Michelle Obama First Public Figure on 'Better Homes and Gardens' Cover in 48 Years
"Better Homes and Gardens" hasn't had a public figure on its cover in 48 years.
With President Obama's approval rating plummeting along with the nation's employment picture, they must have figured now was the time to break with tradition and do an ultimate exposure puff piece on his wife:
Better Homes and Gardens will feature First Lady Michelle Obama on the cover of its August issue - the first public figure to grace the magazine's cover in 48 years.
Obama will be the focus of an article on healthful eating for children. The issue will hit newsstands July 19.
Editors from the magazine, which is owned by Des Moines-based Meredith Corp., and the first lady co-hosted a picnic in May for D.C. fifth-graders. The magazine features photos of the picnic and an interview with Obama about her efforts to promote healthful habits.
Americans better prepare themselves for wall-to-wall Obama cover stories between now and November 2012 not just about him but also his family.
If you thought the media pulled out all the stops in 2008, you ain't seen nuttin' yet.

.... when every magazine was foaming at the mouth looking to do a spread on "Jackie", that is The First Lady, Jacqueline Kennedy? We were inundated with her at every twist and turn and that unwavering media obsession followed the woman for decades and straight to her grave. Women salivated at her wardrobe, her accessories, her coiffure, shoes, and so forth. And when she married Aristotle Onassis, the obsession grew that much worse.
The media exists and thrives mainly because IT creates the actual interest that ultimately sells its products, not the other way around. They have become charlatans and I wouldn't expect them to be any less taken with Michelle Obama than they have been to date. And though I'm definitely not an Obama fan, it would be foolish to blame her for being married to an incompetent narcissist. She might just end up being the one saving grace of this administration in spite of the hypocrisy and political dysfunction that engulfs it.
We just have to start tuning out all of the hype, regardless of the individual, and look at what's really going on around us. Better Homes and Gardens is not in any way going to alter the unemployment figures, the debt, the deficit, the stalemate on Capital Hill, Libya, etc., etc. Neither is Michelle.

Print sales are way down. Do these magazines really think the best way to increase sales are to put divisive and flat-out unlikeable people on the cover? Especially a magazine like Better Homes and Gardens. Elitist leftists are not the bulk of their audience. Think of all the wasted material when most American women leave this one to rot on the shelves. That should send the eco-freaks into a frenzy...but I guess it's OK when it's their own lot to blame.

about Michelle Obama being on the cover of Better Homes and Gardens and I don't mind her taking on a healthy eating campaign. What irks me is that she is focusing on the parents who she alleges fail to feed their kids healthy foods, while totally ignoring the chemical-based, high-fat, high-salt garbage that kids get fed through the federal school lunch program. These foods that kids get fed in schools (and in rural communities throughout the summers) are made with the worst, low-grade ingredients and their target population is the poor kids, whose parents rely on the free or reduced lunch program for healthy foods. If she really wanted to make a difference in the lives of children, she would focus squarely on the free and reduced lunch program and its web of government-subsidized food producers who are filling our kids with ingredients that can't even been termed "food."
And again, the GOP has an opportunity here - they can focus on the poor food quality of the school lunch program rather than focusing on Mrs. Obama - what she says, what she eats and what magazines she's in. They should be asking questions about the program and demanding better quality food for our children and questioning why Mrs. Obama is focusing on parents and not the federal program designed to feed kids.
MissMinPhx,

Actually she has spoken at least a couple of times on school food and if I recall correctly she called for a ban of certain foods on school campuses. You are right though, supporting good nutrition is one thing but if you are going to push for bans and regulation they need to stick the federally provided food - especially in the halls of the WH, Congress and the SC.
Mr. And Mrs. Obama - two commie 'peas' in a commie pod
Submitted by Slyrr on Tue, 07/12/2011 - 5:02pm.
Barry-boy the man-child went out yesterday telling job-hungry Americans to 'eat 'yo peas!'
And his wife is out there stuffing her face with ribs, cheeseburgers and french fries while commanding everybody else to live on tree bark, grass and rain water.
They're two 'peas' in a pod. Obama telling everyone else THEY have to sacrifice because of his failed leadership while he gorges himself on our tax dollars. And his wife 'Mooch'elle ordering everyone to starve themselves while she lards her backside with junk food.
I wonder if Michelle grows tamales and french fries

Because if she doesn't, I doubt she eats anything out of it at all.

I don't think she planted any potatoes in the White House Veggie Garden . . . it was " . . . spinach, onions, shallots, garlic, chard, snap peas, arugula . . . , carrots and okra."

Shallots and garlic need to be planted in the fall.

.... anything grown in the White House garden could never be considered "organic" because of something with or in the soil or whatever. I'm so not up to speed on farming, agriculture or even gardening for that matter. Let me grow some basil in a small pot and I'm good to go.

I recall they were supposed to use her garden veggies on some cooking show, but ended up using veggies they got somewhere else. Another FAIL for the Obamas.
