Robert Redford on Obama: 'Like So Many Others I'm Beginning to Wonder Just Where the Man Stands'

By Noel Sheppard | September 03, 2011 | 10:31

Barack Obama's Hope and Change ether appears to be wearing off on Robert Redford.

On Friday evening, the Oscar-winning actor and environmental activist published a rather scathing piece at the Huffington Post about the man Hollywood blindly put all its faith behind in 2008:

One reason I supported President Obama is because he said we must protect clean air, water and lands. But what good is it to say the right thing unless you act on it?  Since early August, three administration decisions -- on Arctic drilling, the Keystone XL pipeline and the ozone that causes smog -- have all favored dirty industry over public health and a clean environment. Like so many others, I'm beginning to wonder just where the man stands.

After listing his grievances with recent Obama environmental decisions, Redford concluded:

I have to believe that President Obama still knows it's important to protect clean air, water and lands. Like so many, I'm waiting for him to stand up for all that. I'm waiting for him to stand up for our future. But we can't wait forever.

In reality, what Americans from all walks of life are learning - even Hollywoodans! - is the man they fell in love with despite his record or lack thereof really has no core beliefs or deeply-held positions.

He is an illusion masterfully crafted by himself, his handlers, and his sychophant supporters in the press.

What Redford and "so many others" are beginning to realize is that when you strip back the veneer, there's nothing but cheap particleboard held together with Elmer's Glue.

Nevertheless, they'll all happily support him next November despite his deficiencies and their disappointment.

Makes you wonder whose hypocrisy is worse - his or theirs.

Another deluded Liberal

Submitted by H_Tuttle on Sat, 09/03/2011 - 10:41am.

Like all the others Obamamaniacs, he clearly created a fantasy Obama inside his own head and now is tired of waiting and waiting and waiting for the real Obama to magically become the one he fantasized.

Good Morning, Robert!

Welcome BACK to reality!

Not Back To Reality.

Submitted by Avitar on Sat, 09/03/2011 - 12:48pm.

To get Robert Redford to reality would be a very long strange journey indeed.
Robert Redford lives in that part of the country where the chief environmental danger is near fatal levels of SMUG! George Clooney and Darrel Hanna would live there too but anywhere they are the smug levels rise.

I have great faith in Hollywood, sadly including Redford, whom I kind of like, reservedly, if his envirowacko nuttiness weren't so inane, to keep head firmly shoved up their (Dem mascot]. It's why they chose the obamanation, they saw brown.

and the behavior you find so loathsome in Redford

Submitted by lrgon on Sun, 09/04/2011 - 11:46am.

is different from the behavior of those who "have created a fantasy" around Bush or their latest "fantasy" - Rick Perry?

Obama likes war and empire - so do Bush and Perry

Obama likes big government - so do Bush and Perry

Obama spends and spends - Bush spent trillions and put us trillions in the hole. That is not a fantasy but a reality that Bushites cannot get a grip on and refuse to face it- Bush was a big spending liberal!!!!

Rick Perry and the record >
http://www.rlc.org/2011/08/12/texas-rlc-sends-out-warning-on-rick-perry/

As Perry hits the campaign trail, it is clear that jobs and the Texas economy will be his calling card. “But,” the Austin American-Statesman recently asked, “How much credit can he take for the state’s economy?”

The paper noted that almost half of the state’s job growth in the last two years was in the education, healthcare, and government sectors that “will now take a hit as federal stimulus money [the $6.4 billion Perry received for the state] runs out and the legislature’s eight-percent cut in state spending translates into thousands of layoffs among state workers and teachers in the coming weeks.”

The Statesman continued, “[James] Galbraith [a professor at the Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs] said other economic factors, not Perry, are driving the Texas economy.” Those factors include geology and the price of oil. Galbraith also told the Statesman that Texas has always had a “reputation as a low-tax, low-service state” and that Perry “did not inherit a high-tax, high-service state and transform it.”

Submitted by The Vet on Sun, 09/04/2011 - 12:50pm.

We must not disturb the loon. They are quite stupid and any little noise will cause them to go off the nest and abandon the eggs. Soon, the loon will be heading off for the winter. Questions? Yes, you ----

one of the boys and girls: Where do loons go during the winter?

We now know that Web loons winter off in Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico Coast websites. This is known from loons tracked by internet transmitters and observation of banded loons.

The President haz a sad. (lol I love the picture choice.)

Seriously though, that this President isn't "liberal enough" for some of these activist groups is actually alarming. So of course they're going to have choice words for him to discredit him.

But I could have told Mr. Redford two and half years ago that all he was going to get is child in a man's suit. He was a blank slate that everyone scribbled their hopes on, popped into a bottle and tossed out into the sea and then hoped granted their every wish. Oh to be a liberal that I could deny reality on a daily basis.

Redford -- Another disillusioned Leftist

Submitted by Galvanic on Sat, 09/03/2011 - 10:52am.

LBJ, January 1968: "My God, we've lost Walter Cronkite."

"Obama, August 2011: "My God, we've lost Robert Redford."

As we've discussed on this site since Obama's Presidential candidacy gained steam in 2008, his millions of supporters and enthusiasts never really understood where he stood, nor do they now.  They merely projected on to him the qualities and character of their ideal candidate, and he became everything to everybody.

Two and a half years after his inauguration, it's apparent to even his so-called "base" that he's not only far short of their expectations, but far short of being an effective President.

"really has no core beliefs or deeply-held positions"

Submitted by Newsbubba on Sat, 09/03/2011 - 10:52am.

If only that were the case!!!!

He is a devoted radical who believes in communist rule by the liberal elite as the way to "fundamentally transform this country."

There is nothing and no one that He won't destroy to reach that goal, including Robert Redford and all of Hollywood.

He is focused on getting reelected so He has to dump some of His most obvious and radical positions to once again dupe 51% of the morons in this country.

Watch what will happen from the day Bambi loses the election until the new president is sworn in.  The decrees will be flying out of the White House to do everything possible to damage what is left of the economy.  If Congress doesn't grow a pair and just stop Him, they will be as guilty as He is.

This is the greatest assault on freedom since Hitler, Mao, Stalin, and Castro won their way.

Never doubt it.  Obama has core beliefs.  They're just "unbelievable" to Americans, but they better get their heads around the idea, and soon or  He will destroy us.

"All walks of life" infers the inclusion of conservatives and liberals in the same pot. But if that were the case, we would not have a Tea Party movement. A better way of stating the above would be:

The Worse Thing Is That Smug Is Communicable

Submitted by Avitar on Sat, 09/03/2011 - 1:54pm.

Smug is communicable, it is easy to catch it from comparing yourself to really inferior people like Robert Redford or Barack Obama.

The Hollywood smug class comes along out of the woods every few years looking as confused as a kitten confronting a mirror for the first time. They are so lost and it so easy to feel superior but our job is not to be better than them. Our job is to be able to clean up after them. The filth dimwits certainly can't clean up after themselves.

Remember that just being able to do a better job than Obama is not enough.

I am having trouble believing his buyer's remorse con game.

Submitted by drsamherman on Sat, 09/03/2011 - 1:56pm.

If Obama is not re-elected, Redford will be one among the stampede of leftists trying to run away as fast as they can. I don't buy this false buyer's remorse, because it is the same tactic I see from cornered narcissists tying desperately to deflect blame for some horrific situation they created. Redford and the other Hollyweirdos knew exactly what they were buying when they signed on the dotted line and supported Chairman Zero. They bought an incompetent, inexperienced and narcissistic junior Senator from Illinois who they thought they could use to pass their agenda. Getting both houses of congress was essentially the icing on the cake, but of course the liberals forgot there were among their numbers a certain core of less liberal colleagues unwilling to be their enablers for such a radical agenda. When the agenda fell apart with the loss of congress in the 2010 elections, and O-bat-ears compromising somewhat on tax and national security issues, the liberals went into denial overdrive.

Redford is just another actor looking to be free from blame when further damage occurs. Problem is, he will not be able to wash off the stench from this administration any time soon.

It is so easy for a multi millionaire clown to stand behind policies that would, in fact, produce extreme hardships on those of us who survive week to week. Robert Redford: "One reason I supported President Obama

Submitted by Rush Fan on Sat, 09/03/2011 - 5:31pm.

is because he said we must protect clean air, water and lands." WRONG! As South Carolina Republican Joe Wilson said to President Obama You LIE.

The only reason Leftist liar Redford, as well as Tom Hanks and the rest of the Hollywood Left, really needed to vote for Barack Obama is the (D) after Obama's name. As expected from a Lefty, Redford has been supporting Democrats since the Earth was formed.

NEWSMEAT records show that since 1980, Redford had contributed almost exclusively to Democrat candidates. His contributions to the Leftist Directors Guild of America Pac, which then went to federal candidates, was distributed in 2008 as follows: 74% to Democrats, 26% to Republicans.

As Noel indicates, if you read the comments accompanying Redford's piece at the Puffington Post, the Leftist posters are clearly disappointed and disillusioned in Obama the Messiah. And yes, they will vote for him again (in some instances more than once) because he has a (D) after his name.

Hollywood views on politics.....

Submitted by thescoots on Sun, 09/04/2011 - 5:55pm.

is juvenile, oversimplistic and scripted....Regardless of individual politcians and their positions: Republicans = bad....Democrats = good. You can pick the politician and they back the democrat every time...They would tell you the virtues of Al Franken and the vices of Bobby Jindal...in spite of the obvious, for example. Maxine Waters makes sense to them...but Chris Christie is draconian. Such is the Hollywood mentality...which is why I do not support their industry with one red cent. Why should I? They will simply take that money, and apart from their lavish lifestyle...give it to liberal causes and politicians to be used against me and all conservatives. Let liberals support other liberals...I won't feed them.
