Maher: 'Every Black Person Scares Republicans Unless They Look Like Urkel, Talk Like Colin Powell and Wear Bill Cosby Sweaters'

By Noel Sheppard | March 19, 2011 | 11:56

Bill Maher went on a hate-filled rant about Republicans Friday night because the GOP in his view are too interested in "useless distractions" like public unions, ACORN, NPR and Planned Parenthood.

After telling his "Real Time" audience, "Governing this country with Republicans is like rooming with a meth addict," he dubbed the entire Party as racist saying, "Every black person scares you unless they look like Urkel, talk like Colin Powell and wear Bill Cosby sweaters" (video follows with transcript and commentary):

BILL MAHER: New Rule: Fantasies are for sex, not public policy. When you go down the list of useless distractions that make up the Republican Party agenda – public unions and Sharia law, anchor babies and a mosque at Ground Zero, ACORN and National Public Radio, the war on Christmas, the New Black Panthers, Planned Parenthood, Michelle Obama’s war on dessert. Oh for Christ’s sake, she’s just trying to get you to eat a carrot not stick it up your ass! – you realize that one reason nothing gets done in America is that one of the political parties puts so much more into fantasy problems than real ones. Governing this country with Republicans is like rooming with a meth addict. You want to address real life problems like when the rent is do, and they’re saying, “How can you even think of that stuff when there’s police scanner voices coming out of the air conditioning unit?”

What's really hysterical is that Maher later depicted a "real problem" facing the nation is climate change, but it's certainly not surprising this idiot has problems separating fantasy from reality:

MAHER: Do you know what Republicans in Congress were working on this week? Two gym teachers named Sen. James Inhofe (R-Ok.) and Rep. Steve King (R-Ia.) introduced a bill that would require that all government functions be conducted in English, because you let someone down at the DMV say “Si” instead of “Yes,” the next thing you know George Lopez is hosting the “Tonight Show.” In Oklahoma, the voters there banned Sharia law, which is the strict religious law in the Koran, and who could blame them what with their Muslim population rapidly approaching zero.

The falsehoods on display here were almost breathtaking.

A Rasmussen poll taken last May found 87 percent of Americans favor English being declared our official language. One in August found 58 percent of respondents support English-only ballots. As such, Inhofe and King are with the majority of Americans, and Maher is once again with the minority.

As for Oklahoma's Muslim population "rapidly approaching zero," almost one percent of that state is a member of that religion. The Islamic Society of Oklahoma City gives a breakdown of Muslims in that region, as well as directions to the city's mosques, while proudly declaring, "Islam is the fastest growing religion in the United States. Every four years there are more than double the amount of Muslims living in the U.S."

As such, and not at all surprisingly, Maher was totally clueless of the facts on these two issues.

Potentially more comical, the so-called comedian just last Friday called the Koran "a hate-filled book" while charging "the threat potentially from radicalized Muslims is a unique and greater threat" than from "right-wing militias and Timothy McVeigh types." Now, just seven days later, he's defending this religion while castigating those trying to protect themselves from its radical elements.

Alas, that's standard operational procedure for Maher. Facts and positions are tools to be twisted and manipulated in order to support those he agrees with, attack those he doesn't, and advance an agenda shared by a minority of Americans. But he wasn't done:

MAHER: And how can you explain the fixation with ACORN and voter fraud? Republicans are obsessed with people cooking up wild, non-existent schemes to vote ignoring one important truth: this is America – no one wants to vote. What’s next – jury duty fraud? Washing the dishes fraud? I mean, the things that these people get exorcised about.

I guess Maher was out of the country for all the Democrat claims of voter fraud in the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections. To suggest such accusations only come from the Right is akin to claiming only conservatives use violent rhetoric.

Oh, that's right. Maher's guilty of that as well.

Conveniently, this led another portion of the program when Maher, apparently by contract, had to take a swipe at the former governor of Alaska:

MAHER: Sarah Palin is one of those leading the charge to get rid of Planned Parenthood because there’s two things Sarah Palin is not interested in: it’s planning and parenthood.

[Laughter and applause]

And then there’s the New Black Panthers. Look, Republicans, I know this picture from Election Day 2008 scared you. If these guys weren’t trying to intimidate voters, why did they show up to that polling place deliberately black? And now it’s two years later, and that picture still scares you. Look, that guy who drove up from Orange County just ran out.

Actually, it wasn't the color of their skin that frightened people away from that polling station. It was the nightsticks in their hands!

But Maher and his racist ilk don't think weapons at a polling place are at all concerning as long as those wielding them are voting for Democrats.

MAHER: But, it’s time you understood something: every black person scares you unless they look like Urkel, talk like Colin Powell and wear Bill Cosby sweaters, you fill your adult diaper. But here’s the thing, there are real problems: climate change, loose nukes, debt, infrastructure, the wealth gap, our addiction to oil from weird distant places run by monsters that want us dead – like Alaska. But NPR is not a problem. National Public Radio isn’t corrupting anyone and I’ll tell you why: because the simple-minded sheep who take orders from the radio are all taken.

The simple-minded sheep are all taken?

If only that were true, for if it were, his show would have been canceled years ago for having zero ratings.

What the left doesn't see is

Submitted by amyshulk on Sat, 03/19/2011 - 12:06pm.

What the left doesn't see is that they are constantly trying to get us to accept what they consider the norm. "So what he has tattoos/piercings all over his face/dresses like a hood - he MUST be allowed to work in the front of the "house" as a host. If you don't, you are a raaaaaaaaaaaaaacist..bigot"

Being afraid of people who self-identify with people who are KNOWN thugs is NORMAL, not raaaaaaaaaaacist/bigoted, Maher, you are an IDIOT!!!

What the left needs to understand - we agree people should be judged one on one - but when you involve the gov't to elevate some over others, you take away our choice and force your choice on us.

The government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.

Forgot to add - the left

Submitted by amyshulk on Sat, 03/19/2011 - 12:59pm.

Forgot to add - the left {msm} is actually pretty useful if you know how to interpret them.

Scorn = minor threat to leftist ideals. May or may not be covered in the msm.

Scorn + Ad Hom = major threat. Will be covered in the msm, done with the old-fashioned "shun & shame" strategy.

Scorn + ad hom + moral equivalency = Will be hysterically covered in the msm, using the old-fashioned "shun & shame" strategy PLUS that same strategy will be used against the viewers, as in "If you don't get it/agree with us, you MUST be a {fill in the blank with the latest shameful perjorative - see: raaaaaaacist} this is the one they employ for the BIG threats, whereby they intend to "drive the narrative" by saying "Well, BUSH did it too" and the like.

LIke that angle Noel.. how bout that majority view?

Submitted by Gary Hall on Sat, 03/19/2011 - 1:44pm.

  • As such, Inhofe and King are with the majority of Americans, and Maher is once again with the minority.

If only the Republicans could learn to quote the polls on the issues which face us - each and every time they are being interviewed by the MSM - the country would come to understand that the MSM and the D's have been lying to them.

Polling showed us that:

  • Obama's stimulus bill did have majority support.
  • ObamaCare did not have majority support.
  • Local folks did not approve of Obama's actions, neither in containment, nor the cleanup effort in the BP spill.
  • A majority do support Arizona's illegal immigration bill - w/ 69% and 73%, nationally, supporting the two most  contentious requirements of the bill (Pew poll).
  • A strong majority support a voter ID law.
  • A strong majority supported President Bush's view of SS reform.
  • A strong majority want smaller government with lower taxes.

Why are we even debating these issues?

The MSM - that's why.

He's just an entertainer

Submitted by Dave81 on Sat, 03/19/2011 - 1:59pm.

Bill Maher is an idiot, but he's just an entertainer, like John Stewert. He's more interested in getting laughs (and admittedly, some of his jokes are funny even if they're blatently biased and wrong) than reporting facts. So I could really care less what spews out of his mouth, because the only people who watch him are those looking to be intertained by Republican-bashing in the first place. As the polls show, when people want REAL news, they turn on Fox. =)

Right - one who {along with

Submitted by amyshulk on Sat, 03/19/2011 - 3:14pm.

Right - one who {along with The Daily Show's Stewart, etal} are where the 20/30 year old set gets their news from. I know, I used to be one of them. Regular news was too boring/required critical thinking - much more fun to get it from the masters of snark.

Then I noticed the hatefulness, and the EXTREME bias. For every lefty that gets the screws {only when they are too far gone to rehab - for now anyway} there were MANY MORE on the right who got the screws, even if what they did was a minor gaffe they'd ignore if it came from the left.

This is all part and parcel of why we're now a country full of surface voters/thinkers. It starts with PBS {Sesame Street}, goes on daily in our Public/Higher ed schools, and is all over the msm. The left defines the "middle" and derides those who deviate - but mostly only if they deviate to the right. What was a societal norm 10, 20, 30 years ago is now lambasted as "extreme" as they "nudge" us ever further to the left.

If it all made sense, I'd be fine with it. Women being able to vote, hold property and treated as equal = good. Women TOTALLY equal with men is impossible, because of inherent strengths and weaknesses. Logic dictates we should want a meritocracy, but that's not what the left wants.

The government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.

Being afraid is natures way

Submitted by amyshulk on Sat, 03/19/2011 - 3:18pm.

Being afraid is natures way of telling us to CYA - when you try to talk yourself out of that gut feeling to run, you set yourself up to be a victim. This doesn't apply to skin color, which is what the left doesn't get! If I experience threats from ANY person, I am wary around that person. If I observe a negative behavior in ANY group, I stay away from that group. This is what the left wants us to deny - our own experiences/gut reactions based on those experiences.

Bill Maher has gotten so outrageous (as well as his audience)

Submitted by Rush Fan on Sat, 03/19/2011 - 2:08pm.

that he is becoming another Wally George. For those not familiar with the name, Wally George had a Los Angeles-area local television show in the 80s (it was also syndicated) called Hot Seat. As Wikipedia notes:

George was famous for his combative, almost farcical interview style and shocking antics. For example, he often brought strippers onto his show to denounce them for being "bimbos"; when the strippers would (almost inevitably) begin to strip, George, with obviously feigned outrage, would wait until the very last moment to have them escorted out by security while his fans chanted: "Sick! Sick! Sick!"

[...]

George engaged guests whom he called "ludicrous liberal lunatics" and "fascist fanatics," including 1960s drug guru Dr. Timothy Leary and Tom Metzger, a white supremacist leader who was a particular target of George's ire. In many ways, Hot Seat inspired and was the precursor of other similar shows hosted by Morton Downey, Jr. and Jerry Springer. Downey actually appeared on Hot Seat on one occasion; he and George traded barbs numerous times over items ranging from who was a true conservative to the nature of the audience before Downey was tackled by police.

As outrageous as he was, Wally George had a lot more going for him than Bill Maher. At least George was a conservative, who deeply admired Ronald Reagan.  Another trivia about Wally George. He was the father of actress Rebecca De Mornay.

Exactly the opposite of the glaring truth - that the entire welfare / entitlement establishment is a direct result of LIBERAL fear of blacks for the last 50 years! It's been that way since the race riots in the 60's. Same thing goes for Muslims - Democrats are terrified of them to the point that they defend terrorism, cheer their victories, and embrace their religion. Oh Maher,

Submitted by Ashrak on Sat, 03/19/2011 - 2:53pm.

The projection is getting quite old. It is you progressives who act like black people are incapable of making their own way. It is your ilk who convinces them that they cannot stand on their own individual merits and instead need special treatment for everything from groceries to lowering test scores for jobs.

It is Maher's crew who is scared of Liberty itself. It is they who are scared of unity and prosperity. It is they who augment government control and use the race card and the class warfare card to drive wedges between people of different colors.

It is Maher's mindset that everyone is responsible for everything but nobody is actually personally responsible for anything. It is Maher himself who has gone from saying Muslims who hijacked planes and flew them into buildings 9-11 were heros and we are the cowards to now terrorists following a hate filled book.

We put boots on the ground, which is the opposite of bombing from 30 thousand feet, and Maher is the first to attack doing so. Is he now calling Obama a coward regarding Libya? Where is Code Pink?

Fools, the lot of them.

I used to think it was a joke when folks said liberalism and progressive thinking was a disease. Anymore, I realize that is exactly what it is and it is turning out to be a fatal one.

That an individual right exists requires that some policy positions be removed from the table of debate.

All that Maher and his side can do is hurl the racist term around as often as they can and see if any of their dwindling herd of sheeple believe it

Not one thing Maher stated

Submitted by Miss_Me_Yet on Sat, 03/19/2011 - 5:16pm.

Not one thing Maher stated was based in fact. This time he was so far off base even his audience wasn't on board throughout most of is Reverend Wright impersonation.

Most of the ooh's & aah's, atta boys and hallelujah brother came from the other depraved preachers on the dais.

Ironic Maher should bring up Cosby in his diatribe while the white Bill Cosby, Belzer was his guest snake oil salesman, trademark welding goggle black shades indoors and all.

I work in an environment

Submitted by ricklail on Sat, 03/19/2011 - 6:46pm.

I work in an environment where the worst of our society resides. They are black, white, Latino, and Orientals. They are murderers, rapist, drug dealers, child molesters, kidnappers, armed robbers, arsonists; you name the crime and somebody there has done it. I am not afraid of them but I watch my back and my fellow coworkers backs. I do the same on the street when I see people just like them that should be residents of  our facility. I think it is some heightened  sense that allows me to recognize them.

Submitted by Smartypants on Sat, 03/19/2011 - 8:43pm.

Maher is using what a psychologist would call projection. I guarantee this guy is a closet racist of the most extreme. Just like the "N word" was a regular part of the Clinton White House, Maher probably dwells on racial blather. Hey Maher, true conservatives (which you call Republicans) do not get into identity politics the way that liberals do. True conservatives do not see people as members of groups; they see them as individuals. Are there racist Republicans? Of course, just like there are racist Democrats and racist Independents, too. The idea that you call out all Republicans as if they are completely like minded demonstrates your own mental deficiency; it doesn't reflect negatively on Republicans at all.

Does it have anything to do with the gossip-mongering by anti-Clinton smear merchants regarding Hillary Clinton? Or is there some legitimate evidence?

Other than the reference to Byrd--who was not part of the Clinton White House--and his "white ni**ers" remark, the rest of your evidence is the same slimy Clinton-smearing gossip--mostly peddled by the discredited Arkansas state trooper and notable buffoon Larry Patterson--which I have been reading for years.

What amuses me most is their usual trump card to discredit me, a "former felon" and "con."

First time in the history of NewsBusters, THE FIRST TIME, EVER, THE ENTIRE HISTORY OF NEWSBUSTERS, someone has gone to a convict to back up his statement. Not only that, but a convict that thinks we are misusing the terms former felon and con.

Note, you DIDN'T ask for "legitimate" evidence. You just asked for evidence, and you got what you asked for. It's a rather trivial difference (one man's truth is another man's fraud), but you can't suddenly change your request because you didn't like what was provided to you.

The RACE CARD is most offensive when coming from white liberals

Submitted by cbeyer on Sun, 03/20/2011 - 6:52pm.

Dishonest use of the RACE CARD abounds in our society. While I find it highly offensive that black people (the vast majority) use it frequently, it is much more pathetic when white liberals it. Liberalism is difficult to defend as are the failed polices of Obama and his administration. The best way to diffuse legitimate intellectual challenges to the policies of this black president is, of course, to dismiss them by indicating that anyone who doesn’t go into a prostrate trance at the mere mention of the anointed one is a full blown racist. I for one have the same visceral dislike of this President and his political philosophies that I did with John Kerry. The damage dishonest use of RACE CARD has caused to race relations in this country is is huge. When white people who are NOT racist are continually told they are bigots just because they disagree with or have genuine differences with a black person it simply creates racial tension that is NOT based on innate racism. As a business executive, I have seen the race card used in the corporate world. It's everywhere. If a manager has a genuine performance issue with a black employee, the card is often used and in many cases it is total dishonesty. As long as blacks and white liberals disingenuously continue to use the RACE CARD with great frequency to dismiss legitimate differences based on philosophical beliefs, the gulf will widen.

I am 47. Close to the age of our President. It was hammered into me from the early days of school not to be racist, not to be a bigot. Hammered. At school. On TV. In song. Everywhere. Don't be a racist. Don't be a bigot.

Racism is dead. The false charges of racism. Very much alive.

Let's Get Real

Submitted by Harley2002 on Mon, 03/21/2011 - 6:28pm.

Of course I am scared of some Blacks. Obama scares the hell out of me. Inner city blacks in Detroit scare me if I am walking around there a 2am. The fantasy of the Marxists that all blacks are Bill Cosby on the Cosby show is stupid. Look at crime statistics and look at prisons who are the most imprisoned as a percentage of their race? Don't believe me here look at this. http://www.project.org/info.php?recordID=174 Maher can prove me wrong when he takes his Lilly white butt to Detroit carries a wad of 100's and walks down the worst part of the inner city at 3am BY HIMSELF. I bet even he is not that stupid. I actually don't call it scared I call it street smarts. I grew up in Detroit. The only time in my life that I had my life threatened was there and it was because I was white from a Black. It happened more then once. I also have had a family member murdered because he was white. My cousin he was 19. So Maher can live in his fantasy Hollyweird world where the only blacks he meets are rich and famous.
