Bill Maher Tells Rachel Maddow He Hates Republicans as Much as She Does

Bill Maher Tuesday made a statement on MSNBC that would be truly embarrassing for the so-called news network if any of its executives cared at all about being an impartial disseminator of information.

At the end of an almost thirteen minute interview with Rachel Maddow, the comedian said of Republicans, "I hate them as much as you do" (video follows with commentary):

As readers would expect, what preceded Maher's final assertion was his typical Republican bashing of his usual targets such as Ronald Reagan as well as the newest object of his disaffection, Congressman Paul Ryan (R-Wisc.).

This was all the predictable, GOP-hating fare that one is bludgeoned with when HBO's "Real Time" is in session. The only things out of the ordinary were the venue and the response from the host.

If Maddow wanted to preserve even the slightest appearance of impartiality and journalistic integrity, instead of laughing like a hyena when Maher said he hates Republicans as much as she does, she would have countered by stating that she just disagrees with conservative viewpoints, but doesn't hold any animosity towards those on the opposite side of the aisle.

If she had even a shred of journalistic sense in her body, Maddow would have made it clear to her audience that she doesn't hate Republicans at all.

Since she didn't, one has to conclude that Maher's right, and not only does Maddow despise a large percentage of the nation, she's also comfortable allowing it to be aired on the very "news network" she's employed by.

Quite a statement, don't you think?

Makes you wonder what kind of a business model exists at this network where it is acceptable for its employees to disparage such a large percentage of the possible audience. As it is the goal of any company to expand its market share, it's considered bad for business to insult and demean potential customers, especially such a large swath of them.

Does MSNBC not care about this? Ditto NBC, GE and Comcast? What kind of an environment exists in this organization where its employees are given license to antagonize such a large portion of possible patrons?

Of possibly utmost importance, how can she be allowed to participate in any primary or election coverage in the future if she's not willing to counter an on-air claim that she hates Repubicans?

It would be from this point forward categorically absurd for MSNBC to allow her to be involved in any events where her antipathy toward the GOP could cloud her commentary. This of course assumes the network she represents actually cares about such a thing, which at this point seems highly doubtful.

As much as it pains me to say, congratulations are in order to Maher as he unknowingly and quite likely unintentionally exposed just how biased Maddow and the station she represents are.

Bandwagon

Submitted by Jerry Mack on Wed, 04/13/2011 - 1:28am.

Madcow is Msdnc's one hope of attracting the band wagon hoppers that log onto Daily kos, Move on, et al and building a decent audience for the network. It is and has been obvious since she has been on the air that she has no credibility as an impartial journalist. She is a shill.

That would be the Epic Fail business model.

They apparently have no clue as to how to attract neutral viewers, as FoxNews obviously does. If they are deliberately a bunch of leftist polemicists, that's fine, but new owner ComCast had better sign off on this policy or MadCow and her buddies Larry Overdose & Flaming Redhead Ed the talking horse will be part of a sad historical failure of an NBC affiliate worthy of having a "Downfall" spoof made of them on YouTube.

Parenthetically, the metaphor "hyena" applied to MadCow is curiously appropriate, as hyenas are strictly matriarchal with the Alpha female loaded with testosterone to the point where false male genitals appear on her lower parts, while the male hyenas are reduced to helpless drones. Makes so much sense for Newsbusters to call MadCow a hyena that it's a biological slam dunk.

Badge of Honor

Submitted by Burnside on Wed, 04/13/2011 - 5:33am.

I don't know about anyone else but, for my money, to be hated by these two douchebags is a massive badge of honor.

I love the fact they hate us, as it will make kicking their asses next year all the sweeter as we see them cry their baby eyes out on MSLSD and scream something about "voter fraud."

Hmm, a warm glow of anticipation has settled over me already...

the hate

Submitted by kinijane on Wed, 04/13/2011 - 6:46am.

And therein lies the problem with this country today, no liberal will allow any opinion but their own, everyone else is wrong, People like Maher can call people names, trash everything they say and do and try to make the rest of the world look like fools. Say what you want about Rush, Sarah and the rest but I have yet to hear one of them call someone else a bad name, wish them dead or some of the other junk I have heard from the left. The tea party is labeled as raciest, homophobes, etc. but they have done their homework, studied history and no amount of trash talk from the left will change that regardless of how much they try. So just who is it that is causing the division? Next question, does anyone other than news buster listen to those people?

Keep Maher's and Maddow's

Keep Maher's and Maddow's statements here in mind whenever one of them claims, as they do from time to time, "I don't hate anyone" (or words to that effect).

My Mom Taught Me a Very Long Time Ago...

Submitted by Fenwick on Wed, 04/13/2011 - 11:08am.

When I was little, I often flippantly used the word "hate" until my Mom explained to me that hate is a very strong word and that I really don't hate anything. To this day, I am very cautious about using the word, reserving it only for things like mayonnaise and never for people. (I may loathe Obama's and the Left's agendas, but I do not hate them.)

In the same vein, it concerns me whenever a whole group is demonized and blamed for multiple ills in the country or the world because it is a dangerous road that, as history shows us, potentially leads to horror. Like never before, I see the Left openly doing this to "Republicans" and "The Rich" to the extent that it has become pervasive - and obviously funny, too.

HATE: A Liberal Value

Submitted by telecaster on Wed, 04/13/2011 - 12:24pm.

They hate Republicans? How enlightening, as if we didn't already know. This is news in what way? Hate is the strong suit of these two.....hate from a lesbian who demands tolerance for her lifestyle and hate from a washed up comedian who thinks he knows something about politics. Hate....it worked for Hitler, Stalin and Mao......why not for msnbc?
