Maher Tells Leno That Bush, Palin, Perry and Bachmann Are Idiots - But He Doesn't Know Iowa Has Caucuses

By Noel Sheppard | September 12, 2011 | 00:55

Within seconds of his introduction on Friday's "Tonight Show," Bill Maher attacked leading Republicans.

In a truly delicious example of instant karma, moments after calling Dan Quayle, George W. Bush, Sarah Palin, Rick Perry, and Michele Bachmann idiots, the pompous, more arrogant than most Maher spoke of how important the "Iowa primary" is (video follows with commentary):

After some brief introductory chitchat, Leno went right to last week’s Republican presidential debate.

“Talk about a who’s who of who’s nuts,” Maher quipped.

“You think, you know, over the years that they’ve reached a bottom. Like somebody like Dan Quayle would have been the stupidest person ever, and then a Mr. George Bush steps up to the plate, and then you think that can’t get any worse, and a Miss [sic] Sarah Palin emerges, and then a Michele Bach [sic], and there’s Rick Perry - this is a man who will not be out-hillbillied.”

This happened within the first minute of his introduction and continued throughout much of the segment before a commercial break.

In this midst of all this Republicans are the dumbest people on the face of the planet talk came this gem: “You know, of course, everybody up on that stage is vying basically to win the Iowa primary.”

Hey Bill: Iowa has caucuses not primaries. They've been the first step in the presidential nomination process since 1972 when you were sixteen.

As such, since he's been old enough to vote, the Iowa caucuses have been quite important to our democratic process.

But Maher - who is regularly invited on television programs as if a political expert calling everyone with an "R" next to his or her name an idiot - doesn't know a basic tenet of presidential campaigns.

Maybe if he stopped throwing stones rather than getting stoned he wouldn't be such a dunce.

Thats one of the 17 reasons why I dont watch him anymore-he puts on ALL the libs, within a few months basis, the same "celebrities" and "pundits" and they spew their left winged rants, and he feeds them set-up lines and follows up on their "punch" lines! Once his old Tonight Show ended, I ended it with him, about 10 years too long-I know, Im a masochist, lol!

Billy boy, you really need to stop smoking that weed, son. It makes you so stupid!

But you just keep up the good work though, Bill. You are showing the rest of the country just how off base and out of touch with reality you and the rest of the liberals really are. Too funny.

I think the way the primaries

Submitted by Dan The Man 2 on Mon, 09/12/2011 - 5:13am.

I think the way the primaries are held is ridiculous. There should be one day of voting, or perhaps a week, where the candidates are put up for a vote all over the USA. That way we can winnow the candidates out pretty quick and get a front runner or a couple of them. The way it is now means I have no choice until months after the first choices. And the states that choose are small potatoes.

I agree, by the time my state primaries the candidate has already been decided.

I also think knowing Elvis trivia is less important than knowing we have 50 states, not 57.

Submitted by Radical1979 on Mon, 09/12/2011 - 8:46am.

Just sayin', I don't think it's as important to get his birthday right as it is to know the president won't be visiting all 57 states, Although maybe Obama was planning on rolling Cuba, Venezuela and some other dictatorships into the U.S. Because he seems to be emulating Castro and Chavez...

Maher doesn't know what "hillibilly" means either. It's pretty straight forward, and Texas isn't in the equation.

I for one have now removed

Submitted by Captain Repus on Mon, 09/12/2011 - 8:04am.

I for one have now removed Leno's show from my TIVO recording schedule, just as I did Letterman's show after his first slime attack on the Palins. Watching this supposed 'comedian' giggle and cheer-lead Maher's rant was disgraceful.

As for Maher, I still look forward to the day when he is busted in the wee hours of the morning in the back seat of his car covered in cocaine dust and naked with a pretty little 11 year old little boy.

Imagine a conservative stand-up comedian . . .

Submitted by Galvanic on Mon, 09/12/2011 - 11:10am.

. . . appearing on late night TV and defending Tea Partiers and Republicans. Think they'd be asked back? Almost certainly a career ender for any venue save Fox News.

But Leno and Letterman love to have liberal politicians and left-wing entertainers on to talk politics, and this is why I very rarely (twice a year?) watch them anymore. I think Letterman has had O'Reilly one once or twice.

There are plenty of cable shows for this kind of stuff, but if I want to be entertained, I don't want political stuff.

Perhaps they book these folks in order to appeal to the Jon Stewart/Stephen Colbert crowd.
