Nobel Committee Asked to Strip Obama's Peace Prize

As "Obama has now fired more cruise missiles than all other Nobel Peace prize winners combined" was posted all over the internet at various social networking sites Monday, the President of Bolivia along with a Russian political leader launched a campaign to get this dubious honor stripped from Barack Obama in the wake of his attack on Libya.

As Digital Journal reported:

Liberal Democratic Party of Russia leader and Vice-Chairman of the State Duma Vladimir Zhirinovsky released a statement today calling for the Nobel Prize Committee to take back the honour bestowed on US President Barack Obama in 2009.

Zhirinovsky said the attacks were "another outrageous act of aggression by NATO forces and, in particular, the United States," and that the attacks demonstrated a "colonial policy" with "one goal: to establish control over Libyan oil and the Libyan regime." He said the prize was now hypocritical as a result.

Bolivian President Evo Morales echoed the call: "How is it possible that a Nobel Peace Prize winner leads a gang to attack and invade? This is not a defence of human rights or self-determination."

It will be very interesting to see if this campaign has legs and if America's Obama-loving press will report it.

Stay tuned.

Nobel Prize for fancifull thinking?

Submitted by MidAmerica on Tue, 03/22/2011 - 10:19am.

It would be interesting (and entertaining) to hear from the Nobel committee members who awarded this prize to obama and have them defend their reasoning.

That'll learn 'em...

Submitted by motherbelt on Tue, 03/22/2011 - 10:29am.

That'll learn 'em to hand out an award for what they "hope" someone will do.

Hey guys, how's that "hope and change" thing working out?

obama the imperialist aggressor

Submitted by MidAmerica on Tue, 03/22/2011 - 10:45am.

it's especially entertaining to have the Russian official accuse obama of having a colonial policy with a goal of controling Libya's government and oil. OUCH!! that's gotta hurt

No

They should not. Rescinding it would lend legitimacy to an award which has no legitimacy. That ship has sailed.

I didn't think of it that way, but it's dead on target!

As with the Carter and Arafat awards, the committee will forever be associated with having used the Nobel Prize as a dog bone.

Can we also get them to ask

Submitted by Scuba Dude on Tue, 03/22/2011 - 11:12am.

Can we also get them to ask Al "ManBearPig" Gore for his Nobel Prize? And the Academy for Michael "Where's the Buffet" Moore's Academy Award? Both of those were awarded for fiction and falsehoods.

Scuba dude.. top 3 .. perhaps the "Top Ten List," in in order.

Submitted by Gary Hall on Tue, 03/22/2011 - 12:05pm.

Indeed. I was thinking, how bout Al Gore and Paul Krugman next (first - whichever); but as we are seeing in the comments here - creating a "Top Ten List" could get quite competitive. Then, would it not be interesting to put the top ten list to the test of a national poll? .."Do you agree that these ten recipients of Nobel prizes should have their award stripped?" (;~/ gary

If we want to do a Top Ten

Submitted by Scuba Dude on Tue, 03/22/2011 - 12:30pm.

If we want to do a Top Ten List here is a link to the winners, I know it is Wikipedia but I figured no one is that desperate to change this.  :-)

edit:  I figure we should only concentrate on Peace, Economics and Literature.

Submitted by Jack Bauer on Tue, 03/22/2011 - 1:06pm.

DFTT yeah, it's great isn't it? That was always the refrain of the left wasn't it? Anyone who hadn't served or hadn't personally signed up their offspring for the military was a CHICKENHAWK if they supported the Iraq war.

All of the above Mr Obama? --- How about ALL OF THE BELOW, instead.

Obama surely did not deserve

Submitted by stratman on Tue, 03/22/2011 - 5:28pm.

Obama surely did not deserve the Nobel Peace Prize, but I could care less what a crazy Communist and a punk Socialist think of Obama.
