George Will to Donna Brazile: Obama and Dems Have Kicked Deficit Can So Much It's 'Can Abuse'
Democrat strategist and ABC contributor Donna Brazile on Sunday predictably blamed the current debt ceiling impasse on Republicans and their refusal to raise taxes.
This led George Will to state what would be obvious to all media members if they weren't so in the tank for Barack Obama, namely that he and his Party have been kicking the deficit can down the road so long they're guilty of "can abuse" (video follows with transcript and commentary):
CHRISTIANE AMANPOUR, HOST: Everybody knows that entitlements have to be in play as well, and if it hadn’t been for the hardball negotiations that the Republicans were doing, the President may not have come to even talking about entitlements.
DONNA BRAZILE, DEMOCRATIC STRATEGIST, ABC AND CNN CONTRIBUTOR: He put it on the table, the Republicans came into the room, got their appetizers and said, “You know what? Main course, we’ll just walk away.” Maybe tonight the President will serve dessert. It’s after six o’clock, George, I should be cooking.
GEORGE WILL: Before we have a moratorium I hope on the can metaphor, let’s look at who’s been kicking the can down the road. Democrats started kicking the can down the road when they stopped writing budgets. The President kicked the can down the road by appointing a deficit commission. Then he kicked it again down the road by ignoring the deficit commission. Then he submitted a budget in February that no one on either side of the House would support that promised to increase the deficit. That’s a lot of kicking. That’s can abuse.
Indeed it is, and if Congressional Republicans along with a GOP President had behaved this way for over two years, the media would be up in arms about it.
Congressional Democrats have not proposed a budget since Obama's fiscal 2010 one was passed in April 2009. That's 27 straight months worth of can kicking right up to this debt ceiling showdown.
It's been many decades since there's been an entire political party that has so abdicated its budget responsibility, a fact that seems lost on so-called journalists who are supposed to be exposing such hypocrisy rather than assisting its cover-up as well as its willing distortion of the truth so the blame can be diverted to the largely innocent.
This would be laughable if the nation wasn't facing another financial crisis that will make the last one look like a simple bounced check.
Sadly, this Marx Brothers movie we're watching is real, and the only ones laughing are the press as they pat themselves on the back for once again being able to convince so many people that one plus one doesn't equal two.

At the end of the day, no one wants a horrible economy. But I also don't want artificial seeds of an 'improving' economy to usher in four more years of Obama. Because those 'four more years of Obama' will be more radical and more liberal than those we've seen these past 2.5 years.
Everyone has correctly concluded that the gloom in this country will not disappear until Obama does.

That can't be real, security is ultra tight at that place and its location isn't on any known maps or anything. And some of those pictures look so photoshopped that it's ridiculous, like DuhOne walking around in front of that sign, it looks wrong. And then there's that picture of the happy hour thing with him looking goofy with a drink in hand.
That's got to be some sort of joke site.

Obama needs to appoint a study commission on ways to protect cans in this country. Surely the liberals will not put up with this outrageous abuse to cans. We must legislate massive laws aimed at protecting the harmless can. As Americans we should be ashamed of ourselves.
In fact under existing hate crime laws The Justice Department under Eric Holder could prosecute these abuses as hate crimes. We know he will not protect whites against such abuse but he must do all he can for the can.
Let us remember America the can has not harmed anyone, except for the occassional cut from the lid, but has served us faithfully and honorably and thus deserves our protection in its time of need.

Congratulations, Noel; you have done yeoman's work on this subject!
You've pointed out in at least three separate posts that THERE IS NO NEED TO DEFAULT!!!
The most recent here:
....the Treasury is expecting to take in $172 billion in tax receipts in August.
As the total interest due on our nation's debt will likely not be greater than $35 billion, we will bring in almost five times as much in taxes which means there will not be a debt default.
The Democrats running around with their skirts up over their heads shrieking "Default! Default! Default!" are simply engaging in the only tactic they know: fear.

If Will would write this straightforwardly, he would enjoy more popularity. Awhile back, rather than say something from the 'Crats was a lie or was wrong, he said, "This is meretricious." Too often Will seems to fall in love with his words and, rather than communicate a strong thought, dives in among the nouns and adjectives for the sheer joy of nouning and adjectiving. One remembers, back in the Seventies, when Garry Trudeau in one of his cartoons "solicited" someone to look up obscure quotes for George Will. Though I don't care for Trudeau, he hit that nail on the head.

Submitted by Dave. on Sun, 07/10/2011 - 8:53pm.
...squarely at the "millionaire and billionaire" (right) small business owners should be a big, flamining red flag to everybody in this country as to what the true intentions of these people really are.
Right now, our economy is essentially a crash looking around for a place to happen. It wouldn't take much to send it right over the edge.
And the backbone of said economy is not IBM, GE, GM, or any other mega-bloated corporation, but small business - which happens to be this nation's largest employer.
Even a dullard like Brazile has to know that, as well as know that hitting these businesses with higher taxes in an already frail economy is going to cause a lot of people still employed in small business to lose their jobs, and will cause many to close their doors altogether.
I have friends as well as family members who are small business owners. All of them are struggling at the moment just to survive. Many of their employees are no-longer with them, and a few have actually shut down completely.
I have to believe that most small business owners all across America are in similar fixes.
Obama and his handlers surely know this, too. Why is he so adamant in going after them?
The answer is as obvious as can be to me.

Vote for the American in November
In our local newspaper today....

This was the Letter-to-the-Editor letter of the day.....
--------------
Although fiscal-year starting and ending dates have changed, the changes do not distort data that show the number of years in each period that the national debt increased and decreased:
1791-1799, it increased in five years and decreased in four;
1800-1849, it increased in 18, decreased in 32;
1850-1899, it increased in 23, decreased in 27;
1900-1949, it increased in 34, decreased in 16;
1950-1999, it increased in 48, decreased in two.
2000-2010, it increased in 10; decreased in zero.
Note the trend. Congress authorized spending in excess of incoming revenue for 58 of the past 60 years. It didn't matter which party was in the Oval Office or controlled the House or Senate. The longer this trend continues, the less attractive buying our debt becomes, and investors will eventually go elsewhere.
We're being told the debt ceiling must be raised — that we can't default. If we can't default this year and the spending trend continues, then the ceiling will have to be raised every time it is reached. Defaulting will be inevitable, and the longer it is postponed, the more severe its consequences will be.
Major reductions in spending are required. Politicians never have enough money when their goal is to buy votes. Debt isn't the problem, it's a result — lack of responsible spending is the problem.
Review the voting record of your elected officials. Encourage spenders to become thrifty, and tell them you will work against their re-election unless their voting record improves. Promise your active support to those who vote to control spending. A politician will say anything to get elected or avoid blame. Ignore what they say, scrutinize what they do, evaluate the results, and act accordingly.
