Janeane Garofalo: Weinergate Isn't Weiner's Fault - It's the Media and 'Hypocrite Republicans'

By Noel Sheppard | June 11, 2011 | 11:08

Noel Sheppard's picture

Liberal lunatic Janeane Garofalo doesn't think Congressman Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) is responsible for the sex scandal that is currently threatening his career.

Appearing on HBO's "Real Time," the so-called comedian and actress claimed Weinergate is caused by the media and "hypocrite Republicans" (video follows with transcript and commentary, vulgarity warning):

SHARON WAXMAN, EDITOR THE WRAP: Yeah, but you can't talk about Anthony Weiner with your kids. You can’t talk about him at the dinner table. I mean, at some point…

JANEANE GAROFALO: What?

WAXMAN: Yeah, I mean, I couldn't talk about what was going on in the news what I spent my day doing this week at the dinner table. It was X-rated.

GAROFALO: That’s not his fault.

WAXMAN: That’s not his fault?

GAROFALO: We can talk about the things he's fought for. I would say the distraction that’s created is by a media that’s overly-obsessed with this stuff because it's easier than doing the hard stuff of their job.

[APPLAUSE]

WAXMAN: Mostly I agree with you. Mostly I agree with you. In the Clinton scandal I agree with you. In this case Anthony Weiner did this to himself.

GAROFALO: No, no, no.

BILL MAHER, HOST: I agree, I would like him to stay, too, but I have to agree with you that, like, I cannot look at him now. Whatever he’s saying, “Medicare for all,” I've seen your dick.

GAROFALO: That's not his fault.

MAHER: That’s all…

GAROFALO: That’s not his fault. And you actually technically haven't seen his, his…

MAHER: Oh, yes we have.

GAROFALO: In his underwear, right?

MAHER: No, no. The one this week. I've seen his picture too much.

GAROFALO: Either way, that doesn’t, if the media and the hypocrite Republicans didn't keep this going pretending the American people want it, it wouldn't be something you have to discuss with, and I'm sure you don’t discuss Anthony Weiner with your kids at the table anyway, even before this.

WAXMAN: That's not true.

You really have to wonder what the color of the sky is in this woman's world.

A Congressman sends pictures of his crotch to young women on the internet he's never met, then lies to the press about it, and the resulting scandal is all because the media and "hypocrite Republicans" are drawing attention to it.

Exactly why is such a person invited on a natonally-televised political talk show to discuss important issues of the day?

She's retarded and deranged. That happens when you are a homely woman with a sour personality and have to pay for masculine attention. Sexual furstration is a powerful motivator.

I'm sure she can find male companionship on the left, but pull down the pants of a "Ken" doll and you will see her problem!

It's just as well if she reproduced it would only extend the evolutionary dead end!

The effectiveness with which

Submitted by gvii on Sat, 06/11/2011 - 10:45pm.

The effectiveness with which that sentence forms an image in one's mind is absolutely amazing. And I agree with you 100 percent.

I cannot say I'm surprised. While I don't think she is actually stupid, she is clearly a bats**t liberal loon, so blinded by her progressive indoctrination that she cannot see the blaring hypocrisy she throws out with her "take" on the issue. The very same take in which she refers to those she does not agree with as "hypocrites". But it's just another log on her personal little bonfire of buffoonery.

I guess one clearly can go through life without any use of the logical portion of the brain. Wish I could spend a day completely disconnected from reality. I'd have no desire to stay that way, but it might be fun for a day. Or maybe just an hour. Ok, a minute. Oh forget it, I wouldn't last 30 seconds in that mindset. All that blatant ignorance and effort to maintain that facade of perpetual self-loathing in the name of Gaia and whatnot, just doesn't sound even remotely appealing to me. I actually take some pride and joy in earning a living and providing for my family the old fashioned way, instead of demanding it from someone else for no other reason than that they happen to be better off than I am.

Stupid? Probably not. BPD subtype? Definitely.

Submitted by drsamherman on Sun, 06/12/2011 - 4:58pm.

BPD is an acronym for borderline personality disorder, comprising a family of mental diseases for which there are no effective drug therapies. They are called "Axis II" diagnoses, and they usually accompany the primary mood, cognitive and dissociative disorders in parallel fashion.

In Janeane's case, she seems to crave the attention that comes with making outrageous and false statements with a high shock value. She is intelligent enough to do this at a time when her popularity is sinking (e.g. the cancellation of her show) and when her own name is not in print at the time. Same goes with other Z-listers who display similar behaviors.

There was a session at a past American Psychiatric Association that examined this behavioral pattern among failing and fading celebrities. The common loci of symptoms was striking. Janeane's behavior is classic for this.

Blame the Republicans again?

Submitted by jon_torlin on Sat, 06/11/2011 - 11:24am.

Funny, I thought it was the woman that approached Brietbart about Weiner.  So whenever someone comes forth to expose (poor choice of words, I know) something, the automatic reaction is to blame the Republicans, just like the Giffords shooting.

Never one for original thought, eh?

This is the liberal extreme

Submitted by c5then on Sat, 06/11/2011 - 11:29am.

Anything a liberal does, including breaking the law and then lying about it and covering it up, is OK because it's not their fault it is the eeeevil Republican's fault.

Wiener sent text messages to a 17 year old. HE says they were not "explicit". How can anyone trust him? He lied about even doing it at first. I hope the police and the FBI are investigating in a non-biased manner. Any other married 40 year-old who did this would be arraigned on charges and looking at divorce papers right now.

IMO this is at least an order of magnitude worse than what Elliot Spitzer did.

Big surprise

Submitted by jon_torlin on Sat, 06/11/2011 - 11:54am.

Imagine my HUGE surprise when SanFranNan said he didn't have to resign.  Of course she chalked it up to the "individual member" (her words, what a choice of words) and the people of his district to decide that.  Going by that, considering the Congressmen and Senators from NY, fat chance of that.

I have become a fan of the original Criminal Minds over the past couple years and I was looking forward to this spinoff. I didn't find out that Janeane Garofalo until it was close to going on the air. As soon as I heard that I refused to watch it and I'm glad it failed. If you go to IMDB you'll see lots of anti-Garofalo threads so I hope her presence was a significant part in its failure.

Count me as another who wouldn't watch the show because of her. I love Criminal Minds (well, the last season was starting to get annoying) but I would not watch this spin-off specifically because that lunatic was in it.

I may be just one person, but apparently there were enough of us "just one persons" who felt the same and let the system work as intended, without any organized protests. Show canceled. The voice of the people.

Quibble with the great great great Mr. Sheppard whom we all love

Submitted by The Vet on Sat, 06/11/2011 - 11:58am.

Representative Weiner did not just send a picture to a girl. He sent it to the public. Out there for all to see.

Had Weiner properly sent the tweet as a direct message to Cordova, he would have had to type “D GennetteC  [picture].” Instead, Weiner typed “@GennetteC [picture].”

Unless the direct message syntax is perfectly formed, it becomes a public tweet. People are people, and they make mistakes, and your private message suddenly becomes public.

Another aspect of this story is that in order to send someone a direct message on Twitter, they must follow you. As ABC News and other outlets noted last week, of the few people Weiner follows on Twitter, a number of them are young women, like Cordova. So in order for Weiner to have private, back-and-forth conversations with these women on Twitter, they had to have been followed by him.

Another privacy issue is the fact that Weiner used yFrog to share the photos. While he could have uploaded the photo to yFrog and only included it in a (successful) direct message, the photo would still be public. That’s because yFrog (and other popular Twitter photo-sharing services, like Twitpic, for that matter) display photos in a timeline format. So anyone who ventured to this site (before Weiner deleted all of his photos) could have simply clicked through and seen all the photos he uploaded, regardless of whether or not they were publicly tweeted.

As Weiner learned the hard way, nothing is truly private on Twitter.

He still to this day has to be kicking himself. Accidentally typing @ instead of D. What a silly wasteful way to trash your career.

Logic, Simple Logic

Submitted by Samaritan01 on Sat, 06/11/2011 - 11:54am.

The thought processes of these leftists are so screwed-up I doubt if they can ever get unscrewed. They want to rule the world and they can't rule simple logic.

Anthony Weiner is NOT responsible for his own acts but the Republicans, who had nothing to do with Weinergate, ARE responsible???

This is what passes for intellect in their new Utopia.

It is stunningly clear that if the Left wins our current political debate our nation, perhaps the world, enters a new intellectual dark-age. Soon the Left will be reading the entrails of sheep for political advice.....

J. Garofalo delivers herself in a stale, pathetic, revolting, excrementulous kind of way in front of the camera. I wondered how long it was going to take to cancel that "FBI" she managed to infiltrate.

What difference does it really make? These politicians circle the wagons for their own. They will pay Weiner off for stepping down and "protecting the party", just like they did for Spitzer.

There is nothing that can permanently destroy a liberal. They have no shame when they are caught - just excuses. They believe their own lies, so as soon as they can, they bounce back and don't worry even a little bit about what others think. It's pathological.

In the 60's when I was in college the hippie movement started and was originally a delightful expression of youthful joy thumbing their nose at what was seen as a repressive 50's conservative society. Sex, drugs and rock and roll and protesting against a war that was foisted on us by the French and the domino theory of Communism. The hippies loved flowers and nature and the environmental movement came out of that.

It evolved over time into factions; some of which were violent and angry. Some factions, like the weathermen and SDS and folks like Bill Ayers, had political agendas that came out of their communist or socialist political philosophies. Many of these went into education and have spent the intervening decades indoctrinating school children. They became community organizers and environmentalists.

So, today, we have many younger people who grew up believing in what are essentially communal, socialist ideals and hating Republicans in an almost genetic sense. No thinking. No critical analysis. Just blind, gut level hatred and the absolute knowledge that they are in the right. That their beliefs are those of smart, enlightened people. All other views. Anything that suggests there is a different, but equally "good" way to do something, such as any Republican or conservative proposal, is anathema to them.

It is impossible for Garofalo to actually think. She can only repeat her beliefs. She and the millions of other progressives. They are going to take away everything from the wealthy, smart, hard working people and share it communally, a la Paul Goodman, with the poor and downtrodden. If not stopped and now, they will turn our country into a Euro-socialist-1950's cesspool that will take decades to recover from. They cannot reflect on what happened in Russia, England, France, Germany, or wherever, and see that it doesn't work. While Europe has begun to recover from the socialist hangover, and is taking tentative steps to unwind the devastation of their past 50 years, our progressive, self-described elites are trying to jam this 60's political system down our country's throat. Never mind that the entitlement classes are laughing at them and us and happily spending our hard-earned money on $400 gym shoes and drugs and plasma screens in the projects.

Garofalo is just another example of the extreme sickness of being a hippie when there is no reason for it. No Vietnam. No repression. Sex is everywhere. Anyone can do or think whatever they believe. We have a cleaner and safer environment. On and on. But these modern day hippies act like America has become worse instead of better.

Then, we were affluent and could try anything. Do anything. We did, but we largely wasted our time and vast sums on money on ill-thought-out programs, like affirmative action and diversity goals and welfare and more poor education by the same idiot progressive educators whose tenured insanity combined with taking control of child rearing away from the parents and giving it to the "state" in the form of the educators and regulations has led us here.

Last stand time or we get what we truly deserve.

The malcontents never did mature. I shook out of the hippie thing in '71, but didn't lose all my liberalism until I was in my early thirties. The late '60's marked a steep decline in America's principles. I can't see how we'll ever recover at this point. That is especially true when brain damaged people like Garafalo manage to find a camera to spout their swill so frequently. -bidn-

Unfortunately, I think we're in the penalty box...

Submitted by gmonsen on Sun, 06/12/2011 - 8:11am.

I think there is a chance that a GOP presidential win next, but it will be a battle and even a win might not be enough, if its the wrong person. I have worried that Palin was - was not - was the right or wrong candidate to win or govern. I had wanted Paul Ryan and many like Christy. But, I have to say, that my biggest concern is traditional core American values and character, and I have now decided that win or lose, I want Palin, because she is all about values. She is what she seems to be. She's not a traditional politician, which I hold in the lowest regard. So, I have made my bed and am lying in it. :) G

Liberalism 101

Submitted by Maestroh on Sat, 06/11/2011 - 3:58pm.

1) People are inherently liberals; the conservatives are all genetic defects.

2) Anything a conservative does is proof how evil he (she or it) is; anything a liberal does wrong is still the conservative's fault.

I was on CARM yesterday and some atheistic/agnostic person is actually blaming the GOP because the Democrats didn't cut taxes on the middle class. That's my point: whenever a liberal fails it is SOMEBODY ELSE'S fault!!!

Election losses:
Hubert Humphrey? Nixon ran a racist campaign
George McGovern? Watergate
Jimmy Carter? Reagan cut a secret deal with Iran to hold the hostages
Walter Mondale? Reagan was a cartoon character
Mike Duakkis? Bush ran a racist ad against him
Al Gore? Bush stole the election
John Kerry? Bush stole the election and went AWOL, the Swift Boaters lied

My goodness, they're blaming the economy on Bush AND their lack of adequate growth ALSO on Bush. What a bunch of hog nursing morons.

Well, she obviously made the wrong decision. She should have kept the overly large breasts and had mouth reduction surgery instead.

I went to Jiffy lube one time-one time was it. It cost me $240 before they were done. I went to Carolina Quick Lube last week for an oil change and inspection. I had to have new wiper blades in order to pass the inspection but I knew that before the inspection. Total for all was $122. I  told the guy how Jiffy Lube had ripped me off. He told me he wished he had a dollar for every time a customer told him that.

NPR on Political Zombies

Submitted by sherlock1 on Sat, 06/11/2011 - 7:23pm.

NPR ran an item this morning on "political zombies" - members of Congress who were ensnared in scandals and tried to keep their careers afloat. Three categories were mentioned:

1. Zombies who got into trouble but stayed on for a long time: All Democrats, all major criminal or potentially criminal stuff.

2. Zombies who tried to and succeeded in hanging on for a little while, at least until the next election: All democrats except one, mostly criminal or potentially criminal stuff.

3. Those in whom zombism never took hold, and they were promptly ejected, usually by their own party: All Republicans, mostly immorality / infidelity stuff.

Now isn't that an interesting breakdown? The unpunished are all Democrats, and they are guilty of the worst crimes, such as manslaughter, corruption, tax fraud. The punished are almost all Republicans, and guilty of the lesser, personal-failings type of misbehaviors.

It's almost like there is some insitution helping Democrats evade paying the piper when they commit crimes, even damn serious ones. I wonder what it could be... say, wouldn't it be ironic if this force was actually one that pretended to be politically neutral, and pretended to be protecting the public, while actually working overtime to protect Democrats?!

ps. My theory on the real reason this showed up when it did: to promote the narrative "See everyone does it and many of them end up getting away with it, so it's okay if Weiner does too, especially since he's a Democrat."

How do liberals live with themselves? Being so far from reality must be what is producing this anger. But in her world, that isn't her fault either. The wakeup call will be huge one day.
Which station is she watching where the Republicans are able to determine what gets covered? Why have they not been able to get this much coverage for all of the other bad things and bad policy the Dems do and produce? If we were controlling what is broadcast, there would be far fewer Democrats elected. As reality is, we get ignored or ridiculed for bringing up all of the wrong they do.

Contrast this with republican misbehavior, and it appears they needlessly resign immediately after their shenanigans are exposed when all they would have needed was a little rehab.

"Pursues counseling." That

Submitted by gvii on Sun, 06/12/2011 - 1:16am.

"Pursues counseling." That just kills me every time one of these idiots in the public eye get caught doing something colossally stupid. It's some kind of disease!!! And it can be cured by spending an hour a week on a couch talking to some stranger for several hundred bucks a session!!! A couple months of that, and he'll be better than before, you'll see! Like nothing ever happened.

Never mind that all it really is is yet another shining example of what happens when you have an individual that hides his apparently deep rooted self-esteem issues with an overbearing, loud mouthed, in-your-face style facade of an ego, and you give him a little power mixed with an overabundance of publicity and let him loose on the world. Just another jackass with a terminal case of little-big man syndrome who inevitably ends up using the influence he was gifted for the purpose of bettering the lives of the people he works for to fulfill some hidden and unmentionable fantasy.

I have no doubt that the temptation is very real, and very powerful, even to someone without the above mentioned little-big man syndrome. But you would think that in light of all the similar scandals that have occurred over the last several years, heck, decades even, that at least a few mental warning buzzers would blare in regards to the potentially career-annihilating disasters that are a very real possibility. Never mind the blatant stupidity of consciously deciding to pursue said fantasy over the internet, a system that not only provides anyone the ability to keep a constant eye on you with less physical and financial effort than it takes to drive to the corner store for a 6-pack of beer, but one that has an inherent complexity that makes it virtually impossible to erase, and monumentally difficult to conceal any activities you'd prefer to keep to yourself.

I have no doubt that the whole situation is absolutely crushing in terms of emotional stress. I can't say with 100 percent certainty how I would deal with it, or if I even could. But he earned it, lock, stock, and barrel. And I do feel for his wife who received a double pile of crap to deal with. One pile being the over-spray that inevitably comes with being the spouse of a public figure in the midst of a self-induced scandal, the other pile being the realization that the person you swore to share the rest of your life with, and the unborn child that sets in stone your lifelong involvement(Regardless of your present or future feelings on the matter) with said person, is also the person who was enjoying extremely intimate conversations, picture trading, and other situations best left unsaid, for most/all of the pre-commitment but exclusive portion of your relationship, and for the entirety of your post-vow relationship.

In the end, we all know the truth of the matter. Even though he stood on that stage with tears running down his face and his voice cracking while apologizing profusely for making a series of bad decisions that have hurt all those around him, you know full well that he's just like every other dirtbag politician who decided try to conceal epic stupidity. Like all those before him, their regrets are not their decision to allow their hormones to burden everyone around them as well as commit career-icide, only that they got caught. And even if the miserable little jackass actually told the truth when he said he never met with anyone in his virtual harem, you know full well it was only a matter of time before things progressed beyond messaging, picture trading, and phone calls. Considering the voracity and venom with which he spewed his massive lies and false accusations in an panicky attempt to avoid taking any responsibility for the s**tstorm he brought on himself, I find it difficult to take his word that he hadn't already met with someone face to face. If he did, the evidence will eventually burble up to the surface now that the water is boiling around him, barring some miraculous stroke of luck or careful planning. Needless to say, no one can seriously claim objectivity while taking him at his word. Any credibility he may have had vaporized faster than a nickel in the pocket of a 7 year old in arms reach of a gumball machine.
