SNL Bashes ‘Fox & Friends’ Hosts as Dumb, Fear-Spreading Racists

By Noel Sheppard | April 10, 2011 | 11:16

NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” went after the Fox News Channel again, this time depicting the hosts of the network's morning show as dumb, fear-mongering racists.

Saturday’s sketch began with an announcer stating, “You’re watching ‘Fox & Friends’ – coffee, smiles, fear and terror” (video follows with commentary):

After the introduction, the regulars were seated on the couch with Steve Doocy played by Jason Sudeikis, Vanessa Bayer as Gretchen Carlson, and Bobby Moynihan as Brian Kilmeade.

The first topic was the averted government shutdown, with Bayer taking a shot at President Obama. Moynihan followed by incorrectly saying this would have been the first time such a thing had ever happened in American history.

Not sure this was correct, the opinion of a totally hapless fact-checker was solicited, and he proceeded to just fumble papers onto the floor, salute them, and not offer any help whatsoever.

From there, the panel took a shot at Michelle Obama’s child obesity awareness program followed by Bayer making some racist comments about Mexicans.

Then, guest Helen Mirren was introduced as a drunk, anti-illegal immigration advocate from Arizona who proceeded to tell an absurd reverse anchor baby yarn that Mexicans are kidnapping pregnant American women to have them birth their children in Mexico as - horrors! - Mexicans.

Next, the gang decided to show their birth certificates, but Moynihan’s was a gift certificate from Dave and Buster’s.

To wrap up the sketch, despite previously presenting their fact-checker as a hapless moron, a long list of errors they made in the first two hours of the program was scrolled on the screen.

Add it all up, and in SNL’s view, these three hosts are just dumb, fear-mongering racists.

Sounds like the way America's media have depicted the Tea Party the last two years, doesn't it?

Still the funniest political SNL skit ever.

Submitted by The Vet on Sun, 04/10/2011 - 2:22pm.

President Reagan was portrayed by the media as old, confused, befuddled and out of touch.

SNL played against the type and made the funniest skit ever.

SNL drug of choice?

Submitted by MaximusBraveheart on Mon, 04/11/2011 - 12:15pm.

I wonder if they dropped the rampant (admitted) coke use and are using straight up progressivism as their mind numbing drug of choice?

I doubt it but they sure are not funny now. That stupid repetitive lady is as non-funny as Rosanne Rosannadanna. The Bass-O-Matic seemed pretty funny at the time!

Now THAT would be funny ...

Submitted by metaphorsbwithu on Sun, 04/10/2011 - 11:33am.

Humor is supposed to have some basis in reality.

If this were a parody on how liberals perceive conservatives, say they were taking a valid statement or argument and twisting it into a bigoted/racist one, that would be funny.

Or show a comedy writer meeting illustrating how liberals think up ways to mock intelligent views by making them appear ignorant and bigoted.

That would be funny ... sad, but funny.

NewsBusted has made me think we should have our own TV network as big as the LSM. There is lots of good comedy material as suggested above.

And what makes it so doable is that you don't really have to exaggerate or make things up to be funny, just basically repeat what they really say, think and do.

My liberal friends just HATE when I do that.

Even the left wing New York

Submitted by Thoreau on Sun, 04/10/2011 - 11:59am.

Even the left wing New York aholes in the audience weren't laughing. When people are dying on the border and the Mexican Army is taking their cartel cargo into US territory with .50 cal's- it's stops being funny.

But it's all academic to left wing d-bag New Yorker's. They only had their buildings blown up and 3000 people incinerated. And then a Victory Mosque built on top of their degenerate smoldering corpses.

Oh wait, they blamed Bush for that- not muslims. Right. Why be accurate and truthful, when you can live in medicated delusions of ignorance. I guess it's really not that funny after all is it.

SNL is Pathetic

Submitted by dpc1212 on Sun, 04/10/2011 - 12:43pm.

SNL is a pathetic excuse for a comedy show. They really phoned this episode in. The opening skit with Obama was probably the lamest unfunniest opening ever. And this skit was painful to sit through even for liberal idiots who drink the MSM kool aid about Fox and the Tea Party. I don't think they even try to be funny. They are just trying to indoctrinate young viewers. "Fox lies. Fox is racist. Fox is only seen by ignorant, drunk white morons who love America and salute the flag. How uncool."
I wish there was a skit show like this that parodied the left. There is much more hypocrisy and outrageous behavior on the left and the MSM that could be lampooned and could actually be funny too.

for original contents but when all they have left if to bash the right they truly are dead inside. Really..."Fox and Friends" is in your target??

Submitted by gopcongress on Sun, 04/10/2011 - 1:20pm.

Nothing against the show "Fox and Friends," I find it a light-hearted take on the news, but in reality, I never considered it more than a conservative "fluff" show more than anything. Kind of what Dennis Miller would do if he were on Fox, for instance.

So for SNL to have to reach far from the "serious" level of conservative pillar-ism to lambaste is really stretching it for them. The only time I'll ever watch that show again is if Betty White is on the show. No wonder "Hot in Cleveland" seemingly gets better numbers.

I stopped watching SNL years ago...

Submitted by PrairieSky on Sun, 04/10/2011 - 1:44pm.

It's a shame what has happened to SNL. I grew up watching this show, from its beginning in the '70's, and loved it. Over the years, as the cast has changed, it's gone through good times and bad, but the crews that have been on there for the last about 10 years or so have been pretty bad overall. I tune in from time to time to see what they're doing, but they're just not funny anymore...They substitute crudeness for humor much of the time. And the political bias is pretty much on display most of the time...Like most in the rest of the media, SNL leans left, but they do take shots at Obama from time to time, though that is pretty rare. I just wish they'd stow the political bias, and concentrate on being funny...That would be a welcome change, and until that happens, I won't be watching.

SNL RIP

Submitted by Unsane on Sun, 04/10/2011 - 9:24pm.

SNL also does something very irritating - patting themselves on the back constantly for being a groundbreaking American institution.  All fine and good, but for me this show died in 1993, when Mr. Greatthings took office.  I haven't watched a single show in its entirety since 1996, when I suffered through a painfully unfunny show.

Agreed...Although I do think that SNL...

Submitted by PrairieSky on Mon, 04/11/2011 - 4:27pm.

was groundbreaking, those behind the show do love to pat themselves on the back, a lot, about that fact. Anyone about 50 years old and up remembers well the stir that SNL made when it began...There was really nothing else like it at that time. The closest thing that I can compare it to around the same time period might have been Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In (although Laugh-In ran from '68-'73, and SNL began in '75). That show was similarly comically irreverent and also took shots at popular culture and politics.

The SNL of today bears little resemblance to the SNL of years ago, which is a shame. I can remember back in the day of being out on a Saturday night and of wanting to try to get home in time to catch the show. That unfortunately is no longer the case.

Swing And A Miss

Submitted by rammingspeed on Sun, 04/10/2011 - 1:49pm.

SNL, a sh*tpit of conservative hating scumbags, uses an insane stereotype of Fox News to make a joke, and falls flat on it's imperious, arrogant, and just plain stupid ass. (In order for a joke to work, it has to be based on truth.) Swing and a miss (as Dennis Miller adroitly says about bad jokes), and an instant trip back to the minors. (Or, an outright release from the biz, as far as I'm concerned.)

Gretchen Wins

Submitted by Caringwhiteguy on Sun, 04/10/2011 - 2:05pm.

The dumb blonde in the morning is seated next to Joe Scarborough. It's probably not in the cards to expect NBC to be critical of the dolt they have co-hosting Morning Joe. But all three F&F hosts are miles ahead of Mika B. when it comes to brains, brawn or common sense. Also, no doubt Gretchen wins the smarts category over Doocy and Kilmeade.

I HATE this friggin show!

Submitted by brutony1 on Sun, 04/10/2011 - 2:33pm.

My teen son makes me watch this every Sun morning, and maybe he just likes to see my skin crawl and my blood boil everytime they come up with a left-winged sucker punch, which is about every other sketch! Dont forget the cold opening with the worst impression of O'bozo Ive ever heard, and of course the Weekend Update where Liberal Seth Myers always has to insult Republicans-this week it was potential candidates. Naturally, they skip any mistakes or gaffes or arrests by any Demoncraps, because its ALWAYS the conservatives who screw up and are made mockerys of! This show should have been cancelled years ago, and every week it gets worse and worse.

I do have to admit, tho, that Helen Mirran looked pretty good, and made fun of herself, and Abby Elliott showed us a whole new dimension to her "talents'!

Submitted by brutony1 on Sun, 04/10/2011 - 3:34pm.

Anyone see The Sports Reporters? Im ashamed to admit it, but in-between discussing the latest sports stories, they love to throw in liberal digs, what with the left-winged "writers" Mike Lupica , Bob Ryan, Mitch Album, and John Saunders. These has-been hacks cant resist a liberal jibe whenever they can. They were discussing Tiger's fading in the Masters, and while one was lauding him, Lupica, that rag writer so filled with right-winged hatred that the NY Daily Snooze doesnt permit comments about his articles on their website, said that "Everybody thinks Tiger invented everything, including the Tea Party" and then Saunders, that illegal alien from Canada, chimed in to say "Oh, he doesnt want to admit to that!" and the rest laughed! Ha ha-wake me when they say one negative thing about the Dems, their wars and failures, and god forbid, OBowmah!

The guy that played Doocy

Submitted by MCLIJazz on Sun, 04/10/2011 - 6:03pm.

I was just searching Twitter for reactions to this Fox hater caricature of F&F.  I typed in: snl fox and friends.  The tweets were mostly links to Mediaite and Business Insider sprinkled with Fox haters that loved the sketch.  But there was a link to Ken Tucker's review of the entire show at Entertainment Weekly.  He didn't like it.  He also pointed out that it was Taran Killam that played Steve Doocy, not Jason Sudeikis.

Okay- I couldn't quite make it to the two minute mark. Pretty obvious that was a laugh track, and the must've used one from a bombing stand up because there wasn't a whole lot of enthusiasm in it.
