Howard Kurtz Shocked Dick Morris Toes Republican Line
Howard Kurtz didn't have a good Father's Day.
After being shocked that Republicans would actually prefer Obama jokes over those about Republicans, the "Reliable Sources" host expressed dismay that Fox News analyst Dick Morris would actually toe the GOP's line (video follows with transcript and commentary):
HOWARD KURTZ: One question I always ask about commentators on the left and the right is whether we're getting their unvarnished opinion, or are they toeing some kind of party line? Fox News analyst Dick Morris made clear in a radio interview that he'll throw his support to anyone the GOP puts up, or as conservative host Mike Gallagher put it, whoever the Republicans prop up.
(BEGIN AUDIO CLIP)
DICK MORRIS, FOX NEWS POLITICAL ANALYST: I agree so much with that, Mike. I decided a couple of -- a month or two ago to stop jumping on Mitt Romney.
MIKE GALLAGHER, RADIO TALK SHOW HOST: Yes, me too. Me too.
MORRIS: Not because I approve of Romneycare, not because I approve of his flip-flop-flip on abortion, but because I may have to be one of those who carries this guy for a couple of months when he's running against Obama, and I don't want to make my own task harder.
(END AUDIO CLIP)
KURTZ: He may have to carry this guy against Obama. Those are Morris' own words. Talk about falling into line.
Exactly why would this be surprising to a media analyst?
On Kurtz's own network, there are contributors such as Paul Begala and Donna Brazile who do nothing but toe the Democrat Party line every time they're in front of a camera.
Why is it acceptable when they do it on CNN but inappropriate for Morris to do it on Fox?
As I said at the onset, this wasn't one of Kurtz's finer days.

Well, Morris will support a Republican unless he's hired by a Democrat.... :)

You can have him, CNN! He is wrong 100 percent of the time. 100 percent. Senator Lazio? President Gore? The 100-plus seat takeover by the (R) in 2010? Hillary vs. Condi (he wrote a book on it) ? All guaranteed by this know-it-all. I saw an interview with O ' Reilly where Bill said "well you're wrong......wrong again......you're wrong on everything tonight!" and Morris wasn't smiling at the end.

forecasts, but who is? The answer is nobody. Morris brings intelligence and actual on the job experience to his guest appearances on Fox. I'm always interested in what he has to say. Sometimes I hope he's right and sometimes I hope he's wrong, but I do know this: I know that I am going to get good information from him for free that others, in the political world, pay dearly for.
Well, if anyone should be an authority on "toes"

it would be Morris.
http://"Morris managed Bill Clinton's successful 1996 reelection campaign until he was embroiled in a toe-sucking sex scandal with a prostitute. Since then, he has broken ties with the Clintons, and created a cottage industry out of critiquing them in his column in the New York Post and on Fox News.
In the present case, however, I don't know whether to applaud his honesty or denounce his venality.

I saw one online fairly recently. However, even though I'm left-leaning, I am dubious about the accuracy of the results. My recollection is that it ranked Krugman #1.
I'll see if I can track it down tomorrow. Not sure if NB reported on it or not.

Howard Kurtz is a clown. If this guy is trying to sell himself as an objective journalist, then he ought to get tough on the other clowns at CNN and stop trying to convince people like Dick Morris that he should be objective instead of partisan. Kurtz has never been and never will be an objectivie journalist who takes incompetent nitwits like barack obama to the woodshed.
So you don't think Kurtz was being objective

That has to be a joke. He is absolutely clueless. Anybody with any common sense would prefer any Republican running against the absolute worst president we have ever had. Rush said it best. "Elmer Fudd" would make a better president than Obama.
Yeah....excellent show.

Kurtz is right, unfortunately. Morris run a firm that gets people elected. The higher profile the politician, the more fees and the more prestige is garnered by his firm. He knows like we all do that this moderate Republicon, Romney, is the front runner. Morris doesn't want to do anything that might piss him off. He figures, that if this is the annoited one for the Republicons, that he just might get some business thrown his way.
Meanwhile, how are the Republicons that we elected to the House in November 2010 doing in regard to that engrossing topic, the debt ceiling and the 2012 budget aka "Debts of our lives" soap opera? In the most expected outcome possible, the "best hypocritical actor" Oscar winners known as Republicons have caved and according to chief Senate republican sock puppet Mitch McConnell "Congress and the White House could raise the debt limit for a few months while they seek a comprehensive, long-term budget deal." Of course, when the $300 billion or so "temporary" hike which will last the US government for just under two months, we will get another temporary extension, and then another, and so forth, until the current batch of Oscar winners is voted out en masse yet again, only to be replaced with another set of sock puppets, and the posturing and the drama, not to mention the comedy, can begin anew. Luckily the G-Fund will at least get a temporary reprieve until its is plundered again, some time in late August, early September, when the debt ceiling is breached again, and an unmanageable debt load has been resolved through... the issuance of more debt.

I was listening to the TV yesterday or Saturday and I cannot name the show, but it was FOX.
There was a woman on who looked rather battle hardened and prissy (I think she was an old school establishment Republican - you know the type who despised Reagan but was happy they won).
Her point made several times was that Romney was 'sound'. He was 'solid'.
My instinct told me that she meant, Romney was acceptable to the Establishment.
Sorta like McCain?
Here's the deal. Romney is not a Conservative Republican in the new sense of the word meaning smaller government, less taxes and less power over people's lives.
Romney is a 'deal maker' who will not tackle the real issue of dismantling the Great Society; the redefinition of Government's role in society and the preservation of the individual's freedoms to pursue happiness in America.
Romney might well be another candidate for whom we hold our noses and vote into office; but he will never be 'my' candidate.
I don't like him. I actually never have liked him. And I believe that Donald Duck could beat Obama in 2012 - we do not have to like him nor do we have to nominate him.

We need to recognize the Republican Party is composed of two camps and has been since the Goldwater years.
Romney is likely to win because Conservatives are splintered supporting their own various candidates. The establishment candidates will always prevail when the Conservatives keep chasing dreams and wishes as if the Conservatives are the only consideration. If Perry gets in it gets even more hopeless. We need fewer Conservative candidates not more. In fact we need one good one and then we would have a chance.
What we are doing now is having a primary within a primary. We are having a contest to see who will be the Conservative favorite but in the meantime we are actually in the Republican primary and by the time the Conservative candidate is decided on the primaries are over and the establishment candidate has won.

Has always struck me as just another self-promoting D-bag much of the time, like Newt or anyone else getting regular pay as a consultant. He goes which way the wind blows. Since he is on FOX he plays to the audiance much of the time. But he does know a lot about how things work inside the beltway. He has certainly become a lot less partisan since he was thrown under the bus way back when. Toe sucking hookers? Yeah, pretty freaky. But he was not elected and compare that to Clintons antics.
Sadly he's right

The sad, hard fact is that anyone who supports a Mormon fool like Romney is a treasonous antiAmeircan bigot. If most people weren't incompetent historical and especially Biblically illiterate incompetents they'd know that no responsible American who knows the Christian nation our Founders founded can do anything but oppose him, but in view of that rank, gross illiteracy and incompetence, he may well be approved, which is why I'm too intelligent to be in the GOP, rather I'm a thinking and informed, independent Protestant Christian under God the Founders wanted versus political parties that were a later and regrettable accretion that has only harmed the Christian land they founded.
