Newsweek Puts Picture of Michele Bachmann on Cover That Makes Her Look Crazy

By Noel Sheppard | August 07, 2011 | 20:01

Noel Sheppard's picture

The August 15 issue of Newsweek has a cover story about Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.).

If Gawker is right, she's not going to like the picture the magazine used:

Congresswoman and Republican presidential candidate/shoo-in Michele Bachmann's made the cover of the latest Cosmo Newsweek—an honor that comes with a new if not entirely original nickname ("the Queen of Rage") and complimentary #QueenOfRage Twitter hashtag. Too bad the photographer startled her like that, eh?

Ha ha, just kidding—they don't call her CrazyEyes for nothing.

The Village Voice is also reporting this Sunday.

Exactly what were the editors thinking putting this kind of a picture of a sitting Congresswoman and presidential candidate on their cover?

*****Update: This is accurate. Newsweek tweeted this picture to its followers Sunday morning.

*****Update II: Dana Loesch, Michelle Malkin, and Ed Morrissey weigh in with justifiable outrage.

Reason 1026

Submitted by stunned on Sun, 08/07/2011 - 8:08pm.

The photo is reason number 1026 I dropped Newsweek even though I had a subscription since I was in sixth grade and it was required for current events and I got hooked. Thirty years I read that magazine even though the bias annoyed me but the 2008 election was the final straw and I finally said bye bye. I don't miss it at all.

The only way to eliminate this type of deceitful bias is jail the liberal hacks. If you can go to jail for insider trading, why shouldn't you go to jail for knowingly deceiving the public? Put more bluntly, lying to the public.

I don't let either party shovel their sh1t in my head without questioning it but apparently you have no qualms in doing just that.

Newsweek did this same thing

Submitted by tcm14 on Sun, 08/07/2011 - 8:12pm.

Newsweek did this same thing in the 2008 campaign. The cover for McCain showed a harsh close up photo of him looking ready to snap. The cover for Obama was a glorious black and white air brushed shot of him beaming at an audience with the light caressing his face from the side. So biased.

Once again they disgrace themselves by publishing editions that they write to satisfy their own anger. You can almost hear their readership shrink when they do things like this. People will not pay to read some hack leftist Obama apologist have a tantrum in print.

I would think even people like you could see that the increasing polarization in DC is not working. And quit acting like this is some special time when it comes to polarization. This time is history is no different than the many many many other times we had a divided Congress in the history of this country.

You are not doing well at all. This is why you signed up? To whine because everyone is not acting like YOU want them to act?

I charge that any posts this cop killer lover makes is inflammatory so long as he continues to refuse to present the evidence that convinced him to release 2 convicted cop killers, Mumia and Asata, back upon the population.

His every single post is inflammatory as he thinks he can get away scot free from the ulitimate of inflammatory posts - Telling us to release cop killers based upon some imagninay evidence he and he alone posesses.

I know everyone is entitled to their opinion, Jer. I have to disagree with your assertion that Bal did not post anything inflammatory (it inflamed me, so it must be somewhat inflammatory.) If the faux-high ground question responses that bal is enamored with are enough to make me angry, well, isn't my angry response just as much my right to my opinion? Bal knows his statement is BS and he knows what the point is, to put bad pictures of politicians on a blog or op-ed page is one thing, to plaster it on a national magazine, no matter how much of a worthless rag, is disingenuous and deceitful, and would never be done with the approved "establishment" porkified liars of DC. The innocent, "I don't see it" stance is par for the course with bal as is his deliberate intent to annoy. So I stand by my anger.

The demonization of people like Bachmann, Palin, and the TeaParties, including blaming what is essentially a large segment of the citizenry for everything from murderous rampages to destructive government spending, all the while telling boldface lies to protect the status quo, even to the extent of suggesting limiting free-speech rights for those who dare challenge the career politicians and their lifestyles rooted in corruption, for playing along with and magnifying any criticism of the current administration of boobs as "racism", "terrorism", etc., for working against our troops while aiding and abetting insane religious zealots bent on world domination, for even suggesting the Constitution is a problem, makes libtards a bunch of despicable F***s. I gotta call it like I see it and that particular obscenity was not directed at bal, it is the lying media/lib organizations that I get tired of and are the object of my derision, not a poster on NB.

Warm within
Keep you free from sin
'Til the Bamman he comes

Sleep with one eye open
Gripping your pillow tight

Exit light
Enter night
Take my hand
We're off to Democratic Land

Something's wrong, shut the light
Heavy thoughts tonight
And they aren't of snow white
Dreams of war
Dreams of lies
Dreams of dragons fire
And of things that will bite, yeah

Sleep with one eye open
Grippin' your pillow tight
Exit light
Enter night
Take my hand
We're off to Barackland

Now I lay me down to sleep (x2)
Pray the lord my soul to keep (x2)
And if I die before I wake (x2)

Like I said, I find the headline worse than the picture.

Pretending to take the high road and all?

But to answer your question, any less-than-stellar pictures of o'bama. Such as the picture displayed on the "Dissapoint-mints" candy, for which a Tenn. dim took offense and ordered them removed from a state university bookstore. Those kinds of photos/depictions are clearly off-limits.

So, let me ask you -- do you agree with the Tenn dim? If so, then surely you're going to apologize to everyone here for pretending to be so high and mighty, right?

Submitted by Rush Fan on Sun, 08/07/2011 - 10:17pm.

That's similar to the question I asked when Fox News Host and Democrat Chris Wallace asked Congresswoman and Republican presidential candidate Michelle Bachmann if she was a flake.

For Leftist Newsweek to picture Congresswoman Bachmann in that manner is no surprise. Remember that it was Leftist Newsweek that showed Sara Palin on their cover in runner's shorts.

This is the Left's Modus operandi. Whether it is Obama and his minions attacking Republicans, Fox News, the Tea Party, and now Standard & Poor's, or his Leftist followers in the media (including Democrat Chris Wallace) depicting Republican candidates as flakes or crazy, this is what the Left does.

They say that child molesters can't be rehabilitated. So it is for hardcore Leftists.

Just Give Me a Shot That Has Not Been Photo Shopped

Submitted by Avitar on Mon, 08/08/2011 - 12:11am.

First look at the reflections of the lights in her eyes. If that light was a photo flash she would have "red eye.”

The yellow Journalists when they wanted a bad picture used to send out two photographers with the old flash bulbs. The first flash bulb would go off and the person would look at the first photographer. The second photographer would have his camera lower and off to the subject's left.

The results were that the slit second the irises would tighten down to abnormal small and the result would makes the person look baffled.

Now days we all use electronic flash but it looks like the brightest light source was off to her right left casting a shadow of her hair across her face. There were two cameras. One camera was lower than the one that was holding the Congresswoman attention and the camera was a little off to the Congresswoman's left. They have her POV attention away from the camera that took the picture with and they probably had her talking when they shot this picture. It is a bad picture but is a carefully planned bad picture.

It could be worse. It could have been in a magazine that somebody actually reads.

Gawker Media is no better

Submitted by calends on Mon, 08/08/2011 - 3:09am.

I'm usually not one for inflammatory language, nor do I feel the need to get into endless, stupid, political arguments. Whenever I post on ANY Gawker Media website defending a conservative woman's honor (perhaps pointing out the hypocrisy of those who say they are feminists and yet have no problem calling Sarah Palin a c**nt, b**ch, "animal hater," "only popular because guys want to f**k her" etc...) or rebutting senseless, hateful accusations, the posts NEVER get approved. Combine that with the fact that the articles about politics are rather stupid and Gawker Media sites are generally a huge waste of time. I'm so tired of reading comments from these 20 something hipsters that have everything in life figured out (Liberal politics) and just post their ridiculous political biases and worn out canards over and over again. It's all the same old ad hominems like: "Republicans just want to line their fat pockets at the expense of the poor!" These people will never grow up.

Go after the media by name

Noel,

Get some ads up questioning, at the very least, the individual media persons integrity. Until we start naming names, they will hide behind the moniker MSM or their respective logos-- ABC CBS NBC. I know this is about Newsweak, but who cares about them? EVERY Republican candidate should shun ANY Liberal media outlet and announce why---- they are pro- Obama 100% so why bother. The "media" are out to destroy any and all Repubs----time to go Alinsky and Christie on them.
