions on the particular sob story. Please feel free to contribute your ideas.

Yikes. The CC companies did

Submitted by amyshulk on Mon, 10/10/2011 - 4:01am.

Yikes. The CC companies did that to us too - almost perfect credit score, but they jacked the rate up anyway. I am terrible with numbers/math, but I thought that rate was predicated on the prime rate, which is effectively 0, right?

Anyway, there are a lot of us out here who can relate, so I'm not writing off this OWS movement.

If they ditch the union thugs and paid anarchists, and accept the reality that the root problem is gov't. they will become adults, and join the TP, but I'm not holding my breath.

What I'd like to know? Why don't they all just declare bankruptcy? That would wake up Wall Street but FAST!!!

The government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.
