Chris Matthews Thrilled His Regulars Think Perry's Easier for Obama to Attack Than Romney

By Noel Sheppard | August 14, 2011 | 13:13

Last month Tucker Carlson said, "Very few people have done more to divide the country than Chris Matthews."

Once again proving the point, Matthews on the syndicated program bearing his name this weekend expressed great joy that his regulars almost unanimously agreed that Texas governor Rick Perry will be easier for the Obama campaign to attack than former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney - "This is one of the great moments in this program's history" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

HOWARD FINEMAN, HUFFINGTON POST: However, there’s more to the Rick Perry story. We’re only beginning the Rick Perry story.

CHRIS MATTHEWS, HOST: Well, I want to know what he’s like.

FINEMAN: It’s all in theory right now.

MATTHEWS: Well, here’s what the White House, I wanted to know what the White House thinks about his opportunity, the opportunity to go after him. We asked the Matthews Meter the most opportune question of the week, twelve of regulars including Howard, about Rick Perry versus Mitt Romney, the two hottest candidates right now.

Which one of those will be easier for the Obama campaign to go negative against? Who’s the fattest target? This is one of the great moments in this program's history because 11-1, one of the ones I really like, a knockout punch says Perry is a fatter target than Mitt Romney.

Imagine that.

"One of the great moments in this program's history" is his regulars almost unanimously agreeing that one Republican candidate for president will be easier for the current White House resident to attack than another.

And this is what passes for journalism on a program syndicated on NBC stations around the country.

I realize I ask this question quite frequently, but do Comcast and General Electric really condone this kind of blatant bias that could be considered offensive by almost half the nation?

Submitted by killa37 on Sun, 08/14/2011 - 1:25pm.

Well, BowTie Tucker actually got it wrong, because he should have said Barry Soetoro Barack Hussein Obama instead of the Leghumper in that statement..................but, beyond that, Matthews was correct about one thing - ALL the Obama REGIME has to go on in their re-election plan is to 'go negative' on WHOEVER is running against them................because they've got nothing POSITIVE to talk about or demonstrate that they have done!!!!

PS......as I've said before, this drunk little loudmouth sure seems to enjoy throwing those 'tough guy' words and phrases around lately.............

Romney is NO McCain.

There are things I don't love about Bachman, Perry, Pawlenty, Rudi, Paul, Cain, Romney and Huntsman but all are better than what we have.

My personal favorites in order would be:

Rudi
Pawlenty
Romney
Bachman
Huntsman
Cain
Paul

We need to work hard to win with the most competent candidate and if our personal selection isn't nominated we need to work hard for whoever wins the nomination.

Save the criticism for Obama.

once his approval gets below 38% then use that value as a ceiling...if Obama cannot push above it, he will plunge to 23%. the Dow will show the way, if it sells down, so will obama approval.

I'd expect a new low by month end, 9500 area then a rally into October and November and from there, well kiss the baby good bye.

Guess the "speech" in AZ. is long gone. As the previous post, all the libs can do is bad-mouth. They have a zero agenda to run on. It will keep Tingles and the the rest of the media busy looking up back-ground checks, taking all remarks of conservatives out of context, and do their usual lying. This will be a dirty campaign from the get go and only hope, conservatives stick to the issues and ignore these fools from the WH to the media.

Don't knnow much about Perry but from what I know I fear he has got some real hurdles to overcome:

1. TOOOOO much religion. I am religous but I don't care for a politician who promotes his religion;
2. I loved W but the country didn't. Another conservative from Texas IS NOT going to make them forget W;
3. His record isn't that good;
4. He was a democrat

I won't criticze him because I would vote from him over Obama but there is a good chance republicans can beat Obama with Bachman, Perry, Pawlenty, Rudi, Romney, Huntsman and unlike progressives we have an obligation to nominate the most competent best person for the job who will try to heal the country and fix the Country's problems. Perry isn't my first choice to do that.

Submitted by jkwtrading on Sun, 08/14/2011 - 5:01pm.

Matthews would've made a great commander at the the battle of the charge of the light brigade. a few thousand Brit cavalry charged a many thousand Russians , cannon fortified and got slaughtered.

The Brits rode two miles uncontested and the Russians sat back until they were within a few hundred yards and slaughtered them.

Matthews , keep it up please maybe with luck the Democrats WILL put you in charge.

the Dow will sell down and the D's will get slaughtered in 2012.

The Nobel Six Hundred

Submitted by Galvanic on Mon, 08/15/2011 - 10:18am.

Actually, the Light Brigade consisted of 600 British light dragoons, hussars, and lancers, and they charged into a valley lined on both sides and the end by dozens of Russian cannon supported by infantry. The Brigade was fire upon all the way down the valley, and when it breached the defenses at the end, it was counterattacked by hundreds of Russian cavalry. The Brigade withdrew down the valley, where it again was shot at from both sides. In the end, the Brigade lost about 180 killed, hundreds wounded, and most of their horses dead, and was no longer a fighting force for the remainder of the Crimean War.

But the historical analogy may have implications for both major parties.

A charge was ordered by Lord Raglan (CinC of British forces in the Crimea), but through miscommunication due in no small part to the different vantage points (Raglan on a hill could see enemy activity that the Light Brigade below could not), Lord Cardigan led the Brigade down the wrong valley to its fate.

Both major parties suffer a similar problem: The elites at the top are woefully out of touch with mainstream America. The recent poll showing that 75% of the public thinks the nation is going in the wrong direction and 80% of voters want a balanced budget amendment, is a clear indication that the public wants a radical change in course.

The DNC and the MSM echo must defend the status quo at this point, because the President lacks the leadership quality to lead his party, led along the country. The DNC doesn't seem to appreciate how angry the public is. They will try to convince voters that 2012 is about the future, because the present is their mess.

But the RNC must also capture the sentiment of the Tea Party, and frankly, the Tea Party scares them because they can't control it. Beating up on Obama won't be enough; the GOP needs to select a candidate whom the voters feel can lead.

Should the GOP pick another Dole or McCain, we're likely to see 4 more years of Obama.

To finish on the Light Brigade analogy, the Charge was celebrated in England for its gallantry; the public was unaware that the charge served no military purpose. DNC Chair Wasserman-Schultz is telling interviewers that Obama's number look great, even though the DNC knows the truth. Will she and Obama lead the campaign down the wrong valley? I hope so. Wouldn't it be ironic if Obama lost and blamed his defeat on George Bush?

Submitted by gruyere cheese on Sun, 08/14/2011 - 6:05pm.

Liberals are in the tank for Obama even if this country is turning into a third world country! He already has their votes. It is the independants they have to worry about if they and their messiah want to hold on to the White House. The liberal media and their talking air heads have already insulted every one and anyone who is not on their side, particularly the Tea Party and Conservatives. They are simply to stupid to realize that people (voters) are maybe, just maybe getting tired of their school yard bullying tactics which they excercise 24/7 in their useless cable channel shows.

Now this latest from Chris Tingle and his mancrush on Obama will open a whole can of worms for those other idiots on this network. Now watch Special Ed, Madcow, and Racist Al jump on this with both feet, ramping up their critical attacks on Perry starting on monday. That is if Racist Al can shut up about the Bush Tax Cuts, he still tries to ride that dead horse everyday! What a fool.

Matthew's = a reverse childs game.!!

Submitted by American Man on Mon, 08/15/2011 - 5:34pm.

I am a conservative , but I like watching Matthew's show. He is a squirrel , because he beats around the bushes at a clever pace, setting up, staging all the spin, with the opposite intentions. He'll have on a group debate about who will be the candidate to beat in the GOP and his group always agrees with a candidate that Obama can verbally beat, because the candidate is a good ole boy , civility, courteous , a woos.
He never covers Michelle Bachman who would verbally haunt Obama in a debate, but Matthew will always point to Romney as the man to beat
Also Palin was really intimidating to them, she really was a threat , because they made rude fun of her , something bad, just showed such fear, they needed to get rid of her fast.
So I figure he and the Obama groupies all think Romney is a push over , easy win, and because they avoid even talking about Bachman or Paul, that they don't want to shed any light on them.
What Matthew's show speaks of so phony, so pre rehearsed , that you know they are state media puppets.
