Cokie Roberts: People Call Obama Muslim Because They Can't Say 'I Don't Like Him Cause He's Black'
By Noel Sheppard | April 24, 2011 | 11:06
ABC devoted its entire "This Week" on Easter Sunday to "God and Government," and not surprisingly the question of President Obama's faith prominently entered the discussion.
When it did, Cokie Roberts said, "The bad part about this is that it's acceptable to say that he's a Muslim because the same people won't say, 'I don't like him cause he's black'" (video follows with transcript and commentary):
STEVE ROBERTS: The word Muslim is a code word, and it's a metaphor. It's a metaphor for racism. It's a metaphor for he's different from us, he's not like us, he's got this funny name, which he says all the time. And it is - and he's an alien on some level. But this goes back to our earlier discussion, that there has always been a strain of America that wants to exclude the other. Exclude someone who's different...
(CROSSTALK)
COKIE ROBERTS: But - but - but the bad part about this...
(CROSSTALK)
ROBERTS, S.: But in the long run, the forces of...
(CROSSTALK)
ROBERTS, C.: Right. But - but...
(CROSSTALK)
RICHARD LAND, SOUTHERN BAPTIST CONVENTION: Forty seven percent of white people voted for him.
Actually, it's 43 percent, but still a spectacular point by Land that most on the panel missed and most in the country ignore. They also forget that shortly after his inauguration, Obama's favorability rating was around 75 percent. That includes a lot of white people as well.
What the media just can't get their hands around is that disapproval of Obama today isn't because he's black - it's because of his policies. Or do the 70 percent of the country that now believe the nation is on the wrong track also feel this way because the President is black?
ROBERTS, C.: But - but the bad part about this is that he - that - that it's acceptable to say that he's a Muslim...
EBOO PATEL, INTERFAITH YOUTH CORE: That's right.
ROBERTS, C.: ...because the same people won't - won't say, "I don't like him cause he's black." So it's - it's - and - and the fact that it's acceptable to dislike him because he's a Muslim is the problem that you were talking about.
Calling Americans racist, despite there being an African-American in the White House, is acceptable on Easter Sunday.
I doubt I'm the only one that felt this was highly inappropriate on such a holy day.

The moment that I saw that the Catholic representative on this little panel was Cokie Roberts ... I knew where it was going. Despite my better judgment, I listened for a while, and wasn't disappointed.
Today is Easter. ABC decided that it was that day in the calendar to talk about religion, which is rather insulting to the non-Christian religions, if you ask me. And on this most important day of the Christian calendar, we heard a panel of smug liberals tell us Christians that we're intolerant.
For the last few months, especially during the Wisconsin protests, we conservatives have been yelled at, cursed at, threatened, and demeaned ... of which was forgotten by this moronic little panel of experts on religion, and then we Christians were informed how intolerant we are.
When the media addresses religion, it exposes how shallow they are.
Let me get this out of the way.....
Submitted by nonncom on Mon, 04/25/2011 - 8:24am.
I dislike obama for one reason....he is a bad president, with policies that aren't working, and go against the grain of Americans.....I neither care about his color or his religion, as long as he is doing the job....however, when he fails to do the job, the question becomes, is it possible he is failing BECAUSE he is black, or BECAUSE he is a Muslim?....I think those are fair questions to ask, as a person's background plays heavily on who he associates with (read Vann Jones and Bill Ayres, among others) and the way you form your views on different ideologies...I would hope, in this day and age, a man can overcome his personal prejudices and be able top do the job he was elected to do....unfortunately, the media refuses to acknowledge that the real racist may be occupying the White House...
Red Herring.

Ah, the wonders of a red herring argument. It is always so easy to sound smart and score points when you argue against something that your opponjent hasn't said.
Cokie, people won't say, "I don't like him cause he's black." because theat isn't why they dislike him. They dislike him because he is a Chicago thug politician who is trampling the constitution.
Now, the question should be why do you like him specifically beacuse he's black?
People like Cokie

say "it's because he is black" for one simple reason - they have no other way to refute the arguments put to them.
There was a candidate in the 2008 election that was just as crooked and just as Marxist as Soetoro. His name is John Edwards. Were he elected in 2008, would Cokie be saying opposition to his policies came about because he is white? Of course not.
Soetoro was born a Muslim - According to Islam itself. If Cokie had any clue about the real face of Islam, she would address this reality. But alas, all she has to offer is a trite race card that is so overused no that when true racism exists, it will be ignored.
She is right about one thing though, Soetoro is different from us. Barry doesn't believe in the Constitution and the First Principles within that document or those within the Declaration of Independence. This isn't because he is half black, because he was born a Muslim, or because he has a set of funny names. It is because he has made a Individual choice, one he would deny the rest of those who do not agree with his backward thinking mentality, to believe Individual Liberty and personal responsibility themselves are wrong, flawed, and absent merit. He believes in top down dictation of the elite ruling over the unwashed masses.
Inappropriate? Nah, just a flat out lie told over and over again trying to set up a mulligan of the 2008 white guilt required to get this Anti American Zealot elected in the first place. Soetoro is a joke and Cokie, so are you.

It's beyond stupid. Here's some questions, just off the top of my head. How did this group become so damn smart? Who did they poll or interview to reach their conclusions? Why the fuss about him being a Muslin - he was one; and so now he's a Christian. Who really cares? Here's another observation, the things most discussed about Obama is his faith and his paper trail, both of which he has gone to great lengths to preclude anyone from obtaining information. has anyone asked him why? Anyone? All the nonsense about his stupid birth certificate could have been resolved years ago with a little candor; let's not forget his scholastic records - it was okay to rummage thru George Bush's life and historical documents, but not Barry - you're a racist for asking a question about him.

I believe he is neither a Muslim or a Christian, and I don't believe he ever was either. I think Obama is whatever Obama needs to be to get whatever attention Obama wants at the moment. Submitted by jon_torlin on Sun, 04/24/2011 - 11:55am.
If I were to say "I don't like him because he's black," it wouldn't be correct because he's NOT black except in a small part. Hell, it'd be more correct to say he's white because he's mostly white.(50%) The other two is African Arab and then a very small part African Negro(that means black).
I have to disagree with the idea that he's neither Christian nor Muslim for the simple reason of his beliefs that we have seen, one of which is a very very VERY low value on life.(give Grandma a pain pill) Then there's that infamous quote/correction during his "interview" with Stephie where he mentions "My muslim faith" before Georgie corrected him (very quickly I should note) saying "your Christian faith." There are many other things that he does that are in line with the Muslims too, but that's more than I want to type.
But he's also very narcissistic which doesn't help him in any way and it tends to override other things, especially when he gives a lecture (when doesn't he give a lecture, oh yeah, when he's not talking) and it's about "I me my" and God knows we've seen a ton of that.
So in the end, I don't like him PERIOD. Never have, NEVER will.

Cokie Roberts is the pride of Hale and Lindey Boggs a deep segregationist and racist clan out of New Orleans. She was raised in a racist family and saw her father win more then one election with ballots that were stored in the basement of their home.
Cokie is a racist she was when she was younger a liaison between her family's political powers and the American Independent Party which was founded by George Wallace. Hale Boggs was also an alcoholic who known for his sudden disappearances in the house when he went to dry out.
Cokie should be more concerned about the racist past of her and her family then what others think or feel. Cokie is disgusting.

When the Clintons had their little 'bimbo eruptions' cokie was one of the first to declare that 'It' a personal thing, and everybody does it...'
"Everybody" in this case would be a relative thing.
"Everybody" in her circle of friends and associates, including cokie and her family, may have done it, as she suggested, but that does NOT INCLUDE the "Everybody else that does not indulge in that type of activity".
If her husband slept around, and she slept around with all their friends, that has nothing to do with the rest of the People.
Or... maybe, cokie did not realize that her statements could be construed to point directly back at her.
Either way, she's about as dumb as any of clintons bimbos.

Hi. It's me. Say, you made a statement that I am still waiting for you to clarify. You stated The Constitution REQUIRES both parents to be CITIZENS. This is an outrageous statement as it was common knowledge all during the campaign in 2008 that President Obama only had one American citizen as a parent and yet no one of consequence made any issue of it. Now, you made this assertion over a year ago on the old NewsBusters and failed to back it up. Again, you have made this assertion, and I proved it was false just like I did over a year ago.
I am officially requesting you kindly stop running off to post somewhere else on another topic when you have not settled this issue. Kindly prove your assertion. I have done my part to show it is patently false in the original blog of the New NewsBusters, And in a second blog where you brought forward a quote from a man that has since admitted to his error.
I don't think it is very nice to make a blatantly false accusation, insult people when they prove it is wrong and then flit off to post again somewhere else leaving the people that showed you were false in your assertions high and dry. Not very fair or nice at all.
I am a patient man Mr. Johnson. I await your evidence proving the President of the United States is constitutionally unqualified for office when everyone else on the planet knew he was qualified in advance of the election.
I await your evidence. Please go back to the original blog and post it there.

"in 2008, the New York Times led the "birther" craze.
They were pushing the idea that there were serious questions of constitutional eligibility for a man running for president that year.
That man was Sen. John McCain. Now, I didn't support McCain for the presidency. I didn't vote for him. I even wrote a book urging Americans not to vote for him. But McCain had served in the House and Senate for 26 years. It was his second bid for the presidency. America knew the man inside out – including his birth in Panama when his father, an American citizen, was serving in the Navy. They also knew his mother was an American citizen.
But, for the Times, this was the right "birther" moment.
The media concern over McCain's eligibility actually led to hearings in the U.S. Senate that concluded he was eligible for one reason – both of this parents were American citizens. McCain had to show the Senate his long-form birth certificate to prove he was eligible. The motion carried 99-0 with one abstention, John McCain. Barack Obama co-sponsored the affirmative resolution declaring McCain eligible.
But that was then and this is now.
The Times never once questioned Obama's eligibility during the campaign. It never reported on those who did. It never asked for proof of Obama's eligibility. The flimsiest evidence was accepted on faith.
Question: Were both of Obama's parents American citizens?
Answer: No, according to Obama. He says his father was a Kenyan visiting student, a subject of the United Kingdom, who would have transferred U.K. citizenship to his son, if indeed Barack Hussein Obama I were his father. But we don't even know that with certainty, because the only eyewitness document that would confirm Obama's story is the long-form, contemporaneous form he refuses to release to the public. Furthermore, if Stanley Ann Dunham were actually his birth mother, she may have been too young to confer U.S. citizenship upon Obama, making him not a dual citizen but a U.K. citizen only. "

That was the conclusion to which you leaped, from Noel's comment about how inappropriate Cokie's accusation was against white Christians. Personally, I find it inappropriate every day.....accusing those who dislike Obama and his policies of being racist. It's lower than low.
Now kindly explain how Noel's unhappiness morphed to suspending "touchy news shows....for all religious holidays".

Noel said he thought stating people who claim they don't like Obama because he's a Muslim is really because they don't want to say it's because he's black was inappropriate.

What is wrong with the 50% Caucasian part that the media cannot see it?
IS it a racial hatred in the media that chooses to ignore the 3/8ths AFRICAN ARAB?
Why is it that the media keeps refusing to acknowledge that their messiah has no roots in common with the descendents of the slave trade?
Why do they never mention that barrys ancestors probably captured and sold slave to Americans?

That Obungler claimed to have wet dreams about when he was a toddler---about the time the drunk ran out on his mother and had Bill Ayers ghost-write a book for himself---being too lazy and incompetent and a ganja-slacker to meet a deadline with publishers---that's the guy who was probably descended from Arab slavers who lived in the part of Kenya where the drunk Obama daddy hailed from.
And mommy's family also dealt in the slave business, being from the part of "Bleeding Kansas" that harbored Confederate sympathizers just before the Civil War.
Maybe that's why Obama, after he took a radical turn, did not come to her deathbed in the late nineties because of "scheduling conflicts." Quite a family life this miserable lying POS has had and seems to take after the worst parts of both sides----BS, mood-altering drugs and political chicanery on daddy's side; feckless idealism wedded to a schizophrenic cynicism---a dog's breakfast of contradictions---on mommy's side, enuf to keep him estranged so that he skipped her dying agony. And ok, some portion of the people who think he's Muslim are anti-Obama and are stuck on that issue. Rather than its because he was black, I think its more because Obama did a great deal to avoid a broad discussion of his childhood in Indonesia even as he gave select interviews to sources like the NY Times where he praised Muslim services; and the fact that he's very pro-Muslim and hung out with certain radicals in Chicago.
Put it another way.. the people who are anti-Obama and obsessed with seeing him as a Muslim probably would vote for Colin Powell, or Condoleeza Rice, or any other black figure, depending on their politics.

It's still a fake issue because, despite this apparent bigotry over Obama's alleged religion (or his race, depending on which false argument the liberals are using), he STILL was elected President! And, since he has taken office, there's been no calls for Impeachment because of his race, nor of his religion. Yes, a few people may believe, rightly or wrongly, that Obama is a Muslim, but that is NOT an issue. His race isn't an issue ether, for nether "issue" is affecting his ability to perform his duties as President in the slightest. Those are false assertions by people like Cokie and Steve, who are trying to create a controversy, make this an "issue," for their own benefit.

Most Americans are only half-informed about politics at best, so its not surprising that you find misunderstandings like this The disbelief I think comes from people who are into politics 24/7 not understanding the perspective of those who aren't.
A lot of that is helped out by news bias, which is one of the things Newsbusters is for. The way people perceive the church pedophilia issue is helped out by the way liberal sources report it and the fact that conservative media (like Fox) continue to choose not to offer a contrary perspective. A lot of its unavoidable, though. Barack Obama has a very unusual background, to say the least, so its not surprising some Americans don't understand who the man is.
The suspicions about him are not his fault, of course. However, I think he could have campaigned in a way that could have addressed all of these issues and nipped them in the bud. I think he didn't trust that the American people would accept him if he came out and said he was raised in a Muslim environment, so he addressed it very sheepishly. Nor did he trust that Americans would understand his associations in the Chicago university culture so he avoided that topic also. Then, he attacked people who dared approach that topic.
In my view he did exactly the opposite of what he should have done. If he came out from day one and said "I have some understanding of Muslims because I went to mosques, etc when I was young, but Islam didn't suit my views of the world" Americans would have accepted that. The American people aren't children.

or perhaps lack of moral character and a cynical oblique take on the very mature American electorate---by the standards of a country like Indonesia where he attended a Muslim school and where his father listed Barry Soetero's religious affiliation as "Muslim." Just the fact that he listed this was weird, since the school was not technically a madrasa which wouldn't have accepted a non-Muslim and since his zany mother was going through a Catholic phase at the time. So was the father refuting the mother by marking little Barack down as a Muslim? I don't care about the marital squabbles.
What I do care about is the distinct possibility that the combination of a zany questing mother who'd pose naked under a Christmas tree and the genes of a drunken con-man as his birth daddy-----coupled with a bizarre Muslim step-dad who sends him to a predominantly Muslim school [not a religious madrasa] to fend off a Catholic education his confused mom might have put him through [she home-schooled him at one point, if I remember correctly] --- all this "diversity" might have left deep psychic anomalies in a guy who shot from obscurity to President in less than a decade. His resume even in the States is pathetically thin, with missing parts such as his GPA, senior thesis at ColumbiaU, absence of a writing sample during his tenure as President [an honorific] of the Harvard Law Journal, and subsequent non-professor job [he was a lowly adjunct, with one class] in the U of Chicago Law School [where his fellow teachers maintain he got his adjunct non-job due to pressure from the Board of Regents].
All of this rightly makes us question whether this guy should have been elected in the first place, since the non-vetting of his background was conspicuous by its thoroughness...! Indeed, when Hannity outed this phony as a friend of Bill Ayers [who now hints that he might have ghosted "Dreams of My Father" by condemning the other book Obama had ghosted for himself as a "political hack job"] and the true radical insanity of Obama's "mentor," Rev. Wright, all of these incredible oversights and rapid condemnations of Hannity for revealing this fraud's fakery, should have alerted an electorate to Obama's bizarre past and dubious qualifications.
The reasons this didn't happen are manifold, and best summed up in the following Townhall blog post:

It is clearly an effort to deflect attention away from the obvious damage Obama has done in order to get him re-elected in 2012.
They are fully aware of the country's view of Obama as inept, socialistic and just plain wrong and they are trying to find a way to say his detractors are wrong. They see his approval ratings steadily declining and defend him with false arguments, since the real, honest arguments are completely valid.
This panel and the left in general who show their desperation with this kind of dishonesty only intensify the resolve of Obama's opponents. To say "I don't like him because he has lied to the American People about nearly everything since he was elected."?
To say "I don't like him because of the underhanded, illegal authorities he has granted to unlawfully appointed 'czars"?
To say "I don't like him because the media treats him as though he is a God and will do anything to protect him even lying to the American People in the face of overwhelming evidence that he is a fraud"
To say "I do not like him because his sole skill in this world is being able to read a teleprompter well, but inarticulate when he does not have a teleprompter telling what to say."?

Obama's unpopularity rests on his own shoulders. He is a black using skin color for race baiter and personal capital. He is a communist instigator of distribution of wealth living in a democratic country. He is a muslim acting as a Christian under advise from the Bilderberg Group. He is a documented liar - he pledged to end the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars, then created a near miss in Egypt and interfered with Libya as if America is the protectorate of the world. Let all the Mideastern countries flail and fall - just keep giving more ammo to BOTH sides so these muslim extremists will be thinned out! Cokie Roberts, whose father was Hale Boggs, can talk about saying one thing when you can't say another. She tried to claim, one time, that blacks told her father, they understood why he couldn't vote for the civil rights act of 1964 and the voting rights act of 1965. Yes, it takes a lot to not have the political courage to do what's right.
It's people like her, who will justify everything Democrats did to blacks, who love to claim the inside track on knowing what other people are thinking. Well, people believe Obama's a Muslim because he's never really displayed any of the characteristics of a Christian. He sat in a church for 20 years and never heard the pastors sermons. Many black liberation theologists are closer to black muslims than they are to Christians, but that has nothing to do with this conversation, because if you say President Obama "could" be a muslim you really want to say you don't like him because he's black.
Hey, Cokie, do you think 9% unemployment, the price of gasoline, the Rahming through of a health care plan people didn't want, and his policy of legislating around our representatives had a little something to do with it. He's shown he's capable of stretching the truth so why should anyone believe he's not a Muslim. Any bets that his birth certificate says, in that little space that says religion, Muslim????

Cry me a river. Oh, lawdy lawdy. Everybody is so racist against poor Mr. Obama. Yeah right. The truth of the matter is that Obama is a mysterious man who nobody really knows anything about. Nothing has gotten better with Obama as President. The debt has gone up. America is in more wars now than when Bush was in office and Obama sold the idea that he was against war. People don't like the idea that Obama bad-mouthed Bush for certain policies and yet Obama is doing the same things.

I hate Obama's lobster eating, golf playing guts, but then I hated Hitler too. Frankly there is only one distinct difference between the two. Obama is an arrogant Marxist white-hating, anti-Semite, inexperienced, amateurish putz, and Hitler was a genius but the result will be the same. We have a state owned press, nationalized health care on the way with the goal to kill the elderly and those with catastrophic illnesses to save more money so we can treat illegal aliens and those who refuse to work but follow the Marxist dictator so they can keep their status quo entitlement state. I think we all know who that is, but in case you don't it is the predominant black community. If that makes me a racist, then so be it I am a racist. Come and get me Rev Jackass and Rev Zoot suit Sharpton. Do I hate Cokie Roberts for being white - no I hate her for the same reason I hate the Marxist in Chief; she's a card carrying, liberal race card player and a moron who blindly follows a charismatic dictator; just like people did in Germany in the 30s. Maybe instead of running interference for a Hitler wanna be it might be a better use of her time to try and investigate the sudden rise in gasoline prices and explain to America the rationale that Bush's high oil prices were his fault because he was elevating the prices to benefit his oil company cronies. What's Obama's excuse. His statement on the rising gasoline prices was "get used to it." Could it be that the Marxist in Chief sees the destruction of the economy as another way to bring down America? Why isn't this oil crisis Obama's fault?

I don't like BHO, not because of his race, nor his purported faith ( or faiths ), but because of his own words and actions.
An abler man than myself would have already presented a bill of particulars to each and every sitting member of the House of representatives regarding BHO's actions, and augmented it as time passed.
The man is not incompetent, but he is doctrinaire, and his doctrine is the disabling, if not destruction, of this country as it was before he sullied the White House with his presence. His activities, so far as I have been able to suss them out are two fold:
1: to cause sufficent alarm and unrest to where he can justify to a no longer candid world his sending of the military against American citizens, and impose martial law.
or
2: to impose sufficent and many laws and legislative penalty onto producing, working Americans as to keep them beat down beyond hope or resistance with aid of the nonproducing and nonworking. Said aid purchased with the penalties and taxes exacted fron the producing and working.
He's not a genius, but he is not a dolt, either. Those who think he is acting out of incompetence are, IMO, at best incompletely informed, and at worst giving aid and comfort to the enemes of the United States.

I have to agree with someone above that said the only thing I actually liked about him was the fact that he is black! That way we could get over all this race card playing and unequal justice that has permeated our society. Joke was on me though. I think Cokie has a tingle for the Obamster and it is running a lot further up her leg than Chrissy Matthews' tingle is. She just can't say that on TV and given her history and family background I would bet the thought of all those stereotypical myths about folks of certain ethnic backgrounds has crossed her mind a time or two. Technically if she is correct and I am willing to entertain that idea, then I only dislike half of him right? I don't think he is all of anything, he isn't white, he isn't black, he isn't Christian he isn't Muslim, he is kind of everything and nothing at all really. Why do people like Cokie Roberts get off freely saying crap like that. In her world I suppose you are totally in love with every person who enters a room. Get a life Cokie. I'll wager that there a numerous "persons" whom you do not get along with, and get annoid with the things they say or do.
Well, how come we as a public can't disagree with Obama and his judgements. Is he above reproach or is he annointed above ridicule. Cokie, the Soccer Mom Affect is coming out of you. Mr. Obama is a big boy now. And he entered politics where his job as a politician is to explain himself to the vast numbers of society to engage them to vote Democrat. On the other hand he is going to say or annoy other types of political people who are opposed to his version of the "yellow brick road". In these circumstances Mr. Obama will be questioned and verbally told to jump of a tall pier. But that's life in the world of politics.
But to assert Cokie that I can 't question a person like Obama or it might offend his ethnic origins is just so flagrantly false. In fact its quite outrageous on her part to assume behind every rock is a KKK member. Well, there isn't Cokie. And our "Choosen One" does a pretty good job alienating people from the bulk of society towards him. But you cement it more by baiting race versus substance.
