Martin Bashir Attacks Herman Cain During Eulogy For Civil Rights Leader Fred Shuttlesworth

By Noel Sheppard | October 07, 2011 | 19:07

Noel Sheppard's picture

For the second day in a row, MSNBC's Martin Bashir used the death of one man to attack a completely unrelated conservative.

Having disgustingly besmirched Sarah Palin in the middle of his eulogy for Apple's Steve Jobs Thursday, Bashir on Friday went after Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain as he paid his respects to Reverend Fred Shuttlesworth (video follows with transcript and commentary):

MARTIN BASHIR: Perhaps the biggest surprise in the Republican race for the White House has been the surge of Herman Cain, whose new book, “This is Herman Cain: My Journey to the White House," has just been published. In the book, Mr. Cain says this about the civil rights movement. "It didn't have an impact. I just kept going to school, doing what I was supposed to do, and stayed out of trouble."

Compare that with the life of the Reverend Fred Shuttlesworth, who passed away this week at the age of 89. Until Wednesday, Mr. Shuttlesworth was the last surviving member of the big three. He's seen here sitting between Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the Reverend Ralph David Abernathy. They were the three founders at the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in the 1950s.

Mr. Shuttlesworth was a godly and devout man of faith who trained for the Baptist ministry, but also braved beatings, bombings, and fire hosings in order to advance the cause of equality. On Christmas Day itself in 1956, somebody placed fifteen sticks of dynamite outside the parsonage where he lived. The explosion destroyed his humble home, but he survived. A year later, in 1957, he and his wife took their daughters to enroll in an all-white school in Birmingham. But as they arrived, they were met with men carrying chains, brass knuckles, and baseball bats. His wife, Ruby, was stabbed in the head. He was beaten unconscious.

Mr. Shuttlesworth once said from the pulpit, “I'm answerable to God for he is the judge.” But as I read Herman Cain’s book, it's hard not to conclude that he finds himself answerable only to those Republicans who will soon start electing their nominee for the White House, and as such, he probably feels obliged to reassure them that he’s no angry black man fighting for the rights of minorities. He wants to be known as one who stayed out of trouble. But he would be wise to remember that without the likes of the late Fred Shuttlesworth, Herman Cain wouldn’t even be able to vote let alone get the chance to run for the presidency.

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

What is the matter with this man? Is it not possible for him to see anything as it is without perverting it into a vehicle to attack his political enemies?

In the past two days, a couple of historic figures in this nation passed away. Rather than use his television bully pulpit to properly eulogize them, Bashir besmirched both of their memories by adding political commentary totally unrelated to either of them.

Is this really the message MSNBC wants to be sending its audience: that everything now is about politics and advancing a liberal agenda? Even the deaths of a renowned inventor and a civil rights leader?

The more I see of this man Bashir, the more I'm starting to think that he is one of the most disgraceful people in the television news media today.

Given the competition out there, especially at the network he works for, that's saying something.

RACIST!

As I have said before and I will gladly say it again: To borrow and paraphrase a joke from Jeffrey Ross, "Martin Bashir looks like Eugene Levy and Keith Olbermann had a baby and then peed on it".

because Cain continued his schooling and chose not to protest he is to be condemmed by this insane and stupid bashir?? With bsnbc going down the gutter, one would think they would try and improve their jokers of hosts in prime time. Seems now, they all believe Cain isn't black enough and will bash him for that. Not all blacks protested in the 60's they had better things to do.

on Sesame Street that Bashir can beat the crap out of! It should look like a black Sarah Palin, Godly, and who is a border Patrol Agent that is killed by the Fast and Furious campaign waged by Obama and denied by Holder. Maybe then MSDNC will actually report that story!

Mr. Cain, Marty "the conservative" Basher, was a believer way before he was a presidential candidate and a target of your racist rants.

No. No! If it weren't for

Submitted by Immortal Fish on Fri, 10/07/2011 - 7:51pm.

No. No!

If it weren't for the Republicans twisting the arm of the sitting Southern President at the time, Herman Cain wouldn't be able to vote, let alone run for the office of Presidency.

Or, if people like the filibustering Robert Byrd had their way, Herman Cain wouldn't be able to vote, let alone run for the office of Presidency.

If someone named Abraham Lincoln didn't exist, Herman Cain wouldn't be able to vote, let alone run for the office of Presidency.

Today, if people like Martin Bashir had their way, Herman Cain wouldn't be able to vote, let alone run for the office of Presidency.

"The more I see of this man Bashir, the more I'm starting to think that he is one of the most disgraceful people in the television news media today."

It could be worse, Noel. You could be the reason why Martin wears a ring on his left hand.

Anytime some dumb-ass lib is confronted with the facts (everything you said is factually correct), they feel they need to denigrate your intellect to make themselves feel smarter. It is because their rationale is based on things that are so rediculous and they are so pissed off that the people of this country are fed up with their Lord and Savior Barack Obama.

Just picture this as Jer (or any other lib), watching the election returns next November when Obama and his dasterdly band of Socialist douchebaggers get their asses trounced:

I'm reeling in disbelief. ["reeling in"...get it? I'm killing myself with the fishing punnery.]

Anyway, on to more substantive points. I didn't denigrate Mr. Fish's intellect. I took issue with, in a light-hearted manner, his grasp of the particular facts alleged in his post as well as his subjective conclusions. And everything he said was NOT factually correct--most notably his initial assertion concerning LBJ--although much of his post was merely unsupported conjecture and opinion anyway.

My Lord and Savior has never been and never will be Barack Obama. He wasn't even my preference to be the Democratic nominee. Furthermore, I've been around far too long to get too stirred up over the most recent midterm Congressional elections, the results of which I had predicted months before November 2010.

Obama Files Complaint Against America with the United Nations

Submitted by Retired Geek on Fri, 10/07/2011 - 9:18pm.

Did You Know?

Barack Obama filed a 29-page complaint with the United Nations Human Rights Council against the United States in August 2010.

This is NOT only another Barack Obama first, this is the first time in the history of the United Nations that the United States has submitted a report to the United Nation’s Human Rights Council.

The report is based on about a dozen conferences held across the United States between January and April 2010 by a Presidential Commission that looks like the Who's Who of Radicalism in the United States.

You will NOT believe who managed and administrated the report.

Why can't this be brought to the attention of the American public? Oh yeah the American Media. they love these guys or they are already on their payroll. not only is the act despicable to go to an outside agency to criticize your own government but the cast of characters look like a combination of Stalinist Marxists and a junior league Al Qaeda.
If this doesn't send shivers up the spine of Americans who still think this Marxist anti semite is a moderate, God help them. how could any Jewish person even think about contributing 1 RED cent to this Communist in the white house. The Chicago style thug tactics of Daly combined with the Alinsky book on radicalism and the anti American, Anti israeli Radical Islamists on this page make the KKK of the past look tame in terms of White House access well except when the Dems were in.
Again Geek thanks for bringing this page to the readers at NB.

sick

Submitted by michiganruth on Fri, 10/07/2011 - 10:26pm.

last nite, also on MSNBC, Lawrence O'Donnell tried this same thing on Cain. blaming him for not "being part" of the civil rights movement.

when MSNBC is this scared, it means something. Herman Cain must be perceived as a threat to their Messiah. that's a good thing!

what they're missing is that Herman Cain WAS part of the civil rights movement just by doing what he was doing: going to college, raising a family, getting a job, being a productive citizen. not everybody needs to march: everybody does what they are able to do, and together we effect change.

but then again...they're not really "missing" anything. they know all that. they just want to destroy Cain and make sure they keep the black voters on the Democratic plantation.

Herman Cain exercised his civil rights by loving his country, respecting others, educating himself, working hard, becoming a productive member of society, and promoting business & creating jobs. Yeah, he gets my vote.

On the other hand, Martin Bashir appears to hate his country; constantly disrespects others, does nothing constructive for his money, and divides society by promoting race & class warfare. In short, he's just another pathetic MSNBC RACIST terd trying to pass himself off as a journalist.
