Tony Blankley Sarcastically Says to Rude and Dismissive Al Sharpton 'You Are a Very Polite Gentleman'

MSNBC's Al Sharpton on Friday was being tremendously rude and dismissive to his guest the always well-mannered Tony Blankley.

So discourteous was Sharpton that at the end of the discussion, Blankley sarcastically said, "You are a very polite gentleman" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

AL SHARPTON, HOST: What is the plan of the Tea Party to create jobs?

TONY BLANKLEY: Look, the Tea Party has two policies they are trying to get. They want to reduce the debt and they want to reduce the size of government.

SHARPTON: How do you produce jobs?

BLANKLEY: Let me at least finish a couple of sentences. The fundamental problem and the reason why the public is so alienated that the entire political class obviously doesn’t have an answer to these problems, and we are getting more and more scared everyday. And the Tea Party is one voice. They are representing a lot of populist sentiments. You’ve got progressives on the other side having another voice. Nobody is coming up with a convincing policy prescription. That’s why the country is so scared.

SHARPTON: Oh, I got it. So I ask you and Joe was quiet and I was quiet, what is the Tea Party’s plan and you just spent the minute telling me about how nobody had a plan. So, I guess the answer is: the Tea Party has no plan.

BLANKLEY: I told you --

SHARPTON: It reminds me of James Brown my mentor. James Brown used to say, it's like a dog knife, Tony -- it just can’t cut it. You’re talking loud and saying nothing.

BLANKLEY: You are a very polite gentleman.

How pathetic.

Is this really what MSNBC is striving for in the 6PM time slot opposite Fox News's highly acclaimed "Special Report?"

On Thursday, Report trounced MSNBC Live attaining four times the viewership in the all important demographic aged 25-54.

It appears that I'm not the only one in America that thinks this show with the perilously biased Sharpton as host is totally unwatchable.

Al Sharpton

Submitted by Bourbeau on Sat, 08/06/2011 - 6:27pm.

Al Sharpton a rude, loud mouth? Really? Who would have ever thought that. The most important contribution Newsbusters can make towards neutralizing people like Sharpton is to ignore everything he says or does; it adds no value. Moreover, the most important contribution people like Tony Blankely can make to the culture is to not allow himself to be lured into that den of stupidity, also known as MSNBC.

I think that maybe he was a 'gopher' and a 'handyman' and whatever else James wanted him to do, including making sure that all of the right haircreams and perms were there, so that they both could do their hair up in that big bouffant style that they wore. Sharpton adopted it once he started hanging with the Godfather of Soul.

I think that Brown even took young Al in to meet Ronald Reagan.

Sharpton: A small man carrying a megaphone

Submitted by Slyrr on Sat, 08/06/2011 - 7:18pm.

Anyone who agrees to be interviewed by this foul person shares in the blame. Everyone knows what to expect from liberal loudmouths. Al Sharpton is used to clutching onto a megaphone to guarantee that he'll be the loudest voice in the room and shout down everyone else.

Al Sharpton is small, small man who is only just smart enough to realize that he's better off being a big noise in a small room.

If a Liberal/Democrat politician/media figure wants to put their arms around you, or pat you on the back, all they're doing is looking for a good place to stick a knife.

The sooner we realize this and focus more on how to win over the independent thinkers to our ideas, the better off we'll be. Since Al Dull-ton mentioned

Submitted by killa37 on Sat, 08/06/2011 - 8:22pm.

Since Al Dull-ton mentioned James 'the hardest working man in showbiz'.....and the 'Godfather of Soul' Brown as his mentor, I'd have to say that he doesn't seem to have learned anything from Brown. In his heyday, Brown had a band, a back up vocal and dance trio called the Famous Flames, go-go dancers, and whatever and whoever else he needed to do the 300+ gigs that he did every year............AND he'd be in the recording studios during the 'off' days too. Plus......he had busses, and maybe even a plane or two later on And he even had young Al as his hairdresser!!! And he had to PAY for all of this, ya know??? And to PAY for all of this by WORKING, and being responsible, and keeping a schedule, and delivering on his talent and his reputation. I saw James Brown at the height of his career, and he was a total knock-out!!!

And he would FINE the bandmembers who made mistakes!!! Can you imagine that concept these days??? Hell, if Dull-Ton was fined for every mistake or stupid thing he'd said, he'd have to get a government bail-out!!! I dunno anything about Brown's poliltics, and I know that he got a little out there in his later life, but the guy delivered for many a year, and I doubt seriously that he asked for any government subsidies or hand-outs. He did it with relentless work and keeping ahead of the game.

Al Sharpton is nothing but a little punk-ass race baiter..............I'm thinking the last real job that he ever had, where he HAD to be responsible, was when he WAS James Brown's hairdresser..............or James would've fined his sorry ass too!!! Hahahaha!!
Somebody name me ONE THING that Sharpton has done that is worth a damn in the last 20 years................

And Tony Blankley is always a pretty classy guy. I don't know why he would lower himself to trying to have a conversation with this clown...............and I still don't know why Hannity would let this mumbling crackhead on his show so much.

Wow.....check it out, Rick!!! Not only did James buy his wife a MINK COAT - call PETA!!!!! - but then he threw it on the ground and shot it up!!! Blame the NRA!!!!! And imagine that - he had trouble with the IRS!!! Which is more than I can say for Howdy Doody Geither, or Charlie Wrangle, or any other number of Democrat tax cheats!!! I guess the IRS couldn't let a 'black' country boy become as successful as he was without having to extract their own ton of flesh out of him, right???

Yeah, I think that ol' James was a little wrapped up in the 'angel dust' at that time...............too bad. And if Michaal Jackson and Prince gave Browns estate a quarter for every time they copped one of his dance moves, his heirs would be looking pretty good.

Didn't really see anything that bad

Submitted by dydx on Sat, 08/06/2011 - 9:10pm.

Just watched the segment. Didn't think Al was extremely rude and obnoxious. Just a little rude and obnoxious. Nothing more than you see on other shows with an opinionated host....left and right. Let's all at least acknowledge that.

And Al did have a point...the guy Blankley didn't answer his question. He could have said "well, no, the Tea Party doesn't have direct plan per say. That's not what we're about. Does the Green Party or the Black Panthers have a job plan? We're hoping that with lower taxes and minimized govt. the private will flourish." Instead, the guy did babble on and didn't address the question which gave good ol' Rev. Al a reason to pipe in.

Don't like Al or his brood mate Jesse at all, but this was a bad example to make an example of.

Don't understand you saying "so let's have a shining example of something good OR positive to say about ol' Reverend Al." I don't have anything like that to say of him. Do you? And why would I want to take a lot of years to come up with what you ask? It's not the point. Seems like you think I was defending him, and thus became persona non grata in your eyes. Is that it?

Like I said....I DON'T like him. I'm just saying this is a poor example of showcasing his @$$holeness. This example is not one you can point to and say "see...he's such a big jerk." The behavior exhibited in THIS EXAMPLE is nothing worse than I've seen Beck, O'Reilly, Medved, Larry Elder, Dennis Prager, Hugh Hewitt, etc... I've listened to the last four for decades, and while they are all great hosts I've heard them at some point behave just the way ol' Al did in this example. Not all the time or even frequently, but they all have interrupted and talked over guests once in a while.

So....MD....don't quite understand your slight animus toward what I said... Just trying to be mature and honest here. And just because I like NB doesn't mean I shouldn't mention any disagreement with them however great or slight...and just because I don't like Al Sharpton doesn't mean I should revel in any minor and petty critique of him.

Daily Kos and Democratic Underground are full of knee jerk sycophants that go nuts when one doesn't toe the party line. I hope that's not the case here.

Good points, dydx---

Submitted by matthewdean on Sun, 08/07/2011 - 1:46am.

 Each and every one.

My intense dislike of Al Sharpton stems partly from the fact that he has been cut way too much slack for way too long and that has helped create the monster he has become.

Yep, it seemed to me like you were defending him.  If you say you weren't,  fair enough.  If you had been, I understand your thought process, but---

As far as cutting Sharpton a break in this instance - or any other - I'm of the opinion that if I handled a rattlesnake several times, and got bit several times, more the fool am I.

Sharpton has shown his colors over and over and over again; he is a race baiting pimp AND whore and I wouldn't trust him any further than I could throw his worthless fat ass.

I wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire.

But then, that's just my reaction to him and his nasty-assed race baiting existence.   :o)

♫ Al's so vain, he prob'ly thinks this quote is about him... ♫

"There is another class of coloured people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs — partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do do not want to lose their jobs."

"I am afraid that there is a certain class of race-problem solvers who don't want the patient to get well, because as long as the disease holds out they have not only an easy means of making a living, but also an easy medium through which to make themselves prominent before the public."--Booker T. True dat.

Submitted by falcon on Sun, 08/07/2011 - 10:52am.

Let's all remember, MSNBC is not a news channel, it's an "entertainment" channel for the left-wing echo chamber. It's ideological pornography disguised as "news" and "commentary."

Remember when local news operations used to have to identify which part of their newscast was news and which was commentary? And the just-before-sign-off blurbs from the general managers of TV stations like WABC and WCBS that were identified as "comment?" Those days are apparently gone forever. Even if they were a product of the Fairness Doctrine, there was no harm in identifying something as a blatant comment or opinion. Now, for many viewers, it's almost impossible to tell the difference, with people like Don Lemon, Contessa Brewer, and that what's-her-name that just moved from NBC to CBS (Norah O'Donnell, I think) who are always spouting DNC talking points and kissing Obama's butt and disguising it as "news."

I don't watch news anymore. I don't watch any opinion or talk shows. I get my news from the Internet, from a variety of sources (left and right - it's almost impossible to get a consensus on even the real facts these days) and I feel that, even doing that, I'm not getting the complete picture. Today's news media is designed to confuse people, diffuse and obfuscate the truth, and advance the Left's agenda. Welcome to the days of 1984, where up is down, left is right, black is white, and truth is dead.

“I will not stand by and watch this great country destroy itself under mediocre leadership, that drifts from one crisis to the next, eroding our national will and purpose.” – Ronald Reagan, July 17, 1980.

I've said it before, and I will say it again. Why would

Submitted by Rush Fan on Sat, 08/06/2011 - 11:02pm.

Tony Blankley or any other intelligent Conservative or Republican appear on MESSNBC. I just don't understand. From Matthews to Maddow to Sharpton, there is not one host on that network who treats a right-leaning guest with respect. Tony Blankley certainly knows this. Perhaps Blankley, who I respect, has issues with self-esteem we're not aware of.

All I can figure is:

Submitted by Chris Norman on Sun, 08/07/2011 - 2:25am.

1) They are so enamored of being on television they will go on any show that they are asked to appear
2) Their egos are so great that they think they can actually win the argument in these kangaroo court type of shows - or at minimum - score some points that will resonate - with who's watching , I have no idea.
3) They are so naive that they actually think they will get a fair hearing (what I call the Charlie Brown/Lucy Football Kick Syndrome)

Whatever - It's hard to believe that an intelligent guy like Tony Blankley actually thinks a blatant charlatan like Sharpton is going to thoughtfully listen to his reasoning and say, "Gosh, Tony. You're right. You've convinced me of the wrongness of my ideology and from now on it's conservatism for me!". At best, does he actually think there are people who watch this show who would be open-minded to his ideas? I've said here before and will say it again: MSNBC, of all the liberal channels, should be a quarantined zone for liberals. Let them talk to each other and rail away at conservatives all they want. Marginalize them by refusing all invitations to appear. They will complain, taunt, and gnash their teeth, but no one, except other liberals will hear them. They've created, in effect, an echo chamber of hyper-partisan liberalism - conservatives should help them make it literally so.

Let's make the 2012 campaign: "The War on Error"

Chris...... Your list of reasons is certainly comprehensive.

Submitted by Rush Fan on Sun, 08/07/2011 - 10:57pm.

Your explanation must surely apply to RINOs like McCain and Graham who, as you indicate, "are so enamored of being on television they will go on any show that they are asked to appear." It appears that Tony Blankley may have succumbed to those weaknesses, as well.

Rush Limbaugh had a similar explanation for "Inside the Beltway" Republicans and Conservatives:

"They are Washingtonians. Washingtonians have their own culture and their own desires, and it is to matter. They don't care who's in power, they just want to be closely associated with whoever is. That's the name of the game and they want press adulation. They want to be loved and adored by the media, they want fawning treatment, they want to be thought of as something special, unique, dignified and so forth, and that's the Washington establishment."

The Tea Party is turning Leftists insane

Submitted by ChrisNH on Sun, 08/07/2011 - 7:35am.

Leftists tried marginalizing the Tea Party ("Pay no attention to THEM," they sneered). But now it is such a joy seeing Leftists--politicians and the media hacks who kneel Lewinsky-like before them--in utter panic and outrage over the momentum the Tea Party has achieved.

I LOVE it!!!

Uncontrolled hatred,

Submitted by Semus on Sun, 08/07/2011 - 11:41am.

Uncontrolled hatred, immeasurable ignorance, unbelievable dishonesty, and incredible arrogance in one, ridiculous package, Al Sharpton a ruthless liar is the face of the main stream media. I'm very pleased that he is where he is, there is no longer any pretense of honesty and decency on MSNBC. I wonder how long before the other MSM channels will follow suit with more crap like this, they'd just be becomming who they really are.

This is a good thing it will further diminish the number of people who are still clinging to the lie that they can trust the MSM.

Good job and thank You MSNBC.

Dear Al, Did You Find Tawana Brawley's "Rapist" Yet?

Submitted by Motormouth KOS on Mon, 08/08/2011 - 9:39am.

Trick question, I really don't care, liar.

Let's talk about your hero, Professor Hussein Obama...

What did he do with his unassailable majority for the first 2 years?  Focus on jobs?  Nope, he saddled us with the Next Great Entitlement, Obamacare.

Now he's supposed to be serious about job creation?

Ha-ha-ha-haha-ha-haha-ha-haha-ha-haha-ha-haha-ha-haha-ha-haha-ha-haha-ha-haha-ha-haha-ha-haha-ha-ha

Is that why he hired Jeffrey Immeldt, GE CEO?

The same clown who made sure that GE paid no taxes in 2010...

The same clown who shipped 34,000 jobs overseas since he took over?

The same clown whose network carries Obama's water every night?

The Obamination... A crisis leading to a catastrophe..(please donate to MRC)
