Charles Krauthammer Tells 'Inside Washington' Host 'You Manage to Introduce a Hell of a Lot of Bias'
"Inside Washington" host Gordon Peterson on Friday accused Tea Party members of being out of touch with reality due to their support for the Republican "Cut, Cap, and Balance" bill as well as a balanced budget amendment.
This lead Charles Krauthammer to respond, "I like the way you pose an objective question implying the insanity of a Republican proposal which passed the House...You manage to introduce a hell of a lot of bias" (video follows with transcript and commentary):
GORDON PETERSON, HOST: House Republicans say they have a solution: Cut, Cap, and Balance. Tea Party folks love the idea of a Constitutional amendment to balance the budget. At what point does reality rear its ugly head with some of these people, cause it ain’t going to happen?
CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER: I like the way you pose an objective question implying the insanity of a Republican proposal which passed the House. I just want the viewers to understand how this is a fair and balanced program.
PETERSON: Well, we do our best. We don’t have the vast resources of Rupert Murdoch and Fox News, but we do the best we can.
NINA TOTENBERG, NPR: [Laughs]
KRAUTHAMMER: I understand, but on a shoestring, you manage to introduce a hell of a lot of bias.
PETERSON: Thank you very much.
KRAUTHAMMER: I commend you on your…
PETERSON: Can you answer my question? When does reality rear its ugly head with these people?
Speaking of reality rearing its ugly head, Peterson must have missed the parts of Thursday's CNN poll finding 66 percent of respondents supporting "Cut, Cap, and Balance" and 74 percent favoring a balanced budget amendment.
This is especially peculiar as Peterson later in the program referred to the CNN poll, just not the sections contradicting his depiction of Tea Partiers supporting the same things an overwhelming majority of Americans as being out of touch with reality.
Maybe the limited budget PBS gives him for the program only affords him access to small portions of polls rather than the complete text every other person can access for free via the internet.
If you believe that, I've got some bridges for sale in New York.

If PBS tried a capitalist "fair and balanced" approach to reporting they might have the resources of Murdoch's FOX, but like all of those who live with a socialist welfare mentality, they are doomed to mediocrity! If they would simply open their minds to reality, their business might survive, but in the meantime we have to listen to them complain that they ain't getting enough government cheese!
PBS's biggest fear is the Tea Party because they know, that come November 2012, the free ride is over and the demise of federal funds for PBS becomes their new reality!

"At what point does reality rear its ugly head with some of these people, cause it ain’t going to happen?"
Hummm, interesting augment, and one totally devoid of reason,as well as ignorant of history. Here's some other Amendments that, in the past, some people thought "ain't gonna happen."
The 13th Amendment: The End of slavery.
The 15th Amendment: Blacks have the right to vote
The 16th Amendment: Income taxes, enough said?
The 18th Amendment : Prohibition
The 19th Amendment: Women have the right to vote.
The 21st Amendment : The repeal of Prohibition
(Interesting observation: Men had to sober up for over a year before women were allowed the right to vote. And, not long after that, Prohibition was repealed. Was Prohibition a weapon that women used against men in order to achieve political power? Inquiring minds want to know! Prohibition, after all, was a woman's movement.)
The 24th Amendment : The end of poll taxes (Politicians actually voted to end a tax? NO WAY!)
The 26th Amendment : 18 Year Olds have the right to vote.
The 27th Amendment : Congressmen can't vote themselves pay raises for their current term. (But, they did find a way around that quick enough. Now pay raises are automatic unless they vote otherwise.)
Each and every one of these Amendments, while popular with the general public (well, except for Prohibition), were, at the time they were proposed, very unpopular with the majority of Congress. In most cases, it took several election cycles, and the replacement of several Congressmen, to get these Amendment proposals passed by Congress and delivered to the States, which took several more years, and several more election cycles with the associated replacement of respective Legislators and Governors, to finally get them ratified. If we took Peterson's advice and dropped them when they were first proposed, NONE of those Amendments would exist today.
