Bernie Goldberg: I Wish NYT Was Concerned With Religion and Politics When Obama Was in Wright's Church

As NewsBusters reported last week, New York Times outgoing executive editor Bill Keller believes presidential candidates should be questioned about their religious beliefs.

On Monday's "The O'Reilly Factor," media critic Bernie Goldberg marvelously said, "I wish that he and the New York Times was as concerned about religion and politics during the last campaign when it pertained to Barack Obama, who sat in a church with a hateful minister for 20 years" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

Bill Keller, I wish that he and the New York Times was as concerned about religion and politics during the last campaign when it pertained to Barack Obama, who sat in a church with a hateful minister for 20 years. So I'm not sure if Bill Keller is the right person to preach to us about the importance of journalists asking about religion.

Indeed. As NewsBusters reported last Friday, Keller received some pushback concerning this very issue.

His response?

"We were late to Rev. Wright in '08, but we got there, and did it well."

He probably believes that.

Libs Have an Answer for Everything When it Fits their Agenda!

Keller: "We were late to Rev. Wright in '08, but we got there, and did it well."

How stupid do they think we are? Liberals yap so much about anything, everything they disagree with that they convince themselves, only themselves that what they are saying is factual and real. They did not bring into question the associations religious/political of their Messiah -- Obama had to get elected no matter what! Now, they are concerned about the religion of the candidates who are running agaisnt him? Liberals are a "piece of work" aren't they?

"We were late to Rev. Wright in '08......"

Submitted by Kingfish17 on Tue, 08/30/2011 - 2:04pm.

Bill Keller, NYT, said:  "We were late to Rev. Wright in '08, but we got there, and did it well."  Keller actually should credit the NYT with doing the Reverend Wright story perfectly, as it suited the left and those who choose to burry their heads in the sand and vote for an unknown "transformational" entity.  They will continue along their "getting the story perfect" agenda and paint Gov. Perry as a kook and a nut-head who believes in the literal interpretation of every single passage of the Old Testament.

Keller got there right after

Submitted by Hunter12 on Tue, 08/30/2011 - 7:51pm.

Keller got there right after the back wheels of the Obama bus ran over Wright. Good thing it wasn't that new armor-plated Canadian bus, or he'd have been squished flat.

"No religious test"

Or so says the Constitution. But if we have to, let's just do it when it's convenient.

The NYT is worse than Pravda ever was.

NYT's Keller. Right. That would have damaged the Democrats.

Submitted by Gary Hall on Tue, 08/30/2011 - 2:25pm.

NYT's Keller - Late to the game? But you covered it? Covered what?

If there was anything to cover here during the 2008 Democratic primary season, it was that the Rev. Wright was charging the Clinton's w/ racism.

Rev. Wright attacked the Clinton's - both of them - on the basis of how President Clinton had treated the black community and how he presumed Hillary Clinton would treat the black community if she was elected president.

  • Rev. Wright's hatred of Bill & Hillary - The video

Here's the transcript:

  • Rev. Wright: Hillary is married to Bill and Bill have been good to us? No, he ain't (pumping his hip to and fro), Bill did us just like he did Monica Lewinsky!
  • Congregation: (jumping up and down and cheering)
  • Rev. Wright: He was riding dirty!

The clip shows Reverend Wright, ranting in hatred, thrusting his pelvis to and fro, suggesting that Hillary would be as Bill Clinton had; he'd , f---ed the black community "just as he did Monica Lewinski." Wright is charging the presidential candidate Senator Hillary Clinton will treat them the same way.

How in the world could Keller's NYT's, and the MSM, not put the obvious questions to Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and to Rev. Wright at the time?

Oh  right.  That would have caused just a wee bit of controversy for the Democratic party - perhaps split the Democratic Convention down the middle.

Things would have turned out differently - if only Keller was an ethical journalist.

Needless to say, had such occurred between a leading Republican candidate and his pastor -- well, we all know how the kind of rabid attention the MSM would have given it.

Machiavellian

Submitted by Scottyb4292 on Tue, 08/30/2011 - 4:32pm.

Liberals are so Machiavellian, so steeped in Machiavellianism, I wonder if they are even aware of themselves. They seem to actually believe that because Obama's worldview is liberal and anti-American, everything regarding his religion is only just window dressing.

Doesn't anyone understand how

Submitted by Hunter12 on Tue, 08/30/2011 - 7:32pm.

Doesn't anyone understand how this president's approval rating can still be as high as it is, in light of all the acts of commission and omission he's done to destroy the economy and the country? Nothing bad is ever reported. Here's something simple. Put "Obama separate planes" into google and do a search. Then do the same search with "NBC News" or any of the big three, the NYT, WaPo, etc. appended. The hits you'll get there are reader comments, not news stories. The economy is in the toilet and Michelle can't wait 4 hours to fly on Air Force One with her husband and that doesn't lead the economic news of the evening. Michelle, I like carrot cake. Laura Bush never took separate planes to the same destination. Google it, no hits and yoy know it would have screamed from page one and lead for weeks. I like people comparing Bush's trip to Texas with lavish stays in exotic locations, with beachfront and over-flying commercial routes. Anyone care to hazard a comparison of the cost of the official vacation days between the last two president's? I bet one could live well on the difference in cost for the latter's to the former's, even if Obama's only taken a third of Bush's total. Throw in the First Ladies' trip costs and I could go to Martha's Vineyard every year as well.
Now the media is going to try to tear down Perry on his church attendance. One question, where is the devout Christian Obama going to church at? We used to get weekly pictures of Clinton and Bush entering or leaving their church. With the fawning blanket thrown around PBO by the media, where are the church pictures of him and his attending services? We get stories about attending Easter service or Christmas, but nothing weekly.

bring it on...

Submitted by michiganruth on Tue, 08/30/2011 - 9:40pm.

...in the immortal words of George W. Bush. you want a discussion about the candidates' religion, Lefties? ok. then let's bring back Rev. Wright. let's ask Obama what it was about that man that convinced him to convert to Christianity. let's ask him about the Black Liberation Theology that Wright preaches. and let's ask him what he REALLY thinks about the Jews.

then let's delve into Obama's upbringing as (at least partially) a Muslim, definitely with a Muslim father, who probably actually worshiped Marx more than he did Allah.

is that all going to be fair game? then I'm more than ready to talk about Mitt's Mormonism, or Perry's Christianty (whatever it is--I still haven't figured out why it is so bad--you'd think he was a snake handler!)
