Bill Maher: Republicans Are Paranoid, Greedy Racists

Noel Sheppard's picture

It certainly was no surprise after what happened in Pakistan last Sunday that HBO's Bill Maher was going to spend much of his "Real Time" program fawning over Barack Obama.

Having done precisely that for approaching an hour, Maher ended Friday's show by calling members of the GOP paranoid, greedy racists (video follows with transcript and commentary):

BILL MAHER: 30 percent of this country will always vote Republican. I'm just asking why? Yes, paranoia, greed, and racism are fun, but it's, it's like when you see someone driving a Mercury, you think, you think, “Did that person really wake up one day thinking, ‘You know what car I want to drive, a Mercury Mariner.’” No. No. You assume he knows someone who sells them or he was molested by a Kia dealer as a child.

And I know this all sounds like harsh truth but Republicans are supposed to be the party of harsh truths like there's no such thing as a free lunch - and speaking of lunch, I think Obama just ate yours.

Most interesting about this concluding segment was that earlier in the program, former Bush speechwriter David Frum several times stated that one of the great revelations from Sunday's raid on Osama bin Laden's compound in Pakistan was that a large part of the mechanisms enabling the mission were indeed put in place by the previous White House resident.

In Frum's, Obama took the ball from his predecessor and ran with it.

The point he was making, contrary to protestations by other panelists, wasn't that Bush necessarily deserved credit for something that happened over two years after he left office, but that the current White House resident was utilizing a counter terrorism and intelligence structure created by the previous president thereby giving the mission and its success a distinctly bipartisan flavor.

In a nation rife with hyperpartisanship and political sniping, Frum viewed this as an entree to a more civil national discussion. One thing necessary for this to happen was the nation's radio and TV talkers would need to tone down their rhetoric.

Maher must not have been listening, for minutes later he called Republicans paranoid, greedy racists.

Ironically, folks like Maher and others in the media constantly complain about the caustic tone in this country without ever considering the part they play in fanning the fires of acrimonious discontent. In their distorted world view, only a conservative can be a polemicist.

Someone should sit the "Real Time" host down and force him to watch this installment over and over until a light bulb goes on over his head - or am I kidding myself on a Saturday morning?

To complete his descent to the level of a punk, everyone's pal Billy should have also called them 'fatty-fat-fat-fat', then lolled his tongue at the camera while making mule ears with his hands and chanting 'nyah nyah nyah Republicans suck'.

Behold liberals - your 'tolerant, intelligent, reasonable' standard-bearers, who 'mourn the loss of civility in this country'. And who wail 'what has become of America's soul??' while they try to ban prayer, attack churches and tear the crosses off the graves of dead war heroes.

Looks like the pigs in Animal Farm have stampeded back into the waller and called themselves 'the media'.

If a Liberal/Democrat politician/media figure wants to put their arms around you, or pat you on the back, all they're doing is looking for a good place to stick a knife.

Attention, all you conservatives who have HBO

Submitted by Mary Louise Turner on Sat, 05/07/2011 - 9:09am.

Why are you conservatives watching HBO in the first place? Every now and then, the nutwork will show a decent movie, but most of the nutwork's programming is pure dreck. Bill Maher's "Real Time" is the worst of all, especially as he gets loonier and loonier. If you want to watch clips from his train wreck, go to NB and cancel your HBO subscription - now!

because of both channels' left-leaning, conservative/Repub bashing garbage. Maher is THE main reason why we don't take HBO, and even though without him, we still would likely not get HBO, but as long as he is affiliated with them in any, we won't even consider it. Obviously I'm not the only one that feels this way, but there are apparently enough empty-headed, hateful libnuts out there who do watch the despicable Maher, and who somehow manage to keep him on the air.

Isn't that the same as the left, including the President Of The United States, calling all Republicans, monsters, greedy, racist, evil, sneaky, dirty, slimy, stupid, clowns, etc., etc., and blaming all the current ills on them??

Submitted by Maestroh on Sat, 05/07/2011 - 10:44am.

If you REALLY support the liberal agenda then shouldn't you be paying a WHOLE LOT MORE of those taxes since you're one of those "wealthiest one percent" folks? Oh I forgot - as I learned from Tim Geithner and Charlie Rangel, what you mean is you want OTHER RICH PEOPLE to pay more in taxes. Kinda like John Kerry saying, "People like me should be paying more" and then docking his boat in Rhode Island to save $400,000 in taxes. Surely your love of government should result in you putting your money where your mouth is.

Note to Bill: how did Obama eat the Republicans' lunch? That comment makes absolutely no sense at all. Oh, because he sent in the Navy Seals? You mean the ones who got the information from those who YOU OPPOSED THE INTERROGATION of. Those? Guess what? Come November 2012, nobody will care. Don't believe me? Go ask GHW Bush.

And Bill...

George W Bush dispite his flaws, was loved by the troops.. They stand in line still to shake his hand.. While I'm sure you can find some support types,. truck drivers, cooks, warehousing specialists who think Obama's the stuff...

How many of those SEALS do you think voted for Obama, or think he's anything like the shadow of a leader. These guys are the epiteme of nonliberal, you can't be a career warrior, can't focus the discipline these men do and be uncertain about the existence of evil.

...to your excellent rant about GWB.

Remember him going to DFW airport to stand in the terminal greeting returning troops? And the looks on their faces as they realized who was standing there to greet them? And of course, a mere ten days ago, George Bush kicked off the Wounded Warrior Ride, the first official event of his Presidential Social Enterprise Initiative?

"I take responsibility for having put these men and women in harm's way. And I intend to make sure America never forgets these brave soldiers and they get the attention and services they deserve."

But of course, Bill Maher can't possibly see the difference between Bush's treatment of the troops and Obama's.   Obama treats the military like one big campaign photo op.

Should we start running bets? The lib media is becoming so crazed and hateful, I think we should.
How long will it be before the lib media starts to directly call for violence against conservatives and republicans? How long before Mahar, Beher, Whoopi, Rosie O'Donnel, Malloy or someone like them say something like THIS:

'Republicans are traitors to Obama. We call on all democrats and all who are loyal to Obama to treat conservatives as enemies, and they must be driven from the country or exterminated if necessary to protect the public peace.'

Not unlike that old line from Kent Brockman of the Simpsons. 'Even though the leader is completely non-violent, he encourages you to be as violent as you like against (conservatives)!'

It's not a question of

Submitted by dscott on Sun, 05/08/2011 - 8:53am.

It's not a question of insanity as you or I define it. It's a question of cannon fodder. The liberal elites know of the 80 million owners of the 200 million guns in this country, the vast majority of those owners are of the conservative bent, i.e. NOT liberal. Some are leftist loons too but the vast majority is conservative. So why would the elites in the MSM incite the few leftist loons who have weapons? To give a pretext for the government to seize all guns in the name of domestic tranquility. Once this happens then the elites can safely pull off their cherished bloodless coup. They know the way the Constitution and rights are set up by the founding fathers prevents any coup attempt since the coup plotters have to contend with literally millions of gun totting opponents hunting for them on every street. At the end of the day, the armed citizen, the militia, is the backbone of our freedoms as the only reason any dictatorship can rule is via the consent of the governed. Condoning and fear are a form of consent, not legitimate, but until the slave stands up to fight he/she is not free. You can not be free unless you are willing to die for it. Liberals offer a faux freedom, their condescending condoning of your existence as long as it benefits them.

What Kind of a Mind Thinks That

Submitted by Comrade Jim on Sat, 05/07/2011 - 11:27am.

"Yes, paranoia, greed, and racism are fun" or thinks that anyone else would think that "paranoia, greed, and racism are fun"?

Is Maher paranoid, greedy, and racist himself? I don't know about the (personal) greedy part but he sure sounds paranoid and racist. The constant charges of racism against people he disagrees with serves to use race for political purposes and to drive a wedge between the races.

The Democratic Party has a long history of racism. Their traditional racists have been dying off, Robert KKK Byrd being the latest, now they are fully into the new racism. Use race to bash political opponents.

To try to answer the question in the subject line, I would say that it is the kind of mind that would say anything that could possibly have a political impact. It is a question of judgment as to how outrageous to be and pass the laugh test. Even his audience has limits. His audience would not quite swallow the charge that, say, Republicans are Martians. That one he would have to cloak in a joke.

To me it is still a bit of an open question of what kind of a mind thinks that...?

  • No more giving billions to our enemies for their only product, oil
  • No more giving billions to Brazil so they can investing in oil exploration and drilling
  • More jobs here
  • More supply of oil her

Here it is. Wait for it. Hang on. Here it comes: And that would lead to >>>>>LOWER PRICES for oil, gas, everything that needs to travel to supply anyone's needs.<<<<<

What does gasoline have to do

Submitted by NL207 on Sat, 05/07/2011 - 10:16pm.

with a house, unless you happen to be an arsonist?

Obama has not done anything to make housing supply go down. Indeed, he has increased the number of housing units for sale, thereby depressing prices.

Obama and the Democrats in general have declared war on fossil fuels.  They are strangling oil exploration and development of new supplies by making huge deposits of oil off-limits altogether or imposing burdensome permitting and regulation processes.  Then Obama has the effrontery to lie to the American people about the size of America's oil reserves and blame high prices on greedy oil company profits.

Obama claims America only has 2-3% of the oil in the world.  This is a barefaced lie.  America has at least 1T bbls of oil in its lands and the waters off its coasts.  Some place this number as high as 1.4T bbls.  Depending on whose estimates of world oil reserves you use, this is somewhere between 15 and 25% of all the oil in the world.

Obama says the high price of gas is caused by greedy oil companies and speculators.  The oil companies make less than a nickel profit per gallon of gas sold.  Greedy governments levy about 40-60 cents tax on each gallon of gas sold depending on the state and locality.  Investors see Obama is stifling future production from roughly 20% of the world's known oil reserves.  They are investing in oil betting that it will rise in price because future US supplies are being constrained by Obama and worldwide demand is increasing.   Increase supplies and the price will go down.

Obama -- Parade time!

Submitted by MCLANTIERE on Sat, 05/07/2011 - 12:07pm.

The economy is a wreck, unemployment is going back UP, companies are not spending to invest, our enemies think we're a toothless lion ... and FINALLY King Obama got something right, by ordering a "hit" on another leader!

These racist fools that elected him (yes, the PRO-Obama supporters are the one who clearly voted on the basis of race) have been watching this disaster unfold -- ready to pounce on all critics by accusing them of that for which they-themselves are most guilty -- Racism! They are truly delusional -- unable to see that the POLICIES are actually, fundamentally flawed . For them, there's only one other possibility when someone dares to criticize our country's present course. It must be RACE!

So the Donkey-Nose Maher gets on TV ... and having NOTHING in 2-years about which to applaud and crow in the Obama "RESULTS Dept." .... he screams aloud the first time any goes right! This is like taking a kid to the bowling alley for the first time ... and all night long everything he rolls is a "gutter-ball". And then –miraculously! -- more a result of an accident .. one ball actually has the inertia to stay on the wood ... enough at least to eventually knock down a pin! And the place erupts is a joyous cheer!!

Such is life for Barack Obama. Elected not because of any actually experience or ideals ... but more because the idea of a RACIAL candidate made for such an Historic Moment in America. Have you ever noticed how often a liberal will tell you how SMART Obama is ... how educated ... how much sheer CLASS the man has. It's reminiscent of Harry Reid remarking that Obama was a CLEAN ATRICULATE BLACK MAN.

So after needing 16 hours of "thinking about it", and "sleeping on it" ... Obama orders the "hit". Young men (Navy Seals) risk their lives ... and Fearless Leader "eats our lunch" (take THAT, Bush!!) because the Seals accomplished the mission, for which they are well trained. All the while, Obama poses for photo-ops in the Situation room ... looking "intent" as the drama unfolds (oops, that picture WAS actually posed!)

Well, you know what I mean. When it goes right, he spikes the ball like Terrell Owens ... and when it goes wrong, you can hear Al Sharpton and Bill Maher saying "Give the Brother a break.”

What if Presidencies reversed

Submitted by Miket53 on Sat, 05/07/2011 - 12:13pm.

To make sure everyone understands the significance of what George Bush did they should think how the terrorism/Osama story would have played out if the presidential terms were reversed.

If 9/11 happened under Obama's watch would he have been so focused and deliberate in a war on terrorism? Would he have committed the time and money to such a goal? Would he have even continued to hunt Osama bin Laden? I doubt it. There is a high probability that the US would have been attacked yet again by Osama. Therefore the events of last Sunday would never have happened. Osama probably wouldn't have been so diligent about hiding.

Barack Obama had to do what he did and is now getting a lot of political mileage out of it. What will be interesting to watch is if he hurts the support from the extreme left now that he has bin Laden's death on his hands. Most are happy bin Laden is gone but the extreme left liberals must be fuming.

These left wing loons, like

Submitted by Smartypants on Sat, 05/07/2011 - 12:35pm.

These left wing loons, like Maher, can gush all they want about His Highness and the killing of bin Laden. It was GWB who decimated Al Quaida. His Administration destroyed much of the hierarchy of the organization, froze many of its funding and money movement capabilities and put them on the run. They have not been nearly as effective since Bush focused on them. It is great that they finally got the leader, but it is also somewhat inconsequential. The left wing media told us endlessly that Bush's actions would help terrorist recruiting. What exactly does the shooting of an unarmed bin Laden lead to?

Why are Leftists not recognized as "haters"? They LIVE to hate!

Submitted by Ted Clarke on Sat, 05/07/2011 - 1:07pm.

The final comment this idiot makes -- "speaking of lunch, I think Obama just ate yours" -- indicates a distinction between the way the Right and the Left view Osama bin Laden's death:

The Right sees it as a MORAL victory over evil enemies of America.

The Left sees it as a POLITICAL victory over "evil" Americans.

And speaking of how the Left views the Right, here is an assortment of delightful quotations that seem to suggest that they don't like us very much:

1) HOWARD DEAN (ex-chairman of the DNC)
> "I hate Republicans and everything they stand for."
> Describing his political fight with Americans of the other party: "This is a struggle of good and evil. And we're the good."
> "In contradistinction to the Republicans, Democrats don’t believe kids ought to go to bed hungry at night."

2) ALAN GRAYSON (ex-D., Fla.)
> "I want to say a few words about what it means to be a Democrat. It’s very simple: We have a conscience.”
> "The Republicans want you to die quickly if you get sick."

3) MICHAEL FEINGOLD (The Village Voice)
> "Republicans don't believe in the imagination, partly because so few of them have one, but mostly because it gets in the way of their chosen work, which is to destroy the human race and the planet. Human beings, who have imaginations, can see a recipe for disaster in the making; Republicans, whose goal in life is to profit from disaster and who don't give a hoot about human beings, either can't or won't. Which is why I personally think they should be exterminated before they cause any more harm."

4) CHRIS MATTHEWS (MSNBC)
> "You guys see Live and Let Die, the great Bond film with Yaphet Kotto as the bad guy, Mr. Big? In the end they jam a big CO2 pellet in his face and he blew up. I have to tell you, Rush Limbaugh is looking more and more like Mr. Big, and at some point somebody’s going to jam a CO2 pellet into his head and he’s going to explode like a giant blimp. That day may come. Not yet. But we’ll be there to watch. I think he’s Mr. Big, I think Yaphet Kotto. Are you watching, Rush?"
> “People love Medicare. And the only one the Tea Party people want to cut is Medicaid because it’s for poor people and minorities."

5) COURTLAND MILLOY (The Washington Post)
> "I know how the 'tea party' people feel, the anger, venom and bile that many of them showed during the recent House vote on health-care reform. I know because I want to spit on them, take one of their 'Obama Plan White Slavery' signs and knock every racist and homophobic tooth out of their Cro-Magnon heads."

6) NINA TOTENBURG (NPR on "Inside Washington")
> “I think he [then-Sen. Jesse Helms (R-N.C.)]ought to be worried about what’s going on in the Good Lord’s mind, because if there is retributive justice, he’ll get AIDS from a transfusion, or one of his grandchildren will get it.”

7) JULIANNE MALVEAUX (then-USA Today columnist)said of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas: “I hope his wife feeds him lots of eggs and butter and he dies early like many black men do, of heart disease. … He is an absolutely reprehensible person.”

8) TAVIS SMILEY
> In defending Islamo-fascist terrorists who mass murder people in the name of their religion, he said: "But Christians do that every single day in this country." Ayaan Hirsi Ali, clearly surprised, responded: "Do they blow people up every single day?" Tavis insisted this was true, as if it was common knowledge: "Yes, oh, Christians...everyday. People walk into post offices...I mean, people walk into post offices. They walk into schools. That was what Columbine was. I mean I could do this all day long. There are so many more examples of Christians -- and I happen to be a Christian, that's back to this notion of you idealizing Christianity, in my mind, to my read. -- There are so many more examples, Ayaan, of Christians who do that than you can ever give me examples of Muslims who have done that inside this country where you live and work."

9) JOHN CUSACK (Huffington Post blogger and actor)
He described conservatives as "flag-sucking half-wits" who "speak for all that is cruel and stupid and vicious in the American character. They are the racists and hate-mongers among us. They are the Ku Klux Klan. I piss down the throats of these Nazis."

10) BILL MAHER (HBO)
> “Well, the Tea Party, you know, they are sad, unfortunate people because — well, they are, because they are, you know, corporate America’s useful idiots. (Applause) They are. They — I would have more respect for them if they knew a thing, if any fact could get in that tin foil helmet. If they would get out of their chat rooms and have their house tested for lead for just a minute....I don’t have any respect for the tea-baggers and I do call them the tea-baggers even though they hate it."

11) LARRY KING (CNN)
> "Why do you think so many conservatives are so against this feeling of being kind?"

Please feel free to add to this list if the mood strikes.

Why Spend Time?

Submitted by Richard.Halavais on Sat, 05/07/2011 - 1:51pm.

Why is it we, as intelligent people, spend our valuable time paying any attention to such idiots as Bill Maher? If overnight he became a conservative he'd still be an idiot. He is obviously physically deformed and his mental failing become more obvious every time he opens his mouth. In better times people like him, and others of his ilk were kept on the farm away from public view so as to prevent embarrassment to the rest of the family. They eventually died and everything went on as normal. Oh how I long for the good old days.

GOP member - ok admit

Submitted by dscott on Sat, 05/07/2011 - 4:42pm.

GOP member - ok admit that

paranoia - ok admit that, I don't believe anything Obama says, don't trust him, he's iching to tell me what to do done to the littlest detail and he is definitely out to get everyone in my income bracket, i.e. middle working class.

greed - ok admit that - I'm not interested in sharing my income without my express permission nor having it wasted on liberal boondoggles so they can claim credit for helping people by screwing them over or making them dependent.

racism - already called that because I don't agree with Obama, expose the consequences of his stated intentions and frequently point out his expired statements.

molested by a Kia dealer as a kid - NOPE and Kia wasn't even around when I was a kid.

So Maher, what's your point? I vote Republican, so what of it? You vote Democrat. Your point is inane and your employer is wasting it's money and loses it credibility based on your type of tripe. Instead of name calling and deminishing those who disagree with you be the big person and reason with them. The fact you stoop to such childish nonsense demonstrates you are not capable of convincing anyone under the age of 18 with little to no life experience of the logical sequence of facts that support your conclusions. But that's the problem isn't it? You believe in the agenda but don't care about the facts. This is why you come off irrational.

Submitted by fitzfong on Sat, 05/07/2011 - 5:06pm.

No, Noel, most interesting is how uncritically you present that eunuch David "No Labels" Frum. This fraud is constantly (and desperately) trolling for new angles to make himself and his intellectually lazy brand of "compassionate 'conservatism'" appear relevant. It's all well and good for you to bash Comrade Maher and his audience of Marxist college drones, but when someone like Frum tries to legitimize Maher by pretending to represent conservative thought, speaking platitudes about how Frum sees this as an opportunity for more speech code tyranny under the guise of "civil discourse" is woefully inadequate. Unprincipled, pseudo-intellectual garbage like David Frum is significantly more damaging to the well-being of this country than unintelligent, hacky pseudo-comedians like Bill Maher.

Isn't there any way to make this jerk have to defend his claims? You know, there are some guys who get off track, every once in a while, and then leave it alone. This guy seems to be making money off of being a jerk.

I believe it's time to put pressure on HBO and his sponsors, not to take him off the air, but to have him have some serious conservatives on there, like Newt, and force his dumb ass to have to defend what he says. There is no reasons some idiot, like him, should just have a forum, with a built in Amen chorus, to spout this stuff and not be held accountable for it. He's no long a comedian, he's a political commentator and, as such, he should be judged accordingly.

Vote Republican - Then you'll only be called a racist one more time.
