Former Congresswoman Smacks Down Bill Maher for Calling Fox's Megyn Kelly 'Not Bright' 'Blonde Twink'

By Noel Sheppard | September 24, 2011 | 10:34

Former Congresswoman Jane Harman called out Bill Maher Friday evening for saying Fox News's Megyn Kelly was a "blonde twink" who's "not bright."

Appearing on HBO's "Real Time," Harman responded by noting that Maher had just minutes before discussed with author Ron Suskind the sexist treatment of women in the Obama White House, and then said, "I want to point out that the last time I was on this show, there were lots of women on. This time, I'm it. I'm blonde. Hey" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Story Continues Below Ad ↓

BILL MAHER, HOST: Here’s the difference I think between Republicans and Democrats. At one point, the blonde twink who’s asking these questions.

JON AVLON, NEWSWEEK: That’s a technical term.

MAHER: I’m sorry, I meant Madame Curie. I don't know who that lady is on Fox, but she's not bright. She was talking about, you know, Obama’s big thing this week, the millionaire's tax. Obama, in the slow retreat that is the economic policy of the Obama administration - can't tax everybody. Can't tax people who makes $250,000. We’re down to just, okay, just the millionaires. That’s who, you know, thinking no one could object to this. And most Americans are for this. And this lady says, she’s posing to us she says, “66% of Americans actually think this is a good idea.” Whoo-hoo.

FORMER CONGRESSWOMAN JANE HARMAN (D-CALIFORNIA): Wait a minute. About the blonde female. We just had Ron Suskind on, didn't we, and he was talking about, or his book is about the treatment of women in the White House. I want to point out that the last time I was on this show…

MAHER: It’s not because she’s a woman. It’s because she’s dumb.

HARMAN: …there were lots of women on. This time, I'm it. I'm blonde. Hey!

He really is an idiot, isn't he?

First, he completely forgot that his previous guest just released a book about the sexist treatment of women in the Obama White House and that he actually discussed this issue with him.

Next, he went after the intellectual capacity of Megyn Kelly, a former attorney that is considered one of the most intelligent people on Fox News. As anyone familiar with Kelly's work knows, Maher wouldn't last 60 seconds in a debate on any subject with her.

But right-thinking observers know Maher's sexism and misogyny, especially for conservative women, knows no bounds.

Brava to Harman for calling him on it. If only more left of center women would.

He didn't forget that Susskind was just on.  He was done with that segment.

New segment, new attitude.

Megyn Kelly has more intelligence, class, style, elegance, common sense, and attractiveness in one of her burps than Donkeyface has ever had in his whole pathetic life.............

The way this fool degrades women is astonishing - he must have had a real doozy of a mother, and/or he's as queer as the Jack of Hearts (with a serious anti-women streak), or he's hung like a Pez dispenser.............

Submitted by Bourbeau on Sat, 09/24/2011 - 11:13am.

Let's see how bright you are: you pick the topic, invite Megyn Kelly on, and you debate her for fifteen minutes. When it's over, call her a dumb blonde twink to her face. Come on Maher; be a man; don't hide behind your desk spewing your nonsense. Stand up, do the right thing, and take Megyn on face to face. Oh, and have your producers ready w/some shovels; it'll be one of the few shovel ready projects to get started on time.

Slow retreat?

Submitted by BTW Biological ... on Sat, 09/24/2011 - 11:43am.

So actually he says Obama really wanted to increase taxes on people $250,000 and up, but he had to pull back(retreat) on that idea. So now increasing taxes on $1,000,000 is what they are left with. Kelly says that 66% of the public are for that and that is good thing; yet Maher thinks that more people should be for it.

I dont know how she is dumb if she thinks it is good that 66% of Americans are for something that Obama will do? Isn't that a matter of subjective opinion. If it was 95% and she said that was good, would she be genius?

Personally, I don't like

Submitted by redfish on Sat, 09/24/2011 - 1:35pm.

Personally, I don't like Megyn Kelly that much in general, her opinion on Chaz Bono aside. I don't agree with a lot of what she says, don't think everything she says is smart, and she does a lot of things that I groan at (like how she referred to herself as "preggers", I hate that), but at least she's smart enough in the way that she can cross-examine others and defend her own point of view, and keep her opponents on her toes -- that owes to her degree in law. Even smart people can be dumb about certain things ; just look at Paul Krugman.

So even though I have plenty to critique about her, it would never cross my mind to call her a "blonde twink". I think the article here is right in suggesting Maher is pretty sexist when he feels he can get away with it; and the media lets him get away with it because he's attacking conservatives.

He is the product of the left loony fringe he took up with in Hollywood, he practically lives at the Playboy mansion and looks at all women as sex toys. Men like him are a dime a dozen, shallow and incapable of looking at a female as anything other than an inferior and avoid comitted relationships. They often are addicted to having sex with hundreds of women during their lives while at the same time holding them in contempt, Maher fits that description to a tee. "blonde twink" who's "not bright." We can add little Katie Couric to the list as well.

I actually canceled HBO

Submitted by conard3 on Sun, 09/25/2011 - 12:28pm.

I actually canceled HBO because of Maher. I will resubscribe in the spring when Game of Thrones comes back... and then promptly cancel again when it's done.

Game of Thrones is most

Submitted by amyshulk on Sun, 09/25/2011 - 1:24pm.

Game of Thrones is most excellent!!! I bought the books:

George R. R. Martin's A Game of Thrones 4-Book Boxed Set: A Game of Thrones, A Clash of Kings, A Storm of Swords, and A Feast for Crows (A Song of Ice and Fire) [Print] [Mass Market Paperback]

And just finished them - they average 1000 pages each!!!

The government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.

Is a good old fashioned A$$ kicking. That's all it would take for this very meek man.

Maher and HBO

Submitted by truckinmann on Mon, 09/26/2011 - 8:34am.

Anyone who has HBO as part of their viewing package for there television is supporting this radical communist movement. I got rid of HBO years ago and have never regretted doing so. I can see whatever movies I want somewhere else. ( I don't have any of the "movie" type channels, as they are all full of communist propaganda) I have never seen a Maher show, and never will. I have seen clips of what he says and there is no doubt the man hates America and the people in it, as he grows rich criticizing other Americans for trying to get rich like himself. People, don't support these anti American businesses like HBO, or any channel that espouses the same kind of leftist propaganda.

Evolution: A theory formulated for people that don't want to be held accountable for their actions.
