No 'Chris Matthews Show' Panelist Can Name Republican Candidate That Could Be Great President
Chris Matthews as usual had four guests on the weekly syndicated program bearing his name.
When he asked them which of the current Republican candidates could end up being a great president, nobody chose to identify a single one (video follows with transcript and commentary):
CHRIS MATTHEWS, HOST: Welcome back. This week's big question for us: of the Republicans running for president, which one offers the best chance of becoming a great president? John Heilemann?
JOHN HEILEMANN, NEW YORK MAGAZINE: You know, I put down my chisel from when I finished working on Mt. Rushmore the last time. I'm not really in that business. But, you know, you think about a guy like Harry Truman, a humble haberdasher. You know, yeah, there's greatness within all of us, Chris.
So Matthews asked for them to name a Republican, and Heilemann named a Democrat. Need to anything more to fully grasp his political leanings?
Let's continue:
GLORIA BORGER, CNN: Okay, I'm with him [Points to Heilemann and laughs] I think there are enough people on Mt. Rushmore, right.
0 for 2. Next?
KELLY O’DONNELL, NBC: Well, I’m going to be on somebody's Republican bus. So I think you're pushing me over the cliff.
0 for 3:
MATTHEWS: Okay, one guy’s got guts. Go for it.
JOE KLEIN, TIME MAGAZINE: The great Republican: he adopted a Republican foreign policy, he passed a Republican healthcare plan, he supported Republican cap and trade answer on global warming. Barack Obama is the Republican candidate who should be on Mt. Rushmore.
MATTHEWS: Okay, he’s much more moderate than you think.
So not only didn't any of these so-called journalists name one of the current Republican candidates as possibly becoming a great president, the only actual names mentioned were both Democrats.
If you had any doubts about the amount of liberal bias in today's news media, just play this clip over and over until such doubts have been wiped from your mind.
And if that's still not enough, consider that likely all of these folks - including the host - believe Obama - despite 9.2 unemployment, rising gas and food prices, and an exploding debt - IS a great president.
Makes you want to believe these people when they report on important matters facing the nation, doesn't it?

exception of Matthews, the rest of the panelists are conservatives. Isn't Gloria Borger a big fan of Michelle Bachmann? Perhaps it's Sarah Palin. I get confused sometimes. At least Matthews is making an attempt to diversify his panel. I'm tired of seeing just Libs on his show.

His panel consisted of hard left idealists. That's not hardball. We should all be asking who should challenge Obama in the Democratic Party primary. Obama can't win in 2012.

He's always on Morning Joe. When Scarborough demanded to know where Obama's budget has been he pursed his lips and whispered "he doesn't have one" and looked like he wanted to crawl under the table.

I can't name one of those running who would be a great president either. One never knows till you see what one has elected; policies, who they surround themselves with (cabinet) and so on. BUT, EVERY ONE THEM IS better than the member in office currently. Dopey from Mickey Mouse would be a great president compared to the current occupant.

To paraphrase Ronald Reagan......
The American people tend to elect a common man as President. One of their own. Then that man must rise to the level of the position.
We have seen that Mr Reagan was a wise man in many areas.
Hopefully people also know what he meant when he said MAN. An ordinary woman, one of our own, and with the help of true Americans, she will be chosen and given the opportunity to rise to the level of the position of President of the United States. It's time we give her a try.
Matthews hypothectical question is pointless

No one in the Republican Party jumps out at me as having the potential to be a "Great President." No one in the Democratic Party does either. That doesn't mean that a future Great President isn't out there right now.
Presidential greatness is determined by the challenges they are confronted with and the short-term and long-term impacts of their handling of them. None of that can be predicated.
I'm sure if Matthews posed the question about Democrats that could Great Presidents, they'd agree on Andrew Cuomo. I'm sure that if one scoured the MSM 2008 Election Night coverage, there'd be almost unanimous agreement that Obama could be a great President -- history thus far has burst that bubble.

Of course none of the Republican candidates would be a "great president". Why, that would mean he or she would have replaced the greatest president president who ever was or will ever be! That Republican usurper would go down as the biggest "villain" in American history (aside from George W Bush).

If these genius panelists from MSNBC, Time, New York Magazine, CNN, etc. bothered to take a look at any objective recent polling data, they'd note that a generic Republican beats Obama by 9%. That basically means voters would overwhelmingly prefer any GOP candidate to Obama. Or in other words, a chimpanzee would be just as capable at picking the successful GOP candidate as Matthews, Borger, O'Donnell or Klein.
Think about that. These MSNBC panelists have just essentially admitted to being intellectually inferior to a banana-eating, turd-flinging primate.

I like Marco Rubio because he articulates the truth. The current crop of Republican contenders are just okay. If Perry or Palin stay out, then I think Romney will be the nominee. He's not my favorite guy but he can't be any worse than Obama.
