Liberal Commentator on Palin's Media Disdain: 'Refreshing to See Someone Say Screw You to People Who Treat Her Like Garbage'

The gang at "Fox News Watch" had some very interesting things to say about how media members who absolutely despise former Alaska governor Sarah Palin just can't get enough of her "One Nation" bus tour.

The best line came from liberal commentator Kirsten Powers who said of the former vice presidential candidatee, "It’s actually kind of refreshing to see somebody who just says screw you to these people who treat her like garbage" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

JON SCOTT, HOST: Sarah Palin going on the record there with Greta Van Susteren. The Palin family is on the “One Nation” tour of historical sites, and the media trying to keep up with her along the way. So Judy, what do you think, is she just toying with the media here?

JUDY MILLER, FOX NEWS CHANNEL: I think she is having a wonderful time with, turning us in to paparazzi as one commentator noted. You know, the other thing that strikes me about Sarah Palin is how much the media, some in the media really do hate her. I mean, the commentary, Gloria Borger saying, “Okay, get on with it already and stop tweeting trying to tweet your way into relevance.” I mean, there’ve been some really, really nasty comments about her.

SCOTT: There have been some nice ones, too, like this one from Michelle Malkin who wrote this week: “In the 1970s, “The Boys on the Bus” exposed how a clubby pack of male political reporters ruled the road to the White House and shaped the news. Four decades later an outsider gal from Alaska has commandeered the 2012 media bus and left beltway journalism insiders eating her dust. We have come a long way, baby." Does that sum it up?

KIRSTEN POWERS, NEW YORK POST: Yeah, but I don’t think it’s that surprising that Michelle Malkin is saying nice things about her. I think if you look at the mainstream media there’s just a lot of hostility towards her, and, you know, pretty much everything she does makes them angry. And I think what she says is exactly right. She owes them nothing and does not have to play by their rules. It’s actually kind of refreshing to see somebody who just says screw you to these people who treat her like garbage.

SCOTT: The, the media, Jim, have been saying to her that she is not respecting them because she wasn't, you know, letting them know her schedule, her itinerary in advance and so forth. And they are warning that that’s going to hurt, yeah, hurt her with voters. But the question is, I mean it's not the voters who are angry with her. It's the media.

JIM PINKERTON: Right, and so Chris Matthews who says she is the most divisive politician since the civil war. She’s got a long way down, she can go lower than that in Chris Matthews’ eyes, right? I got to tell you, I saw the sneak preview of a new movie by Steven Bannon called "The Undefeated." It’s about Sarah Palin, it’s this documentary coming out later in the summer, and in there there’s a brilliant quote from Andrew Breitbart saying that the thing the media hate about Sarah Palin is that she refuses to cooperate with her own demise. That is she refuses to play ball with reporters while they try to kill her. Good for her.

SCOTT: You’re nodding in agreement I guess?

ANDREA TANTAROS: Yeah, it’s absolutely true. Dan Balz from the Washington Post summed it up. She has mastered the art of playing with the media, and it also exposed this week how wimpy the media are. I mean, they came out and were whining that they’re, this is endangering their health and chasing after her might hurt them. I mean, buck up already. I mean, for people who dislike her so much, they sure are obsessed with her. I mean, it’s like a fatal attraction thing. I mean, get over it already.

MILLER: How do you get elected president - if she is running, and we still don't know - how do you get elected president with such hostility on the part of the lame stream media as she calls us?

SCOTT: Are you saying she couldn’t do it, she couldn’t overcome that?

MILLER: I’m saying it’s really hard to overcome dislike and intense hatred of that kind.

POWERS: Yeah, it’s true. It's very difficult. I mean, when the media turned on Hillary, you saw what happened. You know, they were behind her and they decided, “No, we're going to go with Obama.” Hard to fight that.

Pretty interesting to have four media members of differing political persuasions all agree on how poorly Palin is and has been treated by their colleagues. If it's so obvious to these four, why don't the rest of the press get it?

Or is there something else in play?

Are the media just furious that after almost three years of tearing this woman apart, they haven't been able to finish her off? Rush Limbaugh commented on this Friday:

They hate her, they despise her, they are frustrated that they haven't destroyed her. They can't believe she's still smiling. They can't believe she's still drawing crowds. They can't believe that she's enjoying life. They can't believe her family is still together. They can't believe her husband hasn't walked out on her. They can't believe any of this. Folks, you know this as well as I do: When they set out to destroy you, they mean just that -- and Palin's not playing along with the script. She's not acting destroyed. She's not asking for forgiveness. She's not begging them to leave her alone. She's not changing in order to make them lighten up or anything. She's just looking at 'em and smiling.

Indeed, and it's galling the lot of them with the exception of the precious few that are willing to be honest with themselves and the public.

Kirsten Powers coming back from the dark side. Early on, she was one of the few liberals in the media I respected, but I dropped my respect for her after watching her banal and asinine exchange with Fox News Megyn Kelly.

That said, I commend her for her honest opinion of Sarah Palin. It appears that when Powers has to choose between defending one of her own, women, or her left-wing viewpoint, she chooses women. But don't get your hopes up. Powers is still a liberal, who will defend Obama, his progressive, socialist agenda, and the Black Panthers.  In that regard, she is no different than Alan Colmes, Chris Matthews, etc.

She's not changing.  It's always been her method to select  items here and there in which to agree with conservatives, but mostly she softens conservative criticism by politely offering alternative explanations.  By coming across as reasonable, I'm sure she hopes to get the Lefts talking points out to a generally conservative audience.

Democrat or Republican since 1972. We agree on Kersten Powers. I hope we agree that voting Obama out of office should be a priority, and that the only way to accomplish that is to vote Republican. Voting for a third-party candidate will ensure that Obama is reelected. I couldn't and can't stomach RINO John McCain. But I held my nose tightly and voted for him. We must support the Republican nominee whoever he or she is, or President Obama has four more years to destroy this country.

I don't agree with much of what she says but I like that she seems to be able to present the liberal side to an issue without the nastiness. She probably hangs out with a lot of the FNC ladies and I imagine would count them as friends. Thats gotta rub off over time. And I can say one thing for sure...if she takes a conservative position on an issue (which she does sometimes) and half-men like Matthews, Olbermann or Schultz say something rude or demeaning about her, conservative sites like this one would light up in her defence. Liberal sites......not so much.

The media made a image of Palin in that she is the spawn of Satan himself in the same vain as they made Obama a god among men. As good Obama-bots need to destroy the evil image in which they created. They can not let her go and wished that they "knew how to quit" her but they can't .

Even if she is not in the 2012 race they will still follower her around all the way to 2016 and say that not being in the 2012 race hurt her chances in 2016.

Both Mitt Romney and Tim Pawlenty wished they had the enemies that Sarah has, as they get the media interns to follow them and then page A12 when they do something.

What I love about Palin is the fact that she must be as pure as the driven snow' with absolutely no baggage. The msm is little more than a massive arm of the DNC and Palin treats it as such. My favorite line from ANY politician over the past 5 years came from Palin at the 2008 RNC:

"But here's a little news flash for all those reporters and commentators: I'm not going to Washington to seek their good opinion - I'm going to Washington to serve the people of this country."

The crowd went bonkers. Plenty of pissed looks from the "journalists" in attendance (e.g., Andrea Mitchel, who Giuliani completely $h*t on in a post-speech interview).

Submitted by Rush Fan on Sat, 06/04/2011 - 8:07pm.

provide an honest, fair and balanced portrayal, from Sarah Palin's perspective, of the liberal media's disdain and hatred for her?

President Obama and his crew have made every effort to marginalize Fox News, before and after the 2008 election, by using, as Rush Limbaugh points out, Chicago Thug Politics. Although it slowed down for awhile, expect the criticism of Fox News by Obama and his supporters to accelerate as the campaign for the 2012 election draws closer.

It comes to mind the heated exchange in 2008 between Fox News Megyn Kelly, who was defending Fox News, and Bill Burton, who would become White House deputy press secretary in the Obama Administration, (video here) and who was blaming Fox News for fake controversies and right-wing bias. I'll let you be the judge, but I believe Megyn won that exchange by a landslide. I'm looking forward to Megyn's return to Fox News from maternity leave.

Palin is on the front lines of America's battle against the constant barrage of misinformation and the manipulation by the MSM. She really does not need the others at all.......... and It is payback time. She gains little to nothing if she gives interviews to, lets say, really low-rated MSNBC. They have to cover her anyway. There are media personalities on our side that are just as vicious. Charles Krauthammer, George Will, Bill O'Rielly and a few others. Their problem stems from the attitude of she is not one of us Beltway Republicans or from the Northeast Republican establishment. Some of that also comes from the likes of Karl Rove, who is very upset, because she did not hire him to run her campaign. You can be sure that if Sarah Palin hired him to run her campaign, Rove would be all gushy about her.

Palin is a contractor of Fox News, as are all the others.

Submitted by tombaker on Tue, 06/07/2011 - 9:05am.

Fox News is the most powerful force in Cable News, beating MSNBC CNN HLN and CNBC combined...is what they promote.

But this group seems to want to think they are not part of the MSM....really? What is Fox then, the biggest news organization on cable news or not. You know what is not MSM, blogs, sites like this, WND, Instapundit. Sorry Fox....you are the MSM, you are part of that group....you even get a seat in the white house briefing room, and are part of the pool reporters.

Palin is a drama queen, and she has fans. She granted interviews to Greta and her chuckling buddy Chris Wallace. Interviews like they are chats between co-workers at an office party.

So the point of this big media blitz where Palin shows up the media by playing find the Palin bus.....the point is what to show that people don't like to be F-ed with. Gosh Sara thanks. So she has time to do interviews, but not time to talk to anyone besides Fox, the media is frustrated by lack of access to a reality star who says she may run for president.

Sara its wonderful drama...but its just hog wash. Screwing with the media, claiming victimhood, laughing how you like to step on toes of the media.

Then being asked gotcha questions like.....what type of things do you read.....or what is your take away from this trip.

Sara Palin needs the training wheels to stand up, she just does not have the skills by herself. She needs her employer to script out questions to her, and she is fearful to be asked anything by any sit down reporter besides Fox news. So long as Sara is ownly spoken twweu by fellow Fox Employees can she be sure to not flub it up.

If Sara had the skills for Executive Office she would still be Alaska as Governor.....but she fled that job because she could not handle the attention.

Put Sara in as POTUS and the pressure will send her tail between legs, scampering away. Poor Sara she screws with the media, by self admission, and then crys and crys why oh why did they stump me with gotcha questions like.....now that you have been here, what do you think?

Keep Sara away from open questions, keep it all to yes or no, give two options, and have her pick, tout her performances immediately.....those are Chris Wallace's crib notes for his Fox News Sunday puffery and fluff work.

Sorry if I can see Putin, N Korea, Iran, Castro's brother and anyone else roll Palin, and send her again to the resignation window, when faced with stress.

When the going gets tough, Palin resigns, when asked where she stands, she says I am going rogue, when asked "what ya think of your trip here?" She complains that her ignorance is only caused by those gotcha questions.

Dang Katie Couric rolled Palin, that is how fragile Palin is. Wasn't she cute when she said " step on any toes" on national TV in a baby voice, and left a sucker pucker on her face, she is such a darling, she gets so much attention, Roger Ailes says she is smart too, Doesn't he employ here.....get away now....don't look behind this curtain again. Fox News Watch is really on it.....believe that.

Here you are talking about Palin, She needs her employer to script out questions to her, and she is fearful to be asked anything by any sit down reporter besides Fox news. When you've really described Obama, without the Fox news reference.  Obama is the one who needs his questions scripted, so that he can script his answers.  You, know, the on  es he reads from the teleprompter.

And it's his administration, people who are actually working for the government, who have refused to go on Fox News.  Palin is a private citizen.  When she's on the news the left complains she's a publicity hound, now she's criticized for not going on the news?
