Lawrence O'Donnell Literally Cries On Air Over Possible Defunding of Planned Parenthood

By Noel Sheppard | April 09, 2011 | 13:43

Noel Sheppard's picture

Reading almost directly from Democrat talking points, the so-called "news" network MSNBC spent most of its prime time programming Friday claiming that if the federal government was shut down as a result of a budget impasse, it was because Republicans wanted to defund Planned Parenthood.

Lawrence O'Donnell dutifully did his part in advancing this hysterical nonsense Friday, so much so that after reading a lengthy e-mail message from a poor friend of his that uses this organization's services, "The Last Word" host actually broke down in tears (video follows with transcript and commentary):

LAWRENCE O'DONNELL: I’ve never visited a Planned Parenthood office, so I know little beyond that pie chart about what Planned Parenthood does. But I have friends who depend on Planned Parenthood. One of them currently, an unemployed victim of the great recession, who can’t even afford cable TV to watch this show tonight, sent me an e-mail today saying -- "Stop these whackos."

Her e-mail deserves a place in the Congressional record besides the lies being told about Planned Parenthood. She says: "do they have any idea how expensive birth control is and how important it is for it to be provided to women at Planned Parenthood clinics? A regular prescription for my pill was 98 dollars a month without insurance. And even with insurance, it was 78 dollars through the pharmacy.

"Who can afford that every month? Last summer, through my employer’s insurance, which I lost along with the job, was the first time I’ve ever been to a, quote, ‘real gynecologist,’ a doctor outside of Planned Parenthood. But as a woman, I need an annual exam. Even beyond birth control and my unfortunate and devastating abortion, I’ve needed Planned Parenthood for breast exams.

"My breasts are cystic. Since I was 17, I’ve had small lumps come and go. And through Planned Parenthood, I’ve had three ultrasounds and two mammograms. Presently, I have another large lump that may be more serious. And once again, Planned Parenthood is offering to perform an exam and provide me with additional testing.

"At my current income, these services will most likely be entirely free to me as my birth control now is. In the past, I would pay a donation of my choosing that I determined by my income, which would be at most 20 dollars a visit. In addition, the doctors or nurse practitioners at Planned Parenthood are the only medical doctors I get to see every year.

"I haven’t had a general practitioner in ten years. I haven’t even been able to afford a teeth cleaning from a dentist in five. And I can’t even fathom what it would be like to be able to have a doctor to visit if I get ill.

"To be able to have doctors, nurses services available to me at Planned Parenthood that I would otherwise be unable to afford is a huge relief and burden off my shoulders. Now I’m afraid those services will no longer be available to me.

"It’s terrifying to think that with lack of funds, millions of women wouldn’t have access to this kind of care. I can’t imagine what I would do without Planned Parenthood. Talking about what they do is part of your job right now. So I wanted you no know on a personal level what Planned Parenthood does for me, so it might influence you when you’re on the subject at work.

"I feel my voice is lost and there’s nothing I can do about this situation. Please yell some sense into these people."

This is what liberal media members were willing to do to blame a government shutdown on Republicans.

Never mind that Democrats who controlled both chambers of Congress and the White House had all year last year to create a budget of their own. That's been totally irrelevant to their shills in the media for over 15 months.

As for the Planned Parenthood rider, the lack of this provision was never going to prevent a budget agreement. Instead, this became a totally dishonest rallying cry from Democrat leaders, especially Friday as the deadline approached.

With this in mind, shills like O'Donnell and many others on MSNBC took their marching orders and began foisting this canard on their viewers who probably ate it up like the finest caviar.

So into participating in this charade was O'Donnell that he not only read this e-mail message from his PDA rather than the teleprompter right in front of his face, he also did so with the dramatic effect of fighting back tears until he was almost done.

And this is what passes for journalism at MSNBC.

Of course, these are the same folks that rail against Glenn Beck's tears as well as House Speaker John Boehner's (R-Oh.).

I guess it's okay to cry on the air when you're advancing a lie that might help the Party you support win an upcoming election.

Nice job, Lawrence. Your Hollywood background is surely paying off in your new role as MSNBC commentator/Democrat shill.

Up Down Vote coming up! May

Submitted by MaximusBraveheart on Tue, 04/12/2011 - 11:46am.

Up Down Vote coming up! May help in 2012 election. PLEASE write your Senator TODAY to vote against Federal funding of PP!!! Have them on the record for 2012!

snip: Good article!

While pro-lifers lament Planned Parenthood wasn’t defunded in the final 2011 budget, Harry Reid and Barack Obama threw 7 Senate Democrats under the bus in the process.

Reid and Obama agreed to let the Senate have an up or down vote on defunding PP. We already know such a vote will fail, since 41 Democrats signed a letter on April 4 saying they’d oppose such a measure, making it bullet-proof.

But House Majority Leader John Boehner’s strategy is to force so-called Democrat moderates to go on the record, potentially getting ammo for the 2012 elections.

Why am I paying for this woman's birth control?

Submitted by KC Mulville on Sat, 04/09/2011 - 2:08pm.

Let me get this straight. The woman was unemployed because of the recession, but that means that she had a job before that. Yet she claims that she hadn't been to a GP for 10 years. Basically she's arguing that Planned Parenthood was her cheap medical care provider. She wants the rest of the country to fund her medical care.

She's a free rider. She wants me to fund her birth control.

Or, if she had insurance, which she claims, she didn't bother to schedule an appointment with a GP while she was covered?  Now, it's an emergency, because she won't get her free check-ups?

So because she was a cheapskate, she used PP for free medical care although it wasn't necessary. And what a generous donation...$20. Like you said, why should I have to pay for other people's medical care just for their convenience?

How is she sending this email? Chances are she's not at the public library. She's most likely sending it from her computer at home through the Internet provider she pays. Maybe she should scrap the pc and pay for her own health care.

As far as birth control she shouldn't have sex or should have her partner(s) contribute to the cost of birth control. It's not my job to pay her bills.

Submitted by gadropout on Sat, 04/09/2011 - 3:02pm.

If this woman actually exists and is truthful in her email, then why would she want other women to have "devastating abortion(s)"? Don't any of these libs beleive in adoption? Don't any of these libs believe in charity? Bureaucrats taking earnings from honest people by force and spending it on deadbeats (only after they take their cut) is not charity. Why go to a government or government funded agency for their freebies? Why not ask friends, family or honestly charitable organizations? Is it too shameful? If they receive stolen goods, even those stolen by the government, shouldn't that bring more shame? Are these libs just plain shameless? Are there any democrats/liberals that feel any remorse, shame, responsibility or guilt? Are they all sociopaths? I believe that they are.

Isn't this the same clown that is reported to wear $70 pairs of socks? This guy really expects us to believe that he has a friend, who e-mails or texts him on his phone that is in this dire economic condition? It is extremely unlikely! If it were true, which I highly doubt, why doesn't the SOB help her out instead of crying about it on the air? He is such a phony! Of course he fits right in with that crowd at MSNBC. They (liberal elites) are so out of touch with the common folk that it hasn't occurred to them just how preposterous the basis of this story is. There is no way that this snob personally knows anyone in the USA in this economic condition let alone that he converses regularly with such a person. I work for a living and am far from wealthy. I know I don't regularly converse with anyone who purchases $70 pairs of socks. Larry O'Donnell is a typical arrogant and wealthy elitist snob. "who can’t even afford cable TV to watch this show tonight"

Boo-freakin-who. When did having cable become a staple of success? And since when did birth control become an unalienable right that must be protected?

My wife had adverse emotional responses to the pill and decided not to use it. For the past 7 1/2 years she's charted her cycles to know when she's fertile and when she's not. We now have 2 kids with a 3rd one on the way, and not a single one of them was an accident or surprise. It's called control and responsibility, something the liberals find burdensome.

And what about her "unfortunate and devastating" abortion? I'm sorry, but even before we lost a child that we WANTED during her first trimester, I had little sympathy for people who willingly terminated the life of an unborn child.

But hey, it made O'Donnell cry. That's good enough for the left.

I'm not exactly sure when this loon's hinge pins are going to pop out completely, but I hope Noel is there to record it for posterity.

Rediculous

Submitted by freedomguardian on Sat, 04/09/2011 - 10:27pm.

Oh my gosh... a liberal without cable? Please get that bed-wetter a pacifier!

You can actually live without cable. I don't have cable. I can afford cable, but I choose to read books and newspapers. I also use internet for my news and movie streaming. I also choose to drive a 15 year old car. I can afford to buy a new car, but this one works just fine. I live without a lot of things. So what, I would rather live free and make my own choices than have the government tell me what I can and can't do. These liberals just have no sense of individual responsibility and they just don't want freedom. They want "Big Sugar Daddy" government to take care of all their wants and needs.

Racist like Margaret Sanger

Submitted by buckd on Sat, 04/09/2011 - 10:36pm.

Lawrence O'Donnell like Margaret Sanger who founded Planned Parenthood believes he knows how to limit the over abundance of Negroes (aka Blacks or African Americans) in the District of Columbia. So does he shed tears for the murdered unborn babies or for the growing influence of the Tea Party Conservatives who believe life is sacred?

Tears for Planned parenthood,

Submitted by TerryWest on Sat, 04/09/2011 - 11:36pm.

Tears for Planned parenthood, no such emotion for or headline of thousands of military family's who received only half pay and what struggles in these times that might cause for them not to mention their esstem as they are treated as non essitial polticial bait with abortion funding ranking far above.

Don't touch me (stay out of my womb) just give me your money

Submitted by Rousse on Sat, 04/09/2011 - 11:54pm.

I really don't understand the demand for taxpayer money (regardless of the services provided), while demanding that "Republicans" take their hands of "women's bodies." Huh? It's nothing more than a self-righteous hold up. We Americans have more than enough money to provide medical care for those who really need it. But I'm at a loss to understand why I should pay for some 16-year old's abortion.

Questions

Submitted by Boil It Down on Sun, 04/10/2011 - 1:54am.

How wicked are you when you cry over the prevention of killing babies? Is O'Donnell a demon himself or just possessed?

If your "friend" is in such dire straits then why aren't YOU as her "friend" digging into your sizeable wallet to help her out???

Laughing

Submitted by Pharmer on Sun, 04/10/2011 - 9:53am.

The 98 dollar price for birth control pills is pretty amazing.
Perhaps a specialty compounded veterinary dose form was required.

So far we haven't found a planned parenthood with sonography equipment. I wonder how the e-mailer managed to locate one.

ODonnell is just another leftie....... like Obama, who wouldn't help his Auntie Zeituni, Larry lets his so-called friend go without cable, basic dental care, and birth control, because he expects us to pick up the tab.

So, the murdering of babies............

Submitted by Patriot II on Sun, 04/10/2011 - 10:38am.

Is so important to this evil bastard that he cries at the thought of an absense of senseless slaughter of babies? He must have a pregnant girlfriend he wants an abortion for before his wife finds out....! imho

This man is mentally

Submitted by marpel on Mon, 04/11/2011 - 10:18am.

This man is mentally unstable, as he's showed it on the air for years. At least Glenn Beck admits he's crazy....what's this one's excuse?
