Kurtz Tells WaPo's Milbank 'You're Just Annoyed Because Breitbart' Got Credit For Weinergate

The Andrew Breitbart-hating media certainly got its comeuppance Monday when Congressman Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) finally admitted that he had indeed been sending lewd pictures to young women via his Twitter account.

Sensing that he was seated with one such press member, CNN's Howard Kurtz on Sunday's "Reliable Sources" told a mopey Dana Milbank of the Washington Post, "You're just annoyed because Breitbart, who doesn't like the liberal media, has actually gotten some credit on this story" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

HOWARD KURTZ, HOST: But coming back to Breitbart, I've been critical of him in some other contexts, the Shirley Sherrod story for one. But on this story, did he do anything wrong?

AMY HOLMES, AMERICA's RADIO NEWS NETWORK: I don't think he did. I think he went with the news. And clearly, the story blew up.

DANA MILBANK, WASHINGTON POST: Up to the point where he apparently was showing this picture to Opie and Anthony.

KURTZ: Oh, he was, because I've seen the video.

MILBANK: Right. So --

KURTZ: And let's just explain to people, Opie and Anthony have a satellite radio show, kind of a raunchy show. And Breitbart, who made a great point of saying he was not going to release this -- you know, it's a naked picture of Weiner below the waist -- was showing it around in sort of a frat room atmosphere.

Now, I take Breitbart at his word that he didn't know that somebody on the Opie and Anthony set was going to snap a picture of the picture.

MILBANK: Well, then he's never been involved in that show before, because that's just the sort of thing that they do there. So I just don't buy that at all.

HOLMES: Actually, one of the co-hosts was not pleased that this photo was put up.

MILBANK: That was a way of getting it out there and letting people know that it's out there without doing it.

KURTZ: You're just annoyed because Breitbart, who doesn't like the liberal media, has actually gotten some credit on this story.

MILBANK: No, no. I think up until that point, it was right on. I think that was completely over the top.

No, what Milbank thinks was completely over the top is that organizations like his were once again scooped by a conservative new media outlet. Fortunately for him, he's in good company.

On the other hand, it was nice to see Howie point out what was likely obvious to every conservative watching his program.

Of course, Milbank wouldn't have been at all annoyed if Weiner had an "R" next to his name, and his paper probably wouldn't have been so slow in covering his misdeeds.

But that goes without saying, doesn't it?

Big whiney baby Liberal. Breitbart got the story and Milbank didn't and can't believe his hero Wennie did such perverted wierd things. Milbank never admits radical Libs do anything wrong even when proven other-wise. Cry Baby Cry

I listened to the replay of the O&A segment

Submitted by bkeyser on Sun, 06/12/2011 - 7:25pm.

as well as the live episode the next day in which Opie discussed his role in the release of the picture and Jim Norton's explanation regarding his assertion that no cameras would see AB's phone. Everyone in the studio was unanimous in believing AB did not want the picture released. They also weren't aware that the picture had been caught by one of the cameras, and it was an internet viewer that screen-capped the video which showed the image on AB's phone.

Milbank, who surely was aware of all this information, is obviously dismayed that Weiner got caught, and is probably praying he hangs on to his seat. By saying AB was genuine up until the O&A show but went over the top by appearing, Milbank comes off like a jealous and scorned ex-girlfriend. This stiff neck thing just emphasizes it.

I think Breitbart was full of it when he said he wouldn't release the photo because he wanted to spare the family.

Oh, like you spare the family of those murdered police officers?

Submitted by The Vet on Mon, 06/13/2011 - 3:58pm.

Just like when you spare those family members when you come here and tell us their fathers/brothers/husband's killer is now innocent because you read a story where they proclaim their innocence and that is enough to convince you to set them free?

Why don't YOU spare us cop killer lover.

Your heroes are being hoisted upon their own petards one by one, and you still maintain some vague conspiratorial notions? No wonder you are going down with the dinosaur media! The political comet that is the internet is destroying these outmoded denizens quicker than anything.

I didn't know that

Submitted by hbnolikeee on Sun, 06/12/2011 - 8:29pm.

milly could read minds and tell us what someone meant by their action.

More amazing, is that somehow not every having been on that show somehow validates milly's notion that Brietbart should have known better. Isn't that backwards logic, or just the usual liberal two step. He hadn't been on the show somehow that means he expected the photo to be snapped?! Huh?

Future Pulitzer for Breitbart.

Submitted by big.league.slider on Sun, 06/12/2011 - 9:31pm.

If Breitbart were to offer a weekly printed newsletter (via .pdf maybe?), we could nominate him for a Pulitzer Prize for these wonderful investigative exposés he is becoming so good at.

Pulitzer? Bah!

That's OLD MEDIA.

We need (*ahem, paging Mr. Bozell!) a NEW MEDIA award for truth in journalism.

First to be awarded to Andrew Breitbart.

We should call it the BREITBART. Award it to Andrew first, and then make it the MOST prestigious award in journalism.

JOURNOLISTERS not eligible.

"once again scooped by a conservative news media outlet..."

That is what's driving them crazy. It proves that they don't look into the lives of liberals, they are too busy recruiting help to find some gaffe in thousands of Sarah Palins email. And then run it as "breaking news" 24/7 for as long as it takes to drive down poll numbers.

Milbank is a Libtard...Duh!

Submitted by JoelinPDX on Mon, 06/13/2011 - 12:34pm.

This mindset coming from Milbank is a surprise? If you read any of the crap that Milbank writes at WaPo then you know he's a libtard through and through. This kind of comment comes as no surprise.
