Charles Krauthammer Scolds Margaret Carlson for Saying Tea Party 'Strapped Explosives to the Capitol'

By Noel Sheppard | July 29, 2011 | 18:33

Bloomberg's Margaret Carlson on Friday accused the Tea Party of wanting "to burn the place down" and having figuratively "strapped explosives to the Capitol" during debt ceiling negotiations.

Sitting beside her on PBS's "Inside Washington" was Charles Krauthammer who smartly replied, "I thought post-Tucson we weren’t supposed to accuse our political opponents of being terrorists" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

MARGARET CARLSON, BLOOMBERG NEWS: I have to downgrade Charles here. You initially said why don’t Republicans, you know, take the victory. And it’s because there’s a nihilist caucus which is, “Listen, we want to burn the place down." I mean, they’re not, they’ve strapped explosives to the Capitol and they think they are immune from it. The Tea Party caucus wants this crisis, and do we want to do this again six months from now? This whole two-step process is another thing which is they like the drama. They want to do it again.

CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER: I thought that post-Tucson we weren’t supposed to accuse our political opponents of being terrorists.

CARLSON: Nihilists.

KRAUTHMAMMER: Strapping a bomb is a terrorist.

No, actually Charles, that rule was never intended for liberals.

Only conservatives are expected to show their political opponents a modicum of respect.

Sadly, liberals can say whatever they want about their enemies with total impunity.

Shutting the government down

Submitted by jkwtrading on Fri, 07/29/2011 - 6:56pm.

Shutting the government down isn't so bad...it is the only thing liberals have going for themselves. they don't work or produce anything but hot air and crazy reasons, at least with the government shut down, they'd shut up.Their only point of existence is to scream the sky is falling, then we can all fall into line with a healthy dose of " woe on them" or how to agree a liberal is pitiful, ..or trying to steal our money..

Hideous is a polite name for these libs sitting in front of cameras and daily calling The Tea Party, terroists. There are numerous other names for libs but, why waste time name-calling such useless, mean-spirited, uneducated, arrogant, elites who don't have a clue about much of anything. Maybe it is time for Barry to come out and call for civility..........again. Doesn't appear any of his followers are obeying him

Submitted by albermarle1963 on Fri, 07/29/2011 - 8:52pm.

Why is it that the democrats fall in line behind their leader with hardly EVER a peep of opposition to their leader? On the republican side there is ALWAYS members who oppose their leader and aren't afraid to express their displeasure! This is one reason why I still respect republicans. Until the Tea Party gets enough members in government to evolve into their own party, I'll vote republican!
Now for Carlson. She and her comrades on the left are dispicable scumbags, to use such strong, hate filled, vitriolic language! They should just stick with "the sky is falling, the sky is falling!"

The MO - D's calling R's terrorists (and any number of other . .

Submitted by Gary Hall on Fri, 07/29/2011 - 10:02pm.

Ah, the Hammer, hammered it, but good.

I'm re-posting this comment, because I listened to a most discerning on-line Town Hall chat last night with my Congresswoman - Karen Bass, D (for dumb). This woman is so ill-informed that she is actually insisting to her constituents that the deficits have nothing to do with the debt.

OK, ready. To drive her point home, she holds up a monthly Treasury budget (bar graph; bills and revenue) which would indicate that the monthly deficit is around $130 billion (not a problem, in her view) and how that adds to the Debt -- of course, there's no connection there?  I know, I don't even know how to repeat how nuts this is. Watch that here, Virtual Town Hall on Debt Negotiations  - It's a lie a minute. Oh, and racism is in the air.

Back onto how responsible folks are terrorists:

Oh, I probably can't make the case that Karen Bass, D., CA is the originator in what has become the easy and free use of the horribly misused word, "terrorist," in describing those on the other side who support a different view; however, perhaps I can provide a good example of how our national media has enabled such vitriolic rhetoric to become mainstream -- certainly within the liberal media and the Democratic Party:

Back in June, 2009, then California Assembly Speaker, Karen Bass, D., now a US Congresswoman from LA's 33rd District, offered this up in an Los Angeles Times full page feature interview - See NB coverage here:

  • The Republicans were essentially threatened and terrorized against voting for revenue. Now [some] are facing recalls. They operate under a terrorist threat: "You vote for revenue and your career is over." I don't know why we allow that kind of terrorism to exist. I guess it's about free speech, but it's extremely unfair.

A few days later, Karen Bass, was back in the same paper, in Speaker boycotts California budget session:

Assembly Speaker Karen Bass (D-Los Angeles), who had left closed-door talks Sunday night "very discouraged," boycotted a morning negotiating session . .

Naw -- I guess that's not what the R's could call "terrorism." Well, my goodness, what the MSM would have done if a Republican had called her a terrorist. The Democrats controlled both houses of the CA state legislature; she's the Speaker, and she walks out and boycotts the future of the State's budget. Hmm.

So. In reward for this kind of hate speech, here's what the LA Times puts out the next day, in Karen Bass is a target atop the California Assembly:

  • Assembly Speaker Karen Bass takes pride in being a consensus-builder, a soothing and maternal let's-get-along kind of leader. Now please pardon the interruption -- Madam Speaker is ticked off.

She's "soothing and material? Sorry, I've still got "terrorized," "terrorist threat," and "that kind of terrorism," burning in my ears. She's "ticked off?" Shouldn't everyone else be "ticked off" at her? It continues::

  • That rare outburst earned an ovation from her Democratic caucus. But Bass has no time to be sanguine. A few Capitol insiders say that barely a year into her tenure, attempts to topple Bass are inevitable.

Actually she termed out, and waltzed into departing radical liberal Congresswoman Diane Watson's seat; supported, naturally, by the Los Angeles Times.

The national MSM supports hate speech from the left, as long as it is directed towards the right.

And now - it's most everywhere - most any day, any hour.

When was it inserted into the liberal talking points to use the term "revenue" instead of taxes? Which of their leaders changed the terminology for them? If they were honest, they'd say "the government needs to confiscate more of your wealth and earnings in order to buy votes and spend more." Of course, they'd add an aside that it's only "the rich" who they will steal from. The only ones who support more government "revenue" are those who believe they will not be the ones to supply it.

The answer to 1984 is 1776.

Virtual Town Hall on Debt Negotiations

Submitted by Farley on Sat, 07/30/2011 - 11:09am.

You had such an interesting introduction to Bass' Virtual Town Hall on Debt Negotiations that I linked to it -- fool that I am. It took about 90 seconds for me to ask myself, "What the heck am I doing?" It's bad enough one has to suffer their utterances on TV but watching it on the internet is way too much for any person with a working knowledge of English to endure. Grrr...

What else would you expect from Margaret Carlson?

Submitted by djwolf12 on Sat, 07/30/2011 - 11:18pm.

She is a staple at MSLSD. She is a compulsive liberal, and compulsive liberals just can't help themselves to use extreme vitriol against people with whom they disagree. In other words, she just cannot handle the fact that the Tea Party won the elections very handily last year. Since she does not have the guts to say so, she is essentially saying that the american people are terrorists because they will not drop trow and spread it wide for Obama, Reid, and Pelosi.
