'Family Guy' Writer: "Wanna Feel Better About Japan Quake - Google 'Pearl Harbor Death Toll'”

Noel Sheppard's picture

As people all over the world were grieving for the victims of Friday's earthquake and resulting tsunamis in Japan, the scriptwriter for the hit series "Family Guy" sent his 162,000 Twitter followers a truly disgraceful comment.

As reported by Bleeding Cool Saturday:

Nonetheless, when a particularly tasteless tweet started rolling around the web last night, and I found out it had been written by Family Guy scriptwriter Alec Sulkin, I wasn’t too surprised. Here’s what he said:

If you wanna feel better about this earthquake in Japan, google “Pearl Harbor death toll”.

Apparently Sulkin, aka @thesulk, took a lot of heat for this comment as he has since taken it down and offered his followers an apology: "Yesterday death toll = 200. Today = 10 thousand. I am sorry for my insensitive tweet. It's gone."

But that was followed by: "If you wanna feel better about the floods in New Jersey, google 'MTV's Jersey Shore'."

Maybe that one's funnier and less callous, but it does seem to diminish the sincerity of his apology, wouldn't you agree?

For the record, Sulkin's Wikipedia page confirms his "insensitive tweet."

It also reports that he once dated vulgarian comedienne Sarah Silverman.

Explains a lot, as Silverman herself has a history of offensive tweets.

As NewsBusters reported last year, "Standup comic and New York Times-bestselling author Sarah Silverman joked on Twitter that widows of the Sept. 11 attacks 'give the best handjobs' on Oct. 6, attributing the quote to pseudonymous 19th century author and satirist Mark Twain."

Too bad Silverman and Sulkin broke up.

They seem made for each other.

I stopped watching Family Guy ages ago. Why bother with it?

Submitted by ebayer on Sun, 03/13/2011 - 6:31pm.

You really are quite emotional aren't you? And not very rational. Did you not read the Headline? "'Family Guy' Writer: "Wanna Feel Better About Japan Quake - Google 'Pearl Harbor Death Toll'” Got it? His point is that he doesn't feel bad about the dead and dying and suffering of the Japanese people, because they attacked Pearl Harbor. So why bring up American soldiers killed by Germans,Italians and other assorted enemies in other parts of the world? What you said is a non-sequitur. There were 416,000 total US casualties in WWII. That included all the services and civilians Just in Hiroshima alone some estimates state up to 200,000 had died by 1950, due to cancer and other long-term effects.Add to that the 100,000 who died in Nagasaki and you have nearly as many Japanese who died in those two bombings as the entire US loss from Europe, the Atlantic,Africa and the Pacific campaigns. So really, you need to get a grip on reality. Dumbass

Sulkin writes for Family Guy...This is the same pos show that went after Sarah Palin and disgracefully targeted and mocked her baby son, Trig, who has Down Syndrome. It seems that anyone associated with this show is a real slime, and Sulkin's tweet appears to be further proof of that. The fact that he "apologized" matters not...That he thought to tweet this in the first place is what does matter and it says volumes about the kind of person that he is.

The perils of tweeting...

Submitted by Jer on Sat, 03/12/2011 - 8:13pm.

I think celebrity tweeters feel the constant need to say something cool and provocative, and comics and comedy writers are expected--or believe they are expected--to be "funny". So in straining mightily not to disappoint they produce the occasional sick and insensiive and completely unfunny line like this one tweeted by Sulkin. Somewhere in the editing and production process of The Family Guy, this "joke" would have been flushed and never seen the light of day--a benefit unfortunately not afforded the impulsive tweeter.

Here Come The Conservative PC Thugs Again...Part 2

Submitted by TheReal7Sticks on Sat, 03/12/2011 - 10:05pm.

You know, if Sam Kinnison said something like that, it would be liberals screaming for his head rather than conservatives. This PC thuggery has infected your side almost as badly as the liberal side, and yet you set a double standard on who can be offensive.

For the record, I have read both liberal and conservative comments that are offensive to Japanese people. I read some idiot left-wing state senator from New Hampshire that claimed that anime was a reason why two nukes weren't enough. And I read a certain conservative over here claiming that the Japanese must be evil degenerates because one Japanese company made a rape video game. SO don't try to take the high ground that you have never offended the Japanese as well.

Sam Kinison on bombing Libya...

Ever since we bombed Libya ya know, I'm just in that f*cking tear everything up mood. Blast 'em. That was just too cool man, American bombers going in going "Where's the baby's room?" *** BOOM *** "Where do you keep the little girl"? (Explosion sound).

We did out job, we only f***ed up one place, we "accidentally" dropped a bomb on the French embassy. (Crowd "AWWWWWWW"). Sorry about that, I'm sure our aim would have been a little better if we had more f***ing sleep. Thanks for those extra 6500 air miles you f***heads, build a new house!

We're not f***ing around anymore, it's time to be the tough guy. This is America G**d@** it, Reagan's President and Clint Eastwood has his own police force.
