Krauthammer: It's Funny to Hear Liberals Talk About How Awful it is to Delegitimize a President After What They Did to Bush

By Noel Sheppard | April 29, 2011 | 23:56

Noel Sheppard's picture

Charles Krauthammer on Friday perfectly elucidated the media's hypocrisy concerning their avid defense of Barack Obama against attacks from Donald Trump and the birthers.

As the discussion on PBS's "Inside Washington"  turned to the President finally revealing his birth certificate, and liberals on the panel including the Washington Post's Colby King expressed disgust about how the White House resident was being treated, Krauthammer marvelously replied, "I think it’s somewhat amusing to hear people on the left talking about how awful it is to delegitimize a president when they spent half a decade saying that George Bush stole the election" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

CHARLES KRAUTHAMMER: I think it’s somewhat amusing to hear people on the left talking about how awful it is to delegitimize a president when they spent half a decade saying that George Bush stole the election. The bumper stickers “Reelect Al Gore,” and questioning the legitimacy of his victory in 2000. So, on that issue there’s a double standard and hypocrisy.

Two of the liberals on the panel clearly weren't pleased by this comment:

COLBY KING, WASHINGTON POST: Not quite.

NINA TOTENBERG, NPR: That’s not personal.

KING: Consider the people who were doing it.

KRAUTHAMMER: You guys have spoken for about eight minutes. Let me have one minute here.

That's not personal? The attacks on George W. Bush throughout his eight years in office weren't personal?

Oh, that's right. When liberals mercilessly attack a conservative, it's well-reasoned. But when the shoe is on the other foot, it's personal.

Any questions?

Krauthammer

I'm busy arguing with a googly-eyed lefty in another forum who still thinks the National Guard documents, fabricated by/for Dan Rather, were real.

The claims are still out there.

The MSM and Obama Caused this uproar.

Submitted by Boil It Down on Sat, 04/30/2011 - 12:23am.

Krauthammer was absolutely right, as is his habit, but he could have tried to be a little more emphatic about the complicity of the liberal media.
Had it not been for the MSM burying pertinent facts like the birth certificate, the transcripts, Obama's teachings at Harvard, his radical associations etc. instead of faithfully vetting him to the public none of this controversy would have grown into the monster it is now. The MSM has to answer for all this as much as Obama himself now. -bidn-

He merely points out the hypocrisy, Jer

Submitted by Galvanic on Sat, 04/30/2011 - 3:14am.

There's certainly hypocrisy on both sides in American politics.

But certainly Bush-43 was subjected to illegitimacy attacks, the most vicious one disguised as a CBS 60 Minutes news story by Dan Rather that presented two alleged memos suggesting that Bush-43 was AWOL from his Air NG commitments. Those documents proved to be fake, and CBS's own internal investigation determined that there were no fewer than ten major breeches of good journalistic practice and ethics.

That story was no accident and it aired several weeks before the 2004 election.

The birther crap pales in comparison to Rather's conspiracy.

but you find me condescending?................... ok,

you might consider in the future, you not use quotation marks around a word I never used.."educate" or "read" as a command,.. when I actualy wrote...

"Try reading ThinkProgress prior to 09,"

a suggestion you might not like, but only a command if you were getting it from your father. If your skin is this thin, with a comment that neither called you a name, or questioned your intelligence, I'm at a loss as to what I could say you wouldn't find offensive if you were having a bad day.

We tolerated that kind of bile aimed at us for a long time, and now that we can finally speak out about it, nobody's gonna tell us, we need to stop rocking the boat. Why? Because the left has had the stage alone for so long, they can't tolerate an opposition view?

My "offense" on that occasion consisted entirely of posting a link to a letter outlining the violent motivations of its author prior to his shooting rampage.

In this case, you completely misinterpreted my perceptions of Krauthammer (as well as BDS).  I think it would be helpful if you would at least seek a clarification of my views before acting on inaccurate presumptions.

2000 election losers are the real 'bitter clingers'.

Submitted by Slyrr on Sat, 04/30/2011 - 11:10am.

FIve years?

Note to Krauthammer: The libutard media, leftist crazies and demorat loons STILL believe that. In fact, a large part of their campaign of corruption is based on the lie they have adopted - that Bush 'stole' the election from the blessed Al Gore.

So their current ignoring of the law to force Obama care down our throats? That's OK, because they're just 'getting even' for Bush stealing the election.

Obama's Eric Holder refusing to enforce legitimately passed laws because he 'doesn't like' them? Hey, that's OK - because it's payback for Bush stealing the election!

Obama seizing control of private businesses? Hey, get used to it. It's payback time for Bush stealing the election!

Obama putting the oil industry out of business and boasting that he will 'bankrupt the coal industry'? Well that's sad, but he wouldn't have had to do it if Bush hadn't stolen the election and used his terms in office to enrich the evil oil/coal industries in the first place!

Make no mistake, the liberals and leftists are still raging over their 2000 defeat and I guarantee that many rank and file lefties see this lawless regime and their crimes against the constitution, and they're smiling and nodding their heads and thinking, 'Ha - at last we're getting even! Now the Republicans will feel what its like to have something THEY like stolen from them!'

They refuse to accept that Al Gore lost - fair and square. There's an old missionary saying when trying to preach the gospel to someone who is very hard-hearted. 'To the person not seeking an answer, no answer is good enough.' The 2000 election losers are the real 'bitter clingers'. They cling to their defeat and despair and their hate and they won't let it go, and they live their lives in a perpetual hunt for revenge.

Pointing out the truth to them does no good. Truth is: 1) Al Gore lost the first ballot count, and therefore lost his bid for president. 2) Al Gore lost the first recount. 3) Al Gore lost the second recount. 4) Al Gore lost the third recount. 4) Al Gore recognized defeat and conceded.

But Al Gore was a backstabbing snake at heart, and he helped his bitter clinger followers to forment the notion that 'Bush stole the election'. And the media has been helping to promulgate the lie ever since to the point that this leftist regime is destroying the constitution, the economy, national security and our standard of living and the media is saying 'it's OK - we're just getting even for what you did to Al Gore'

If a Liberal/Democrat politician/media figure wants to put their arms around you, or pat you on the back, all they're doing is looking for a good place to stick a knife.

Off and on, I paid attention.

Submitted by amyshulk on Sat, 04/30/2011 - 12:54pm.

Off and on, I paid attention. During Clinton, I did until it became sex 24/7. It obscured the real issues and was a BIG turn off.

During Bush, he was always portrayed as an idiot, yet I knew he had the smarts to surround himself with those smarter than he so I didn't follow things like I do now.

Obama thinks he's ALWAYS the smartest guy in the room, so I worry. Election night I said we're in trouble because Obama won't be smart enough to know when he's not smart enough. Seems like I was right.

The "surface voters" I now disdain? I guess I was one of those during Clinton and Bush because I didn't get into the weeds and know the back story of issues enough - it's why I never voted until last year - I never felt confident that I knew enough to do so.

However, I did notice the difference in reporting and determined that the media was out for blood with Bush. Call it BDS, or just bigger microphones, but I remember such vitriol, that was indeed personal, directly aimed at Bush.

20% of the country is trying to convince the "middle" that ALL objection to Obama's policies are racial, and it's disgusting. Instead of the media sayng the President is the idiot {ala Bush} it's now US who are the idiots, and they frequently tell us so.

Saying "they started it" solves nothing. The real solution is to rid ourselves of all this "nuance" and "back story" bs so those who don't have the time/inclination to learn this "art" can be TRULY informed.

Charles is correct, the left does have BDS, but identifying the problem is only step one. I'm hoping instead of giving up, our "leaders" take it to the next step.

The government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.

Lib hypocrisy

Submitted by SaguaroJack on Sat, 04/30/2011 - 2:05pm.

Liberals can't help themselves. They just HAVE to have one set of rules for themselves and another for everyone else. They get to say anything they please. Everyone else has to carefully pick their way thru the minefields of political correctness.

As Jonah Goldberg says: Liberals can't win a fair fight.

It's libs who use the f-bomb, including in their presidential candidates (John Effen Kerry). It's libs who march in those disgusting Gay Pride parades; at which conservative gays are just as irritated as anybody else. It's libs who use ethnic slurs in public. It's libs who destroy private property and shout down people they disagree with.

I once credited libs with sincerity. I no longer can. A lib is either nuts or a liar or weak in the head, or all three. The sole exception would be those who are still too young to know better.

You were born American. That's the best break anybody ever got.

Notice how they all start

Submitted by mattm on Sat, 04/30/2011 - 2:57pm.

Notice how they all start yapping at the same time the second Krauthammer exposes them?

The truth to a lib is like salt to a snail.

I don't know if anyone else remembers this...

Submitted by pbthinker on Sat, 04/30/2011 - 11:03pm.

Right after Barack Obama won, there were a couple of Democrats who, rather sheepishly, made comments about how terrible George Bush was treated and they hoped the Republicans would be adults and not try to get even.....

It was pretty pathetic to watch, especially since these guys waiting until the end of George Bush's presidency to speak up, but the facts are out there. Thanks to Charles Krauthammer for pointing it out to the libs, who will always try and change the facts. The thing is the press gave them a free ride, and even assisted on some of it, so what can you say?

Vote Republican - Then you'll only be called a racist one more time.
