Martin Bashir Falsely Accuses Palin of Calling Obama a 'Sugar Daddy'

By Noel Sheppard | July 11, 2011 | 19:00

Martin Bashir Monday falsely accused former Alaska governor Sarah Palin of calling President Obama a sugar daddy.

Not only did the MSNBC host badly misinterpret Palin's words, he clearly doesn't understand what a sugar daddy is (video follows with transcript and commentary):

MARTIN BASHIR, HOST: Another GOP favorite in the headlines this week, Sarah Palin, she’s been interviewed in Newsweek magazine, or there’s a big feature about her. She thinks that she can win the election. She’s also got a new pasting, posting on her Facebook where she refers to the President as a sugar daddy.

GOLDIE TAYLOR, THE GRIO: She does, indeed. You know, I’ve got to wonder about Sarah Palin. I, I wonder about…

BASHIR: Do you understand a sugar daddy to be a pimp?

TAYLOR: That’s exactly what a sugar daddy is.

Actually, I've always considered a sugar daddy to be more of a John than a pimp.

A pimp is a prostitute's business manager so to speak oftentimes helping her find clients and taking a slice of the pie.

By contrast, a sugar daddy is typically a well-off man that sets up a woman in an apartment and buys her things in return for sexual service and companionship. This is certainly how the Urban Dictionary sees it as well as Wikipedia.

But that was just the beginning of Bashir's stupidity, for in "The Sugar Daddy Has Run Out of Sugar; Now We Need New Leaders," Palin wasn't referring to Obama at all:

Barack Obama’s big government policies continue to fail. He should put a link to the national debt clock on his BlackBerry. The gears on that clock have nearly exploded during his administration. Yesterday’s terrible job numbers should not be a surprise because it all goes back to our debt. Our dangerously unsustainable debt is wiping out our jobs, crippling our economic growth, and jeopardizing our position in the global economy as the leader of the free world. [...]

The same “experts” who got us into this mess are now telling us that the only way out of our debt crisis is to “increase revenue,” but not by creating more jobs and therefore a larger tax base; no, they want to “increase revenue” by raising taxes on job creators who are taxed enough already! As Margaret Thatcher said, “The trouble with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people’s money.” That’s where we are now. Hard working taxpayers have been big government’s Sugar Daddy for far too long, and now we’re out of sugar. We don’t want big government, we can’t afford it, and we are unwilling to pay for it.

That deserves repeating: "Hard working taxpayers have been big government’s Sugar Daddy for far too long, and now we’re out of sugar. We don’t want big government, we can’t afford it, and we are unwilling to pay for it."

As such, Palin was calling "hard working taxpayers" that have been footing the bill for others the sugar daddy - NOT Obama.

It appears the British native not only has difficulty with American slang, he's also got quite a problem with reading comprehension.

You can see why he fits in so well at MSNBC.

These clowns seem to check common sense at the door when Sarah Palin comes up. If they didn't say it with such a straight face you would almost have to think they were kidding. Surely someone on the production staff will explain it to them. Maybe they have never actually heard the phrase "Sugar daddy." Either that or they really are clueless.

This is a good example of liberals' basic inability to understand Conservatives.

This inability vitiates their competence in general to comment on political matters, and particularly on conservative matters, which transcend their level of sophistication.

Submitted by Dave81 on Mon, 07/11/2011 - 8:10pm.

but in many cases it is not even sexual in nature. Most of the time I hear Sugar Daddy it's simply referring to someone who is loaded and is paying for someone else's comforts.

Although in the case of the tax paying Americans, the favor was sexual. We've been getting screwed for years.

The real pimps are the media

Submitted by Slyrr on Mon, 07/11/2011 - 9:00pm.

If anyone could be compared to pimps and whores, it's the Democrat media.

The media pimped Obama. There's no other way to describe it. They pimped him. They promised America that Obama would give each and every citizen gratification without consequence - exactly what a pimp promises a customer if they buy one of their whores.

The media whored themselves for Obama. They sold their honesty, their integrity, their souls, anything they once had that might have had a shred of decency or humanity, they sold it. They hide Obama's lies. They lie about his enemies. "It's my job to make Obama look good". That was what Chris 'Thrills in my pants' Matthews said, and in a nutshell, it wraps up exactly what the whole media establishment did. They became Obama's media whores, taking money in exchange for favorable coverage.

If a Liberal/Democrat politician/media figure wants to put their arms around you, or pat you on the back, all they're doing is looking for a good place to stick a knife.

Sarah Palin did not refer to Obama as a "Sugar Daddy".

Submitted by jawebster1 on Tue, 07/12/2011 - 1:29am.

The "Sugar Daddy" she probably refers to is "Big Government" and the "Sugar" big government doles out is dollars that it collects from the taxpayer class. Obama has managed to divide our country right down the middle. On one side we have the taxpayer class and on the other side we have the tax recipient class. Nice job Obama! Your "distributionist" philosophy has finally taken hold. Please don't worry about ruining the Country in the process. (In reading further, I see the "Sugar Daddy" Palin refers to is the taxpayer and not big government. The problem with that analogy is that the taxpayer has its sugar ripped away by big government in the form of taxes and that does not make a very happy "Sugar Daddy". Instead of "Sugar Daddy" a better term for the taxpayer would be the "Goose that lays the golden egg" and if Obama has his way, the Goose's days are numbered.)
