Tea Partier to MSNBCer: Media That Blame All Criticism of Obama on His Skin Color Are 'Racers'

By Noel Sheppard | April 30, 2011 | 09:25

You've heard of Birthers and Truthers.

Tea Partier and talk radio host Tony Katz on Thursday, while appearing on MSNBC News Live Contessa Brewer, called media members that blame all criticism of Barack Obama on the color of his skin "Racers" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

TONY KATZ, TEA PARTIER: This is Obama failing to do his job.

CONTESSA BREWER, MSNBC HOST: That’s what a lot of people are saying it's not a laughing matter. They say that there are questions about him, not because there really are questions about where he is born, but because he is black. […]

KATZ: But this whole idea of race, you know what, if there are birthers and they're all crazy and silly for actually wanting to see a birth certificate, well let's talk about the racers, the people who believe that everything is a conspiracy about race. It's Obama’s race that people want to see the birth certificate. It's Obama’s race that people don't like the out of control spending. It's not his race. It's that he's awful. The policies are terrible. ObamaCare is a lie and a failure. QE1 and QE2 didn't work. It's crazy.

BREWER: There were people who took that very exact same stand when George W. Bush was president. They said the exact same words that you're saying about President Bush, and they never demand – wait, wait, wait, wait - and they never demanded to see a birth certificate.

Brewer was showing quite a touch of ignorance here since nobody questions the citizenship of George H. W. and Barbara Bush therefore making it absurd to want to see George W.'s birth certificate. At the same time she was actually making Katz's point for if the same kind of attacks were being lodged against a white president, they can't stem from racism:

KATZ: They didn't say it was race. Everything that comes out of the racers, and they exist - the Washington Post, the New York Times, the Huffington Post", some people at your very network, and you know I enjoy having these conversations with you. They are so focused. Everything is about race. It's not about race. When we talk about Obama and the policies, it's about the awful policies. It's about the inability to bring down debt. It’s about the inability to tackle the deficit. And when everybody says, “Oh, they're just after this because of race,” it is nonsense. It's a way to stop people from having conversation. Political correctness at its worst. If we want to talk about the issues, let's talk about the issues.

Exactly, and all those conflating the issues with accusations of racism are allowing the White House and the Democrats to avoid any kind of serious discussion about the problems facing the nation.

Let's hope the term "Racer" catches on, for it indeed represents a sizable percentage of America's media that for over four years have aided and abetted Obama in avoiding any criticism whatsoever as a result of the color of his skin.

Bravo, Tony! Bravo!

Contessa, do you want to be a Racer or talk about reality?

Submitted by Red Jeep on Sat, 04/30/2011 - 9:42am.

Do you want to be a Racer and play that race card every time someone criticizes the President, instead of debating policies?

Do you want to be a Racer and kiss the ground BO walks on and endorse all his policies no matter how bad because he is BLACK (sort of) and can do no wrong?

contessa and most of MSNBC "news' personalities are Racers.

"Racers" are the 95% of the black population who voted for Bambi because HE IS BLACK!!

45% of whites voted for Bambi, while 55% did not BECAUSE HE IS A RAT BASTARD FASCIST SON OF A BITCH.

By my count that means 95% of black are "racers" while only 55% of whites are "racers."

Check out the link below and hear a confession from someone about voting for Obama because he was black, who has now seen the light.  Very informative.

This is exactly how conservatives should talk when confronted by media people who have an agenda. Confront their bias head-on with no apologies. This is why Trump and Christie have gained so much of a following.  For too long the media have been Left-wing advocates and the conservatives are still acting as if they are being interviewed by professional journalists.  We've got to make the media afraid to confront conservatives.   After all, some of these dim bulb news readers cannot debate anyone who has a command of facts.

One of the things that infuriates me about the media is the way they try to put a wall around themselves and refuse to be examined. They are free to put anyone at all under their microscope but any attempt to turn the spotlight on them and talk about their history is met with “No, no I’m not the story here”. Sorry people but how you report the news is a perfectly legitimate subject to debate.

Submitted by sarge329 on Sat, 04/30/2011 - 10:42am.

Those I know who object to Obama do so not because of his skin color. They don't care about his color. They couldn't care if he was green or purple, with stripes and polka dots. These people object to Obama because of his policies. They object because of his unwillingness to serve the citizens of the country that he so desparately wanted to run. They object to his inability to tackle problems head on. Most of all, though, they don't like they way he carries himself. It's as though he's better than the voters. It's his detachment, his aloofness. He doesn't seem to care about the problems of the average citizen. I don't like the way he uses the flag as a doormat, and the Constitution as a piece of toilet paper.

I suppose anyone can like any part of him, but for me, I don't like ANYTHING about him and I just want to see him GONE.

These days, I don't have time for "halfways" with people and "what I like about you" because you end up getting all kinds of conflicts on different things that are stupid.  So I look at the whole package, and if there's some sort of liberalism going on, I don't want anything to do with it on a personal level, though on a professional level, I'll tolerate it to a point.  Then I try to have as little to do with it(in those "unavoidable" situations).

It sounds harsh and restrictive, but we're living in tough times and they seem like they will be getting tougher until the POSSOB is gone.  We're in "survival" mode here.

Racer Logic

Submitted by jcpenny on Sat, 04/30/2011 - 11:02am.

I routinely trade active political conversation with my dad. For quite a while in his life he would be classified a strong conservative who helped pioneer early computers with a in BS Physics and an MS in Electrical Engineering. However, he retired 10 years ago and his affection for entitlements and addiction to the MSM as a primary information source has shifted him far left from the way I was raised.

The reason I bring this up is encapsulated to his response to the a comment I made about the racism label being barred from application to minorities:

"...false, racism is an operating principal of the majorities in control."

This is why the Racers get away with dropping the race card at every, otherwise fair, criticism of Obama and his policies. They've perverted the very concept of what racism is -- the direct application of a person's race to affect a decision that is injurious to the race not favored (my definition). It has nothing to do with the majority of anything, yet even smart and successful people have been re-programmed to believe that racist behavior is indeed restricted to the majority.

There is a large swath of America that believes non-whites are immune from racism and that whites use racism as an "operating principle." Love my dad. Hate his politics.

Interesting

Submitted by MichaelPaladin on Sat, 04/30/2011 - 12:25pm.

My father was the exact opposite, while he worked he was a Democrat and Union supporter. Which meant most of his news came from CNN and HLN. During one program while Bush was still president one of the commentator was talking about the Chinese Premier and made the comment "Well at least he (the Premier) takes care of their people. And I responded well unless your a Christain over there and then they put them in prison for no reason other than in believing in God and Jesus. When I said that you see the light come on right then.

Then I gave hime a little challenge, take a month and switch back and forth between CNN and Fox News. And after that month then stick with the one that gave you the most information about various subjects. He ended up watching Fox News all the time.

And later he said to me " I never realized how socialistic the democrat party had become."

And even he realized that Obama would be a bad president. which he determined that from the one photo that came out showing Richardson, Hillary and Obama on a stage, with everyone but Obama holding their hands over their hearts during the National Anthem.

Nov 2008 was the first time my dad voted for a republican in a presidential election. Sadly it was also his last one, as he passed away last year. But I know he was smiling when the republicans took over congress and Pelosi lost her speakers chair. She was one of the few women my dad truely did not like.

Entitlements

Submitted by Kingfish17 on Sat, 04/30/2011 - 1:35pm.

You say your Dad retired 10 years ago, and has affection for entitlements.  I'm just wondering what you mean by that?  Does he have affection for the SS payments he gets, and the Medicare Coverage he receives, or does he like other government programs?

If you tell him that SS and Medicare are entitlements, he may take umbrage with that statement, and tell you that he paid into those programs, (and lots of seniors think this way, even though the math doesn't work).

Just wondering where you and your Dad are coming from.

Entitliements? Math doesn't work? Let's see I have paid (a rough estimate) around 1/2 million in taxes over my lifteime. Next year I become eligble for 'entitlements' and IF I am lucky might live another 15-20 years. How does the math not work out?

Taxes

Submitted by Kingfish17 on Sat, 04/30/2011 - 3:43pm.

You want all your taxes back? Are you entitled to that? I don't follow your logic.  Surely you, (and your employers if you aren't self employed),  haven't paid over $500,000 in Social Security and Medicare taxes?

The math for both Social Security and Medicare doesn't work.  That's why those programs need to be fixed.  The government didn't invest your, (or mine), Social Security taxes somewhere to one day pay you back.  The money is not there.  Sad to say, it's a big ponzi scheme.

And I'm in the same boat as you are with regards to taxes.

It's fine for someone your age to expect to get their Social Security payments.  You paid into the "system" with your social security taxes.

My main point was trying to figure out what his Dad considered "Entitlements".  I don't like lumping Social Security and Medicare, which people actually pay for, into other government programs such as food stamps and housing assistance and the EIC.  Many people view these programs as "entitlements" when they are really just hand-outs.  That was the main point about my question.

A suggestion for Social Security

Submitted by beauxdog on Sat, 04/30/2011 - 6:51pm.

I have a suggestion for a plan for Social Security. Its a little bit conservative... its a little bit progressive... but it might work. Please realize that I am just throwing this out for discussion. Its just an idea.

When I look at SS, I see three groups... older people who planned well for their retirement, older people who didn't or couldn't plan well... and those young turks who have time to change course.

First of all, I don't know where in the constitution it authorizes congress to interfere or impose a retirement package on me. On the other hand, there are a lot of irresponsible people out there (I raise my hand) that fail to plan or can't plan because of high taxes or a lot of other excuses. These people will be a burden to either society or their families. SS needs to be either eliminated or updated to meet the needs of the young turks.

So, the real problem right now are the old folks. I suggest that when someone retires, their contributions to SS are calculated in today's dollars with a generous return calculated in based on the performance of the stock market or other criteria during each working year. That number becomes their nest egg. They payed for it with a reasonable expectation of a fair return. They start collecting monthly payments against that nest egg. When the nest egg runs out, they are now receiving funds they didn't pay for... ie... welfare. The amount they receive after the nest egg runs out is up to 100% taxable. The tax is based on the percentage of their income from SS. If SS is 100% of their income... their tax is 0%. If SS is 90% of their income... they pay 5% back. If SS is 50% of their income, their tax is 25%. If SS is 10% of their income, they pay 80% back. Basically, when their SS becomes a drop in the bucket or play money for them, it all comes back. When compared to the poor planner, this appears to punish the good planner. However, remember, this doesn't kick in until after they have received all of their money back plus a generous return. The other guys are basically on welfare after that. Also note that partial good planners do better than those who didn't plan at all.

Just a thunk.

W

Submitted by Caringwhiteguy on Sat, 04/30/2011 - 11:29am.

Contessa's brilliant retort that "they" never asked for George W. Bush's birth certificate left me rolling on the floor. Is she hinting W is the secretly adopted son of the 41st President of the United States purchased from a baby mill in Romania? Tony Katz has nailed it here. He's articulated the perfect term. It should be used during every opportunity possible.

Rules 4, 5, and 6 from Saul Alinsky are ----

4. "Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules. You can kill them with this, for they can no more obey their own rules than the Christian church can live up to Christianity."

5. "Ridicule is man's most potent weapon. It is almost impossible to counteract ridicule. Also it infuriates the opposition, which then reacts to your advantage."

6. "A good tactic is one your people enjoy."

I especially like rule #6. This could really be FUN!

The Obama Strategy

Submitted by Gat New York on Sat, 04/30/2011 - 2:49pm.

The Obama Strategy has been and continues to be:

  1. Blame others, particularly Bush, for any failures.
  2. Take credit for any success (which is rare) even if not responsible for it (i.e. Iraq).
  3. Anyone disputing this and attempting to cast blame on Obama is immediately branded a Racist.

Trump wanted to see Obama's college transcripts. No one disputed or cared that Bush, Kerry, Gore, McCain were barely average college students - and it was not disputed by even them.

Obama and his PR people from the outset created this myth of a Black genius with a magna cum laude from Harvard Law. What was left out was how he got into Harvard and how that entry as well the magna cum laude was a complete disconnect with his entire previous academic history. How many C students from college go on to get into Harvard Law (other than children of alumni) and then get a magna cum laude? Please find me even one.

The very minute Trump raised the college transcript issue the entire cavalcade of liberal journalists and political figures branded him a racist.

As reported here, Bob Schieffer said that Trump even questioned that Obama got into Harvard Law by other means was "code" for racism. Schieffer should retire and go back to Texas where he, like his friend Obama, are not welcomed. The fact is that it was not "code" - it was "reality." Facts are inconvenient for liberal gutless cowards like Schieffer but the late New York African American political figure, Percy Sutton, publicly admitted many times to using his influence to get Obama into Harvard Law.

Racers is a great term although anyone using race to demagogue is a Racist and that is what Obama and his followers have been doing. If Obama and others are so anxious to put race behind us, then it is up to them to start doing just that and not hiding behind it.

Since Obama came on the scene, race relations have gotten worse. Now you see demagogue African Americans slandering any African American that is conservative as an Uncle Tom.

There is more of a divide in race than there has been since the 1970's and only in the past 2 years.

I like Trump because he has the courage to call it as it is and will stand for this slander while all other Republicans allow for it to continue.

Obama does not life a side show circus barker, then he should look in the mirror because he is nothing more than a shallow flim-flam artist who is a tenth of the myth that has been created for him.

Contessa Brewer - on demanding Bush's Birth Certificate??

Submitted by Gary Hall on Sat, 04/30/2011 - 3:28pm.

  • Contessa Brewer: [..] They said the exact same words that you're saying about President Bush, and they never demand – wait, wait, wait, wait - and they never demanded to see a birth certificate.

Well, there were not charges out there from the left that President Bush was not a US citizen, Contessa, were there? Had there been such charges - especially from his own side of the isle (as there is/was here with Obama) then.. then..  well, this is too obvious - of course,  "they" - the left, "they" -  the Democrats, "they" - the national MSM, "they" the Dan Rathers of the world (that's all of you folks Contessa), would have been demanding that President Bush show it.

One thing is for sure as hell - you wouldn't be giving folks on the left a difficult time over it would you?

Would you?

(;~/ gary

PS - How'd you folks in the MSM fare in your effort to beat up on the "Bush lied about WMD's conspirators? The 9/11 was an inside job conspirators? The Bush inherited a roaring economy from Clinton conspirators?  The Bush's little tax cuts in 2001-2003 caused a $1.3 Trillion shift from projected surpluses to realized deficits conspirators?

Media going Full Tilt on the Race Card already.

Submitted by krendler on Sat, 04/30/2011 - 3:53pm.

The media has already gone Full Tilt with the Race Card, coinciding with the start of Obama's campaign for re-election. We recently had Tavis Smiley injecting race into the discussion for no particular reason (other than that he desperately wants to be able to attribute any and all criticism of Obama to racism from here on out). Yesterday the Boston Globe ran a story about Romney saying "I want to hang the misery index around Obama's neck.". Ah! Racism! He use the term "hang" in reference to a black man. And there recently has been slew of stories implying that the Tea Party's only motivation is racism. Call Donald Trump a racist for good measure.

The "smoking gun" in all of this is, of course, liberals and the media throwing Bill Clinton of all people under the bus as a racist back in 08 for daring to say something negative about Obama.

Racers?

Submitted by dliston on Sat, 04/30/2011 - 4:48pm.

Sorry but Racer or Racers is just plain dumb. He missed the boat on this. There is already a word for the race obsessed people who see all things via race and racist under every bed. The term is Racialist.

What about the "Recorders"?

Submitted by big.league.slider on Sat, 04/30/2011 - 10:44pm.

Remember when the MSM was apoplectic about seeing GWB's service records? CBS news even went so far as to publish fake records. I'm sure most would agree that these "recorders" were worse than any "birthers".

As for Brewer's charge that criticism of a black official equals racism, does this dimwit not know who Justice Clarence Thomas is?

It all boils down to this.

Submitted by pbthinker on Sat, 04/30/2011 - 11:15pm.

If we talk about issues, Obama loses. If we talk about race, Obama wins. The problem with that is when you look at issues, that you can't talk about, Obama's side will never get out, which may or may not be good for him. If the republican is talking issues, and you don't want to talk about them but only talk about race, I believe you lose.

2012 is coming up fast. Republicans are going to have debates and primaries to get their positions out, Obama will have no competition. By the time th eelection comes, whoever wins the Republican nomination will have name recognition and their positions will be fairly well established, with very little challenge from Obama. So, how's that racist thing going to work then? Obama better get some adults in the White House soon because this racist strategy is not going to work. Let's face it, you can elect a White guy, disagree with his politics and be called a lot of things, but never be called a racist. Obama's people believe they can avoid discussing his faulty policies just by playing the race card. No one wants to be called a racist for disagreeing with the President and it's beginning to wear thin.

Vote Republican - Then you'll only be called a racist one more time.

Contessa Brewer is not just an idiot, she is a practicing idiot. To have anyone with a measurable IQ debate her is unfair.
