Tucker Carlson Calls Chris Matthews a Moron for Likening Rick Perry to Segregationist Bull Connor

By Noel Sheppard | August 17, 2011 | 18:38

As NewsBusters previously reported, Chris Matthews on Tuesday likened Texas governor Rick Perry to segregationist Bull Connor.

On Fox's "America's Newsroom" Wednesday, Daily Caller editor Tucker Carlson took exception with this (video follows with transcript and commentary):

MARTHA MACCALLUM, HOST: You know, what do you make of, you know, sort of the heat that Rick Perry got for talking about Ben Bernanke that way?

TUCKER CARLSON, DAILY CALLER: Well, it's coming from a couple of different places. It's coming from the Left of course which has also been trying to paint Rick Perry as a racist. Some moron on another cable channel compared him to Bull Connor yesterday, etc., etc. That's predictable.

That predictable "moron" would be Matthews:

Readers are reminded that last month, Carlson said, "Very few people have done more to divide the country than Chris Matthews."

As such, this was just the latest example of the "Hardball" host proving the point.

Here are some more since Carlson made this observation:

  • Chris Matthews: News Organizations Are 'Going to Spend Every Nickel They Have' Investigating Rick Perry
  • Chris Matthews Thrilled His Regulars Think Perry's Easier for Obama to Attack Than Romney
  • Chris Matthews: 'Paul Ryan Stuck His Neck Out and [Obama] Punched His Head Off' Matthews'
  • Shameless Smear: Rush Wants to End Integration of Schools and Military
  • Chris Matthews: Southern 'Secessionists' Want to 'Kill' Obama...'Politically'
  • Chris Matthews: 'Thug' Republicans Are 'Muggers' Who 'Assault' Obama
  • Matthews Mars Giffords' Return By Connecting Tea Party and 'Violent Level of the Right-Wing'
  • Unhinged Chris Matthews Smears Tea Party Republicans as Baby-Kidnapping 'Terrorists' for Debt Deal
  • Chris Matthews Lies About Ronald Reagan as Way to Smear 'Terrorist' Republicans

Add it up, and in the past 30 days, Matthews has made no less than eleven highly divisive comments on the air.

Think Carlson has a point?

→ Why is it?

Submitted by Cool Arrow on Wed, 08/17/2011 - 6:45pm.

Why is it that Democrats can't help themselves in their efforts to compare Republicans to the most vile Democrats ever minted?

It's like when Nancy Pelosi got all teary-eyed about the '70s when A Democrat killed Harvey Milk.

Tucker Carlson is snarky, but

Submitted by amyshulk on Thu, 08/18/2011 - 4:33am.

Tucker Carlson is snarky, but he makes good points on occasion. This is one of those occasions

Funny, I could swear the opposition to Beck was that he would make assumptions based on what *he* saw and how it fit with history {conspiracy theories in their words} yet once again, it was just projection/softening us up for when THEY did this bs. Which is NOT the same thing IMO. Beck was clear it was how he saw it, and woulld LOVE to be wrong, whereas Matthews and his ilk are convinced they are right and are are gleefully smearing in service to Pres. Obama!

The government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.

Hmmm what's better a smarmy conservative or a smarmy

Submitted by gmaniac1 on Thu, 08/18/2011 - 5:16am.

liberal? I'll take a smarmy conservative because they are normally factual but their delivery can be a little snotty, sometimes towards other conservatives.

Carslon makes a good point and the most racist people in US history have been Democrats, and not just southern ones. Look at what the liberal whites did in New York, Boston, Philly, Chicago, etc. in the 60's and 70's protests. Now they go overboard in trying to act like the blacks' saviors. Liberal white people are such an embarrassment acting like they can "get down" and "rap." What jokes!

Prissy Chrissy knows that nobody watches him so he needs some schtick to get attention. His insane comments about conservatives is that schtick and it is working for him. If not for the postings on NewsBusters, Breitbart, etc., who would know what that little man says? Nobody.

One big difference

Submitted by djm159 on Thu, 08/18/2011 - 10:44am.

The one huge difference between the Bull Connor and Rick Perry is that Bull Connor was a democrat and Rick Perry is a Republican.
