Chris Wallace Scolds White House for Not Scheduling Clinton and Gates on Fox News Sunday

By Noel Sheppard | March 27, 2011 | 18:43

Noel Sheppard's picture

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Defense Secretary Robert Gates were featured guests on all the broadcast network Sunday morning shows with the exception of the one on Fox.

Host Chris Wallace was clearly unhappy about this, and let his viewers know (video follows with transcript and commentary):

CHRIS WALLACE: Of course we wanted to get the White House view on Libya. However, they chose to offer Secretary of State Clinton and Defense Secretary Gates to ABC, CBS and NBC, but not to Fox. Despite the fact that we routinely have more viewers than two of those Sunday shows, the Obama team felt no need to explain to the millions of you who watch this program and Fox News why they have sent U.S. servicemen and women into combat. We thought you’d like to know.

As Jeff Poor accurately noted at the Daily Caller, Clinton and Gates appeared on ABC's "This Week," CBS's "Face the Nation," and NBC's "Meet the Press."

However, I was a little confused by Wallace's claim "we routinely have more viewers than two of those Sunday shows." According to "TV by the Numbers," "Fox News Sunday" got slaughtered last week by its three broadcast rivals:

(Sunday, March 20, 2011) TOTAL VIEWERS A25-54 MM/Rtg

ABC “THIS WEEK”               2,660,000            940,000/0.8

NBC “MEET THE PRESS”    3,520,000            1,190,000/1.0

CBS “FACE THE NATION”    2,690,000            960,000/0.8

FOX “FOX NEWS SUNDAY” 1,410,000            580,000/0.5

Fortunately, TVNewser cleared up the discrepancy. When you add the above numbers to additional viewers "FNS" gets on the Fox News Channel, the totals typically exceed "FTN" and "MTP".

With this in mind, given the public's logical concern for what's going on in Libya, one has to wonder why the Administration didn't make every effort to get Clinton and Gates on with Wallace.

It should be interesting to see what the White House response is to Wallace's concern. Stay tuned.

Fox needs to get the Administration's side if possible

Submitted by nkviking75 on Sun, 03/27/2011 - 8:47pm.

While you're not wrong, Fox News needs to let the Administration's representatives be heard in order to live up to their "Fair and Balanced" slogan. Unfortunately, this bunch of Bolshevik-wannabes have decided to make it much tougher for Fox to have a balance. Also, if Wallace can interview Hillary, he can challenge her. That's exactly what lefties don't want.

Statistical Bias In Explanation - Number "n" Too Low

Submitted by stratman on Sun, 03/27/2011 - 7:26pm.

Instead of a single point in time, last week's viewer numbers ("n=1"), a better marker of the validity of Wallace's statement, "... we routinely have more viewers...", would be to examine viewer numbers over many weeks, for instance several rating periods.

No one's doing anyone a favor if points made are improperly validated.  An opponent can seize on the error and use it to distract from the original issue intended.

Submitted by MidAmerica on Sun, 03/27/2011 - 7:58pm.

Having the head of State Department and the head of the Defense Department on at the same time to discuss a military action seems odd. When a situation has come to armed conflict then the Defense Department has the greater responsibility. War usually comes after the failure of the State Departments efforts to avoid armed conflict. So having Hillary doing most of the talking when her department has failed in it's role as peacemaker is unusual. It's either because Gates will not explian the conflict 'appropriately' or Hillary has a taste for blood and she wants this remembered as Hillary's War.  (I wonder if she has ever slipped and called Gahdaffi 'Bill")

Of course, the leftist media is defending The White House action

Submitted by Rush Fan on Sun, 03/27/2011 - 9:08pm.

From Examiner.com:

"In his statement, Wallace eqautes [sic] a snub of his show to a snub of millions of his viewers, an equation that the White House would surely refute. The Obama adminstration [sic] and Fox News have had a testy relationship before Obama even became President. The White House believes that Fox News actively pushed a narrative to paint the President as a socialist. When Glenn Beck called President Obama a "racist" with a "deep-seeded hatred for white people" it reportedly made some members of the White House extremely upset. Over the past week Fox News has frequently hosted GOP presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich to criticize the President's decision to intervene in Libya." [...]

"At various times the Obama administration has "fought back" by withholding interviews from Fox News."

Notice the spelling errors in the above story. It appears that the Examiner's Ryan Witt forgot to use spell check.

Others here have posted the Politico story that Media Matters is increasing the war against Fox News as the reason why Clinton and Gates did not appear on Wallace's show. Red Eyes Greg Gutfeld showed this hilarious video titled Media Matters Runs 'Boot Camp' for Fox News Guests to highlight Media Matters obsession with Fox News.

Whitehouse Vows Chris Wallace Will Play Dead

Submitted by Avitar on Sun, 03/27/2011 - 9:27pm.

At first they trained Chris Wallace to sit up and beg, whimpering on his show. I do not know what the next new trick they will teach him but the program finally will teach him that if you do not gush over Obama if you do not suck up to the Progressives, you will not get access. Your ratings will decline and you will not get the big bonus check and show renewal. A previous generation of progressives used these methods to train all of early radio and television to be 100% liberal and never give a conservative and even break.

Of course they already have Bill Orielly trained to never ask about Berry's birth certificate even though he knows that newspapers routinely published birth announcements for babies that couples in fact adopted and Hawaii will issue a certificate of live birth on the mothers sworn word alone. He in turn got to interview the President,

Who the hell would want to watch the alphabet shows?

Submitted by brutony1 on Mon, 03/28/2011 - 2:27pm.

They put them on all at the same time, with the same guests, and promote the same liberal agenda! And why the hell, in 2011, is DeFace the Nation STILL in SD? Whats the matter, CBS, those in the newsroom havent heard of HD yet? I know, between that show, and 60 Quaaludes, that the average age in 81, but maybe they know of some of the latest tech news, like Jolson talks, and radio is now coast-to-coast?

When will liberals WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE! -Me

Don't forget

Don't forget the Cadillac commercials.

Why is that every Cadillac I get behind seems incapable of going over 25 mph?

I like the way you cited the statistics that the other three in that time frame fare better..only to go back and rationalize for Fox...sad. As a flaming libertarian who defended the Constitution for three decades, I hate to see ignorance on any screen.

No doubt, the wimps in the White House are afraid of Fox and real questions, but NB should never get into picking sides. I have been horrified several times when forced to watch Fox News. Their reporters in can be even more slanted, demented, and STUPID than the other MSM, and yet NB rarely pays them their just due.

Please stay the course of exposing media bias. On both sides.

"Please stay the course of exposing media bias. On both sides."

Staying the course, as you put it, of a site who's tagline and mission is...

Exposing & Combating ***Liberal*** Media Bias

...would be to expose LIBERAL media bias. That's why that all-important extra word is in there.

If it was "on both sides" and, essentially, everywhere, as you imply, WHY WOULD THIS SITE EXIST and WHY WOULD WE BE HERE bringing the world daily examples by the truckload from both it's writers and dedicated members of heavily tilted and overt.... ***LIBERAL*** media bias???

I rarely trust "Libertarians", and you are Exhibit A.

Fox is hands-down the best place to get anything resembling quasi-honest/ernest and as non-partisan as possible journalism and news.

Even if an item was biased to the conservative side so what? If you include papers, TV, and cable, the balance is say 50:1 in the liberal view, so we should bash them for presenting the other perspective?  What it needs to be 100% liberal bias?

Plus you have the factor that Right is right for a reason, and Left is most typically wrong for myopic reasons. The progressives look at the emotion and actively bury the facts and history; presenting only the part of the story they want you to hear. They make a grievance where there should be no grievance because life is not fair and you can not make it fair.  They have no regard for "traditional" morals, just their new PC morals which they claim are superior above traditional morals, nor regard for human nature and motivation. It does not matter if it has proven not to work. They want to do it again and again out of THEIR immoral principals.

As a matter of fact they motivate people by encouraging the breaking of the 10 Commandments

1. Thou shall have no other gods

Libs strongly encourage YOU to be YOUR OWN GOD.  YOU are the most important and you need everything your way.

2. Thou shall have no idols.

Materialism.  Funny they blame conservatives for this.  Look at Hollywood.  What to they worship?

3. Honor God's name.

They enjoy cursing God & his followers.  Christians are dumb you know.

4. Remember the Sabbath day.

Go to Church?  You are kidding right?

5. Honor your father and mother.

They want kids to have equal power and when you go off to college they teach you that all you learned before was lies.  You have to find your own truth!  Which the liberal schools and groups are happy to brain wash you with THEIR new truth.

6. Do not murder.

Abortion.

7. Do not commit adultery.

Highly encouraged.  Anything goes whatever floats your boat.  Unless you are caught publicly like Tiger Woods.  Then they are happy to tear you down too.

8. Do not steal.

Redistribution of wealth. And what % of criminals do you think are REP and heart vs. DEM?

9. Do not lie.

You kidding?  Obama lie?

10. Do not covet.

Redistribution of wealth.
