Bob Schieffer Asks Haley Barbour 'Could You Ever Envision Supporting a Ticket With Palin on Top?'
As no clear frontrunner emerges in the Republican presidential nomination race, the liberal media are in a full-scale panic over the thought that the former governor of Alaska might eventually enter and challenge their beloved president in November 2012.
On Sunday, "Face the Nation's" Bob Schieffer asked Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour with some incredulity, "Could you ever envision yourself supporting a ticket that had Sarah Palin at the top?" (video follows with transcript and commentary):
BOB SCHIEFFER, HOST: Well, what about Sarah Palin? You say she-- you don’t know what she’s going to do. If she did get in, could you ever envision yourself supporting a ticket that had Sarah Palin at the top?
MISSISSIPPI GOVERNOR HALEY BARBOUR: If Barack Obama was the head of the other ticket, I could. There’s no question about that. I mean, we look at the Obama policies. He wants to raise taxes when raises taxes would hurt the economy. When in fact, what we need in our country is economic growth and job creation. He pays lip service to that but his policies hurt that. Obamacare makes it harder to hire people. How do you hire people, Bob, if you don’t know what your obligations and costs are going to be for health care.
All this government spending, bigger government means a smaller economy. When government is sucking trillions of dollars out of the economy, there is no money on Main Street. I can tell you that. Wall Street may be doing all right but there’s no money on Main Street. That’s where the jobs come from. So policy after policy after policy makes it harder to create jobs and grow the economy in the Obama administration.
What was particularly hypocritical about Schieffer's question was that in the following segment, while interviewing former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), the host repeatedly challenged his guest about the awful state of the economy and that Obama's had almost two and a half years to fix it without any success.
Irrespective of who the Republicans nominate, the fact of the matter is Obama has failed to solve the nation's economic woes and Americans are very displeased. A just-released Newsweek/Daily Beast poll perfectly illustrated this:
By almost four to one, Americans say our economy is not delivering the jobs we need, 81 percent to 12 percent.
And Obama isn't helping. 50 percent of respondents think the president has no real plan to balance the budget; 40 percent say he does. [...]
Over half (52 percent) say their personal economic situation makes them nervous. Forty eight percent say it makes them anxious, 44 percent say it makes them upset, and 30 percent say it makes them angry.
These are serious headwinds for an incumbent president regardless of what opponent he'll face in seventeen months.
Yet all the media want to talk about is Sarah Palin, someone who most political observers don't believe will ever enter the race.
She's got to be laughing all the way to the bank.

Methinks the libs protest too much against Palin! They're tipping their slimy little hand early showing Palin is the real candidate they truly fear. (I'm undecided at this point but would sell a kidney to have Allen West run!)
I don't know why Haley Barbour gets so much attention from the propaganda media. I get the feeling it's pretty much the same reason Juan McPain and his annoying daughter get invited so often!

IF Palin is the nominee and wins the Whitehouse she will most assuredly bring with her a Republican Congress. That Congress would most likely not only erase the obama years as if he had never been elected but because of the economic situation we face many Liberal programs we can no longer afford will be eliminated also. We have a historic opportunity to reverse 60 years of creeping Liberalism.

What a ridiculous question to ask a Republican. Anybody who has been remotely referred to as a GOP contender would be significantly better than another 4 years of Obama (and any Republican who disagrees is in the wrong party to begin with).

Sometimes we have to settle for the less of two bad choices. Although I hope we nominate a conservative who is articulate and who can arouse enthusiasm, I will vote for the Republican nominee whoever he or she is, including a RINO. Four more years of Barack Obama and his socialist redistribution policies is a nonstarter.

The last election, I was disheartened to read that many commentators here said that McCain would be just as bad or almost as bad as Obama. Some even went as far to advance the foggy notion that it was preferable to have Obama win because his disastrous policies would clear the way for a "true conservative" to be elected in 2012. For me, that was jaw-dropping insane idea. To suffer economic disaster for four long years, on the dubious chance that an outraged electorate would carry a conservative hero into the White House on their backs to the cheers of the country.
I'm not and never have been a big fan of John McCain, but there is no way possible on the face of God's green earth that he would have done the damage that Obama has done. He may not be as conservative as we would like on many issues, but he wouldn't have laid the groundwork for a permanent liberal base in government like Obama has been busy doing - like ObamaCare. Obama is putting into place policies and bureaucracies that any future conservative president and congress will have a hard time rooting out. Not to mention that a President McCain would not have very likely exploded the deficit and debt like Obama has.
Anyone who says that even a wobbly conservative or a moderate conservative will be "just as bad" as a liberal Democrat is speaking more out of frustration and anger than reasonable thought. It's almost a political mob mentality.
That said, I do not want the GOP to nominate anyone less than a principled, consistent, and articulate conservative this time. However, at this point on the liberal road to even greater disasters, I will take any Republican who can beat Obama. Except for Lindsay Graham - I despise Lindsay Graham.

election, I also remember a number of posters here and at other right-leaning websites who were adamant that voting for RINO McCain was no different than having Obama as President. I suspect many of them voted for a third party candidate or stayed home.
What surprises me is that by the time of the 2008 election, there was enough information out there regarding Barack Obama to know he would be, if elected, the most Leftist agenda driven and possibly the least experienced President we have ever had. Obama's friendship and association with Reverend Jeremiah Wright, terrorists Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn and racketeer Tony Rezko were known before we entered the voting booth. Moreover, Obama clearly outlined his socialist agenda when he talked to Joe the Plumber about "spreading the wealth." How anyone on the Right could have abdicated their responsibility to vote for the least harmful candidate is beyond my understanding.
Every Republican candidate has some position, principle or foible we disagree with. A perfect example is my favorite Republican potential non-running candidate, Chris Christy. I was flabbergasted when he said:
But I would support and vote for Christy in a heartbeat, because he could beat Barack Obama. We MUST take back The White House in 2012! Hopefully, those on our side who refuse to vote for a RINO or someone who doesn't meet their standard, will come to understand that FOUR MORE YEARS of Obama's agenda will be disastrous and potentially irreversible.
As for not voting for Lindsey Graham for President, why would you? Isn't Lindsey Graham a Democrat? :-)
No zero for four more years
Submitted by apodoca on Sun, 06/05/2011 - 11:49pm.
No, I don't want Obama for four more years. However, if we run a RINO, that's what we'll get because the RINO cannot and will not articulate ideas and policy positions that are significantly different from Obama's. Even if they talk the talk and sucker us, they'll not walk the walk. All the RINO's do is let the Democrats set the agenda and they follow along. So, if it's the Democrats agenda, then what are we stuck with but "Obama and his socialist redistribution policies" coming from a GOP source?
I'm a fed up Rush fan.

I'm about with Apodoca. Several candidates are Obama lite. You get the same thing. It just takes longer.
It's been pointed out. As bad as Obama is there are 2 things good about him. He keeps the republicans unified. And the democrats get the blame.
Does it really matter if it's Obamacare or Romneycare? If it's Obamas EPA running out of control or a republicans? I want the federal government to get out the way of fixing these damned problems, including keeping us dependent on oil produced by enemies, we should be an energy exporter. I want lawyers out of the military command centers. I want the federal goverment out of my car, out of telling me what kind of toilet I can buy, or light bulb. I want them out of the doctors office. And TSA out of my crotch. The government is supposed to be our servant. Not our master.
To do that. We need someone with gutts and conviction. And someone who's fed up. Not a politician who wants the power and status, a notch on their belt or a great resume.
It's hard to vote for someone or a party you don't respect. Republicans....

"If Barack Obama was the head of the other ticket, I could," quoth Haley Barbour.
IOW, if the Democrats had someone else at the head of the ticket, HB could get behind that person instead of Palin.
"Could" is the language of future uncertain possibilities rather than assertive certainties. So, Haley Barbour is letting us know he's not a GOP man ... unless the candidate is a RINO, rather than the rock solid Conservative, Palin, who will beat Obama handily.
It is disgraceful that HB would not clearly assert that he "will" support Palin if she's the GOP candidate. Barbour's language leaves open the possibility of typical RINO backstabbing of Conservatives. When the Conservative wins, the RINO's decamp and badmouth them. We saw it in Delaware and elsewhere, and come 2012, we're gonna see it all over.

current economic conditions. Don't place the blame on Nobel Prize Winner and savior President Barack Hussein Obama. It is NOT OBAMA's FAULT! Doesn't the word "inherited" mean anything to you Conservatives and Republicans?
That is, if you believe this CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll. The poll, conducted April 29-May 1, indicates that 55% of Americans say that former President George W. Bush and the Republicans are more responsible for current economic problems than Obama.
Expect CNN to produce an updated poll that shows that the majority of Americans believe that Sarah Palin and Paul Ryan are responsible for current economic conditions.

As was pointed out by a few commentators, if you take the votes for Corwin(R) and Davis(Fake), Hochul would have lost. It was smart politics on the part of the dems to run Davis as a fake Tea Partier. As it was, Hochul did NOT garner a majority of the votes in NY-26.
And, if Corwin had gone out and actually campaigned, and fought, she may have convinced the 9,400+ people who couldn't discern what Davis was, to vote for her. Davis ran in '04, '06, and '08 as a Dem. This time, because of NY's election laws, he registered as a Tea Party candidate, and some who voted for him, obviously weren't awake.

IT does show the liberal talk show hosts for what they are. THey believe people don't want a Sarah Palin as President so, by asking that question, they try to paint people in a corner. I'd love to see someone come back and say, "Of course I'd support Sarah Palin she couldn't do any worse than Obama and, more than likely, would do considerably better since her grounding in economic principles is much better than his."
